Doubt it hasn't happened already. Quite a few members of CyanogenMod are there, including Cyanogen himself. They're probably waiting to make an official release

I'm looking forward to hearing Cyanogen's analysis of the Nexus 7. Specifically how the internal flash storage is set up and how such for future ROM installation.

Hello everyone!
My name is Anastasia, I am 19 years old, from London.
Yesterday, I bought myself (thanks to my payday) a brand new Asus Google Nexus 7, 32gb, from Argos (shop).
I keep reading what you get with root, and it made me WANT to root it.
Here's my information:
Nexus 7
JOP40D
4.2.1
So, the tablet is brand new, and I HAVEN'T touched it, except when I downloaded few Apps. So, all I want, is to ROOT it in the safest and easiest way. I am scared that it brakes? Anyways, what is the FIRST step? I need it rooted and ready to rock. (Themes, Hide bar, etc.). What, Should, I, Do? Thanks a lot to everyone! I hope I can make it? Take care xoxo
Welcome to the NEXUS 7 BANDWAGON.
Did you want to root and stay stock ROM???

Don't worry. The Nexus 7 is almost unbrickable (can't break it by messing with the software).
You should definatly root it, and when you get the knowladge of what you are doing get a custom recovery, and flash a new ROM, maybe a theme. Trust me you just got a device running android. It's never ending fun. :highfive:
Here you go. http://xda-university.com/.
That site will help you learn what you are doing.
U can try wugfresh toolkit. That's what i used and has the instructions with it. You will need to have adb set up. there video on YouTube showing steps to set it up with the nexus 7As for roms i have smoothrom installed u can change your theme with theme manager. U can download the themes from playmarket or on the xdA website.
Welcome the the nexus 7 community

Woah! Is that a brick? Nope. You can still go to the recovery partition and reflash a different kernel. Or you can boot to the bootloader and use fastboot to flash a new kernel. If you were bricked you would never be able to use your device again.

You're doing it wrong.
I've had 3 nexus devices and two galaxy S devices and I have NEVER had that happen. Ever.
Secondly that isn't a brick, that, at most, is a mild inconvenience.

Never use a toolkit, its just as easy to do with adb and fastboot, and you have minimal chance of breaking anything or having issues.

Facts, details and specificity would be more useful.

I never encountered any problem with TWRP. Flashed many roms, kernels; I made many backups and restored them. You obviously did something wrong. But what? Can you still get in bootloader mode? What version did you flash? How did you flash it? So little information...
Um.... TWRP works great. The only way you could brick is if you tried to flash it onto the bootloader partition.

I think you'll find the problem is between the chair and the keyboard.
it's a good thing you made this thread OP, the only one of it's kind warning us against twrp 2.5. all of us who don't have problem with 2.5 are clearly living in the matrix where our imaginations are taking over.

I'm inclined to agree... it's running out of control, going nowhere and has no practical value...
I'm also uncomfortable with the general direction this thread is going in...

I myself have never had any issues with TWRP, and personal issues with a recovery is no means to start a thread on the matter, however if you are having issues and would like help perhaps post in the Q&A section about your issue (providing as much information on whats happened and what you did as possible)
Thank you

in case anyone needs, here is little flashable zip I made that will revert you from ART to Dalvik from recovery (in case of trouble), at least it should.. tested on mine and it works (i tested on cm, but it should be universal).

Hi,
Because some people want use Xposed stuff (not compatible with ART runtime for now, even if it goes back automatically to Dalvik runtime if you choose ART) and there is still other apps/games not compatible with ART runtime...
And in case of bootloop due to an incompatibility with ART, this flashable zip can be useful.
depends, as I said some of the cm nightlies broke ART so phones would be stuck @ bootloop. yeah, I use ART also, but if your phone doesn't want to boot because of some incompatible change in ROM it is good to have safety net.

Not a valid reason for it to not work. Art works fine in stock rom. Hence, should also work fine on any ROM imo.

Indeed, I've always had that zip in my phone since the first time CM broke Art.
One question:- if I switch to ART..I've heard that the the sdcard space gets less. So when I switch to dalvik will I be able to get that occupied space back? Or I have to factory reset?

no need to factory reset. and that less space on sdcard is almost unnoticeable (well depends on how many apps you have)..
