[SOLVED] HTC write system protection? - HTC One Mini 2

Edit: Lockscreen.apk and odex deleted with TWRP file manager (mount system before). V4a issue still there, even installing apk through TWRP as flashable zip.
Hi, I was trying to install viper4android on my device. The application is installed successfully, but I can't install drivers. After reboot the app asks me again to install drivers. I also tried to get stock android lockscreen deleting HTC lockscreen.apk. Successfully deleted, but present again after reboot. Should I need s-off to do that? With other models I did this without s-off. Indeed with soft reset, I get the Android stock lockscreen, but with a complete reboot I get the sense one again. Any idea or I just have to wait for a way to s-off?

You need TWRP recovery
Take backup (you'll never know what can happen)
Boot into recovery > mount > pick system
go back to the main menu, advanced > file manager
You'll find HtcLockScreen.apk and HtcLockScreen.odex in system/priv-app
I deleted them and voilà! No more sense 6 Locksreen, stock android.

Are you sure? The rSAP App runs fine after flashing the drivers via TWRP.

Link removed - not official version, sorry

But this is not a official version! This zip overwrite your audio configuration! Be carefully. I repaired it with the files from the "big" M8. Runs better than ever.

There was somewhere in the official thread in the faq a question like "i can't install it anyway? Then try with the flashable zip", it's the same zip that I posted.. Sorry, I'll give you the right link as soon as I find it... but as you solved it anyway, how did you do it?

After I repaired my phone, I never would like to use this app.

And then installed v4a? As normal app?

No, after this repair I was happy that my phone works again. Until there is no official ROM that I can flash or where I can extract the original files, I do not make any change on my phone again!

Confirmed - it's a problem caused by HTC's system write protection. Liberty Kernel solved the issue with viper4android.

But you need a new kernel. With the Android rSAP App you can create a flashable driver ZIP, I think this is the better way to install drivers for an App. They also create a uninstall ZIP.

I couldnt find drivers for v4a, i reflashed stock kernel after installing drivers, the problem was indeed system write, no incompatiblity or stuff like that the app is now installed and finally fully working!

I am happy with the write protection, because you never know, what the "driver installation" changed on your system. In a zip I can take a look about the modification and for example with the rSAP app I KNOW, that I can deinstall all modifications. But I dont know anything about Viper4Android. So I have to look for another DSP manager ...

u have to drop it in your system apps folder and then reboot your phone. Use Root Explore or I think ES file explorer does it to with root enabled

can i just put the apk file on my phone and enable installation of "apps from unknown sources"...then using astro file manager open the app which would allow installation of the file?like described on this site on how to install apk files to my phone without google play:

was hoping not to root my phone until after i get the OTA 4.2.2 update and even then still wait a while cuz i'm quite happy with stock sense 5.0 for now.
if rooting is the only way guess i'll just live without it not really missing it but still would have liked to have it.

No because this is a system app, not a regular app. U must have root. And my question is, why don't u just root? I've been on 4.2.2 for a long time now because I have root. I'm s off now and gonna upgrade my firmware right away as well. Waiting for ota updates takes way to long and u miss out on the goodies
I strongly recommend getting the all-in-one toolkit by hasoon and flashing the venom rom to get the most positive experience outta your phone

[Closed]Root failed - HTC One (Rogers)

Hey guys,
I'm having an issue with rooting my HTC - I followed all of the steps on multiple guides with no luck. Here's the breakdown:
I have successfully unlocked the bootloader
I have tried flashing both the TWRP and the CWM ROMs
I have used the http://androidsu.com/superuser/ site on my phone to get the Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip file
I tried installing said file using both TWRP and CWM, both did not work
When booting into the OS and running Root Checker, it says "Sorry! This device does not have proper root access."
In the youtube video linked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173863 many comments are from users describing the same issue I'm having, though searches on google and on the XDA forums have found nothing that has worked. At this point, I am not sure where to proceed.
Right now I am running Android Version 4.4.2 with HTC Sense version 5.5, and the HTC SDK API level is 5.68. I suspect that my android version is the problem, but before I go delving into how to downgrade, I wanted to check to see if anyone has any advice. Hopefully someone has come across this before, but if not, at least there'll be a searchable record of the problem for other users.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to provide.

