bootlooping - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hi. Having a dickens of a time. My phone,(rooted and unlocked, S-ON, HBOOT 1.56.0000) ws getting a bit sluggish. With past phones fixing permissions sometimes goosed things along. Well, I went into recovery (through volume down and power, as my TWRP Manager has never worked, just force closes), fixed permissions and rebooted. Now I boot up fine, but the phone reboots after 30 seconds or so. So I went into fastboot to flash a more recent TWRP or Philz. Won't do it. Always gives me the message that it "cannot load" the .img. I know ADB works and that Fastboot works, as I'm able to use fastboot command to reboot into bootloader, shut down, reboot, etc. Any ideas?

are you using the correct recovery file specific to your phone, sounds like you are using the wrong recovery, if its a sprint phone the file should be for m7wls.img
the latest official twrp is 2.7.1.1

Yep, m7wls. Tried 2.7.1.0 and 2.7.1.1.

I had a bootlooping problem when I was on stock rooted ROM. I installed other ROMs that worked just fine but the stock rooted always had Mr looping after about 30 seconds.

[Q] Can't boot to recovery...

Hi guys, hoping one you can help.
I recently had my unlocked/rooted HTC One replaced after it completely died on me. Almost the exact same thing as what happen to this guy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2295374
Anyway, I went to unlock/install custom recovery on my new One. Done the unlock process fine, I've always used ClockWorkMod but I decided I'd flash TWRP to try. Files were sent/written ok and everythig seemed fine. But when I try to boot into recovery it shows the "Entering Recovery" screen (with the red warning text at the bottom) for a split second, then it just reboots the phone... So I tried Flashing CWM instead, again process went as normal but still can't boot to recovery. Even flashed the stock recovery and still the same. Tried flashing CWM through Rom Manager, just gives me "An error occurred while flashing your recovery".
It's a 3uk phone and their is no RUU for it yet that I've seen, so I thought if I can get S-Off I can change CID and use a generic European RUU. This when I realised it's not rooted and as I can't get to recovery I can't root it that way. Tried using the "Perm Root" option in the All-In-One kit but that just throws errors back.
Also the TAMPERED doesn't show above UNLOCKED for me in bootloader.
Any ideas? I stumped
Thanks.
Anyone?

Yeah I had done that, before and after flashing.
Funny thing is this morning after a full charge (wasn't like it was flat last night, had at least 50%) it worked fine, fired up the bootloader and the TAMPERED had appeared and now it loads the recovery perfect... :/ Just rooted it and now I'm off to S-Off and super CID.
Very strange but it's working now so I'm not complaining.
Thanks anyway guys.
Hi I have the Developer edition 64Gb and I have this problem too...
Aparently the TWRP flash went well (I tried both ways, AIl in one kit and fastbbot ways) but I cannot get into recovery.
I erased cache and reflashed again but nope.
Since this phone comes unlocked I assumed that I can just skip those steps of unlocking it (am I correct there?) and went straight into flashing recovery but it does not seem to have worked.
Anybody has a different suggestion?
Thanks,
EDIT:
Never mind, I just waited few hours and tried again and it works

[Q] Soft/Hard Bricked, Lost Root, Lost Recovery, USB Not Recognized

Hi all, this is a last ditched effort at maybe saving my phone. I did an update on my SU and for some unknown reason it rebooted my phone. It then loaded up my rom until the kernel settings loaded then rebooted once again. I then tried to go into recovery to flash a backup and it booted me straight into my unlocked fastboot. I then tried to reboot once again in hopes I could fast navigate into twrp through rom manager, once in I was prompted that I no longer had root. I then decided to start over from scratch and load a recovery in fastboot. Once I had everything good to go I plugged everything in and instead of recognizing my phone as a drive, HTC manager popped up instead. I then updated my drivers to see if maybe that would fix the problem with no luck. I am at a loss at this point. I would greatly appreciate any help you guys can offer.

This is completely normal, you should have just rebooted the phone and been done I then tried to go into recovery to flash a backup and it booted me straight into my unlocked fastboot. Again totally normal, thats the bootloader use the vol to move down and choose recovery and hit power this will boot you to TWRP I then tried to reboot once again in hopes I could fast navigate into twrp through rom manager, once in I was prompted that I no longer had root. I then decided to start over from scratch and load a recovery in fastboot. Why ? You should not have Sync installed only the drivers I then updated my drivers to see if maybe that would fix the problem with no luck. I am at a loss at this point. I was doing a SU update. It restarted into a loop that boots about 1 min after the splash screen then resets. I've tried to redownload root through SU app as I can no longer connect through usb but it reboots to soon. I used Rom Manager to try and get into recovery as a second alternative.

http://download.chainfire.eu/372/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip
flash in recovery
use adb push UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip /data/media/0
to get the file on the phone
Reboot to bootloader / fastboot USB
and from command line on pc
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
I cant understand why people using those ROm manager apps to install stuff. And you said it rebooted after you update your SU. Then i tink you pressed reboot into recovery instead of NORMAL. Am i wrong?

