If this has been answered I apologize. I probably didn't look hard enough.
I'm on my m8 with s-on rooted running ViperRom. I'm one of the few that aren't compatible with firewater.
No matter what rom, my speaker phone doesn't work very well. I can hear the other side fine, however, when I speak... The other end can't hear me.
I tried a tweak from xposed that had an option to reduce distortion or whatever but by enabling that, it broke HTC music and would only play music through the earpiece and not the speakers.
Any fix for this?

Hello All,
I searched first by the way :-/
Recently my Nexus has had its earpiece too loud for both Incoming and Outgoing Calls.
At first I thought it had something to do with the radio, so I downgraded. It actually worked on the first call but after that it was loud as heck even on the lowest volume.
I tried to retrace my steps with my applications next, but nothing that would point to the earpiece. The last apps installed updated where mostly games like Fruit Ninja and Aliens vs. Humans, so I think we can rule out that.
The specs in my sig should be up to date.
The only variable that has changed other than the ones listed above is the fact that I recently bought a Jawbone Icon Bluetooth Headset. But to my memory, this issue began before that.
Can't find a solution anywhere cause it seems most people have an issue with the phone being too soft lol.
I'm really looking for some help guys. I'm just short of wiping the phone clean and reinstalling CM6 and my apps. If that dosen't work I'll have to use the warranty I guess. Had the phone from about Sept 10 I believe.
Let me know if I missed anything guys. All ideas are welcomed to fix this issue.
It's probably because of CM. CM uses a audio boost kernel by default, so I'm guessing that's the problem. Try installing no audio boost kernel to see if it solves the issue.
yeah if you are using cyanogen ROM, they added an audio boost hack long ago. on cyan 5.0.8 the audio boost was so loud that over 50% volume started to distort the speaker and kill your ears. so in later releases they split the difference and lowered it somewhat.
but the boost has always been there. the only likely possibility is that you recently started enabling DSP settings like compression or the EQ, which would suddenly now make things way louder.
Wow thanks guys. Had no clue that CM had an audio boosted kernel. Guess I'll be flashing something else for the while. Something as close to vanilla I guess.
Oh, I also checked the DSP settings, everything was off but was worth a shot.
Thanks again for the replies!
Just to let anyone with the same issue know, I found away around it. I installed one of Wildmonks kernels without the audio fix.
Kernel 2.6.35.10 to be exact. I get to keep my cyan features and have a decent volume ear piece too. Yay!
Good work. It's funny cause most people complain this phone is too quiet. If only they see this post!
My HTC One has extremely low in call volume from the mic. I can hear the person I am calling or who called me fine but they can't hear me or barely able to hear me. I downloaded a sound recorder app and when I talk into the mic in that app it plays back at a reasonable volume. Would a different radio file fix this problem?
I had this issue with my One X for awhile, come to find out, there was lint stuffed up in the mic hole.. Check that first.

I am having the same problem. when I am in call, if i switch to speaker phone it instantly becomes loud clear. I am going to RUU back to stock GPE or stock Sense to see if it fixes the problem.
Ill report back to you if it does.

did it work?
I have the same problem with my replacement phone. I'm sending it back to TMO for another. From what I've read it seems like a hardware issue related to the noise cancelling microphone.

