Sounds like the symptoms of my phone...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469183
Mine has been returned for service... I too used ROCKET ROM-V20-XXLA4.
But i doubt that had anything to do with it.
I think this happened to 4-5 cases who are on Rocket ROM, have anybody noticed it?

Can you borrow a battery from someone you know and also owns a Note?
Try that battery. Then you can find out if it is a battery issue.
I believe the internal memory may be the issue. This problem has been reported with rooted and non rooted phones. I have not heard of anyone reporting this issue with the snap dragon version of this phone. As wonderful as the exynos is I think that it is the culprit for these failures. I have read that the problem persists even after a stock firmware reflash. Another thing I have noticed is that there is no way to reformat the internal memory with odin. When you select the option the odin flash will not start when attempting to revert back to stock firmware. Wiping the cache and formating internal memory from the stock recovery has also not helped. So far no one has been able to successfully restore the phone to working condition without sending it back to Samsung.
facing same problem
Hi
Did you manage to get your note fixed? If yes, how?
Please could you help me with some pointer, I am facing the same problem.

Try to borrow a full battery from fried oder neighbar. Put in your Note try to switch or bring your Note in recovery Modus. Try it wenn you are in it, cleare cache.
Pretty much why I only use roms that are damn near stock.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. = CheckRom.
Did you shut down the phone or did it run out of battery?
I posted in another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26743522&postcount=24)
but I think my phone died because I had shut it down via the 15 toggle bar. It has the wanamlite rom title and when I shut it down, it doesn't even turn on anymore.
Update:
Somehow got the phone to boot using a usb external battery and now it appears to be working properly...No need for service for now.
Update #2
Dumb enough to try and replicate the problem, my note is not starting up anymore. After shutting the phone down and removing the battery (as the original reason was to access the SD card), the phone is no longer booting up anymore.
Update #3
Ok, it appears that the phone has problems when the battery is removed. My external usb charger battery seems to act like a jump start. I've noticed that the battery capacity % jumps up and down...first it was 17% then it was 91% now it's at 48%. So maybe it isn't booting up because it thinks it's 0% but when there's a bit of a charge, it starts to work. However, it didn't seem to work with the computer USB probably because it wasn't charging fast enough? The phone seems to be working for now...I hope I can reset the count before anymore problems persist.

Actually that's the problem. Only ROMS and kernels based on stock versions are dangerous. And stock ones are dangerous too.
Until now I would only recommend using ROMs and kernels based on CM9.

Galaxy Note GT N7000 not opening
My Galaxy Note is not opening to the main screen, the only thing that you see is SAMSUNG flashing like Christmas tree lights. I have rooted with franco kernel, CWM, ect. I haven't had it that long; I have taken everything out of it and restarted it and I have also replaced it with a new battery because initially it was getting very hot, now just the top part underneath the camera lens gets warm. I have also tried to download in odin mode and the screen just shows Andy and nothing happens for hours. I have also backed up and restored, rebooted the system itself. I thought I have done everything I could and my issues were slightly different than others on this forum. Any help would be appreciately greatly! Thanks
What Rom were you on?
If you have Cwm, you could wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot.
If that does not work, boot into recovery and take a backup using the backup & restore menu.
Then do a wipe data/factory reset and reboot
Hi,
I've a G-Note running ICS-4.0.3 , i recently noticed my phone is getting really hot and resetting automatically at times, on closer investigation i see 'CPU spy' data showing my phone running constantly at 1400Mhz mode!!! wanting to find which process is doing this, i downloaded watchdog lite and noticed that 'System UI' process is running at 49% approx CONSTANTLY, killing it re-spwans the process!! any idea whats causing this?? Please Help!!
Not rooted, never flashed, on original upgrade, have nova launcher, use it rarely. no other launchers installed.
Restart fixes this sometimes, sometimes not.
Thanks in advance,
Ramgo.

Not that i can think of as a problem, been happening for a while now, could be any of the app! i have like 200 installed!!
Now its not system UI, its android syste, badass battery monitor shows kenel to have taken most of the battery (which seems mostly loop task, is this bad) and then android core process.

well try to remember from which app on this issue showed up.I had battery drain problem turned out it was because of an app that I had installed. So I unistalled it and my problem went away.Yours should be easy to spot try unistalling the recent apps or the ones you're suspicious of and see when you get deepsleep.
Check your battery status and see for the battery eater apps

I infact got deep sleep the whole day, 15 hrs just 10 percent drained! this problem has been occuring intermittently, deep sleep is still happenning, but when the phone is screen ON, its in the highest mode.
Hmm things got complicated.Like I said if everything used to be normal then all of a sudden this problem began then it should be an app I suppose?!Just like my case.
Install OS Monitor and see what's hogging your cpu maybe you can pinpoint the application if that's the case.
did anybody have a problem with Gsam battery monitor after it was upgraded from Badass battery monitor??? i was looking at it and was showing 100% battery drain due to application ( 0% for screen and phone radio)!! i have uninstalled it and seems fine i guess! atleast for now! charging now and its in the expected 200Mhz state.

