Google I/O Chromecast Announcement - Google Chromecast

Did anyone catch the list of phones that will be able to mirror to a Chromecast announced at Google I/O today?
The photo of the presentation is cut off at the Samsung phones!

Has anyone heard ETA on this update? Can't wait for the new feature.

They said it will be rolled out via google play services over the next few weeks.

Hopefully the HTC One M8 will be supported too.

Arrr, looks like I might have to upgrade phone...

It does seem a little odd that the M7 is listed as supported, but the M8 is not.

I'm betting it is more OS dependant than actual phone hardware...
If you can run the latest AOSP your probably ok...

I just installed Google Play Services 5.0.77 (via Android Police), and casting doesn't seem to be enabled yet (Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013). Thinking there must be a firmware update for Chromecast also needed.

i've seen the cast screen on my n7 in the quick settings. I guess this is what its about, just need a firmware update on the chrome cast and I think we'll be set.

Trust me, the feature is in the firmware, it just needs to be enabled as an available app through googles whitelist.

ummm mirroring works for me using the cast screen button. i even uninstalled mirror and allcast just to be sure it wasn't an app that was doing it.
Sound is working as well when I mirror.

Nope just needs a whitelisting....
Those who are running Eureka already have it whitelisted I believe...

Correct. Thus why it works for me on my Eureka Chromecast but not my stock Chromecast.

17250 no worky for me.

Android L now has a dedicated "cast display" option.
It seems to be working great on Eureka 17250! Lag is quite minimal while casting, I am surprised on how smooth it is.
Great addition to the Chromeast for sure!
---
Edit: I tried to cast a game and the audio wasn't going very nicely.
Also if I press the standby button, the N7 will not wake... unless I unplug the chromecast.

Apps that are incompatible with the Nexus 7

Looking for a list of non-manufacturer-specific apps available in the Google Play store that won't install/run on the Google Nexus 7.
e.g. "Bank of America for Tablet" app.
Why would this app not work on the Nexus 7?

I have CamScanner on my DroidX.
Great app, but it needs a decent camera built into the device (which the N7 lacks).

How did you get it (Best Buy app) to become available on the Google Play Store for a Nexus 7?
I hear one needs to edit the manifest file and remove android.permission.CAMERA ?

Gotta wonder what it is about this Android app that makes it work on a Google TV (running Android) and not a Nexus 7 tablet.
I've seen Amazon Instant Video working via a PS3 (non Android) on a non-Google TV. Too bad there isn't a Google Nexus 7 compatible app in the Google Play Store to do the same thing.
In time, Amazon will learn to do it the Netflix way, and it might actually work on the Nexus 7.
Have you read the user comments on the Play Store for this app?

Um.... Time for me to leave this thread. Do some googling on how apps are configured and filtered for devices.

Opera Max will help you save data traffic on all your apps in Nexus Devices

Opera is working in a new service called Opera Max that will help you save data on all your apps, not just the browser. It compresses data for every image, video and text file downloaded to your device regardless of the application downloading it.
It works by installing the Opera Max application on your Android device. The app configures a VPN server on your device and routs all your data through it. The server will compress all data before sending it to your device, thus saving your data and time. This works for all apps except those that use https, so any secure content such as online payments and mail services won’t be compressed.
The service is currently in beta and Opera is looking for people in the US to test it out for them. You will find the instructions to sign up for it and the download link for the app in the source link below.

Nice... all my data is now routed through Opera's servers?? I hope I can get into the Beta before it fills up!!!!
Nexus 5 is currently not supported.
We have temporarily disabled support for Nexus 5 , Androis OS 4.4.x (Kit Kat). We had a number of users raise issues . After some preliminary investigation , it seems that Google shipped several known VPN API bugs in their Kit Kat release: http://phandroid.com/2013/11/12/android-kitkat-vpn-bug/ .
We just armed our development team with nexus 5's and other Kit Kat enabled devices. We are going to get to the bottom of this (if its an Opera Max app issue, we will fix it, if its Google's problem we will raise the issue with them and urge them to provide a fix asap).
Appreciate your patience as we iron out the kinks in our beta.
Please stay tuned for Opera Max updates.

I don't have Miracast (or the like) installed, I only have 3rd party casting apps apps like Netflix, Pandora, and Google Play Music and the official Chromecast app
The moto x under settings has two ways to connect wireless displays 1) cast such as chromecast and 2) wireless display which is miracast.
I've a thread for miracast connection method not working. To use enable wireless in setting of display , enable wireless display on phone and search for device once found select and follow connection instructions. With mine when TV tries to complete connection to phone it fails.
At the moment im very disappointed in that no one on this forum and motorola support forum has provided an answer to my problem.

I have an lg tv, it doesn't work with it. Yet it works with every other TV I have tried. It most likely is the connection type/software the lg is running. If the phone works with every other brand, but not one particular brand, it most likely is not the phones fault, but rather the LG TV. Its unfortunate, but not every manufacturer will make their equipment compatible with everyone else. Whether it is an LG, motorola, or combined issue...it doesn't make the phone any less of a great phone.
Right thanks, what couldn't understand is that the lg is WiFi certified as is the moto. So being certified is not an assurerity of device connection.

True. I have had problems in the past with my lg tv connecting or staying connect to wifi certified devices that are from brands other than LG. Hopefully LG fixes this with a firmware update, but I won't get my hopes up.

I hoping it fixes the random disconnects. Never happened until the last FW update, then I got one every other day and it was pretty tiresome. Also never tracked it down but I keep randomly seeing something about host stopped working as well as "cannot install app to the Gear" when turning on the phone after being off or something of that nature.

Seems to be improved user interface, havnt seen any difference yet, and S-Health performance, that i also have yet to see any difference in.

I can see it but still can't access the clocks in my gear manager after installing it. I am going back to d8. I downloaded the dd firmware for the UK and it gave me a fitness manager app. S health works now and syncs. But I started having an issue where my phone answers automatically or disconnects whenever I get a call while connected to my gear 2 neo. Also there is no us update for the dd firmware. I have searched high and low, but the knowledge and support for the gear 2 is very limited. Too many issues being reported out the box. My assumption is people who are rooted or using custom roms are having the most trouble. Good luck early adopters.
Thank you for the heads up. I'll wait

Edit: It's probably a DPI thing. It will get sorted out soon.

never worked on any of my tablets. Pull it off another device and and install. Will work fine

Have you noticed any issues using 480?
I thought it was an Android 5 issue. My N5, when updated to 5.0, didn't allow me to download it either.
I'll try changing DPI to see if it works.
I'm not 100% sure. My DPI is set to 493, and I can download it. But what I cannot download is the ESPN FC app.
My device is compatible for this app ..
This might not be a popular opinion, but if you can't download ScoreCenter, just download Yahoo Sports. Yahoo's app is a million times better than ESPN's. Trust me, I used to swear by ScoreCenter, but I heard a bunch of people on Twitter hyping up Yahoo's app. I finally gave it a try and was blown away. I don't even bother with ScoreCenter anymore.
Just use market helper to spoof your phone.
Found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146216
I think issue isn't android lolipop its the screen resolution that i is causing the issue I pulled apk using myappsharer from another phone I can post if anybody needs.
did they finally start using video clips that aren't from dial-up? that's the reason i uninstalled earlier this year.

No. It was never "compatible" with any tablet I've owned. I'm sure the issue is screen size