My nexus 5 arrives tomorrow. Once I have that in hand, I am going to fully wipe my HTC One, RUU back to stock and S ON the phone to be sent back to HTC for a replacement. I will test the microphone before sending it back to see if the full RUU fixes it but I doubt it will.
I flashed several diff firmwares, h boots, kernels, roms etc on the phone and none of them had an effect of the mic. The microphone problem appeared out of no where when I was running a rom and kernel combination that previously had no issues. In other words, I changed nothing and the problem arose. No combination of software changes yielded any improvement in my limited testing. I am quite sure this is not a solvable problem as it is hardware related and that you should likely send your phone in for a replacement.
Hi,
I've got beautiful Sennheiser Momentum's here and I've got a problem. They make scratchy noises in higher pitches, say slow or silent songs with high voices. This happens with Beats off at the last two volume settings and with Beats On even before that. The same mp3 does not sound scratchy when I play it over my PC with the same headphones plugged in. It's defnitely the phone because the In ears that came with the phone sound equally scratchy at exact the same volumes.
Is there any way to equalize the standard audio settings without having to use another audio player? I am running ARHD 31.6 and tried it with and without PureXAudio, doesn't change anything.
I reset my phone now to make sure the XAudio-stuff isnt flying around, but the problem remains. But I think I found the culprit, the particular song where you can hear it really good simply seems to be too low on volume in the file itself - i can barely endure other songs at that volume, very loud, so I think the song has a low db and the htc just isn't that good when it comes to making songs loud and so it starts to scratch. Is there any way or EQ that can fix that or a normalizer?
I have noticed that my phones speaker was louder and better clarity on first use but after that it went downhill from there. My phone is currently in for repair due to a total speaker failure after the phone got really hot while using a CM 10.2 ROM, do not know if that was the reason but that was the ROM I was using at the time.
Well my best guess is that the built in EQ isn't the best out there and causes screeching in some frequencies. I can't notice anything in most of the songs but there are some which are problematic constantly and they are 320kbps and sound fine on my pc.
I have a rooted Verizon HTC One that I recently just got. Love the phone but one morning I discover that my volume level on literally everything is extremely low. The headphone jack will produce only a whisper of noise and when i turn the volume all the way up I can hear the music distort as if it was extremely loud but its barely even able to hear. The front speakers of the phone refuse to work with system sounds and media sounds and all the sliders are up. I've tried this on multiple ROMS, Liquid, Cyanogen, and on multiple updates, JB, KK, etc. and nothing seems to fix the issue. The speaker works I know for a fact because I can make and recieve phone calls but its a great deal quieter than before. But as for the ringer and notification sounds, or any kind of media nothing comes out of the front speakers. I'm at a complete loss. All volume+ apps don't do a damn thing in helping and I've ravaged Google looking for a solution and can't find any. It may help to know that the bottom speaker would cut out every once in a while the last week before this happened. It also stopped working on a KK ROM. if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate. I'm just about to give up.

Try to reset to 100% stock. If it doesnt work then its probably an hardware issue.
I just got my R1 HD out of the box and have immediately noticed that the touchscreen often requires me to try tapping a couple times before it registers. Has anyone else seen this happen? Very annoying.
Yep I noticed that myself. I'm coming from an LG G2 that had touch issues, and its great a new phone is almost as bad.
I'm wondering if its just a quality control issue? Some report it slow or unresponsive. Personally I have not experienced this. If your experiencing this right out of the box, I would definitely be contacting Amazon for an immediate replacement. I would end up throwing my phone over touch issues, and we all know that's not a warranty claim
Return it immediately. Mine has zero touch issues.
I've been having this problem and made a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/help/touch-screen-periodically-starts-t3439547
Ordered a unit and started having the touch problems described in the OP a few hours after I got it.
Had it replaced by amazon and the replacement is doing the same thing too. Not only does it randomly exhibit the described behavior but sometimes while scrolling it loses track of my finger and starts pressing everything in the path of my scrolling.
Really aggravating. If there isn't some kind of software fix we can possibly do I'm going to have to return it, don't have time to deal with it anymore.
It's a shame because I really love everything else about the phone.
L-Speed after root
After you root it download L-Speed from google playvand go to main tweaks. Hope this helps.
What version of the phone are you using? 16gb/2gb or the 8gb/1gb? I have the 16gb/2gb and works fine. I wish the speaker phone was 50% louder.

I did as well, but Viper helped alot. At least the speaker and headphones, ear piece is still way to low for me.
I have issue with touchscreen issues as well, but only along the edges, it has issue getting right to the edge.

No issues with wired ear buds, actually too loud. What is Viper?
Thx

Viper is a kernel module / app that gives you more control over audio settings, at least for speaker, headset, and bluetooth. It needs root ( and the magisk systemless stuff works great with it for me) but then you can edit stuff like gain, equalizer, and many more things. I honestly don't know what 90% of it does, I just use the gain boost.
You can find it in the play store (though I had no luck with this one for some reason), or if you use magisk a flashable zip is in the 2nd or 3rd post in the magisk thread.

How did you install Viper? I tried and it reset the phone lol Had to go through the entire process of rooting again.
Any other audio mods that work?

Using magisk, it justworks.tm. Just installed the zip, then the app. Never had an issue.
As for other mods, I know Speaker Boost works ok (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.omegacentauri.SpeakerBoost). Though. That just boost audio volumes.
