This issue has occurred for me as well as for my sister whose Nook I'm trying to get back to stock. It says "Installing update...E:Error in /data/media/NookHD-factory-2.1.1-plainstock.zip (status 6) Installation aborted) This was a new download I just got from Lepinlar. Same thing happens when I tried flashing back to MY 2.2.1 stock before the KitKat OS worked finally. Her Nook runs CWM10 and mine ran CWM11 and I used an 8gig SD card that had previously worked for me before. Thanks guys!!
What version of CWM are you using? You said you had been using CM11 so you are probably using too new of a version. You need a version older than v6045 to flash the plain stock zips. You can get the older versions at my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature.

Hi all. I was trying to find a guide to return my AT&T Nexus One to fully stock. Right now I have Clockwork Mod Recovery and CM7 installed. I would like to return it back to stock recovery and stock froyo then update to gingerbread. Can someone help me or is there a guide posted somewhere to do this. I am still a newb at this so I would appreciate some clear instruction if possible. Thanks!

Thanks. Should I use fastboot method or PASSIMG? How do I know if I have AMOLED or SLCD screen?

Will this also restore the stock recovery?
Everything.
I am planning to do the same as the OP but what I would like to know is it possible to keep Clockwork Recovery while running stock Gingerbread and if so is there any advantage to this?

You would have to at least
Root the stock gingerbread for it to be any use at all.

Alright I am really lost.
It seems there are several paths to restoring my N1 from CM7 RC1 to hopefully stock Gingerbread
Fastboot Method
PASSIMG Method
And because I have ClockworkMod Recovery using the backup and restore feature?
I wouldn't mind the last one as it seems fairly simple (I have a copy of the backup on my desktop, just need to figure out where it goes, path etc...) and should restore everything to how it was pre CM7 RC1.
I am worried that because apparently the newer version of CWM Recovery doesn't work with Froyo (2.2.2 which is was I would be restoring to, then factory reset, upgrade to Gingerbread). Also the HBOOTs are different between Froyo and Gingerbread correct? Would CWM Recovery restore the older HBOOT?
Or can I simply use the PASSIMG method with a Gingerbread Stock ROM?
Thanks in advance for putting up with my n00b questions
I've installed CM 10.1 and CWM on my HD+. Can I flash TWRP over (replacing) CWM? Or do I need to start over again?

If you meant on emmc, you can flash over it. But be warned, backup and restore does not work on emmc TWRP.

Seriously?
Does going in the other direction work the same? Clockwork flashed over TWRP?

Thanks. It doesn't seem like there's any reason to flash TWRP, then.

Can you flash a recovery within a recovery?
Ex: I have CWM (v. 6.0.2.8) currently and if I flash the TWRP zip file, will it simply overwrite the CWM when it reboots? Is that all there is to it?

Worked like a charm too. Thanks!
Just curious,
Is there a newer version of clockworkmod available for the HD+ (>6.0.3.6)? In my searches I haven't found one.
Also, is there any specific reason we are not clockworkmod official but are cm official? Not complaining or nagging just curious.

Let me try to explain. ROM Manager is a third party app by Koushik Dutta, the original author of ClockworkMod recovery. CM used to support and include a copy of ROM Manager in their CM ROMs. Now they don't.
Now CM includes a version of CWM recovery that is "CWM based" when you manually build a ROM from their repository. But they do not publish it separately. If you want one, you must build it yourself. That is what verygreen does when he updates his CWM or TWRP. CM keeps the repository up to date with the latest version of CWM. So the last time verygreen built one it was v6.0.3.6.
Koush Dutta still publishes his own CWM and ties it to his ROM Manager for many devices. Whether he builds one for the HD/HD+ is his decision.

Got it. Kinda figured it was in koushs' hands.

My Nook HD will only boot to CWM recovery.
A bit of history...
Was happily running CWM 10.2 but decided to upgrade to CWM 11. I couldn't get this to work (status 7 installation aborted). I reinstalled 10.2 and this worked fine. I then stupidly followed some instructions for installing CWM 11 when I was tired and didn't spot they were for the Galaxy Tab 2 and since then my Nook HD just boots into CWM recovery.
I'm pretty sure I have killed my device (I gave up trying to fix it a couple of months ago) but before I throw it in the bin I thought someone on here may have some bright ideas for rescuing it.
Thanks in advance for any advice
Try going to my HD/HD+ CWM thread and flash a plain stock zip from item 6.

I tried flashing a plain stock zip from item 6, it didn't change anything.
Thread was on the cyanogenmod forum. I don't appear to be able to post a link so this is the bit I stupidly followed...
Hello!
The "error 7" message was in my case coused by an old version of CWM.
There is already a topic about it under Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 p5110.
This is what you could try to do:
- download the newest version of CWM at this link : **link deleted as forum won't let me post links but it was CWM for a Galaxy Tab2 10.1**
- install this package and reboot
- note : this is not the touch version of CWM so you have to use the power and volume buttons to use this type of CWM
- download the newest CM 11 and put it on your EXTERNAL SD CARD
- download if you use it the newest GAPPS for KK to your EXTERNAL SD CARD
- go into recovery mode
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik cache
- install CM 11
- install the GAPPS if you use it
- reboot
This solved my "error 7" problem and also for some others with this error.
Thanks for looking.
So what did you do? Install the CWM from that thread?

Then you may have bricked it. Did it say it installed correctly?
The problem is the Galaxy Tab 2 uses a different partition for recovery than the Nook HD. Whoever made that zip must have failed to put a safety assert statement in it to prevent users from trying to flash it to the wrong device.
I will try to find the thread to see if the zip was bad and where it tried to install it on your nook. Do you have any more clues for me to the link?

Ok, found the file you flashed and looked at it. It put the recovery image where your bootdata partition is supposed to be and wiped out bootdata. I made a bootdata repair zip and sent you a PM with the link. Try flashing that with your CWM. It may recover your bricked device. Let me know.

hi,
i'm stuck with updating my nook hd+ to kitkat.
i seem to have lost the backup rom (i think i formatted the micro-sd that it was on by mistake).
i do not seem to be able to update to any rom as i get an error saying...
E: Can't open / external_sd/cm-11-20140606-nightly-ovation (1).zip
(bad)
installation aborted
it says this with all the roms i tried.
i did get the same problem with my S3 until i found the fusion rom, which worked ok.
ps i am on recovery v6.0.4.5
thanks in advance.

Try downloading the ROM zip directly to the nook rather than your PC. Sometimes the PC antivirus will corrupt the zip.

You did not say earlier you could only boot to recovery. You need to go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a new CWM bootable SD per item 1a and flash the plain stock ROM per item 6. That will get you back to like it came out of the box and you can start over.

Thanks you're a life saver.
Any idea why it won't take an roms ?
