Anybody managed to connect the Gear & bluetooth handsfree on a non samsung device at the same time? Currently only one is allowed to be connected and if i receive a call while gear is connected, automatically the call is routed to the gear speaker phone and not on the phone.
I've been wondering if we can use the Bluetooth Auto Connect app (that we use on the _null ROM Gears) on our phones to prioritize the car bluetooth or a bluetooth headset over the Gear. I haven't tried yet, though, and that's obviously a solution with compromises. Subscribing...
Yes I would like to know if this is a possibility or tweak that can made.
I have my Gear (original) connected to my HTC One M8. Whenever I make\receive call from my M8 it automatically routes audio through to the gear. When it was linked to my S4 it was 'clever' enough to route audio to whichever device I accepted\dialled from.
Pretty sure it only works properly when using gear manager on [supported] touchwiz rom

I'm thinking instead of trying to get Google Now / voice-to-text running on the watch, why we can't use the watch as an a2dp device?
Relay the audio back and forth to the phone and let the phone do the processing and Internet.
I know it's possible because you can make a phone call from the watch, so why can't we tell Google Now or s-voice to send a text message?
Has one one given this a go? If so, is it as awesome as I imagine?? Also, how? I can't seem to get any audio other than call audio and on-watch audio out of the watch.
Also, this may be a stretch, but is there perchance a VNC-type app that can be run across bluetooth? View the phone's screen on your watch all willy-nilly and what's. Sounds crazy, I know, but it FEELS like it could be done.

This looks promising for talking to Google Now! I'm in class right now, but I'll give it a go here in about an hour.

Doesn't work. Just forwards media audio out the earpiece on the phone.
I'll do some fiddling with it later.
-----YET ANOTHER IDEA
I should just make a thread called "My perfect Gear in a perfect world", but what about fullscreen keyboard? You know how on your phone, you go to landscape mode and your keyboard takes up the whole screen with it's own textbox on top? Would there be a way to force that on the gear? Seems like every time I'm trying to type on the gear, the keyboard is covering what I'm typing.
using the phone's internet to do the actual processing of information is referred to as "TETHERING"... you are basically saying "let's use our galaxy gear as a microphone" ... this is what tethering would do. Initiate a request from the galaxy gear, process request using phone's internet, completing task at origin of initial request / location.
Now...... using the galaxy gear as a module to transmit system sound would be interesting idea... meaning we emulate our phones microphone via bluetooth connection (gear) but then you'd have to shut off the gear's sounds and all audio coming from the phone would somehow have to transmit through the gear... which i think would be very slow/ laggy... but also an interesting thought

I picked up a cheap bluetooth speaker to play music on, and I noticed it has an extra profile in the bluetooth settings on my phone that the Gear doesn't have. "Media Audio"
I can use the bluetooth speaker talk to Google Now, but not the Gear, so I"m thinking this is what's missing.
Is this a hardware thing? Can this be spoofed/modified to include the Media Audio for the Gear?
MEDIA AUDIO is a bluetooth profile that some device/receiver bluetooth DO have
for example i have a chinese bluetooth dialer that does have 2 bt profile.... os i can enable it for the phone audio.... AND for media audio. and wwhen i play a song on my phone.... also via youtube app, the audio is STREAMED TO THE BT RECEIVER ( the dialer) that does have a 3,5mm hole to use it with headphones. and i can HEAR youtube audio wireless using the BT dialer plus headphones...... thaks to media audio profile
It brings a tear to my eye that this was never implemented before the abandonment of the Null rom, A2DP is basically the only thing missing from it.
Anyone has any idea, why if you go outside the phones range GEAR disconnects, but when you come back it does not want to connect automaticly.
I mean this watch got to get a update soon. with all the problems and lack of software.
OK, maybe I got it.
If you go to Bluetooth settings and click GEAR, you got the choose:
-automatic connection
-ask me every time.
So automatic will be.
But I will not test it, because I already put it on local ebay for 199 eur.
PROBLEMS that Samsung has to fix, or the hell with them:
-controlling music via gear to your phone
-giving the option that gear connects to your phone only with the connection and not with the media. (can not use BT ear set to listen to music) like pebble
-automatic disabling the screen when you go to sleep mode
-giving the alarm in the gear directly and not over the phone
-when answering a phone call with the phone and not the gear, sound comes from the phone instead on the gear (this is the stupid thing ever. I answer the phone and people scream on my wrist)
this is the list witch i can not live without, so come quickly my moto 360.

