From the 2nd post in the Cloudy G3 thread.
Why KnockCode works only with screen on? I still need to double tap to wake up the screen
- Only D802/5/6 and F320S/L/K have it fully working. Other variants must wait for LG new kernel source.
LG hasn't released the updated source for all of the G2 models yet.

You might have to go back to stock and reroot. Which sounds horrible, but I just did it and the process is actually fairly simple. I used the tot method. In general there's a great guide...

Guess I have to redo everything ugh I honestly hate doing that.. thanks dude I figured I had to do that lol ugh verizon I HATE YOUU

You dont need to go through all of that, What you need to do is turn off the knockcode feature. This is the feature that you use a knock code to unlock your phone. Once you do this, your knock on should work again!

You should be able to root 24A with ioroot or towelroot.

Knock Code = Knock On.. sorta
I faced this issue the other day when I finally tried out Cloudy G3 on my lg g2 d801 and found the following:
I don't have enough posts to post a link but if you google "CLOUDYG3 knock on not working" the first reddit link should take you somewhere that has you go through a hiddenMenu.apk way of enabling it which seems to have worked for most. Not for me though.
My issue was confusing Knock-Code and Knock on. Some folks said that when Knock Code was enabled, Knock on stopped working, I can confirm this is UNTRUE.
What happens is your knock on IS your knock code. So for example, if my knock code was to knock each of of the four boxes you can use in a knock code once (so four knocks), my knock on would now be four knocks in thease four boxes (yes the screen is off so you have to knock in each boxes general vicinity).
I hope that prevents folks from having to do anything drastic in order to fix the non-issue (at least in this particular case).
Knock on \m/

Did you response to the right post? This is from last year regarding rooting a G2.

Is there any way that we can get this feature from the G2 on the Z1? Basically what it does is when your screen is off you knock twice on the screen and it turns on/off.

I believe it requires kernel level changes. Unfortunately due to the camera breaking upon bootloader unlock there hasn't been a whole lot of custom kernel or AOSP ROM development. Once Sony fixes the bootloader issue I would expect more kernels coming out and wouldn't be surprised to see one with this feature.
Can't wait
Edit: the closest I've seen is a mod to allow the camera button to unlock the screen. Is on this forum somewhere, though definitely not as cool as the double screen tap

Good point. There are. I downloaded ProximityScreen Off Lite yesterday and one more I forget the name of but haven't tested it at all yet. Might work, but will drain battery if you use the screen on function because I think it will need to keep a wakelock

NFC Mods?

Is it possible to use NFC with the screen off using stock 4.4.2?? I can't find anything about it.
I would have thought so as it's an antenna based system, it should be active as long as it's turned on, unless it's powered down in a sleep mode whilst screen is off.
To me that would make it more of a hassle using your phone to use it rather than just swipe it past

No. NFC active only when the screen is; Android security "feature".

This is why the word MOD was mentioned. It's obvious it's a security "feature" by default.
He's asking about a MOD to make this happen. Like the NFC LockScreenOff Enabler Xposed Module that works on great on most AOSP ROMs. Including the Moto X. It just doesn't work on stock. I would also love to know how to make this mod for Stock Moto X 4.4.2.
I wonder if this is the reason why the Moto Skip doesn't work as well when the Moto X screen is off, the sensitivity seems much weaker when the screen is off compared to on.

Two things are going on with a Skip when the screen is off. First, a magnet in the skip wakes the device. Then the NFC element in it can be read.

This is because the NFC doesn't poll when the screen is off. Which is why they make mods like NFC LockScreenOff Enabler
Unfortunately it doesn't work on Stock 4.4.2 ROMs.
So I am looking for someone who has modded the smali code to poll NFC with the screen off with the NFC.apk

You couldn't be more wrong dude. Stock is any STOCK Motorola ROM. Modded or not it's still a STOCK ROM. If it's AOSP or anything other than Motorola's manufactured ROM. It's NOT STOCK. Please troll elsewhere.

Personally, I think you're wrong. Stock implies unmodified. Now, if they were stock and rooted, that would be a different story.
In any case, OP, unless you o it yourself, you probably will not get a way to use NFC with the screen off, especially if you have a non-DE phone.

How moto skip work when when screen is off?
It is just a magnet + nfc tag making it power on when near...
Is it posible to use magnet with other task beside unlocking phone with screen off?

