[Q] Put apps on external sd card - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I would like to install my larger apps (typically games) onto my 64gig sd card. I haven't been able to find anything specific for the S5 AT&T edition (ugh) but have come across a tutorial or two like this one here on XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2276193
After seeing this I have two questions.
1: Can the internal and external (sd card) be swapped like in the tutorial above, and if not...
2: Is there an S5 AT&T method that anyone has found to work?

If you rooted your S5, you can download foldermount from the play store and use that to store most apps on the SD card. YouTube has some decent videos on how to properly do it.

Download an app called a2sd or app2sd by Sam Lu. That should do it But have you really used 2gb already?

I have that app and it won't move all apps to sd. I wanna move all with out rooting.

Um, guys...it's running 2.2, there is no need for a third party app or rooting.
Go to Applications/Manage Applications, pick the app you want to move, click on it, you'll see a big huge tab that says:
Move to SD Card
You should be able to figure the rest out.
It won't move them I have tried. I have a Evo so I'm familiar weith 2.2 froyo.

Which apps won't move. You can only move apps that would be in Data as well as aps that support apps2sd?
Wow, you want APPS2SD on a system with this much space? What on earth are you putting on there that an extra few MB becomes essential to you?

Exactly my first thought.
But still, even rooting isnt giving us a2sd+ atm, so referring to that is pointless. And FroYo a2sd wont give you that much more space. And the apps take longer to load after a reboot.

Sprint and Verizon only have 2GB internal memory.
"Only"
It's more than enough.

oh my. Do/have you owned a HTC phone? 2gb is more than enough. If yoube used it already, then delete apps you dont need and clear your caches.

The amount of available space for application storage is still the same. The additional storage on the 16gb Tabs appears as external memory, exactly like an external SD card. The only difference is that with the 16gb models, you don't have to populate the SD card slot to have external storage.
As far as apps are concerned 2gb is more than sufficient - my HTC Desire had less than 100mb available for apps and that was too small, but we're talking 20 times that here.
FWIW, most storage hungry apps (e.g games) tend to install resources to external memory. For example most Gameloft games are around 20mb on internal memory, with an additional 300mb going external (which woukd be SD card on a Sprint or Verizon Tab).

Dave

[Q] Possible to run google maps from sd?

Is it possible to run google maps from sd? Running out of internal memory, and have moved everything else possible to sd.

Clean out your phone, you have too much stuff. Really you need to unload some stuff.
Root and install Apps2EXT.
Jack, why do you prefer apps2ext over apps2sd (darktremor)? I'm trying to decide which way to go...

You're confused. Apps2Ext is linking the apps directory to an ext partition on the SD card, ie: what darktremor does. Saying Apps2Ext is a way to differentiate between Froyo (Apps2SD) and ext (Apps2Ext).
And why do it? EVERY app safely lives on the SD card, no worries about widgets or stuff that runs all the time or apps which really don't want to move to the SD card.
Probably am confused - wouldn't be the first time...
I though darktremor was one of a few different methods. I move apps to the SD with Froyo, but I still have to keep an eye on internal storage, because only part of the app gets moved...
Trying to find a better way...

I think I recall Google saying that was in development. T-Mobile doesn't really work anywhere and especially near and outside of major city limits. So when you really need a map tmobile doesnt work, having maps available on sd would be incredible. God I hate T-Mobile, I just hate them so damn much. They told me to write down all the places my phone doesn't work so I can tell them. Apparently I can't just be a customer, if I want decent service I have to actually work for T-Mobile for free. Just a useless, God awful carrier.

Maybe have a look at this thread. I've used it before, but never messed with caching the tiles to the SD card, which is apparently supported.

