Hi all!
I am creating this thread so that we can investigate the possibility of the iPhone & Gear 1(Tizen OS) cooperation.
My observations regarding what works, so far:
1) Basic BT handsfree functionality (which means you can actually talk over the Gear)
2) Caller ID
Let me clarify that the iPhone was a 5S not jailbroken and i did not have the time to perform extensive testing.
I will soon have my iPhone 5 back from the service point and get back.
The interesting result is that Tizen OS offers Caller ID info on the iPhone, whereas the Android OS did not.
Please feel free to contribute to this thread with your own test, results, conclusions.

What he means is that syncing your Gear to your iPhone via bluetooth, when you receive an incoming call
only see is the phone number. Not the name attached to it in your contacts on the iphone. Hope this clears
it up for you.

I mean. That when the Gear run Android and was connected to the iPhone, Caller ID was not working, it has to do with the BT profiles the Gear is supporting with the Tizen OD vs what it supported with Android OS,
@Accounti my man maybe you should try to see if you can make the iPhine and the Tizen Gear talk to each other via BT. Some things are definitely changed.
Done some extensive testing with a jailbroken iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1.1) with btnotificationenabler cydia tweak installed.
Nothing new noted.
It seems that the iPhone thinks that the Gear is a handsfree device (so only handsfree BT profile is engaged).
I would appreciate any help, ideas, suggestions.
Thank you!

Just purchased gear as a fitness wearable and music player
Working with my iPhone 5s non jailbreak perfectly apart from noticifcations
Hands free works perfect, activating siri on the phone then makes the sound and therefore the interaction come through the Gear
Pretty cool, so I'm planning on jailbreaking to see if there's a siri tweak/HotWord to enable me to activate without actually touching the iPhone
The BTnotifier cydia tweak you've tried, is there any form of notification coming through?
I know on my Pebble watch, is does state that you need to have Banners enabled on the iPhone for the notifications to show on the watch
I'm keen to get this to work too and there MUST be a way lol

Dude, i have done some extensive testing.
BTnotification enabler does not seem to offer anything.
The iPhone sees the Gear as a handsfree device.
In my case there is also caller id, but here is why:
Before connecting the Gear with the iPhone i had paired it to an HTC One and my addressbook was synched over to the watch.
Thing is, the Gear cannot grab the notofications even though the btnotificationenabler tweak exposes them over BT.
Only solution is to downgrade the Gear to Android and use the cloudnotifier tweak @Accounti has created but in that case:
1) There is no direct BT connection.
2) The Caller ID is not working.
3) Battery life and overall responsiveness of the watch are not quite as good as when on Tizen.
Long story short: Wait for the iWatch.

How did you get the Gear to bypass the screen asking to connect to Galaxy Gear Manager? I am very close to going back to Null_23 at this rate.

Not fussed about an iWatch
I wanted a fitness wearable that could hold it's own music. The fact that it connects to my iPhone with the calls.siri, reads out sat nag directions through the watch speaker.....all a bonus
Added to which it cost me just £35!
Result-happy !!

Anyone know of an app that lets the gear work as a remote button to take a picture with your note camera? I believe the sony smartwatch has this feature...i think this would be a nice feature, as you can be in each picture you take and decide when the shutter goes off with a simple tap on the gear screen...
I had that on my Note-2 with Sony Watch.
I don't know of anything for Note-3 and Gear. However, the Note-3 by itself does allow for voice triggering of the camera.

I know you can trigger it by voice, but how cool would it be to see your note camera lens on the gear to see what picture you're taking...and once you're in the picture just tap on the screen to take the picture...
Agreed.
You have identified what could be a great app for the Gear.
I hope developers start releasing Apps for the Gear. It is disappointing that no new apps have shown on the Gear / Samsung Apps store.

Hey everyone:
I have been installing and uninstalling lots of apps and widgets to determine what works on the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch. I've got my Gear Null Rom'med and connected to a Galaxy Note 1 Phone. Since I am not giving up my Note 1, the Galaxy Gear looked to be my only choice thanks to the work of the NULL ROM developer. Mostly everything on the Gear works-- except notifications, weather, and third-party contact apps. I'm looking forward to the SMS developments going on in another thread. My partner also has the same phone and Gear, so I've got two mouths to feed!
Otherwise, these are the best apps for the Gear 1 that I have found so far. I am learning some new stuff too, so there may be a part two in the near future.
Please comment, looking forward to your feedback, and I salute all of the developers who are continuing to hack the Gear device. Thanks guys!

Great to see another Torontonian using the same watch/phone combo that I am! What a fantastic and informative video as well...I can't wait to get home and try out that remote media controller as I have my note automatically connect to a decent set of Bluetooth speakers when I walk in the door. It'll be really cool to control the music from anywhere in the house..
I noticed that you are using a stock touchwizz ROM on your note. What version of gear manager are you using and with what degree of effectiveness? I am using an AOKP kitkat ROM on my note that I absolutely love and don't think I could tear myself from but I may just nandroid and try stock if you tell me that there is greater functionality..
Great video! Nicely edited and covers a lot of mysterious capabilities n features that aren't immediately obvious to beginners-including myself. Nicely done!
PS: Love Google Goggles and Price Rythem for instant product information, nutritional facts, reviews, current pricing! Either scan the bar code or take a picture of the item, and your done!
Runner up would be Pie Controls to quicky access your favorite apps. from your watch face.