These two have me confused by exactly what you mean. Obviously you are getting rid of it, im more just curious if im understanding correctly.
I have a BT headset connected and have listened to music directly from my Neo while its still connected to my phone, is this not what you mean?
And when i answer a call from my phone, it comes through my phone, so i am confused by this one as well.

WHAT I meant:
I. example
1 (pebble , phone, BT headset)
All are connected, I can listen to my music which is on my phone, control it via pebble (volume up/down, next song pause....) and listen on my BT headset (BEATGO2)
2. (GEAR and BT Headset)
OK, you can only have 2,4 GB of music on GEAR (for the first time is OK, but I'm not gona change all the time my music collection
I connect BT headset via GEAR and listen to music.
3. (Not possible)
My GEAR connects to my phone. Now I want to listen to my music and put my BT headset. I connect my BT headset and my GEAR immediately disconnects.
Now I can not control my music via GEAR but via BT headset and I don't have GEAR ONLINE so it suxs. And after music, I have to manually connect my GEAR to my phone, and than my BT headset disconnects.
II. example
My gear is connected to my phone (which is the main part of the smart watch).
I got a call. I quickly pull out my phone and answer the phone. I start talking on my phone, but sound is coming not through my phone , but through my GEAR.
Microphone and speaker are on GEAR, I have to click BT speaker OFF on my PHONE to talk through my phone. EVERY TIME. And I don't like to talk all the time over GEAR, In crowded places NO GO.
I wanted to disconnect PHONE functions on my BT setting on my GEAR connection, but there is not a possibility. If i just click anything on GEAR , it just disconnects.
And I will not click every time that i have a call. First ANSWER that quickly BT disconnect,.(it is just stupid)
I hope you all have a good picture of the problem.
Am I missing something in setting or what.
OK, I don't have Samsung phone , I have LG G2, but any case It shouldn't do this.
Im guessing the phone call thing happens to be a downfall of not using a TW device? Seems maybe the phone sees the watch as a headset and tries communicating that way? just a theory.
I think your issue is using a non Samsung phone and thinking a device that's only officially compatible with Samsung phone's will and should work fully.
And finally what gets me angry is people not reading what a device can do BEFORE buying it! If you don't then the only person to blame is yourself and not the company.

why, I know it's not compatible, And I know it works... but this are the small problems, that no one knows before you try. I would go in one minut to SGS4 but I love my G2 and no Samsung for me. Been there done that.
So thanks for the info, than on Samsung phone, calls work.
We are one step closer.
Still I don't know if I'm gona sell it. I put 200 eur so in other way I'm gona wait for the update and work it than. (I like this watch... but...)
I have no option on my z1 for automatic reconnect, and have same trouble when getting out of range, the gear never reconnect unless I toggle bluetooth off and on ( on watch or on phone) or clicking connect in gear manager. Must be a drawback for not using samsung phone as it works with my bluetooth headset.
Call works perfectly though.
If your on a phone that says auto reconnect make sure you hit it, I had to test it with my wife's phone just to make sure it worked properly....If you have a Samsung phone it will auto this for you.....If you have a phone that doesn't have either feature ask your manufacturer about it or ask about it the Q&A section of XDA in device category to see how activate this feature.