I'm due for an upgrade on the jump plan and have been for several months. I really like the oneplus 1 and the g3 but I can't seem to give up a phone that has a damn near unbreakable screen and draws so much attention to its sexy curves to go to a phone that I'm sure to break the first drop it has. But I've made up my mind and I'm going to eventually go to the nexus 6 (with a two foot leash attached to my wrist so it can't make it to the ground)

haha yep. or you could just go with a ballistic case. when i was doing mechanic work with my g2 wrapped in one my phone would fall from 10-15 feet high,i would constantly roll over it with my body, it would fly outta my hands and the phone was still perfect. im debating to spend another 700 on a phone right after im paying 700 for my flex. its still in the air, but, i want a nexus 6 very badly.
yeah since the final set of code is released today and ppl can start building i wonder who is gonna come out with a working rom first on the flex . pluse i havent been able to root my flex since its update to kitkat sucks but waiting on something that will work fully on it

I have a issue then when I connect my phone to my computer it stays on PC software it won't let me change it to mtp or anything else im sure I have the proper drivers installed and I even factory flashed the phone back to stock
Install the software and it may let you change then. Also before connecting go to settings/PC connection/select USB connection method and select the method you want then back up one page to settings/PC connection and uncheck "ask upon connection" so it doesn't give you a prompt asking what to do.

[Requires Root][Open Source] Doubletap to Wake Enabler v1.2

Nexus 6 Doubletap To Wake
Description
Enables the "double tap to wake" feature that the Nexus 6 shipped with.. It requires root, so you must unlock your bootloader and root before using this. I am offering it for free to members of xda-developers; you can find the apk below. If you wish to donate, feel free to download it from the Google Play Store for $0.99 (USD):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.codechron.n6doubletapunlock
If you wish to view the code or build from source to verify that nothing mischievous is going on, you may find the code on Github. Note that the code may be slightly messy; most of my development experience lies elsewhere.
https://github.com/smskelley/Nexus-6-Tap-to-Wake/
Video
@techfanatic9 was kind enough to make a video demonstrating the installation and basic use of this app.
Caveats
Google's built in implementation of double tap to wake isn't perfect. It's likely why it wasn't enabled out of the box. Some users have indicated that if their device has been sleeping for a while, double tap to wake isn't always reliable. It is very unlikely to cause harm to your Nexus 6, but extensive longterm testing has not yet been done. Additionally, this is unlikely to work on anything but the Nexus 6. By downloading now, you are accepting the liability if something were to go wrong. Please let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.
Changelog
Version 1.2 - Mostly bugfixes.
Enhanced error checking.
If a non rooted device opens this application, it should no longer crash.
Small formatting changes.
Version 1.1 - Persist through reboot.
Settings now persist through reboot.
Changed name from "Doubletap to Unlock" to "Doubletap to Wake".
Updated Icon. Doesn't look amazing, but it's better than it was.
Updated some text.
Version 1.0 - Initial Version
Implemented the ability to turn on or off Double Tap to Wake
Dope! Testing right meow

You, sir or miss, are an amazing person. Coming from having the g2 and then the g3 I'm pretty accustomed to the knock on/off. Thank you for getting this out there on the swift tip.
Thanks, I am coming from the G3 and I still double tap my nexus at times since I'm so used to it. This works perfectly, I wonder why google took the feature out?
Just tested and works. This feature is essential since the phone lacks infrared sensors like the X. Nice work!
naxir said:

I have created an app for the Nexus 6 which enables the "double tap to unlock" feature. It requires root, so you must unlock your bootloader and root before using this.
I have only tested it on my device. I wouldn't expect it to work on anything but the Nexus 6. It is very unlikely to cause harm to other devices, but know that by downloading it right now, you are accepting the liability if something were to go wrong. Please let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.

I dunno, but there is a commit in aosp that specifically disabled double tap to wake in HAL, for shamu.
Possibly to avoid pocket double tap? Or random double taps on accident.
If you reboot your phone, it breaks. You have to re-enable it again. Just letting you know.
it would be cool if you could double tap and wake the screen in ambient display mode
It doesn't take the proximity sensor into effect, so if your pocket double taps your phone, it will wake up. Next to my buddies OnePlus. If you cover the proximity sensor it won't double tap to wake.
This will wake no matter what. Just an FYI.
Works great for me. Thank you very much @naxir now the Nexus behaves like my G3

Notification LED

Hello, how do I get the Notification led on my Nexus device to work without rooting ?
Clarify please. Are you trying to enable the notification LED, or something else? If the Notification LED, you can't enable it without root.
LED backlight? Some televisions and other devices have LED backlights in their LCD displays, but Nexus 6 uses an AMOLED display, which actually uses millions of individual LEDs to produce the pixels. It HAS NO backlight.
My bad. It's the notification LED

no root, its not going to happen. you can only enable it with root.
I heard rooting affects speed of getting updates on the phone, that's why I don't want to root it.

rooting affects updates, but not the speed at which you get them. you can not apply an ota when you have root. but you can update manually whenever you please.
I will stick to the ambient mode in that case, the notification LED would have been a nice compliment though. Manual stuff is only exciting for a short while .Gets tiring in the long run

@sims22,
Actually this works without root. I've been using it on my N6 for several months now. But don't think for a moment that you'll be able to install an OTA after flashing this. This file does modify the system.