After the phone has TWRP/CWM successfully installed, there will be a SuperSU app installed on the phone. Just open that app and follow the procedures. That should successfully root your device. The zip which you've mentioned didn't work on my One either

Thanks for your response,
I just checked my phone, and I don't seem to have SuperSU installed, just the Superuser app that is from the .zip. Should I uninstall the .zip, and will that make the SuperSU app appear?
Edit: So, I just tried clearing the fastboot cache and reflashing CWM, after disabling Superuser to see if it would reinstall its own app, with no luck.
To clarify, there is no procedure that pops up in the Superuser app, so that's why I tried to get the ROM's app to load. I also cannot find a way to just uninstall the .zip, and I'm not about to go deleting files without guidance. Out of curiosity, when the zip didn't work for your One, what steps did you take?

That one didn't work, I suspect it's because I have another copy of Superuser on this phone, but I'm no expert. I'm going to try the SuperSU that mb_guy suggested, maybe a different SU program will help. thanks for sticking with this. XD
this one worked, thanks so much!
it's weird, no matter how many times and ways I searched for SuperSU on google, I wouldn't ever get a link to the actual file. Maybe I just didn't put in the right keywords. Anyways, thanks for your assistance, and thanks to raghav kapur as well.
To anyone else having this problem: mb_guy's file worked for me, however it may not be the same for everybody. If you followed the XDA forum guide I linked in the OP, then chances are this fix will work, but if you followed any other guide, it may be worth it to give raghav kapur's .zip a try to see if that fixes it for you.

[Q] Can't activate Framework, no matter what I try!

Hi All,
After a recent flash of ARHD 71.1 (HTC One M7), I cannot get the Framework to work. I just get the message ""The latest version of Xposed is currently not active. Did you install the framework and reboot?" I've tried:
uninstalling the framework then re-installing by downloading the apk.
disabling all Xposed modules and re-installing the framework
uninstalling the framework and installing an older version
installing the unstable beta version of the framework
disabling/re-enabling permissions in SuperSU
In the 'Framework' tab of the app, the 'app_process' and 'XposedBridge.jar' both show a red line under the 'active' column. The bundled counts are 58 and 54 respectively.
The modes I'm trying to use are:
Advanced Power Menu
Boot Manager
Hide Xposed IME
Network Speed Indicator
Sense 6 Toolbox
Swiftkey Goodness on More Fields
XDual Statusclock
Xposedstatues Text
YouTube AdAway
I've had various Xposed mods working before I updated ARHD, so I have no idea what's going wrong now.
Possibly relevant:
I could never get Sense 6 toolbox to work from within ARHD, even before I started adding other mods:
My first install of Xposed was via Aroma at the same time as I installed ARHD 71.1.
I hope somebody can help me here!
Thanks

Yes, of course it's rooted!
Does Xposed get disabled if I flash a new ROM? Yes, because the file it modifies, /system/bin/app_process, is part of every ROM and will be overwritten when you flash a ROM. However, as long as you don't wipe data, the Xposed Installer app will still be installed, so you can just click on "install/update" again in the Framework section and reboot.

Xposed was installed with the new ROM via Aroma, so this isn't relevant.

Hi Germain,
Yes, I've read them all. But none of the other FAQs are anything to do with getting the Framework functioning.
I've just gone into the Framework tab, hit 'update/install' which has cased a reboot (as designed) and now I've gone into the Logs section, but the only message there is 'Log Is Empty'.
I'm wondering if the fact that I'm running the ARHD version of Sense 6 toolbox is causing problems? I presume this would only work if Xposed is installed (via Aroma at the same time as I flashed the ARHD ROM), but perhaps it's a 'standalone' version of Sense 6 toolbox? Just reading back that last sentence makes no sense to me, but then I'm open to any possibilities at this stage!
One of my mods is APM (Advanced Power Menu), and I've noticed that there is a special Xposed Installer quoted in an APM post specifically for the Sony Xperia. Might there be any special installer for the HTC One that I'm not seeing anywhere?

Change the installation method in the Xposed Installer's settings.
Hi GermainZ,
I had to get back on board my cruise ship before your last post so my apologies for taking so long to reply. In the end, I did a complete re-flash of ARHD 71.1 and rebooted twice (just to make sure) before attempting to activate and xposed mods. This seems to have done the trick. One of the mods doesn't seem to be working at the moment, so I plan to de-activate them all, reboot, then activate them one-by-one, rebooting in between each. I've read that this is sometimes necessary. If I have any further problems I will of course post again but, for now, thank you very much for your time and help.