i have problem reconnect too, i'm using s4 zoom and every time my gear is getting back to range its not reconnecting.
i have 4.2.2, dont have the option auto connect in bluetooth settings.
any ideas?
Hi there, I have my Galaxy Gear 1 running NULL_23
But I have the problem that it keeps playing the same ringtones that I set for my iPhone even though I already put my GEAR into MUTE or VIBRATION mode. Its very annoying when I'm in class.
Does your Gear do the same?
I'm trying to see if I upgrade my Gear 1 to TIZEN OS, and it will completely 100% mute in MUTE or VIBRATION mode or not. Because my main function is just answer call and time. However, not sure if the Tizen OS is pairing with iPhone somehow. I remember I read some thread saying that the Tizen OS is able to pair with any phone via bluetooth, but you need to install some 3rd party bluetooth connection so that non Samsung phone can pair with it. However I cant find it again anymore.
Hello,
I just purchased and installed a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX. So far it's pretty slick. I'll be using it with my Galaxy S6.
I noticed that when I try to disable the Call Audio Bluetooth profile from the phone side, it re-enables itself... like I HAVE to use the NEX for call audio.
I would like to be able to turn on my BT headset and use that instead, without much hassle. There are definitely times where I'll be in the car with other people and don't want the whole car to hear the conversation. It also presents a call quality issue with the far end being able to hear the system speakers.
Do I have to unplug USB from the NEX to make this work?

I have same unit, try having headset connected before plugging in your phone. That may work

I'm bumping this up. With my previous phone (LG V10) I could select which device use to make phone calls, Android Auto device or a bluetooth headset (Plantronics). Now with a Oneplus 3T that is not possible anymore.
AA automatically rerouting "BT phone" to main AA device. That is really annoying.
If someone knows a workaround to this please give advice, thanks...
You have to have it enabled, in a nutshell the unit (Pioneer) declares that it has bluetooth capabilities and declares the bluetooth mac address when it initialize the connection, than Android Auto (trough Google Play Services which is a system app) will enable the bluetooth, set up a pairing if it doesn't exist and connect to it, so no matter what you do it will always connect to it, the only way to "avoid" this is:
a) Get another phone which connects to the Pioneer bluetooth, then connect the phone (haven't tried this, but probably will do the trick)
b) Alter the pioneer unit so it doesn't send the bluetooth mac and it doesn't declare the bluetooth service (almost impossible, you will need to replace the app on the unit)
I use Remote Phone (https://justremotephone.com) for handeling calls at work. Remote Phone uses bluetooth handsfree profile for the purpose of controlling my phone from the laptop.
When my phone is connected to my laptop with Phone audio, Input device and Contact sharing enabled, it can only connect to my BT headset using Input device and Contact sharing.
When my phone is connected to my BT headset or a BT-speaker with handsfree-support (e.g. my car) with Phone audio, Input device and Contact sharing enabled, my smartwatch (Gear S3) looses Phone audio (or disconnects).
When my phone is connected to my smartwatch (Gear S3) with Phone audio, Input device and Contact sharing enabled, it often fails to register and automatically connect to other known devices.
It would seem that the N8 Sirocco can not connect to multiple devices using Phone audio profile.
I have sendt an e-mail to Nokia support addressing this issue, and will post the answer here.
I'm still on Android 8.0.0, and hopefully this is a SW-problem that is corrected in 8.1.
I'm guessing there is not so many N8 Sirocco owners out there yet, but of the few that is out there, has anyone else experienced similar BT handling issues?
This might not be a problem with the N8 Sirocco, but a problem with BT handling on the Gear S3.....
i have a major BT connection issues with my GEAR s3. It doesnt pair at all. the process gets stuck on the galaxy and stars moving around and saying setting up your device. Any help on how to connect my gear s3?
solution?

Hi MrMastodon. Did you solve the topic? As I have similar issue with Nokia 8 and car BT device + GPS BT tethering...
I completely forgot to follow up, it turns out that the Galaxy Gear is known for causing exceptionally bad Bluetooth-performance when paired with non Samsung devices.. I sold it.
