[Q] Home Button won't wake phone - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just upgraded to Rooted KK from Rooted NB4 after a long and tedious process. Now the Home button will not wake the phone or take me back to home screen with single press. I am running Wanam Exposed and tried checking and unchecking "Disable wake HOME button" no joy there. Double press works, takes me to S-Voice. Long press takes me to background apps. So I know the button works. It just won't work with a single press! Anybody else having this issue? Anybody know of a fix? Is there a setting that I am overlooking? Phone works perfect other than that. It's just annoying!

Are you using another launcher? I'm using Nova Lancher over stock NC2, and they have a setting for what happens when pressing home once.
Or maybe your Wanam installation was screwed, it actually disabled home button on even though it's showing it's not. If this is the case, you might wanna try reinstalling xposed framework, and then reinstall wanam.

In that case, i would say fuc it and factory reset. Might have to get it flashed again if factory reset doesnt fix it. I had a wierd thing happen to me where I had to flash it twice to get things working properly.

Does anybody happen to have the system/usr/keylayout files so I can compare them to what I got. Just in case one of mine got screwed up?

[Q] Need your help - Hardware buttons stop working

Hey, guys. I need your collective genius. I have a weird issue with my Note 3 that I can't figure out and it's driving me crazy. Basically, after a random period of time, my home button will stop working for single press (so, I can't go home). Long press still takes me to multitasking and the back and menu softkeys still work, but after the device turns off, the power button will not turn it back on. A reboot always fixes the issue, but then it crops up again later at a random time.
Relevant info:
I am rooted
I have Adaway installed and blocking ads
Running Nova Launcher with Teslaunread
Froze the Knox apps with Titanium backup, but I did not use TB to do a restore of any kind. I also have a few assorted bloatware apps frozen like Yahoo finance, but nothing critical.
I do not have a custom recovery and there are no other hacks (i.e. xposed framework, etc)
I uninstalled all non-essential apps, but there's no pattern to when it happens, so an app is unlikely to be the cause.
Basically, I'm just rooted with adblock and a few apps frozen. Nothing crazy. No custom rom or anything and I didn't mess with any system files. Does anyone have any ideas? My next step was to uninstall Nova, but I don't think that's the cause. It's maddening because it happens so randomly that there's no way to really nail down the cause and I'd really rather not do a wipe.
I dont think you have software issue I think its a faulty device. My galaxy tab 3 7.0 had the same issue where it would randomly stop working I had to trade it in
Try "swipe home button" app from Google play. Whrn you think the home button stops use that one instead and if swipe works then it might be a hardware issue if swipe doesn't work either then probably a software one and perform a hard reset. That's all I can think of now.

I forgot about that app! I was looking for a way to enable on-screen soft keys. Thanks.

So, it looks like it may have been the memory card. It was one of the SanDisk class 10s and I had had it for some time. It had around 1000 pics on it. I got a new class 10 SanDisk card, formatted it in the phone and haven't had a freeze or lock up since.

Lag

Do I have xposed framework installed with gravity box. I also have safestrap recovery. My phone was fine until about two days ago, it started lagging. Sometimes when I press the lock button to turn the screen on, I would have to press it a couple times before the screen turned on. Also, sometimes when I type it would lag extremely badly. And when I fly through the home screens, you can notice a lag. I tried to Uninstall xposed but it wasn't the problem. Can you guys help? Thanks.

I had a similar problem after installing Xposed. I Odined back to stock and rerooted, but didn't install Xposed. No issues now...

You may try the fix i posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784945 . Also when you tried uninstalling xposed did you actually go in to the framework menu and press uninstall? When I was figuring out if xposed was lagging I accidentally just uninstalled the xposed installer app.

Can no longer install from "Unknown Sources"

This is probably something I've done that is really stupid but I can't figure it out. My Nexus 6 is completely stock. Just got it, haven't unlocked the bootloader and haven't rooted it.
I have gone to the Security settings and enabled "Unkonwn Sources". I have even install Fdroid after doing so.
I'm now trying to install other apps (Amazon app store, and others from fdroid) and I can't.
It opens the install screen, tells me all the permissions the app will use, and gives me the "Cancel" and "Install" buttons. However, I cannot press the "Install" button. The cancel buttons works fine, but not the install button.
Anyone know what I've done wrong?
Thanks in advance folks.

Are you using some kind of screen filter application? Try switching the phone to landscape and tap all areas of "Install"
If you're using a screen filter application, disable it and then try again.
In my experience, this is usually related to third party screen related apps that control screen brightness. In my case, lux creates this behavior, and needs to be disabled to install things. If you don't have a third party app like this installed, try temporarily disabling ambient display or auto brightness.

Solved
Thank you both for your answers.
"Lux" was the culprit. Darn.
I got really tired of pressing "Install". Did it so many times it wouldn't surprise me if there was a dent in my screen, lol.

You know the Amazon app store can also be accessed from the regular Amazon app, right? No need to sideload the Amazon App Store apk anymore

"Couldn't add widget" in app switcher?

Anybody else see that? Seems odd that there's a widget in the app switcher.
same here
I don't have a solution, I just wanted you to know that you're not the only one seeing that.
That's the Google search widget. Haven't had that problem though.

can confirm that it is the Google search, if you have frozen it or uninstalled it you will get this error, once I installed google search again the error was gone.
That's actually a pretty convenient feature. Better than the swipe up thing IMO.

Same problem but I dont have it disabled or anything. I use it all the time but it's just missing from there
I had this too (and have never disabled Google Search)
A simple reboot into safe mode the then boot back to normal fixed it.
Press power button then long press on "Power Off" to access safe mode.

That worked
Just tried on my nexus 5 which had the same issue and it only seems to work if you actually open "Recent Apps" once you are in Safe Mode.
I think it is a profile error as the problem appeared on a brand new Nexus 6 after "restoring" from my Nexus 5 config.
Great!
Starting in Safe mode, opening the recent apps and rebooting fixed it for me as well - many thanks! :good::good:
Try using Gravitybox.
Gravitybox > Miscellaneous Tweaks > Search bar visibility
Set to Hide and remove space.
That will get rid of that annoyance.
Reinstall clean master
Uninstall clean master from settings > apps, then install it from play store. Worked for me.

Can't install apks all of a sudden?

I'm still on my first version of the software (I'm still thinking about rooting), but I've otherwise had no issues doing things like using Substratum or installing apks. Now, got some reason, even though the install screen hasn't changed, and I can select everything else on it, I can't select install. For ANY installation. Substratum, an AOD overlay apk, nothing. It's like my phone has just decided to ignore the install button. Has anyone else had this happen? Is it a Samsung theme issue, maybe?

Nevermind. I literally figured it out after posting this and tearing my hair out. Twilight was the app on top that was blocking the button. (Why it only blocked install, I don't even know.)
Screen ocerlays block install buttons and some switches in settings, also interfere with some apps kaspersky av will not work with screen overlays
