[Q] Moto X AVD - Moto X Q&A

I am trying to create an AVD definition based in the Moto X, but I cannot click the "create device" button, even though it isn't grayed out. Screenshot is attached as I can't embed an image because I don't have 10 posts.
Are there any settings to tweak to get this working? Thanks!

[Q] Enable wifi tether on AT&T Moto X?

The Moto X is the first phone I've ever had where I want to stay on the stock ROM, but that comes with a drawback. Because mine is the AT&T version, they won't let me turn on wifi tethering. I am rooted, and have tried as many tether apps in as many configurations as I could, but still no luck. If anyone could help me out, I would be extremely grateful!
PS: I know that previously on the Moto Razr HD, you could disable the subscription check like this:
In SQLite Editor (or comparable), navigate to:
"Settings Storage : com.motorola.android.providers.settings" (the icon is a red and white hammer and wrench)
then: "settings.db"
then: "settings"
then: _id 79 "entitlement check"
Once there, change "value" field from "1" to "0"
That worked like a charm for me then, but I couldn't find any obvious similar hack in sqlite on the Moto X. Maybe someone out there with more experience knows where to look?

Program NFC Tags

With my Moto X, I cannot seem to program an NFC tag...is there a trick to doing this.
I got a Skip and three tags with my Moto X and have quickly learned that I will not use the function the Skip is designed for.
However, I would like to use the three tags for various things.
I have tried using the app 'Trigger' to create tasks, but every time the app tells me to place my phone over a tag to program it (and I place the phone over one of the tags), it takes me directly to the Motorola Skip app to either setup or add another NFC tag to skip....very frustrating.
You need some other tags or use some other device to reprogram these ones (if they're not read-only).

This is the Q&A section... (Apologies if this wasn't here before and got moved).
To the OP : moto's skip dot NFC stickers are read-only. They've been locked.
You can find lots of different nfc stickers that are read-write enabled all around on the internet. They're pretty cheap.
If you don't want to use the skip, then it and the dots are pretty useless to you.

[Q] Moto Hint w/Nexus 6

The Moto Hint page lists "advanced features" as follows:
http://www.motorola.com/us/accessories-bluetooth-headsets/Moto-Hint/moto-hint-pdp.html
"Pair with your Moto X and ask questions like, “What’s today’s forecast?” or “How do I get home?” and get answers directly in your ear. You can also hear notifications, make calls, and send messages without having to touch or look at your phone.*"
The asterisk on the bottom of the page says: "* Requires Moto Voice, only available on Moto X (2nd Gen.) and Droid Turbo."
Is this pre N6 dated information, or should the Always Listening Capabilities of the N6 allow this functionality with this device?

Moto Voice and always listening are different. Moto Voice is a seaparate API that calls on Google's Google Now Voice Commands so it's safe to say this won't work as described with the Nexus 6.

Donjuanal beat me to it. And don't you think it would be odd for it to be pre-N6 dated information, when the Droid Turbo was only just recently announced, well after the N6 was?

You can still use the Hint with the N6, it just won't have all the Moto Voice features that you get with the Moto X.

Does that mean it will be always listening or no?
I also just bought the Moto hint and paired it with my N6. I sure would love for someone to port over the always listening feature from the Moto X to our Nexus 6. They are both made by Motorola and should work, theoretically anyway.

The "always listening" feature in the Moto X relies on specialized features designed into the hardware; I don't think they incorporated that into the Nexus 6 though.
what do you mean by the always listening feature? google now listens and responds to me, on my nexus 6, with the screen off and not plugged in. isnt that the same thing?
edit.. never mind. i just realized that its an ear piece
The standby time with it on is only like 2-3 hours. I just got it because it was a nice looking device
I wonder if we have an alternative to this device that can use our Ok Google features.
EDIT: we can use this app with any bluetooth headset it seems. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vibaroo.btnow
Any updates on functionality of the hint with N6?

I installed Swipeup Utility, so that swiping up would trigger a voice search instead of launching Google Now on my N6. It turns out that by remapping the action it also alters the behavior of a bluetooth play/pause button long-press -- it now launches the Google Voice Search interface! That's awesome, since I can give commands now just like I used to do when I had an iPhone. I switched to Android several years ago, but I've always missed the ability to control basically everything by voice.
Got the hint today. It works with voice commands. You just touch the side of it while in your ear and talk.
Pretty cool but I want a better fit. Not sure if I want to keep it or not.

Qualcomm EngineerMode

so according to this article: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/11/oneplus-engineering-apk-exposes-backdoor-to-root-access/
"...The important part, though, is a "DiagEnabled" activity with a method called "escalatedUp." If this is set to "true," the app will allow root access over Android Debug Bridge, Android's command-line developer tools."
the article says the APK was also found in Asus and Xiaomi devices... I wonder if maybe it is also on the Moto Z?
I looked, it isn't there.
I was just wondering whether any bright mind who had his hands on those devices managed to save this as apk
I searched around a bit without too much of a success, but I do believe we can try running it on our Motorolas if we happen finding it.
On a separate note: invoking Rlz Debug UI aka 'Google Partner Setup' by entering *#*#759#*#* into dialer (see screenshot) lists one option called "OEM mode" with possibility to set it to true or false - does anyone know what this is meant for? What is OEM mode after all?

Tasker no longer turning wifi on/off?

I've had basically the same profiles/tasks for years now. Suddenly, my wifi isn't turning off/on when it should be. Is there a permission or something that might have gotten changed?
S9 Android v8.0
Tasker v5.6
I've restarted the phone and disabled/enabled Tasker.
Edit: I also put the Profile description text into pastebin and shared it here which exposed data that messed up my IFTTT webhook task... so that sucks. And, apparently, it was all for nothing because I'm not getting any help...
You need to provide more information about the profile. What is the context (trigger) to run the task that contains a WiFi on/off action? It's good to post your profile when it's not working as expected.
Make sure the profile is named - not a default name assigned by tasker. To name the profile if it isn't already, long press on the name to highlight the profile and, at the top, tap the square with the A.
Then long press on the name to highlight the profile. Go to the 3-dot menu and select export -> Description to Clipboard.
Now you'll be able to paste it. Be aware, it easier to use something like pastebin.com / hastebin.com and link to a post here. If you paste in a post here, the forum software will convert semicolons with characters directly after to emoticons making it very hard to read.
How's this?: https://pastebin.com/baWtQSFn
I guess everyone knows my location now... That's why I didn't want to paste that kind of info. Seems like a bad idea for privacy/security....
Edit: And now part of that profile (IFTTT lights) keeps getting triggered... Is it because I posted the info publicly and someone hacked it? WTF is going on?