I got V4A working by using the zip/apk standard download, then installing the apk as usual (making it a User app).
Install the V4A driver.
Make sure your Compatibility Mode is set to Normal.
Reboot.
Install SE Linux Mode Changer app from the Play Store (or edit your build.prop) to switch your SE mode to Permissive. (L's default is Enforcing.)
Open V4A up and tick the Enable box to use V4A on the ”phone speaker” tab.
Play some music! Check to see if it is working by unticking the phone speaker Enable box.
*If* it still doesn't work... Try the following one at a time:
Set Compatibility Mode to Compatible.
Tick the Force Enforce V4A under the phone speaker tab.
Install as a System app instead of a User app.
Try a different music player app. I'm using Shuttle+ and it works perfectly. I've heard some player apps don't work as well as others though.
Hoping this helps you a bit. It seems to be one of those trial & error things to get Viper set up on Lollipop. I even have to do things a tad differently to get it working on my Nexus 4 & 5.
?
Ty worked Great. I didn't Changed to permissive.
Maybe some moderator could move this thread to Q&A?

Hello, thanks for the response. However, v4a kept force closing constantly and continually so I'm not able to navigate within the device. My biggest idiotic move was I didn't make a nandroid....assuming all will be good.

OK all the file flashing is not useful at all if ur running stock. The only reason they exist is for DIFFERENT DEVICES, meaning ur flashing crap that is meant for something else and can have bad consequences. The flushable zips all have scripts that add lib files or script to build.prop. The flushable zips also seem to mess with any app that handles kernel configuration. ie if u like to change clock speeds, nothing would stick on this tablet after I flashed those v4a zips. For v4a to work. FIRSTLY run selinux mode changer. The person that said they got this to work without it is wrong. Dead wrong. The driver will NOT I STILL OR INITIALIZE UNLESS SELINUX IS PERMISSIVE. This must be done to allow android to install the driver to the kernel. Period. Run selinux mode changer, set to permissive, reboot. Check selinux, sometimes u will have to do it 3-4 times for it to stick. Then install the newest v4a from their site I think it's @ 2.3.4.0 the older versions needed the flashable zips for some files the Nexus lollipop update didn't have. They fixed this. Now just install the app normally, then open it and install the driver. Reboot. If u r on cyanogen unlock the developer options and turn off or unchecked "use nuplayer" finally, if u use gone mad music player go to options, audio, tell it to use external dsp.
Profit!
I've never needed to use compatibility mode or anything else. Works like a champ.

Where'd the ZIP go?

I set the Xposed app to install via manual flash because the other two methods kept freezing my phone. But I can't find the zips! Can someone please tell me where they are supposed to be and where they might be if they're not there? My device is a Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE (SM-i757M) on 4.0.4.

When you say "on 4.0.4" do you mean that is your android version? If so, you don't flash Xposed, you have to use the older apk version of Xposed

I have to flash it, the "Classical - Write to /system" and "Auto-flash" modes don't work. I know you have to flash it on Lollipop and above - I've already done that with another phone. but on this one I need to flash it using the apk. I just can't find where the app put the zip for me to flash manually.

Omg m8. I INSTALLED THE APK. The "Classical" install method and the "Recovery (Automatic)" install methods DO NOT WORK. There is also a "Recovery (Manual)" method. The app WRITES A ZIP TO THE INTERNAL STORAGE. Then you FLASH THAT ZIP. I cannot FIND that zip. That's what I asked for help with. As I said, I know you don't normally flash Xposed with a zip unless you're on Lollipop or above. I've been doing this for a long time, dude. I just can't find the zip the app wrote to the internal storage, and the app doesn't have a way to find out. Jeezus.

The Jeezus quick is completely unnecessary and uncalled for when somebody's trying to help you.
What version of the APK did you install and trying to use?

When installing via the apk, does it freeze during the install, or after it reboots?

It freezes during the install, but if you leave it for long enough it complains that it couldn't mount /system as rw even though it has root permissions and other apps can mount it as rw (I used ES File Explorer to delete some sounds and it worked fine.) As for the automatic flash method, it just never reboots. I guess calling the reboot action is just incompatible with my phone and/or ICS. Or maybe Philz Touch doesn't support it? I can't be sure.
