This is a KitKat thing, not something by Sony. It helps a lot with Google Now, but with the tradeback of worse battery life.

Must be something like 10-20 minutes, lol.
Regarding "always scanning", I dont think it's something that uses alot of battery. Probably even more battery friendly than other "location" services. Just because it labels WiFi as always on, doesnt mean it uses as much battery as actually being connected to a network. Personally, I don't care for all this location nonsense so it's obviously off. Regarding the location-based wifi, it's only smart if you don't know how to toggle WiFi when leaving your house, etc.

No probs Bloodsucker !... Screen on 13% of 34 hours = 4.5 hours..This is my everyday day phone.I would consider myself to be a light-medium user , I dont play games used for voice calls ( 5-10 calls), text messages, used as a time piece (checked every 1/2 hour or so), 2 weather apps constantly updating as I move around a lot, GPS always on , bluetooth always on, maybe 1-3 youtube vids a day..screen turns of after 1 mins inactivity...
Running existenz 1.5.5 dark edition on a locked bootloader.. using Next launcher 3D and a live wallpaper...
hope that helps ..

The phone maxes around 5-6, MAYBE 7 (I've never come near that though), hours of screen on time in total.
The 13% means that 13% of the battery used going from 100% to 72% was from the screen.
Tap "screen" in the list of battery usage and it will tell you how long it has been on.
This one's mine... ca. 70% brightness:

Nexus 7 right?
I would say, post the SCREEN ON TIME, as well as the STAND BY TIME ... Both are important.
Also, some bits of info how did you use the device and general settings (auto-brightness, GPS on/off, WiFi? 3G?) ...
Otherwise, it won't matter ... I can have 6-7 hours screen on time on my GNex for doing nothing ...
Push this thread! We need the answers with screenshots from the ones who already got a final device! This is much better then all the reviews.

Isn't wifi supposed to turn off when the phone is on standby? It looks like it's constantly connected from that chart.
Yeah something wrong there.. that's about 1/3 of what my GNex does, and common wisdom is the battery life on that is poor.

Yeah the Wi-Fi bar on my Nexus 4 is solid across the entire history graph as well. Now I don't remember what that's supposed to look like. I leave wifi turned on all the time, even if i'm not connected to a network. Is that why? Or does it normally only show when you're actually connected to a network?
I'm currently at 6h 5m, 68%, 50m screen on time.

You choose what you want to happen with WiFi, go into settings > WiFi > hit the three dot menu and then advanced, from there you can choose the sleep setting for WiFi, by default it is set to always on.

Having WiFi turn off when the screen is off is worst for the battery. The phone will just switch to 3G when it needs data.
Sorry op but this will not get anyone anywhere.
You need to set up rules. Screen on time can be determined by MANY, MANY factors
First of all it would be good to make a screenshot of the battery inventory. For instance
Out of 100% how much % was dedicated to the browser or what else other program
I would really reocmmend downloading gsam battery stats and making a screenshot within the app. It lists a lot of things,
I bet you this phone can do 8 hours of screen on time if not longer, how? Just leave the screen open the whole time and do nothing. So while one might get 8 hours and the other 2 - we will never know under what circumstances thus this thread being useless.
Right now we only have a screenshot of the phone's screen on time ONLY. Useless. I've experienced that telephone calls drain more battery than the screen itself or uses up to at least as much.
really? i barely used the phone. everyone is turned off except wifi and i did not even use the the browser. this can't be real. only that much time and it's almost halfway dead and i barely used it. i know there have been battery threads before but man... how can it be this horrible. btw juice defender don't do crap, i've had it for the today and yesterday, was crap so i uninstalled. had brightness are low as i can without making me squint.

I've had relatively poor battery life as well... I went 12 hours with a recharge from 10 to 50% again before it completely drained...
I'm not impressed with the battery on this phone but everything else has been great.
... I'm starting to think I'll have to make my own Qi Charger for pant pockets... embed it in your pocket so whenever the phone is there it's charging. I'm seriously considering trying this to see if it's possible... if so, i'm doing it for sure. Or a carrying case with an extra battery and a Qi Charger... or a Qi charger dock for the car... you get the idea. Wireless charging shouldn't be the fix for poor battery life, but it definitely could help it.