Yes will do that!! Thanks! read my comment below, i think GSam Battery monitor submits some task or makes some query to the kernel which makes it to go in a loop, hence the android system seems to be using more CPU and not battery monitor itself
The problem is back!! HELP!!
I checked OS monitor, nothing seem to be hogging, occasionally android system, overhearting near the camera and resetting automatically, please HELP!!!

Hello,
I'm having a similar problem. When my Note is in standby sometimes it overheats without any apparent reason and battery drains very fast.
I haven't been able to trace the origin of this problem. I'm running on ICS 4.0.3 stock and no ROOT.

Have you installed any kind of launcher on your phone? If you have, do try to uninstall it for now. Install BetterBatteryStats, turn off any data connection.. 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth.. Remove any Live wallpapers(just use a static one), Uninstall any apps that connect or syncs online.
The last thing I could advice you is turn off Airplane Mode (at night), charge up your phone to 100% and just leave it for a day. Check back on BetterBatteryStats after on what apps/wakelocks is triggering the overheating.

Lot's of work... I'll have to find some time to try all of that.
Thanks.
Early last week my Note started to reboot whitout any apparent reason. It happened 2 to 3 times a day. Specially in the morning when battery was still above 60%.
The overheating also happened from time to time but not everyday.
Saturday I figured I had to do something extreme to end this.
First I downgraded to a pre-rooted GB rom. Afterwards wiped the GB rom. Then upgraded to stock ICS. Everything worked out fine and was very easy to perform, thanks to all the guides available on XDA.
Last of all I rooted the ICS.
Until now the Note hasn't overheated or rebooted again.
I really thought it would be harder to do all this. But now I think it would take me about 20 min to do all these procedures.
Thanks to all the people that posted the guides on XDA.

I'll take that as a joke.
Three days in and still no unwanted reboots or overheating.
Gents if you have nothing constructive to provide in assisting the users with real help, please refrain from off topic mindless humor. Thank you.
A week after I've re-flashed ICS on my Note, the unwanted reboots have come back.
It must be some app I've installed again or maybe something much worse. I've read lots of threads and was wondering if a custom kernel and a different ROM might solve this problem.
One thing I've noted, the reboots never happen at night only during the day (mid-morning and mid-afternoon).
Any new ideas to help me find the source of this problem?
EDIT:
I'm running on LPY Kernel, so wipe is not an option...
Search didnt help, and cant post on development section yet.
So my problem is with pretty much all ICS roms ive tried, but currently i am running CM9 RC3.
So my phone randomly crashes, when im listening to music with apollo and dspmanager running. sometimes it just crashes in my pocket, sometimes it crashes when some one calls me while im scrolling songs etc, sometimes it just crashes without doing anything, but the weird thing is that everytime my phone crashes, theres a 50/50 chance to boot it, sometimes it boots but battery can jump from 80% to like 14% etc..
sometimes it can jump from 80% to 0% (?) and when that happens my PIN code doesnt register and the phone will just crash in seconds.
But usually i have to take battery out, wait a sec then it usually boots but battery always drops to 4-20% and starts charging on its own..
Before installing i have done full wipe, fixed permissions, calibrated battery, used CWM 5.5.0.4, tried ODIN (no luck with that either).
I flashed Broodrom (GB) And it crashed also with same problem..
Ive tried BioHazard rom, same problem, but when i flash stock ROM, no crashes..
Pls halp
E: Forgot to add, sometimes when it crashes its stuck on bootloop until i take battery out, after that it MIGHT boot, not always. But it never crashes when on charger..
So im guessing im alone with this problem
What do you mean crash??
Does it restart or apps just ForceClose??
If it restarts, does It begin from the beginning of the boot cycle or just the boot animation??
I have the exact same problem with my i9001 since 3 weeks now. It started when flashing broodrom and now happens with any ROM (I have tried a few, cleared cache, format system, etc....). Even the battery behaviour is exactly the same as you describe..
To answer the question: the phone restarts from the Samsung boot screen. IF anybody has any clue, it would be great to hear... It's a very annoying issue I can tell you!
Thanks in advance!