I no longer have a recovery to be able to flash anything. When I try to load into recovery it just boots right back into fastboot. I was just using rom manager to boot into recovery after I couldn't get into recovery through fastboot, not to flash anything. I was updating Super Su through the actual app itself. it seemed to be downloading something when it rebooted itself and I lost root, recovery and the ability to connect to my computer.

My bootloader is unlocked and i'm running Viperrom. I've never gone through the process of s-off but for some reason it says it at the top of my fastboot screen...not sure if that's normal or not.

Ok. I think you need to reflash recovery again.
Boot into bootloader and fastboot usb
then download TWRP recovery from here http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7 and pick 2.6.3.3-m7.img
put it into your fastboot folder and flash it "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img and hit enter
now try to reboot into recovery. When there Wipe Dalvik and Cache and reboot. If recovery ask you to root your device then accept it and reboot.
Remember to connect phone to right USB port not 3.0. Use 2.0 port and try annother cable also.

I've tried a few different cords and all 3 ports I have still nothing but the HTC manager thing. It will recognize it but only for a split second while booting up but it says HTC BUTTERFLY as the drive and i'm not sure if that's a problem or not but it won't recognize it at all through fastboot.
you cant boot up. if it doesnt recognize it in bootloader mode then i dont know.
Try restart PC. Maybe you have several adb at same time. Adn uninstall htc sync if not but keep drivers

Ok will try that now. thanks so much for the help.
I hadthe same problem after flashing a kernel. I repeatedly tried the bootloader (audiodown key + power button) until it started. Recovery was not available, in the red triangle screen press audio up key,got the system recovery screen, wipe cache, reboot the system and then try installing Twrp recovery. It worked.

I'm not familiar with the red triangle screen is there a way to boot into it?
Grizmen what are you talking about. Why should you boot into red triangle? There is no menu called red triangle. Only on stock recovery.

I think @jpaulpra was telling him to reflash stock recovery
then boot to it and do clear cache.. then reflash twrp
When I got into bootloader, I lost the Twrp recovery. So when I selected recovery I got the screen with a "triangle and exclamation mark". If you leave it will reboot the system after couple of minutes. But if the audio up key is pressed, it will show a system recovery screen, where cache can be wiped

Basically all I'm trying to do now it's find a way to get my computer to recognize my phone as a drive. When I go into viper settings and go to advance menu (with the short time I have before boot loop) there is an option to mount drive. When I select the option to do so it hands on splash screen and I have to hold power button to recycle back on. Once back in it's no longer selected. I've never seen a boot loop go pay the flash screen. Is this normal?
Pretty SOL with my son's Nabi2
I'm having a issue with my sons Nabi2 pretty similar. I messed up bigtime guys I rooted it and started messing aroung with the system files. Then didn't get a boot afterwards, wiped everything from twrps system, data, the whole shabang! Even lost my root! and access to on board flash cause I've been trying to recover using twrp with absolutley no luck. I still have the original stock unrooted backup saved to my pc from when I first installed twrp. Can someone please help me? I'm really out here trying to reach out for some help. didn't even know where to post this. Thank you guys. Note to moderators: If this is the wrong place to post this then please point me to the right direction and I apologize.

Moto X Verizon Dev Edition TWRP, boot loop

I have Moto X Verizon Dev eition on 4.4. unlocked bootloader, Installed TWRP few weeks back with SuperSU for root. Worked perfect.
4.4.2 upgrade messages kept coming up, but I just ignored them by hitting back button.
This morning, while I was typing something and I was about to hit send, that message popped up and instead of hitting send, i hit INSTALL NOW. no warning, no confirmation, it said "power off" and started process of updating.
But the problem is that I still have twrp and is rooted, so everytime it reboots it goes to Team Win Recovery page and if I reboot from there, it goes back to normal boot up but then reboots automatically in 15 secs and goes on in an infinite loop.
I cannot start/stop anything when it boots up normally because I have literally 15 secs before it reboots automatically.
Any idea? On teamwin reocovery page, should I goto wipe>> factory reset? and then upgrade and so the whole TWRP and SuperSu again?
and of course, i am to stupid to have no backups made

Awesome. gorked like a charm.
just a note for someone else trying this.... first time i booted up after doing a "fastboot clear cache", i got a warning saying failed to load info. I clicked okay and I would get no service. Rebooted normally again, and everything worked fine.
Thanks again fro the response.

