I'm thinking on pre ordering a G3. I think I can use my Jump even on a pre order. Not exactly sure how that works. Would be nice to try it out to make sure I like it.
they'll probably have some in stores in a week or so to try out; might as well wait, even though you do have 14 days to return it..

I thought I saw on G+ pre orders will ship on the 15th. Thinking stores will have it the 16th. Not sure why I want a new phone so much. I'm still happy with the Flex. Just want a new toy. Thinking the G3 won't be that much different though. I would get the LG watch but I don't wear watches. LoL
I really miss flashing custom roms/having a working recovery, so I don't think I will buy another LG phone for myself; my wife and son will probably want G3's, once our first jump is active aug12th
I like the M8, and there are tons of roms for it; I would love to try a Z2s, but obviously that isn't happening at TMO any time soon, and, am curious about the upcoming Note4 as well.
Until then, I will not mess around with my rooted 4.4 Flex, since its working pretty well right now, and not worth messing with, especially without TWRP working with it..
I'm thinking the G3 will have a fair share of developers. I thought I saw the Z2 will be out real soon on T-Mobile. I know it's about time. The Z3 is already in the works. LoL. I guess for me I should wait for the Note 4 or maybe even iPhone 6 for something different. It will be hard not to get the G3 though.
well, since you're on the "old" jump, you could try one out, and jump to something different if you dont like it..
Nothing else I would want if I didn't like it though. At least not in the next month I don't think. With my discount I get 30 days to return.
As much as I dont want another Samsung phone, I'll def be checking out the note 4
I owned the note1 and note 2, and really liked both of those phones; tons of roms/tweaks/options, so there was always something new and sweet to try out.
Like you said, who knows what will be out in the next month or so..

Exact same situation here. Note 1/2 then decided a curved LG would be fun and have tons of development cuz it was such a unique idea... Lol.

I am thinking of jumping to it. Love lg's software and it has nice hardware to boot. Battery life not as worried about as my new job won't let me on my phone as much, will be too busy. Stand by time should still be amazing.
Only reason really for switching is size. Need something more pocketable.

Not sure how long it will be for Android L comes out but read it improves battery life. I also wouldn't mind a smaller phone. Not sure if I'll miss the size of the Flex screen though.

Jumping to the G3 till the flex2 or whatever it's called is out, can't stand the menu button, why didn't they have options to change it to task switcher. Apps at playstore is able to change it but I'll lose some of the functionality

I really like the flex... Size, curve, buttons. Even better rooted. The UI is ok. Probably not switch until the new flex. I really miss flashing too. This was the first device I ever got on day 1 with no development. Not sure I want to do that again. Samsung and HTC would really need to come up with something out of this world for me to switch. So many devices right now with similar specs. Size, battery and buttons were probably the biggest things for me. The actual display is iffy on this but the next one will most likely be much better.
Yeah I got a jump in August I think I'm done with LG. I too really miss flashing roms and mods

So with the Nexus 4 around the corner, I'm sure a lot of us are wondering if we should keep messing with this phone. The Nexus 4 is 300 bucks for the 8gb version, so you could sell this phone and get 150-200, and cover the rest. It is completely unlocked and has higher specs all around than this phone (besides no LTE which may stop me from buying it). So I was wondering how much of this community will stay with the AHD. It's a great device, especially with the new battery, but is it worth not be able to flash as many roms as possible to it? Let me know your opinions and help me make up my mind! If I do decide to get it I will have a AHD with the battey mod, otterbox, TPU case, hdmi, and Zagg screen protector for sale lol. But seriously anyone open to speak their minds? I don't know what to do!

Given the lack of a working recovery at this point. I'm giving serious consideration to picking up a N4 as my primary, and keeping my AHD as a backup.
If you read the reviews on the N4, in spite of the newer hardware, it still gets spanked by the One X, and the S3. HERE on Anandtech.
Knowing that my phone spanks both the OneX as well as the S3 like a red headed step child, it's going to be tough moving to a somewhat slower phone, but having a working recovery to backup, and flash my ROMs as updates occur is much more important to me

Ah, do you see any chance of us getting the bootloader unlocked? It looked like Matt was making good progress, I'm guessing that is when he bricked his phone, although I dont know for sure. Or do you think this phone will end up getting left behind completely. I really like this phone, but I am tired of moto already. Seriously, coming out with a dev version 4 months after the retail???? With NO word it will ever come out. That is absolute bs. At least let us trade in out retail version for the dev version (obviously with a small upgrade fee, maybe 50-100 bucks). I would be fine with that and it would be do able for them.

