so i got refurb and went through the whole process of unlocking bootloader, fastbooting twrp. (i'm hardly a newb and understand fastboot commands) hell, i'd s off if it were availible for my hboot. anyways when i'm in recovery and i go to wipe caches etc.. it tells me failed, can't mount cache. wtf can i do here? iv'e tried multiple versions of twrp and nothing seems to be working. any help would be appreciated!
yes i'm s on, yes bootloader is unlocked, tried goo manager first, then resorted to fastboot method once that failed. it says available space 37mb... which is definitley NOT right.
You can get S-OFF with hboot 1.57, actually. Either with Firewater or Sunshine.
Not so sure about the issue with the recovery, however. Which version of TWRP do you currently have?
(On a random note, did you used to be on the EVO LTE forums too?)
Sunshine costs 25$... No thanks. I'm using the latest twrp. I tried fastbooting about 4 different versions and all of them do the same thing. It's like it doesn't have the room to mount the cache partition... It says 37mb available... Which is bs cause it's a fresh phone. I'm sure there's some terminal commands but I'm clueless in that aspect. I'm more of a flasher with minor knowledge in fastboot commands. But I've been doing this since the og evo days. And yes I've been on the evo lte forums before.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Free mobile app
The name caught my eye. I remember you from there. And I'm pretty much in the same as far as phones, EVO > EVO LTE > ONE. lol
I hear you on the Sunshine costs, but apparently, this works when nothing else does...not all phones can use the Firewater exploit.
With Firewater, I got S-OFF after unlocking, gaining root, making a backup and then running CM 11, gapps and then running Firewater after rooting CM 11 again. Got thru on the second bottle. There's not a modified hboot with red text removed yet. But you'll be S-OFF.
Believe me, I feel your pain. This phone was definitely built a lot differently than the past ones.
There has to be something to figure out. Did you make a backup of the current ROM? If so, maybe you could do a wipe of data and the caches. You shouldn't have to touch system, but if you do, that's what the nandroid is for in case if you run into an issue.
Do NOT wipe internal storage. I repeat DO NOT WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE. I'm sure you know that though.
I can't even make a backup lol. I can't even wipe caches. So if I can't wipe caches/data/etc.. I can't flash a custom Rom. I know I'll have to fastboot the boot.img being s on still but that's not a big deal. I just want twrp to friggin work so I can move on with my day. Luckily stock Rom is still functional and I can still use vanilla sense 6.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Free mobile app
You might be able to flash via an otg cable and microsd card from your LTE if you still have it? It's definitely on my buyers list.
And I figured that you tried to clean your phone while in Sense 6, yeah?
If I go in to storage settings in twrp it says on 37mb available... I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out why it won't see more than that. When I attempt to wipe caches it says "failed can't mount cache partition" so I go in to mount and try to manually hit the "x" on cache and it won't even let me....
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Free mobile app
What about while you're in the ROM itself? It probably won't do anything, but you may as well weigh all of your options.
No I don't have an otg cable. I just posted in the thread for the latest twrp. Hoping someone might have a solution.

I might of missed it, but did you try Firewater S-Off? And I will just assume you are using the newest TWRP (I know CWM is having the same issue), just ruling out points of failure.

This morning my phone froze while i was on facebook, and the only way i could get it working again was to take out the battery. So this worked, all is well in the world! Then this afternoon, it did it again. Just froze while i was in an application.
So i did the battery trick again, except now im stuck in a loop. i turn it on it goes from HTC to cyanogen start up screen, then the a black screen, then back to the cyanogen start up screen. And thats literally all my phone is doing now.
Anybody have any ideas how i go about fixing this issue?
I was running cyanogenmod 7.1, with hboot 1.16 (bootloader unlocked), but it was s-on i used lynts guide to unlock bootloader and install the customer rom (cyanogenmod)
Any help would be great
Thank you

Did you do a full wipe before flashing cm7.1?
Full wipe = factory reset + format /data, /cache and /system.
Sent from my Incredible S using XDA App
yeah i did all of that, ive been running cyanogen 7.1 for about 3 week. and then today it just did this. I can get into hboot menu, i noticed in another topic somebody stated go into recovery and reinstall from sd card. So i did this, but im just stuck in the cyanogen loop again.
Should i try full wiping it all again, and then reinstalling cyanogen again?
hi. try to see if you can restore the HTC RUU. put your phone in fastboot and download this RUU and let it do the work.

hope it works.
right, ive managed to sort it out. I did a factory wipe, and reinstalled the rom and then flashed the rom through CMD becasue ive got hboot 1.16
Is there a way to create a backup or this, and if it ever happens again i can just restore the backup i create, and i dont have to flash the image or use CMD. As its just took ages to set my phone up to how i want it etc.
I know i have something called nandroid backups but im not really sure how to use that to its full advantage?