Thats something you should take note: your battery is most likely dying.
I had the same exact issue: Started with the stock ROM, flashed Paranoid but it continued. Took it to service (with a stock ROM), came back re flashed and wiped. The same thing continued, no matter what ROM I was using so i figured it had to be a hardware problem.
I noticed that my battery had swollen a bit, like 1-2 mm so that I could see it easily: the battery should be flat, mine was not. Borrowed a battery from a friends I9001 and got no crashes after 15 minutes of heavy use: problem solved!
Bought a new battery and haven't had a problem since.
The battery has only 6 months warranty and my phone was a year old, I kept the old one as really crappy spare battery.
Sorry guise, forgot to post here!
I bough a Polarcell 1800mAh battery and no more crashes, my old battery had swelled, if yours is also its pretty easy to notice, i just put my credit card on top of the battery to check it.
So yeah, you have this problem, new battery, thats all.

Hi. Thanks for the quick replies!
I have actually just tried to exchange batteries with a friend having the same phone --> his phone crashed, mine did not anymore. I then saw by carefully looking at the battery that it had indeed maybe a 1mm swell in the middle. Just ordered a replacement one. I am confident this will fix the issue.
Again, thanks for your reaction.. Nice to see the responsiveness of this forum!
Cheers,
G.

If its the exact same problem, you need to change battery and test or try connect to charger and test
i have same problem mostly with app using gps.
today i have installed the new app game from google called ingress and it makes my phone always.
i found a new battery and i will try if something will change.
lately my crashes happens very more often i am using a gigabread+ rom and cwm recovery, but was quite the same when i was in stock .
(sorry for my english)
I got same problem with my phone, first phone gets frozen/stuck and then reboot itself from bootscreen. This was totaly random issue. After trying several roms, and kernels, underclocking cpu, I found that problem is in external sdcard. I think this is battery related issue. After unmounting and removing external sdcard, reboots gone, and battery lasts at least 20% longer. Im not using my phone like external storage, so I dont miss external sdcard, I got quite enough space on internal.
Problem fixed!

Heys Guys Im having an issue with my Captivate, its was working fine for the past week. It started giving me problems like battery temps too high, cant charge, had to charge it manually, removing battery & charging it all night. All this happened when im with stock rom latest with leaked 2.3.5
& i did unlock this with changing the 01 digit to 00 in efs file.
From the past 2 days im trying to install CM10,9, 10.1..... after installation it shuts down itself. Not able to use it.
Is there any way around to make this work. If pics are needed i can provide that too.
Thanks

When/how does it happen?
What are the changes/mods you made?
Did you restore anything?
Did you try different kernel settings?
Did you try flashing a different kernel (like Semaphore?) or flashing a different ROM?
I could be asking more questions but really, I dunno what causes it, I can only guess. Also a search in the CM10.1 thread might give you an answer to your SoD <-- Should've been your first step*

Battery temp to high is a big problem. Did you overcloak? Have you running bunch of stuff at the same time?
When it shuts down, does it reboot by itself or you have to do it manually?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Sounds like Battery health status does not equal healthy. That forces an immediate shutdown, whether due to temperature or excessive internal resistance. That's because once a Li ion battery reaches critical temperature, it combusts and destroys your phone, burns you and anything around it, etc.
GET ANOTHER BATTERY ASAP.
Stop trying to circumvent high temperature shut down.

Recently i bought a new battery, original samsung make, it states the same thing "charging paused for battery durability" sometimes "Charging stopped battery temps high". No overclocking here, just used to call, receive & wifi hotspot. Currently i charge battery in a battery charger & use it in phone.
U pointed out something right, sometimes screen just goes blank, i have to manually switch it on.

I think it's not CM related but hardware related. Does this happen when not using the wifi hotspot too?
I'm thinking your battery is bad (even if new), charger is bad, connection is bad (maybe from water/humidity) or that your usb port is bad. No easy way of finding it other than testing.

May be yes, the phone some times just goes blank, i have to manually switch ON. The same battery works well in my frnds phone quite well.
Port dont know, i can copy files no errors even now when i plug it in on stock gingerbread the battery doesnt charge but can copy files as before.
Since the batt works well in other phone, a couple of ideas. Perhaps silly to ask, but just checking:
did you wipe battery stats in cwm after flashing?
did you clean the phone's battery terminals with a bit of alcohol?
what's the battery health, temperature and voltage history look like, if you can get it. you can log it with battery monitor widget or similar app. set to short 1 minute interval for testing.
.........
A month or so back I started facing weird problems with my year old Galaxy Note, n7000:
1. After reboot, the battery would go down by 15-20% and then without charging the battery %age would gradually increase by 5-10%
2. lots of flickering on screen followed by auto shutdown whenever the battery %age went below 15-20% after normal usage
3. Very poor battery backup (I blamed most of this to the Rom Mods I had been installing at that time- only partially correct!)
I am sure that many of you might have been facing such problems and running from forum to forum to get a solution- I did.
Solution:
Get your battery replaced- most of us have had our Note for a year and some months now...life of the battery is approx 1 year for regular use, thus, the stock battery that we got with our Note is well past....
I never faced the above problems after battery replacement!
Hope this helps others like me!!
I started having this problem after getting a new battery, my old battery which was weak never showed flickering. But this new one which is original samsungs battery at below 15% show flickering and sudden discharge despite a good battery time.