I don't know wtf Moto is up to lately?!?
I was reading that there's a "brick wall" between Google and Moto, meaning that Google bought them for their patents, and they refuse to show any bias towards them in fear of pissing off other phone manufacturers.
I sure wish Google would rethink this strategy, and start building phones that really blow anything else out of the water.
They have the OS, and they now own a company that has the "potential" to build the best phones out, yet they keep frigging things up.
I know I'll never purchase another Moto phone until/unless they start rethinking their strategy, and at the very least stop encrypting the signatures for the bootloaders.
Just my .02c

From reviews, it suppose to be pretty high quality. Also is suppose to feel nice in the hand. With that said, still a good point and something to look for.
LG's build quailty is under-rated. Same as with any hobby or whatever you call this phone obsession. People look at price and give it a bad name. I think LG started turning the corner with the Nitro. It was a solid phone. Nothing compares to Moto though with build quality. But I think LG beats Samsung and HTC.

Haha I agree, I will be giving it a few more months! I have decided to wait lol
I'll definitely be sticking with the Atrix HD. I was a flashaholic on my Atrix 4G so I was disappointed that this phone has a locked down bootloader. On the other hand, I've had absolutely no complaints about this phone especially where battery life is concerned with the EB40. Having all the power that this phone has to offer with excellent battery life is just what I needed. This phone has completely replaced my computers altogether. As for the bootloader, Hashcode has already done tremendous work on getting safestrap working for our devices. Why worry about a locked bootloader when we can get around it with safestrap? Isn't the point of an unlocked bootloader to get a custom recovery for flashing and isn't that what safestrap hopes to do without the need for unlocking the bootloader? I won't be giving this phone up anytime soon and I look forward to getting a Paranoid Android build going for it.

Hey there,
I'm thinking about my last weeks with my O2x, my Nexus4 is already ordered.
But what will be after CM10/4.2, is there anybody who will use this phone after 4.2
Is there anybody who will create Android 5.0 for this (stupid) phone?
What do you think?
I suppose that me and many other people will use it till it works. If it will work next 30 years, i will probably use O2x for next 30 years.
Yop, I think I will buy next phone in 2014. O2X works, still 2 cores are enough.
N4 looks good, but not for 500€.
yes of course i also use my phone for 30 years if needed, i'll only a buy new android if i seen a smartphone that will satisfy my needs

10 years average, as long as it dont get wrecked or broken. i'll have it for a long time. new phone will come when i need it, not when i want it =P

My thoughts exactly.
As for the OP's question re: Android 5, might as well think about v.10 or whatever, it would be as (ir)relevant... I am pretty positive v.4.x will be the last for this phone, but I don't care, as long as it works. Even earlier this year I was still using Treo 680 with PalmOS 5. Great phone; the only thing that sucked on it was the internet access, hence my move to Android...

the two phones before this one, was a O2 Xda (Qtec 2020), and a Nokia 7110 i bought 2 extra batteries for each phone over the years to keep them going, and except for a bit of a clean, they are both in pretty excellent condition. i thought i'd get with the times and buy a decent phone.
and i went for something i thought was build very well, with lots of ways to customize, with many possible configs, soon after getting it, i was on the same wagon as the auto reboots and other problems that LG dug themselves with updates. but i'm happy with my purchase. its been worth the cost. and the outcome after the amazing help from the devs here my phone is F*cking awesome. my younger brother has a S3 and its a very pretty phone, i've done my work on it rooting it and moding it for him. and i do like it. but i see my phone as something that works and does not need replacing any time soon.
I am happy if I get my Nexus 4.
My o2x broke with ICS four times, and I must reinstall all apps.
Really annoying if you need your phone for your job.
I'm really really curious about the Nexus 4, will be my second Christmas if it arrives in January.

According to this article (and others like it I could not find right away) the reputation you speak of for HTC is not true. In terms up updating thier phones, HTC is the best of the major OEMs. Get a ONE!
... not to mention this is the first time (or first time in a while) we've seen them drop the same phone on many carriers, and tout a phone as their flagship for the year.
I feel like they'll be behind making this thing the best they can make it this year.
The best of all major OEM's?! Are you joking? Call me a Sammy fanboy all you want but there upgrading 2 year old phones still, and many, many others! I do NOT see HTC doing this. Samsung has way more phones out then HTC and still manages to do this. I honestly might be getting the One but by no means is HTC the best at updating.

