GAPPS flashed: gapps-jb-20130812-signed

DLed CM10.1 + GAPPS from the page mentioned above
and installed it via CWM as usual, then did the 3 wipe just out of habit
however, after installing this rom
at the start-up pages where it ask you to set up google account
i typed in my old one, after few minutes loading
it come up with a msg saying unable to establish connection or something
then i checked the explorer, google wouldn't load for what ever reason
but i can load yahoo.com, and few other pages in the bookmark
i can also access update files from the update page in setting > about tablet > C.MOD update
i did a bit of digging, most post reckon it the GAPPS issue
but i have installed the recommended GAPPS.zip
so i am scratching my head here

Ok this might sound retarded but I just installed a new rom (temasek's KANG)on my phone after some of you guys suggested it to me.
Anyways, it worked fine, but the ROM doesn't include Google play or Gmail app? wtf? Why would that not be included? I can't do anything without google play I can't install any of my apps...
I tried installed the APK files for google play and when I start it it says :
"You must add an account to the device to continue. Do you want to add one now ?" When I click Yes, the app just closes back to home screen....
The gmail app crashes in a similar way
I've on this for hours.. you can't imagine how much I've been messing with my phone for stuff to work properly and there is always something retarded like this not working... :|
edit:
also I can't seem to be able to delete apps, why is this?
You need to flash a separate addon called gapps which includes essential google files and the market (play store). Gmail is downloadable from market.
Download gapps from here and flash from recovery.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?115vksf8fc32ve6
I also installed the latest Temasek's build but I'm having a problem with battery drain. Back when I used stock based roms and horsepower kernel my phone would lose about 7% battery while it was idle during the night. Now I got to bed and when I wake up my phone has lost 20-30% of its battery. I know this isn't the right forum but since I can't post in dev section and Temasek has replied to this thread maybe I could get a little help?
Help, please!
I'm new here and the first ROM I've tried installing was RC1 91 but after I finished the procedure, my phone doesn´t leave LG home screen and rebooting. What did I do wrong?
Steps:
- Root;
- Download the ROM;
- Copy in external memory;
- Power off the phone;
- Boot in recovery;
- Backup current ROM;
- Wipe cache partition and wipe data/factory reset;
- Wipe dalvik cache
- Finally, flash ROM and reboot.
And the restore isn´t work too.
Amazon Stock OS for Kindle Fire HD 8.9 - Version 8.4.3
BEFORE YOU BEGIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A 2ND-BOOTLOADER INSTALLED CORRECTLY AND CAN SEE THE BLUE LOGO DURING BOOTUP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128175
This flash .zip file contains the Amazon OS 8.4.3 update + root/Superuser.apk and should have OTAs disabled. You can use this to revert back to the Amazon OS should you need to for any reason.
NOTE FOR LTE USERS: This does *NOT* contain the wankit update for LTE modem firmware.

INSTALLATION (TO REVERT TO AMAZON OS):
Place flash .zip file onto your SD card
Reboot into recovery
Wipe system
Use "INSTALL" and find the .zip file (NOTE: CM10.1 may create a "0" directory under /data/media so you may need to navigation up to /data/media and back down to find .zip)
Make sure to WIPE CACHE if you're currently on stock (and do a full FACTORY RESET for wiping data/cache if you're on CM10.1 going to this).
Reboot
Go back through the stock Amazon setup process
Works flawlessly thank you Hashcode!!
Works great - but not without a 'heart attack moment' first time around.
I pushed the kfhd8-amazon...zip to the /sdcard/download folder from a Windows box. It was put into /sdcard/0/download.
Once in TWRP, I naviguessed to the /download folder to install the old software - and the folder was blank (apparently TWRP defaulted to the /sdcard/download folder). Ok...Hashcode warned us about the duplicate folders in JellyBean, so I backed out of 'install' and used to file manager to find the kfhd8-ama...zip in the /sdcard/0/download folder. It was an easy click to select it to copy, then navigate to the 'other' download folder, then press paste. FAILED I tried again and that copy failed as well.
Navigating back to the 'install' menu refreshed the screen and the update software zip was magically there. Maybe the failed copy didn't really fail? Maybe the initial read of the /download folder failed and needed to be refreshed? Dunno.
But the flash worked perfectly. And it's apparently resilient enough to catch newb errors - I was so happy that the software appeared that I forgot to wipe the system again after installation. Pressing reboot to the system resulted in an attempted boot and a return to TWRP where I could give the system a good wipe. The next boot was normal.
Whew.
Does TWRP backup of CM10 work as other normal phones or we also need to take care of the "stack" file? because I saw these lines in the update-script. Will a backup/restore of CM10 overwrite this?
---------
run_program("/sbin/sh", "-c", "rm -f /tmp/stack; for i in $(seq 1024) ; do echo -ne '\\x00\\x50\\x7c\\x80' >>/tmp/stack ; done");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/tmp/stack", "of=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/system", "bs=6519488", "seek=1", "conv=notrunc");
---------
thanks, will try this later...

