You need to ROOT the device, install CWM or TWRP recovery (from the Play Store), then follow the directions in the thread of the custom ROM. If you have a non-rooted ICS phone, pay careful attention to the unlocking and rooting instructions: the bootloader is locked.
Best ROM? Pull out the daggers....
I'm of the opinion that Gingerbread ROMs are best for the P970; they are stable, fast, reliable, and every component works.
ICS ROMs for the P970 are fairly stable, but subject to freezes, lockups, quirks, and everything else.
ROMs after ICS (Jellybean & Kitkat) are very quirky, with some componets outright not working.
If I were installing a ROM on SOMEONE ELSE'S PHONE, I would install either Zeus 6.4 (from this Link) or Marvel 9 (with this PATCH).
I use IZS v2 by Huexx, it works very nice

2. Where can I find a guide/tutorial for installing custom rom and kernel??
3. When changing roms, if I back up my apps with titanium pro and restore on the new rom, they will work fine?
4. What are voodoo fix and lag fix?? DO I need to install them separately? And how do I install them?

Hello, what is the best ROM for ICS on Samsung Galaxy S? I'm fed up of stock ROM being slow and want something fast and want ICS I've never flashed before and downloaded "Onecosmic's ICS Port Android 4.0.3 RC2.11" but don't have a clue on how to start flashing it, as he hasn't made a noob tutorial
Any help would be appreciated.
How about trying teamhacksung's ICS port aka soon to be CM9 rom? Just follow the guide on the first page.

But I'm a noob :-( I don't even know how to root or put CWM on... what ROM would you recommend for noob like me, ICS one or CM7? I Just want something really fast that will make games smoother and that works fully....
Do you know how to flash a kernel via Odin? You will be rooted and have CWM automatically once you flash a custom kernel. I would recommend you to use a custom GB rom, as not all apps are compatible with ICS and more bug free.

oh ok.. is the standard CM7 the fastest ROM then?
In my opinion, no. Perhaps you would want to try the Simplicity rom.
Where can I get the latest Official Gingerbread ROM?
Either from B2C (LG Update Tool) or you grab the kdz (google for it, or search the forum) and use R&D tool plus workaround to flash it (see in my noob how to )
What about those? Can I istall them using ROM manager?
and whick version is the latest?
http://get.cm/?device=p970
Yeah you can, but they are buggy, but that's your own choice, read the CM discussion thread about it. The latest is the one on top
Cm buggy? Even Zeus rom has bugs... let the man choose for himself. For me cm is by far better than Zeus or other cooked rom. But that is just my point of view, test a lot of roms, then choose whatever you want.
Remember when flashing a new rom do data wipes and cache wipes.
Trolling in the deep
Hi,
Recently i have just switched from IPhone to Galaxy Note, while really need some advise on get it "rooted" and flash with ICS (Since many people feed back its eventually better" perhaps someone can guide me a proper way of backing up my system as well as flashing it?
my phone details as below:-
Model - GT-N7000
Android Version - 2.3.6
Baseband - N7000DXKL2
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA1(I suppose this should be KJ1? but on my phone it shows this...)
Build number - GINGERBREAD.XXLA1
in such situation should i proceed to get it flash with the KJ1 method?
yes your ROM is newer, so you have to downgrade it.
You can downgrade to KJ1 pre rooted ROM, download link you may find on 4th line on my signature.

So in summary all i need to do is to downgrade my ROM to KJ1, follow the guide to root it, then only flash it to ICS?
by doing all these will it void the warranty of the phone?
Forget about ICS for right now..I would consider it advanced to install and for beginners I would stick to rooted GB builds until you got more familar with the phone and flashing etc..

Yes, Get Root + CWM
To install ICS, follow installation guide available with ICS ROM you want to install
Somwat agree with MrDSL, at least you shud read a lot before installing ICS.
Warranty can be regain by Reflashing Stock ROM.
Yup, indeed doing more research before i proceed to flash my SGN, sincerely thank you for all the advise and guidance though.
Rooting is pretty clear to you now I think.
As for flashing ICS ROMs, I don't actually agree with anyone above. I have earlier flashed TeamRocket's ICS ROM, Imilka's AOSP ROM and ICS Stunner on my note. ICS Stunner is actually one of the best you could have for ICS. (Almost everything works, or rather everything actually works ). Now I am using Imilka's CM9 port from SGS2, very very smooth, stable and most of the things work. Download and install instructions are pretty clear in their respective threads. I would actually suggest you to go ahead with ICS ROMs (ICS Stunner or CM9 especially)!
PM me if you need any help!

Hi guys,
Well I'm a android user and I have a SE Arc S and I know quite a few things about flashing new roms, kernels, etc...
My girlfriend has a galaxy mini and she's complaning about the phone's performance. So I want to install a custom rom with a better performance but I know little about the "how to" in Samsung.
I've searched but I couldn't find any tutorial. Can someone post a link please?
Thanks
EDIT: Found the tutorials but in SE phone we have to unlock the bootloader, is it necessary on the Galaxy minis? Or is it just flashing through CWM recovery?!
Try here www.yagyagaire.blogspot.com I'm sure you'll find some info
If you have understood methods then Try flashing CM7 (or ROMs based on cm7) for best customizations or try Emanon v6 for touchwiz look and better stability....
sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Hit thnx it will take your 1KB only..
dont have to unlock bootloader in samsung...just install CWM recovery, and you good to go..

For Daily uses, u can try CM7 with the stable one.

How to install custom rom:
1st: the device must have OS Gingerbread 2.3.x
2nd: install CWM via Odin
3rd: install custom rom ( .zip file ) from CWM (recovery mode)
it's running 4.0.4