Also keep in mind Samsung's success has them being the top android manufacturer. They have a lot more money to hire developers than HTC. This allows them to keep up with their devices like they do. But Samsung used to be terrible before their success. HTC might become very competitive on updates as well. They're not bad now, but sprint did drag their feet with the Evo 3D.

Indeed, with the One I think we're going to see big things for HTC over the next year. A unified phone being the biggest contributor to their increase sales. They did what the GS3 did originally but stepped up their game with a modern phone with modern specs. Competition is good for the two, it will make everyone else reach harder to stay on par and they'll compete for who has the better phone. I think when 5.0 is dropped most likely next month, both manufactures will be rushing to get it out, we can only hope that the carriers don't drop the ball.
I think HTC has already stated that a 4.2.2 build is in the works and we'll get it soon. (Hopefully)

I know, was just poking some fun. I've had a Samsung Moment, LG Optimus One, then an HTC Evo 3D all on Sprint. I also follow smartphones/tablets and new technology in general daily (actually, part of my job sort of). What I've seen is Samsung sucked at updates until that had success with the Galaxy series, even the early Galaxy's were slow to get updates. The LG phones were lucky to get anything at all. HTC updated pretty well recently, except in the US. International HTC devices got updates pretty quickly and regularly, but Sprint was slow to do so. Sprint seems to have been slow about this in general just like every other carrier here in the US. Although, the Evo 3D was extremely late (almost a year later) to the ICS party. This update was promised to us pretty early and it started to feel like we'd never get it by the time it released. Then Sprint held it for testing I assume for a few more months. The Evo 3D users were suspecting Sprint was holding onto the ICS update to encourage people to buy their Boost Mobile variant of the phone as it released with ICS, was the same exact phone with a different name, and was supposed to attract people to Boost. Not sure if this is the real reason, it was a month or two after that phone launched the rest of us got ICS.
In either case, HTC wasn't bad about it, they weren't great but they weren't bad. Sprint, on the other hand, seems to have been slow and I know there are a number of reasons for this. They need to test everything before they launch it. Does it work on their network properly and with their bloatware? They have to prioritize their devices to test and they have to be thorough to ensure they aren't liable for anything going wrong. It's a crappy system, but thats how it is.

And it also comes with a creaky, terrible housing. Software versus hardware... Take your pick. One can be changed, the other can't. (Of course you can always put a solid case on it. My wife is probably going to get the GS4, so I won't speak too terribly about it, and I will by no means call it a bad phone... just poor build quality, especially compared to the One.)

I don't like holding this phone, and I can't overstate how much that informs the experience of using it. It makes an awful first impression, slippery and slimy and simply unpleasant in your hand. My white review unit is completely smooth and glossy, with a subtle checkered pattern that looks textured but is neither grippy nor textured anywhere on its body. Even the silver band around the sides, which is obviously supposed to look like metal, is plastic. Everyone I showed the GS4 to frowned and wrinkled their nose as if it smelled bad, before rubbing their fingers on the back of the phone and then handing it back to me — that's the opposite of the standard reaction to HTC’s One, which everyone wants to ogle and hold. That's going to be a huge problem for Samsung, because the GS4 and One are likely to be next to each other on store shelves, and at least on first impression there's absolutely no contest between the two.

I agree with HarryTipper. Sammy seems to be better at upgrading than HTC. They didn't used to be but they have stepped up their game in past two years. HTC took forever to update the 3d and the evo LTE as well.

Hmmm Evo LTE came out June, was updated December. 6 months, only 2 months after Sprint released the update for the SG3. Sounds like its not HTC or Samsung but the carrier who is the culprit.
Now lets see. All the GS3's outside the US got upgraded to 4.1.2 in december. Has the GS3 been updated in the US yet? Nope, has it recieved the new samsung premium suite package that everyone else with the GS3 recieved? Nope. Hmmmmm....
If you actually looked at the link posted above, you can clearly see that there isn't much of a difference between Samsung and HTC as far as timely updates.

I honestly don't care about what it's made of as long as it looks good, and performs good I'm fine. I am more of a specs and software kind of person. Although the one does have me pretty intrigued because I've never had a phone built as so, and I listen to music and watch a lot of videos so I know those speakers will come in handy. I'm going to give it a test drive, and if I don't like it, I'll just switch to the S4. The only reason I'm hesitant is because I'm not a big fan of sense... nor am I a big fan of all the stuff you have to do to root the thing. Compared to Samsung phones, it's way more difficult.

As much as I love the One, I was actually thinking the same. If the GS4 comes out and it's amazing, I'll simply switch over. The build quality is no competition, but like I said, you can always get a solid case. I would like a larger screen. If I could get my hands on a phone with 5.5" screen and current hardware, I would probably jump on it (LG Optimus G Pro, if it ever comes to Sprint?).