Nandroid backup is a backup which backups the whole system. Including contacts, apps, data, etc.
Cool eh? And not to forget it will backup your current rom.
To do nandroid backup, you have to boot to recovery (e.g. clockworkmod). Select backup and restore, then press backup. Once done, you're done!
Keep in mind if you flashed another rom and wanted to restore the backup you've done, you have to take the boot.img, restore via recovery, and then flash boot.img via fastboot.
It could be found at /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups/2011.12.29 - 21.15/boot.img
About the 2011.12.29 - 21.15 (example), that is an info on what date and time (obviously) you did a nandroid backup.

The only 'maintenance' you can do that doesn't affect your setup and installed apps would be to Clear Cache and Clear Dalvik Cache in recovery mode. If you perform a Full Wipe/System Reset, you will lose you installed apps, messages, settings ,etc.
Hi tpbklake,
In terms of maintenance, you could always check out a couple of apps I use regularly.
SD Maid and Root Explorer are a good way of keeping your SD card clean and healthy and help clear up inconsistencies in directories.
They don't make much of a difference to the functionality of the phone drastically, but do help nonetheless.
Hope it's of some use to you.

This should be a reply to the main topic in the Dev section, but it's my first post. This is the only place I can post...
I'm new to Android, I've been an iPhone user since the beginning. I remember going through the steps to jailbreak and unlock the 1st iPhone by hand via command line. And I've been jailbraking iPhones ever since. Before that I was flashing ROMs to my Windows Phones and modding Xbox's. Now I'm ready for Android, but I'm stumped:
The HTC One is my first Android phone. It's the Sprint phone so I'm attempting to flash with ViperROM 1.0.3. I'm unlocked running TWRP and have followed the tips I've found to a 't'. But every time I flash, ViperROM boots, takes about 3 mins, Reboots, begins Upgrading Apps (a random number of apps each time, once 37, once 83, once 232) then finishes at the lockscreen. Unlock and the HTC setup begins. The keyboard disappears (from existence, from the shade notifier it want me to pick a keyboard, but won't let me), I never get network service, and after a few minutes the phone reboots. Once it reboots it comes to a black screen with on the notification bar with the battery and time. Then reboots again after a while. Never stops.
What I'm I doing wrong!? I'm wiping everything clean before I install, I've checked the MD5 of the ZIP, I've re-downloaded the ROM, nothing is working. What am I missing?
Maybe you should start with viper 1.0 and see how that one goes

I've figured out the problem, but no solution yet.
It's TWRP. For some reason it is not mounting /system. Not found a way to get it to mount /system on boot. You can mount it via 'Mount' from within TWRP and install viper without any problem, but when it reboots it's still not mounting /system
I tried using a plain stock ROM had the exact same problems. The OS can't see /system.
Any one know how to fix TWRP so it mounts /system? I've already tried overriding it with CWD then reinstalling TWRP. Didn't work. And CWD isn't HTC One Compatible, yet.

Yes. I did. That's how I started the process. And yes, I've tried Vipers's R/W root.
If that doesn't work I would relock it, install the RUU and start over. Seems your recovery install went wonky. Maybe your download was corrupted.?? Be patient, you'll get it bud.