I just flashed back to this until the CM built has working sound. I'm not sure if this is already known, but if you flash a ICS based gapps package on top of this you have all the gapps =D

Seriously? And everything works? I already have everything installed but if this is true that would make going back and forth between cm and Amazon really easy

So I bought a demo unit Kindle Fire HD 8.9 (you know, the ones in the store with just a demo OS installed) and I should have it by next week. When I root it I can install this ROM and everything works (sound, camera, HDMI etc.) just like a full one bought in the store?
OP updated for a new 8.3.0 stock ROM .zip file to flash in TWRP.
It includes the new kernel + stock ROM, but NOT the wankit update for LTE users.

Just install? Or wipe cache and dalvik? Thanks for doing all this work.. Very much appreciated
If you are on stock, then you can just install this over the top of 8.1.4. If you've been playtesting CM10.1 you will need to wipe data/cache.

Running stock rooted so I simply installed this update over top..no cache or dalvik wipe. After reboot the play store kept force closing.went back into recovery and wiped cache and dalvik. Play store no longer force closing.maybe just isolated to me but I would wipe caches

Good point. Adding wipe cache to the OP.
Wow, this is great, with 8.3.0!!
But I never succeeded downloading the file as everytime it stopped at 30%-70%. Anyone can help?
Finally I managed to download it through a proxy.
I am new to rooting and tablets. I cannot understand how to load "flash in TWRP". I try running adb commands in CMD but it says it is a unrecognized command. Can someone make this idiot proof? I am doing something wrong and I don't want to brick my kindle hd 8.9
Turned on my Wi-Fi
Samsung account asked to make update, and install push service
Play store forced to make updates
Facebook app section expired
Then the phone starts to be super slow, then the screen's touch stopped responding and everything was going crazy and lagging and not working.
I was successfully able to stop the PLAY Store updates and turned off my Wi-Fi
then I removed the battery only to force restart
The phone was stuck at the message of ( SAMSUNG Galaxy Note N7000 ) and nothing, after several seconds the processor area is super HOT
Sometimes I was able to see the BootAnimation with the whole music played.
I can successfully enter the download mode and Recovery mode
A message in red is written in Recovery mode:
E:Error in /data/log/recovery_kernel_log.txt (read-only file system)
I am currently using PhliZ
I don't want any format of any type please, the device contains important information especially the SNote app
any way I can recover my phone back, and if possible without formatting ?
By the way I downloaded Odin, rooted the phone with the right matching version, updated to official German jellybean, then downloaded the UAE version to support Arabic language and the system just went updating and all the information was not erased, then the whole things I mentioned above happened.
One of the apps that was always crashing (Root Toolbox PRO), caused the system to hang for several seconds then a message appear saying it stopped responding

I got that error message too E:Error in /data/log/recovery_kernel_log.txt this morning while trying to reflash JB but it was something odd i was trying and i think i got it due to that, as you can enter recovery you will have to format data in order to fix this or format everything to reflash firmware but before you do that, go to philz recovery and then to mounts/Storage go to last option mount USB (while it is connected to the computer ofcourse) you should see both the internal and external card on computer after that with all your data. Back it up on computer. Unmount once you are done and then do all the wipes and reflash JB.
Cheers!!!
Mounting failed
I am currently working on PhilZ-cwm6-JPLSB-UAE-4.93.6-signed
then I coped recovery CWM-6.0.1.2-n7000.zip to the external sd card
I booted in recovery mode, and installed update
then I followed your instructions but no mobiles where detected by the windows 7, a unknown Samsung android is detected in control panel > printers & devices
every time I restart the phone it returns back to PhilZ
Is there is a windows drivers problem ?

Hello,
I tried to update my galaxy s via the integrated update screen on cyanogen mod to todays nightly rom update but during the android install animation it got about a third through and then went into quick recovery screen data which i couldnt read and then rebooted but to my existing version...in other words it didnt install properly.
Can anyone guide me through how to get this to update properly?
Thanks

A few nightlies ago there was a bug in the integrated CM-updater...
Have you tested it with download the zip-file ,put it on your device and flash it via CWM-Recovery ??? That`s my favorite way ...

It should work ,but i know with some of CM10.2-nightlies there was a bug and pawitp (the dev) makes a warning not to use the inbuilt updater ...but i think with the last nightlies it should work ...my way is flashing over CWM with the zip-file and not "over the air" ...
Is there any error?

Thanks for your help.
I managed to flash via CWM and now everything is great - and it sorted out my earlier problems which included lack of mobile internet, constant rebooting when turning on and problems with receiving sms texts.
For all those people having similar problem - here are the easy steps to get the new nightly 10.2 rom up and running on your Galaxy S:
1) Download the latest zip file for nightly ROM and latest GAPPS zipp file onto your computer.
2) Connect your mobile to computer and turn on the storage function so that you can see your phone's storage option on my computer.
3) Copy your 2 zip files from above to your phone's storage as zip files without extracting.
4) unplug your phone from the PC, turn off and then go into CWM via volume down/home and power buttons.
5) Select install zip from SD Card and then you should see error message something like 'partition is incorrect/different and you need to wipe data - don't worry about this as you will keep all your apps, ringtones, pictures etc.
6) Install zip from SD card a second time - this should now start the install process. Install the GAPPS file once this is done.
7) Reboot and you should be faced with a Cyanogenmod registration page. Go through the completion process and then your ready to go.
8) check in about phone in your settings to see the latest update in your settings.
I hope this works for you all but as always...this is what worked for me on my Galaxy S and any mod is at your own risk and I wont accept any abuse.