If you want that, why not get the note 2? It's going to get a lot of the S4 features, and I wouldn't go with LG. The Optimus G has been out less then a year, and had 1 update and is already EOL.

Well... I'm going to try and balance the score sheet here, as it seems to me, only the people who are dis-satisfied take to the internet to tell people how they feel, I thought it needs to be shown that there are many more who are happy with their device, and so I'm going to share my experience so far... Ok, so just a mere 2 full days in to ownership.
Firstly, I mentioned in another thread somewhere, that the absolute best thing about buying a new phone is the wait. The anticipation for it to arrive. That feeling of excitement is the best that being an owner of the device is ever going to be... and to me, that remains true. I for one, loved how this device was "announced" the leaks, the rumours... everything. Pure genius from Google.
So, it arrived first thing yesterday morning. My first thoughts were how nice the device felt, solid build quality, a perfect size, and very understated. Just what I was looking for.
As the day went on, I started to worry about battery life. Coming from a Note 2, which with some custom kernel and rom, I could use it all I liked all day and by the time I was going to bed I was at like 30-40% remaining, it was never a doubt for me that this was going to be an issue.... and compared to that, yes, it is an issue.... I'd like it to last all week, who wouldn't? At around 8-9 hours of ownership, I had a feeling that perhaps I should have bought the LG G2... but more on that later. Id be in heaven if that G2 battery would actually fit in there, but alas, it looks as though I'll be rocking 2300mAh for a while.
With my personal battery life reservations aside, the speed, the smoothness, and silkyness of the phone is amazing. If I picked up something with better battery life, I doubt i'd experience the same joy that this thing gives the user. I repair phones etc as a side hobby, so I see a great many of different devices (including the latest from apple) and this is the first time I can say that an android device can match, even the iphone 5s in smoothness, and that is saying a lot.
Hardware wise, I'm not seeing any negatives as I've seen reported by other users here. My screen is vibrant and clear. It beats all my previous devices, and seems to be as vibrant as anything else otherwise touted as "better"
The camera.... well, I'm no photographer. In this department, I guess I'm what you would call the average user. In phones I've actually owned, my favourite camera has been the galaxy S3. Overall image quality aside, the thing that won me on it was the shutter speed. Zero lag. On that thing, I clicked the screen, and that was the picture I got, no messing. Not so fast with the N5, but image quality wise, I can't fault it... It certainly knocks socks off my wife's galaxy nexus, and it is high quality enough to make me feel that I have no need for an actual camera for all my photoing needs. In fact, this video: http://youtu.be/Qp6clWG-b5c seems to mirror my experience with the camera here... not too shabby by my standards. I'm exceptionally pleased with the low light shots without a flash.... just the typical real life situation I find myself in when I want a photo!!
So... as the end of day 2 draws to a close, my battery life woes seem to be fading... stats like those in the attachments really give me hope... and that is still on the standard kernel and rom, although it is now rooted.
At the end of the day, when I made the choice for my next phone, my last two choices were between the N5, and LG G2... I made my N5 decision without viewing anything official through fear of it selling out. I pulled the trigger on this little sucker as soon as it went live in the play store (No way was I selling out to CPW for a 16gb) At the back of my mind, having the nexus device where I could play with all the dev's work won me over, compared to the only benefit I could see in the G2, the battery, and I'm happy to say that all feelings of doubt over whether I should have bought the G2 have gone. I'm happy with my nexus, and I feel that I will be for a long time to come. In fact, id go as far as to say, that despite the "development scene" being a major factor in my purchasing, the user experience is so good at this point, that I don't even want to flash any ROMs yet... I know the time will come for that, and that will provide me with good longevity for the device, but for now, the pure Google experience has it all... and at a bargain price too
With you, love the device.

I'm really loving the device as well. Google did a hell of a job with 4.4. Can't wait for more custom roms!
Unlike so many others, I know how to keep my expectations in check. This phone is amazing for the money, nothing even comes close. In fact, even if it cost the same thing as my Xperia ZL ($600) it's still better.
Finally a thread that praises the Nexus 5
I swear all the threads in the last 2 days have been so depressing-- thank you for this man
ps. am also in love with Nexus 5
I think a lot of the negativity is coming from people that have the ability to buy a new phone four times a year so they're really not happy with anything. These people coming from the Moto X baffle me. I guess if you have the money to spend that's your prerogative, but it skews your perception of value. I'm coming from a One X that I bought on launch day and I'm still not eligible for an upgrade so the Nexus will be a nice bump up.