Disappearing apps

Well, one minute apps were there, then the next minute I couldn't find them.
It looks like transferring apps from the system memory to the sdcard is the cause of this. I didn't have this problem when I had Tbolt. Can somebody duplicate this problem?
Also, I managed to crash the system while copying 300+ files from one folder in sdcard to another folder in internal memory . The screen went black and buttons weren't responding. I had pull the battery out to reboot.
Moto worked on this phone for additional 9 months and still has bugs like these? All these are not good at all.
I had similar problems. After installing apps from the market, I could use them, but after reboot some would be gone. One app that was giving me fits was the xda premium app. I think I reinstalled our about 5 times.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was playing the free version of Tetris that EA put on the Market, and I got a call while I was playing.
I picked up the call, finished it, and when I went back to the Home screen I held down the Home button to go to recently used apps and Tetris wasn't there. So I went into my App list and... Tetris wasn't there.
I went into the Market, and it said it was never installed.
Either I hallucinated the half hour before a phone call interrupted my psychotic perceptions of tetriminos, or the phone deleted the app all on its own.
Really strange.
I too had the same problem. Just download again and they stick.

It just happened again. I was transferring some files to the internal memory to sdcard, and the screen didn't wake up. It seems the system is running behind the screen, but I can't see anything on the screen.

I too have seen my XDA app disappear. Based on the layout of the stock launcher now I know other apps are missing, I just haven't figured out what...

Had same issue after reboot. Had to re-install apps. I've haven't tried to reboot again. I did download MyBackup so went ahead and backed up my apps and data. The weird thing is, when my apps disappeared and I had to re-install them, they didn't need my usernames or pws to be re-entered. So it seems the data was still there.
UPDATE: Rebooted and it happened again.
Same issue here, lost about 8 apps after reboot

Happening to me as well, I just moved everything back from the card onto the phone
I was able to fix the apps disappearing by going into manage applications then the media area tab and making sure that no apps were checked. Any that were I moved back to the phone.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but the Bionic, like the D3, is configured differently than other Android phones. The /sdcard partition is actually the internal storage... part of the 16GB the advertise as internal. The removable SDcard is /sdcard-ext. Not sure if that is a contributing factor. I've not seen that problem but I'll keep an eye out for it.
I'm coming from a og droid, so moving apps to the sd card is like second nature to me. I feel i just have to do it even though this phone has so much internal srorage in comparison. Is it possible that the problem is the sd card itself?
I didn't think about that, so when you move them is it going to the sd ext or the internal storage (sd). I did notice the sd and sd ext are different.
The same thing happens on reboot for me as well. I just go into titanium and restore each time which is a pain in the a$$.

Ah, the most beloved suggestion among customer services....
so unlike other android phones currently in the market, MOTO made the real sdcard (sdcard-ex) almost obsolete. It's only dedicated for media storage and sharing.

This is so utterly ridiculous. I had to put all of my apps BACK onto my phone. Why even offer the extra storage if we can't use it to store what we'd like. I don't keep that much media on my phone.
Anyone tried another sd card? I'm thinking about wiping the one from my old phone and putting it in this bionic.

I have a 32gb I pulled from Tbolt, and I formatted it. One thing odd though, Titanium only reports 29gb available instead of 31~32 after the format.

[Q] Install ROM on MicroSD instead of internal phone mem.

As The Title Suggests, Is There Any Way To Install A ROM Onto A 16GB MicrSDHC (class 10) Instead Of The Phones Internal Memory?
I 'Googled" It For Several Hours, Unfortunately Did Not Find An Answer.
Let Me Explain Further As To What I'm Really Trying To Accomplish. I Want To Flash A(ny) ROM Onto The MicroSD Card So I Will Have The Entire Internal Memory Free On My G1. And Then (if at all possible) Somehow Use The Internal Storage As Extended RAM.
Even If This Seems "Close To Impossible", Could Someone With Enough Knowledge (a dev?) Explain How Something Like This "Could" Be Accomplished??
Thanks For Your Time! Can't Wait To Read What People Have To Say About This..
Ideas & Possible Solutions Are Better Than Just Saying 'It Can't Be Done..etc'
I doubt this is even possible. Sorry.

Isn't that supposed to expand virtual memory? Because all i want is to make the sd card part of the internal storage.