Hey fellow Torontonian! Does the KitKat ROM on your Note 1 allow you to keep the S Pen features?
I can only get to Gear Manager 1.2 and basically none of the notifications work-- the Gear Manager is only able to open the Contact app on the phone. The Gear's camera app does transfer photos to the phone automatically. Nothing else works in Gear Manager. I can't give up S Note on the phone, so it hasn't been rooted since Samsung released a JB update a year ago. I wish that SMS and email notifications could work but--- but there's not really any other smartwatch that will work with the Note 1 so I accept these compromises.
i have been given a gear watch but i have an iPhone, is there any way i can activate it without a Samsung phone to just use as a watch
thanks

I'm hoping that if Samsung does release an Android Wear watch, that it is of similar hardware as our Gear 2s and some dev smarter than me can port the OS to ours. Otherwise, I may be upset since I just bought mine 2 weeks ago. That is of course depending on the features of the rumored watch.
If it's all of the "wear" functionality, I'm not gonna be happy. I got my gear 2 neo just over a month ago which means I can't return it...

I'm selling my gear 2 for a gear wear (or any good android wear watch) the second it hits the market. Im not ready to live thru tizens maturity for wearables. Until now i've been disappointed with the app selection and notifications. Any android app is a few lines of code away from being an android wearable app and that means a lot to an ecosystem that has a lot of added value with already a huge community behind it
More than likely I'll sell the gear and get one of these android wear watches. I don't know yet, we'll see next week.

The Neo wasn't that expensive after the recent sales so even if I ditch for AW, it won't be too much of a loss. I knew Android Wear was coming, yet kept the Neo as I'm hoping the awesome potential of the hardware can be unlocked eventually. I don't get the comments like "I'll be pissed, because I just got my Gear" - AW was announced awhile ago with expectation that devices will be dropping this summer - it shouldn't be a surprise to you guys.
AW will most likely have more Dev support and more apps. The only thing is I don't need -all- the apps, just specific ones to get what usage out of a smartwatch I want.
I'm encouraged as some of the stuff I have been requesting from Devs are being fulfilled. Maybe we get lucky and AW can get ported to this hardware (doubtful). If AW can't get ported to Neo, I hope Samsung announces an AW unit that has the IR blaster like the Neo- I'm open to trading to that. To my knowledge no other AW announced has the IR blaster, and I kind of want that.
It will be interesting to see what is announced. Just got my Gear 2 last week, and I love it, so I'm not looking to buy anything new anytime soon.

Best move for Samsung at this point it to ditch Tizen and work on converting the Galaxy Gear watches to Android Wear. This isn't a war they can win. This is very reminiscent to the HP Touchpad problem.
HP faced STRONG criticism when the Touch Pad failed similarly. HP didn't support a HP-OS conversion to Android and Cyanogen had to come to the rescue.

There is one major difference, Tizen has a lot of MAJOR players involved that will do everything in their power to develop it and make it a major android contender. HP was a lone player with their own OS in a world where there already was a lot of other mature OSs. The wearables is the only chance Tizen has to florish because there is nobody in that market yet, if it does it will be on your wrist. I like android wear much more but if done right, Tizen can be something worth it

Maybe Samsung should find a developer that can TIZEN a sim card, gps, and allow streaming music and video on the watch.

It would be awesome. Samsung has already stated that they are releasing a wear smartwatch, which is most likely a test to see what their customers will go for. Judging by the huge gaping hole in the Tizen app store, I don't blame them. By formally releasing their own Google Wear device, it looks like they have already made their decision as to the future of Tizen on smart watches. At least for now.

It seems unclear what the Samsung strategy is, as the new device has no camera or home button.
It sounded like Samsung siding with Google and maybe ditching Tizen.
Hopefully it will be a mix and Gear 2 & Neo users get Google Wear, but knowing Samsung after barely 3 months they may just ditch them.

In theory yes. I know that me and some other developers are working on creating custom roms and recovery for the gear 2/neo. Its just a matter of time before we can access the recovery. Once that is done we should be able to flash Android Wear on to them. The Live and Neo are almost the same compared to specs. The Gear 2, however, has a camera function that isn't present in Live. Also the IR function would be gone as well.

Other than the obvious, Gear/Gear 2 run Tizen. How are they different?
Can you make calls from the watch/accept/decline calls from the watch like you can on the Gear/Gear 2?
Also, how does it handle notifications? For example you receive a text or get Tweeted at, can you respond?
Thanks for any/all info!
Might go to Best Buy sometime this week and buy one, so would like all info possible!
It is quite different. Mind you, I'm also using custom null on gear 1
There is a mic, but no speaker
Vibrate seems very weak

Kind of disappointing that you cannot take a phone call on the Gear Live as you can on the Galaxy Gear and Gear 2.
Surprised I am typing this, but it is a backwards progress vs the Gear 2 as of right now. I dont have any confidence in Samsung long term for developing a capable platform and have all confidence in Google so I will ditch my Neo for it but Android Wear has a way to go.