Nope. I rolled back. seems like I will have to roll back the root and then install 4.2.2 and then root again or something. Too much mess to go to 4.2.2. There are no specific and detailed directions for vzw dev edition rooted phone that I could find, so would leave it alone for now.

If you're stock rooted, you just need to flash the stock recovery (available from the moto dev site) and make sure you don't have any missing or modified system files. You can then just take the OTA like normal, then reflash TWRP after.

There are a lot of threads discussing this.
If you have a Dev Edition X with an unlocked bootloader, as long as you have stock recovery on the phone, and are close enough to stock, you can just take the 4.4.2 OTA and re-root using the same TWRP and SuperSU process. (more details -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-OTA.html which is based on many threads here on XDA)
Downgrading to 4.2.2, etc.. while rooting was for locked bootloaders only.

I'm fairly positive this will fix my problem since I'm experiencing the exact same thing as the OP.
However, I'm still new to bootloaders and rooting, etc...
Can someone breakdown what jayboyyyy is saying here? I can get into my TWRP bootloader. How do I run "fastboot erase cache"? Do I use the built in terminal command? Do I need to plug into my computer? Do I need to point my cmd to the TWRP I originally downloaded and installed on my phone?
I really do not want to mess this up. Like I said, I'm sure this is the fix for my phone. Thanks in advance!
TWRP is recovery, not bootloader / fastboot
You will need to plug into your computer, you should probably read more before you break things worse tho.

TWRP is a RECOVERY, not bootloader.
Do you remember how you flashed TWRP on your phone? You booted the phone into Fastboot/Bootloader mode. Connected the phone to PC via USB cable, then from command prompt on the PC used the Fastboot or mFastboot command... Same thing. However in this case the command to clear your phone's cache is... mfastboot erase cache
The other option is, you can see if there is an "erase cache" menu option while in TWRP as that would work too.
Then to take an OTA, you need to flash stock recovery back on your phone. If you try to accept an OTA while TWRP or other custom recovery is on your phone, you will get stuck in a boot loop like this.

[Not Rooted] HTC one boot loop. currently in cwm recovery, but nothing working

Hello, so...where to start. Phone was original stock. It randomly froze and started boot looping. I had installed the Sprint update 6.23.651. 6 about a month prior to this. (the update made it sluggish)
So I did research, I went to Hboot, but recovery and factory reset didnt do anything. After selecting either one, it just started looping immediately. So tried fastboot commands, nothing work really except erase cache. ADB did not show anywhere even though my drivers were up to date. Contaced HTC and dowloaded the update application. Put the phone on fastboot, ran the wizard. when it was all done, it said it was finish updating. But was still looping. HTC told me i had to send it in and pay a fee. BS! i did nothing to my phone, they broke it with the updates.
Long story short, i figure how to unlock it. Great, so i started trying to flash updates that had the same CID and Model. To list last few:
1) Guru_Reset_M7_Sprint_1.31.651.2
2)Guru_Reset_M7_Sprint_3.04.651.2
3)RUU_M7_WLS_JB_50_Sprint_1.29.651.7
But none of them worked. Just gave me some error that i cant recal. tried other comands that further bricked my phone, like (fastboot flash boot boot_signed.img) (fastboot flash recovery recover.img). I have been working on this for 3 days, today is the 4th. After this, it would loop once and turn off. So i tried multiple recovery images out of the zips listed above. Those made it so that it finally say entering recovery, but then it would loop and turn off.
Then i kept reading that people are being told to relock the hboot (fastboot oem relock) and then flash the zip. Tried it with those 3 listed above again. the 12 signature error showed up of course.
Tried running the update 6.23....from spring, the wizard gave me some error, basically, my phone is way off to even set back to where it was at first.
After some research, I tried tried cwm 6.0.4.8-m7 to have a standard known recovery image flashed. I had actually tried it before but it didnt work. and for whatever reason, it lunched clockworkrecovery.
Here i erased data/factory reset. Also wiped the calvik data (something like that) since that what it says everywhere to do for first step. (kept a mental note that wouldn't fix my phone since it was further bricked than before i began). But before exiting the recovery mode, i noticed that adb commands were finally working! so i tried the two methods if found to install a rom. Sideload and push. Through side load, it takes forever to reach 100% but once it gets there it says
* failed to write data 'protocol fault (no status)' * {in cmd}
So i tried to push. after pushing it to the sdcard (internal btw) i got to the sdcard and run it. End result. *(bad) installation aborted * {on the phone}
so then im like whatever, lets reboot and see if anything changes. Bootlooping still. Recovery and factory/reset send me to bootloader now (it used to just loopboot). so i flash recovery again. Doesnt work. fastboot erase cache, then flash image, still not working. So i managed to remember some steps i followed that might of been the reason recovery worked. so I flash boot_signed.img, then flash recovery. doesnt work. so fastboot boot boot.img cmd responds but phone freezes, then manually turn it off. then get back into fastboot, flash recovery, erase cache, flash recovery(x3 times). and recovery works.
This is the 3rd time i got into recovery, but it takes me about 10 mins of doing the different combinations of the what i just mentioned before it goes through.
So im at the point where i could possibly get it fixed. But nothing seems to work
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. I know that the rom has to match my hboot version? but im at hboot 1.6 and the only thing i found was here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795856
but that only gives me the firmware and the exe that doesnt work for me. I also tried to run the exe and during it, seach my C-drive for rom.zip. Apparently it creates a temporary rom. I pulled it out, it doesnt contain everything
Last thing i was going to do, was put relock it and run recovery. but because im not sure how to make recovery work every time from the get-go. when relocked, recovery didnt work, so i had to flash, thus i had to unlock, spent 10 minutes making it work and forgot that it was unlocked. I could try and see if i could relock and get recovery to run. But it could take forever to get it to work, thus is why im looking to see if there is anything i can do from recovery. (also, both time i was in recovery, i did erase wipe everything, so maybe thats why it wont work after reboot and have to reflash it)
This is where im on.
clockwork recovery window in phone.
phone stuff:
hboot-1.6 something
s-on
os 6.23.651...etc
cid SPCS_001
modelid: PN0720000
the guru zip mention above have the same cid and modelid as my phone according to
http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/ruu-file-downloads/
Thank You, I hope i am as close to fixing it as i think i am.