Now, I did try last night to flash a stock RUU (used this RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250904)

good luck. and make sure your bootloader is locked before you do it.
See my post on incremental updates in this forum or basically use TWRPs sideload adb feature in advanced . You need the Hassoon2000 all in one toolkit for the HTC One. Watch wwjoshdew on YouTube he covers it. Press Shift in the all in one root toolkit folder and select Run command prompt here. Once you do that put the phone in adb sideload mode, wipe all caches and then sideload the zip file with Viper 1.0.3 to your phone no need to change the name of thefile. TWRP will rename this to sideload.zip for you and begin to reflash your new ROM. When it is complete it will reboot to system. Make sure you make a Nandroid and never ever do a factory wipe in TWRP as I found out the hard way. It WILL erase your backups.lol

Did you do the advanced wipe from TWRP before flashing the ROM?
I got my phone working again, at the least, by running the RUU.
I'll attempt to install vipersROM again this weekend and see if re flashing the TWRP works.

Yes, I did. But installing the ROM wasn't the problem as I was able to mount /system from within TWRP. Wouldn't mount though when booting the ROM.
*Update*
Ran that RUU and re-flashed to stock on Monday night and ran stock for the rest of the week.
Yesterday I tried it all again and all went well with out an issue. (Flashed viperROM 1.0.4). Aside from one re-flash this morning after I tried installing some AirPlay app that halted the phone and kept it from starting up. But after a quick re flash without a wipe, that fixed that quickly.
It was a bad recovery flash. So, in the future if anyone has this problem and finds this post and skips to the end for an answer:
I used Hassoon2000 All-In-One Toolkit for HTC One
- Re-Lock Bootloader
- Re-flash to Stock via the correct RUU (extract the *.ZIP and run setup.exe. In this specific situation: Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_1.29.651.7_RUU.zip)
- Unlock Bootloader
- Flash Recovary (i.e.: TWRP)
- Then one of the following to Flash a ROM:
+ Sideload a compatible ROM via ADB (In this specific situation: viperROM for the Sprint HTC One)
+ Upload ROM to Phone via DroidExplorer and Install directly from TWRP
Glad to see you got it figured out. :good:
Hi!
just reviving the thread, had the same issue you see, but on phone there's no imei.
pls help!
I am rooted on a Sprint One and had stock HTC. Then downloaded the Viperrom 1.0.4 and had no trouble get it on, did not loose any of my settings or folders. Now when I download and try to run the viper 1.1.0 zip, it does the install and starts up shows my walpaper and icons appropriately, then crashes and constant reboots to the same point. Able to get on to recovery and reinstall the back up i had made with no rpoblems.

Will I loose all my settings and data?

I did the same thing as you. Mine got caught in a bootloop, I couldn't get the damn thing to force restart either. The bottom home & back key just kept flashing no matter how long I held it. I had to wait forever for the battery to die. I think something might be wrong with the restart fail safe HTC built in. So I relocked it, flashed back to stock, go to sprint store of course it reboots perfect every time. The people at the store are morons I hate going there. The guy says to me you just hold it down and the restart menu will come up. I'm like if the phone is frozen that doesn't work. None the less I don't expect them to replace something that is working. So I re-unlocked, cleared everything and installed latest build fresh works great haven't had any issue. I didn't back up either so I had to re set everything up which takes forever. I'm not a fan of restoring backups anyway as it can cause issues. I will be doing a nandroid next time and be more careful with dirty flashing. I always dirty flashed on MeanBean on my LTE without issues and Mike made it very clear when dirty update was not advised. In my opinion they shouldn't release a major update that will bootloop a phone over goo manger. It's still my fault but I didn't think twice about it when I tried to update viper. It still pisses me off that I have to fight with it to get the phone to reboot, the entire point of a fail safe is incase something goes wrong. It's the first time I have ever bootlooped a phone.

Thanks all, I am just where I was. so many opinions and would like to have a concensus.
It won't wipe internal unless you specifically check it in advanced. Never wipe internal, but davlic, cache, data and system are fine and constitutes a full wipe..you should always wipe that way when trying different roms or going to a new base. Or use a superwipe script to make things easier.

RUU following this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390821
All of you should really start your own topic so people see it and help you.
So i'm basically a total noob when it comes to this kind of thing.
I recently rooted my new HTC ONE (International) using a method i found on htconeroot.com
After that the phone could not read the SD card. Every time i open storage in the settings menu it closes.
The phone also would reboot at random moments.
I tried to fix it using some other methods and messed it up. I deleted the original OS and i cant access the backups i made because i switched recoveries from TWRP to CWM. Even when i switched back to TWRP, i couldn't find the backups.
I tried installing two roms (Android Revolution and Maximus) but when i did they would not boot completely and would be stuck on the boot logo.
I cannot flash stock RUU because it is not out yet (1.29.401.12)
I tried to use the Nandroid method i found on this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267435
But the installation aborted for some reason and would not work.
PLEASE can anyone help me find a solution or show me how i make the nandroid backup method work?