I got rid of the damn problem after getting new ones...Is it possible that the batteries you bought are not genuine/fake?
Which ROM are you on- the Stock one or some mod-rom?
When I was searching for a solution to my battery issues some members suggested battery-calibration and full charge-full discharge cycle to get rid of the problem. Both the solutions suggested at that time did not work for me.
There was also a solution about cleaning the mini-USB connector which gets seriously dirty collecting grime from our pant pockets! That did work for me initially when the battery was good.
Please let me know if any of the above helps you.

Guys - Me too have the same issue, but this started immediate after updating the Jelly Bean 4.1.2. It never happened while on official ICS.
I could observe the battery is very much thick now, which is a symptom of over charging. The screen flickers and brings phone down abnormally.
After connecting the charger for a 5 seconds, suddenly the battery level shoots to original state from where it went down. Most frustrating, it happens very frequently.
I am not sure if the same will persist even after replacing with a new battery. Or I would need to go back to ICS again.
Any suggestions?
Cheers!
If the battery is bloated then it's better to get a new one.
Erm... is this thread still up?
I just wanted to know if the bloated battery would cause boot issues, stuck on the model screen?
I would guess the problem is with the bloated battery's voltage is insufficient to power up the systems... i guess
I need confirmations... thank you in advance

That never happened to me with a bad battery. What version of Android are you running?
i changed my battery just a two weeks before and the battery backup has decreased very much
can someone help me how to check whether my battery is in good shape or not ?
What do you mean with "battery backup"? Maybe "capacity"?
What battery did you buy?

4.1.2 xxlsz deodexed by eybee
The problem is, after I restored most of my data, apps and system data separately, the screen flickers a little bit and then the restore process completed without any problem. After that I restart the phone, stuck at the model screen only for unknown reason. The data is also from previous xxlsz which I had trouble with some system app crashed but fixed by returning to another backup though.
So, currently I'm leaving the phone without any data restored, only stock fresh out of the box xxlsz with titanium backup only installed. So far the phone is quite stable, I've turned off the adaptive power adjustment in display as well as lowest brightness just in cast it might occur again.
I've been reflashing xxlsz a lot this morning, over 3-5 times due to stuck in boot logo and model screen. Even though flashed the latest philz 4.90.8, it would just revert back to the old philz 4.8x with cwm 6.0.2.8
One last thing, my batter bloated pretty bad about half of it has been expanded. I mean from the bottom part (no copper connections), half of it has reached out of the body.
Well,
hppend to me b4, flickering issue below 10%. It was bloated. Bought new one. Bloated again after 6months. Again, bought a new one and it can last only 7 hrs without switch on data.
This is what we get from massive production company.

By battery backup I mean the time my battery survives after a full charge is like only 2hrs with minimal use :/

Maybe you bought a "bad" battery...
Ok, successfully restored to another checkpoint, now trying to extract a stock build.prop from stock xxlsz, eybee's build.prop I believe been making my phone goes hot and consumes more power than normal (I guess)
damn issue as well

Guys - Me too have the same issue, but this started immediate after updating the Jelly Bean 4.1.2. It never happened while on official ICS.
I could observe the battery is very much thick now, which is a symptom of over charging. The screen flickers and brings phone down abnormally.
After connecting the charger for a 5 seconds, suddenly the battery level shoots to original state from where it went down. Most frustrating, it happens very frequently.
I am not sure if the same will persist even after replacing with a new battery. Or I would need to go back to ICS again.
Any suggestions?
Cheers!

I seem to have the same issue
1. Battery drains rather bad
2. Screen flickering
3. Auto shutdowm
Used the battery in my wifes n7000 , however no issues at all
Only seem to happen on my phone.
I flashed it to stock std 4.1.2 , however problem still persist. auto shutdown few times a day
Gets worse when i use an external SD
@amogh you can check your battery voltages and battery temperature and compare that to optimum values. you can also use apps like AnTuTu battery tester.

Flashing another rom again wont solve much of the problem, if you happens to have the phone stuck in around bootloop and able to go into cwm, brace yourself, this process can get very repetitive to solve because a mere battery able to do such a problem. I had these experience before about 2 months ago before buying a new battery. Hope this link helps you understand a bit more of the battery

Thanks mate will go thru it and see if the battery is the cause. Point to note was it did not happen when i was using ICS. It started immediately with the JB update