Task managers mess around with Android's memory management and it is fairly well known that they usually end up draining more battery than they save. Try getting rid of it.
Also other people are reporting that the battery life gets better after a few days of using. Is yours really new? Im not sure how true that is btw.
Probably a combination of that task killer and a wake lock.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Install Franco's kernel. Battery life has been outstanding (1 Gmail account sync, 1 Exchange account sync, maybe 30 minutes of calls and 100+ texts a day; I have location services & Google Now enabled as well). I average 3+ hours screen on time and I normally end the day around 30% ...
I would stay away from task managers ... it's not that I know what's going on more than you or anyone else, but well established and respected kernel developers recommend against it. If these guys don't know then I honestly don't know who else does ...

Yep...20-30 minutes won't tell the tale. I'd also recommend Brightness Toggle widget...allows a few extra steps (16 total, IIRC) of brightness control over stock, to fine tune screen brightness, often another culprit.

I know it's not going to help you a lot, but for comparison's sake, with a screen time of 4 hours, sync on, wifi on, location reporting on, stamina mode on, after 39 hours, I got down to 18% battery level. But, there is a catch, I am still on 4.3, not KitKat. If you want, I can also post some screens, but this is pretty much it.
So, by the looks of it, your KitKat is a bit of a battery hog, at least for now.

Hi,
After I uninstalled Battery Guru it had a better life, also, I saw that you played some Nintendo DS emulator there, heavy emulators like this one consumes lots of battery, that's one of the motives for this "low battery life". Also, I don't think 18 hours with 4 hours SOT is that bad.
I'll see further later to see if there's anything I can do to help better .

Hey guys,
Take a look at what is happening to my battery while on Wifi below. This keep-awake only happens when on WiFi. I tested it yesterday by being on LTE all day and got 20+hours with 40% battery left. Today it will be drained in half that. Having WiFi on seems to keep the phone awake and it drains steadily in the background. I have keep wifi on during sleep off so I'm not sure what is up.

Apps will usually sync more often if they see that you are on WiFi.
is there to make the phone NOT scan for new networks once you have connected to a wifi network?

Tried turning off Wifi based location services?
Under Settings --> location.
Since you have Wifi location services off when Wifi is off, could explain the difference in wake locks.
Location services feed into a lot of other services, like Google Now, which ramps up the more data it gets.
I am having the same problem, more consumption with wifi on than mobile data, did you find a way to fix this?

What service provider do you have ?
Are you using a dark theme? Darker colors are easier on the battery to produce on an AMOLED screen.
What are you doing during screen-on time? If you are doing resource intensive activities like using Navigation, that will absolutely kill battery. Someone having 5+ hours of screen-on time, may be doing something passive with their screens on. It's really difficult to go apples to apples in these cases.
User sewe used 1659 mAh on screen during his 7h+ run. How much is your stating is due to screen in mAh?
same here, exynos, running in performance mode, wifi & mobile data on, 6.45 on battery and 4.40 screen on time, 56% left on battery, I do turn screen brightness down a bit as I don't need it full whack when in doors
The only other factor is gonna be wakelocks , or Signal strength.

So, it sounds like you have the Exynos version. I have been hearing some stuff about shorter battery times on different variants. I think they might be Exynos related.
Are most of you using WQHD? I had an S8 Plus and then got the Note 8 and I can say from using both phones the Note 8 doesn't have as good battery life. I run my screen on WQHD and I get through most of the day. Battery life is average in my view, but battery life isn't a big issue since the Note 8 has fast wireless charging and fast wired charging and I have a portable battery so I always have something to charge the phone. I mean worse battery life was expected compared to the S8 Plus, bigger display and all with a smaller battery...