Ok so i had a friend of mine who's a tech-wizz when it comes to this kind of thing help me out. He explained pretty much everything but i still have a problem.
I basically erased the system by accident (playing with TWRP), so i flashed CWM and restored my phone using a nandroid backup for version 1.29.401.12, which was the original version the phone came in.
The backup worked although it still has the same bugs that i had when i first rooted the damn thing.
Basically, some apps would just restart themselves right when i open them, such as google chrome. They would eventually open after a couple more tries. The phone is a bit laggy, and would also reboot at random moments, which i think normally happen when i do something with the phone such as install a new app or simply post a facebook status. Is it possible that i might've erased an important system file? Cuz the backup should've restored all missing system and data files.
Oh and i also couldn't take a photo of the bootloader because my camera has the same image taking capabilities of a potato.
So i'll just copy down everything on there.

I looked everywhere but all the threads i found said that the RUU's for the 1.29 base are not out yet so i had to use the nandroid backup instead.
This phone is killing me
I tried re-rooting and giving the phone 10 mins to stable.
I tried flashing AndroidRevolution rom
I tried several nandroid backups, including the software version that i was initially on (1.29.401.12)
Just now i flashed an odexed rom version 2.17.401.1 and it still keeps on restarting.
I'm starting to believe this phone is fake.
Are flashing the boot.IMG through fastboot after flashing the ROM ?

You may try doing a data factory reset in settings/backup and restore/reset the phone.

Not really, i install the rom using the recovery. Is there a way to flash it using fastboot?

No it doesn't, but normally rooting the device shouldn't really do this, right?
Cause i've looked everywhere and no one seems to be having this problem with the HTC ONE.
Is there a way to tell if it's fake or not?

Doubt it will be fake, you'd have to be pretty new to not spot a fake one

Ok, so that means it something i did, which can hopefully be fixed
Hey guys. Sorry if its been posted before but I did search with no solution found. So I did have a HTC One that I S-Off'd, rooted and everything else and I have had a few other modded HTC devices, but the issue isn't with mine.
My sister also has a HTC One which randomly stopped working the other day. Its stuck in a bootloop where it reaches the One boot animation then restarts. Its not unlocked, its still S-On and not rooted.
The only thing I can access is Hboot and therefore the only thing I can really use is fastboot commands. When choosing recovery the screen just goes black and it restarts.
Under any normal circumstance I'd unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and reflash the stock ROM or something but she NEEDS the files on her phone. She's OK with losing apps and app data and settings etc but the user data can't be wiped.
Again sorry if the solution is out there already but I've been up since 6am, been at work all day, had to drop people off and I've been trying to get this phone working. Its now 1am and she needs this phone ASAP. Cheers in advance, Huzi.

theirs no real magic here... you can try fastboot erase cache and fastboot reboot-bootloader
from bootloader you can go to stock recovery when you see the android on his back hold volume up and tap the power button
you should see the recovery menu try erase cache their also.
everything past that gets more and more destructive stock recovery / factory reset / try to bootup phone ..followed by unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP and doing a format data. Then pushing a rom onto the phone

Thanks for the quick reply but I can't get into the stock recovery either. Really trying to avoid unlocking the bootloader etc since the files are important (she doesn't backup anything)

nope and the stock recovery is pretty useless in this regard also ... what you need right now is a time machine

Well there's the issue... my time machine is out of fuel and the time circuits were fried in an incident involving lightning...
Sorry for the super noob question but do RUUs wipe all storage including pictured etc? The last time I used an RUU was about 3 years ago

Yes they do a full wipe .. if you were s-off you could make a custom RUU that did not wipe the phone though
Your situation is why HTC sold the phone with a 25gig dropbox included, If people choose not to use it as a backup then they find out the hard way why it was their. All the new HTC's come with Free Google drive Accounts for the same reason