Make sure you have latest HTC drivers installed on your computer, relock your bootloader and then launch the 6.23.651.6 RUU
Wow, I dont know why I didnt think of that. Everything must be running together.
Alright, so it updated. My phone is back to how it used to be looping like when it first broke. So, from here. Should I unlock it, flash the recovery to cwm, relock bootloader and see if it enters cwm recovery and try to push or sideload a rom?
when relock, i beleive it restarts, so i dont know if it that would stop the cwm recovery from working. Also, if i manage to get all of what i mentioned working. Wouldnt I get the 12 signature error?
Im sorry, its been days and nothing seems clear anymore since I havent been able to fix it

Nokia 8 hangs on boot

Hey there so, I've recently been trying to root my new Nokia 8. I have successfully unlocked the bootloader via downgrade to Android 8.1, and running HMD's app. I then have updated to 9 via OTA, and flashed TWRP to boot_b (the current active slot). Next i flashed Magisk 18.1 from the official thread here on XDA, using TWRP. Upon reboot, the phone now hangs and does not respond to any input. My only option is to let it go flat. Attempting to charge it afterwards, results in the red battery plug in icon, which does come up if i press any buttons. After it charges enough, it attempts to boot (kind of?) on its own, and just freezes, and i'm back to square one. This is a brand new phone so this would suck so bad if i can't fix it..
Thanks for any help guys

Which version of twrp did you flash ? Where did you get it from?
Flash the stock recovery of your pie version using the right file from here http://bit.ly/nokia-nb1 and then do a factory reset or sideload the pie rom.
Once that is done use the same link to flash the corresponding patched twrp boot img, boot into recovery and then flash magisk from inside twrp

I got the TWRP version from the folder from that link actually.
I've managed to get the phone to boot somehow. The phone would expose fastboot for a few seconds after having just enough battery from getting a bit of charge after letting it go flat, before freezing when presumably trying to load the OS. So i managed to send 'fastboot reboot recovery' to it after letting it go flat once again, and successfully entered TWRP, and factory reset. Now my phone boots into Android, TWRP still flashed, and bootloader unlocked, but no root. What would the safest option to install magisk? Wouldn't want to brick the phone again...

you can install it using Magisk Manager apk, or flash the Magisk zip file inside TWRP, your choice. I dont think either of the two menthods are risky

I currently have a similar problem. successfully installed twrp and booted into recovery to see if it works. It did. so now i got the magisk install zip and wanted to install it via twrp, but after executing adb reboot recovery my phone now is stuck on the bootloader unlocked warning screen. The phone doesnt react to any input and doesnt connect to adb or fastboot. currently waiting for the battery to die and try with a fresh reboot after that...

For me, i found that fastboot was being exposed for a few seconds when it would start to turn back on after the battery dying out. I was able to send 'fastboot reboot recovery' and it didn't boot into recovery, but it booted into Android... A bit strange.