I also get the feeling that there are a lot more new people who are hear to complain, much more than before. I got mine today and love everything about it. As much as I love my 2012 Nexus 4 & 7, this year's 5 & 7 have been outstanding.

I dont know why you guys need 54543 threads to both praise and hate the device. There should not be a "Love" thread because nobody cares if you guys like it or not. People who like it will get it. And for this matter, you can write reviews in amazon or anyother place where people will actually care about what you say.
A nexus 5 review thread could be useful here but hey, I am no mod, just keep "lovin"!
Anyway, smart people usually wait and see the reviews-issues before they buy a device, you wont convince them to anything and the ones who buy the phone immediately usually dont care about opinions.
I am a potential buyer but I am rather interested to buy it much later, thats why I lurk here.

I didn't think I was going to be as impressed as I actually am with this device. It is like a work of art. This is totally a flagship device. The build, screen quality and 4.4 what can be better then that. This is probably the first Nexus I would really recommend to someone wanting to try Android or even leave iOS. Usually I would always tell an older person to stick with their iPhone and a not so techy person who wants to go with Android to try an S4 or HTC One. Not this time. This device is the whole package.
Anyway, to much positive talk going on in here....This phone truly sucks.

but yet instead of enjoying the device. they take it out of the box start shaking it. wiggling buttons. tapping on it. swinging there arms. taking it apart and putting paper inside LOL. i put a spigen case on it. with rubber buttons. no rattles no shakes. no nothing. and even if it did. i loveeeeeee this nexus. best yet. enjoy your phones people.

I never said that. I only said, nobody cares if you love it. People wiho care already know why they care and anyone of you can name those things.
Its like buying a porsche and saying: "I might aswell go in a forum and praise it!". Everybody knows why its good. You know, its also a part of sending a message. Maybe goog and LG should withhold the selling of the devices to "Fix" them, and release a revision. Like the Nexus 4 did with a bumper in the back.
You will get over it eventually....eventually.
But hey, I know the feeling. Having to praise the phone and others agreeing with you and boosting your self esteem. Yep, magical. Except that when you think about it, you kinda lose the charm when you realize that you are doing so because you are unsure if you have made the right decision. So you need some external confirmation.
Hey, if I could buy this phone, I would not complain about wiggly buttons, 1-2 dead pixels and so on, because how amaizing it is. I prefer to wait after Christmas.
Would have been nice if google wasn't that cheap to save on the speaker and wifi antenna.

I've had a Jump to use for 6 months. LoL. I got a deal on the Flex so I didn't use it. Nothing out that I want right now. I just couldn't pull the trigger on a M8 because it seems to small. I'm waiting on Note 4 or even maybe a iPhone 6.

I think they said it will be announced at IFA, in early September..
I have a jump in August, that I will use to grab a M8, and I have another one to use anytime after that, so If the note4 is incredibly outstanding, I will probably grab that, but who knows what will be out in a month or 2..
Not gonna jump onto the LG Bandwagon again, maybe oppo or Sony where lots of developing happen

I haven't had a reason to root honestly. I don't have the time for it anyway. Flex is the 1st phone I haven't had to mess with it. Just like their software better than anyone else's. From their knock on/off code to the pop up SMS and phone calls, its slick.
Checking on the g3 next week in the stores and go from there. Need a smaller phone for pocketbility.

Totally agree, they put some good thought into the software. They're actually useful features on the Flex unlike other phones out there that bost about no touch or eye navigation doesn't work worth a lick.
Dont forget about the Flex's camera app, it excels past my old S4.

The G3 is not that much smaller than the flex, man...smaller yes, but not alot.
How do you know? The g2 is way smaller and the g3 isn't much bigger than the g2....I know, I have two of them. It will be way more pocketable. This thing sticks out with deep pockets.
the G3 is 5.5 inches,vs the 6 inch flex, so not sure if 1/2 is small enough to make it pocket able for you..yep, g2 would work, as would a M8, as far as easier pocketability
As big as the Flex is I don't think it's that bad. I stream music with my Flex in my shorts when I mow the grass all time. I have baller shorts though and not tight ass girly shorts. haha Not saying you have tight shorts Jesse. lol
Do you guys think developers will be able to unlock the bootloader on the G3? I know I should just wait but now you guys have me thinking on trying the M8. I thought about it before but never could pull the trigger. I think I would miss the big display of the Flex. I sold my Nexus 7 because I wasn't using it since I bought the Flex.
i think eventually the G3 will be unlocked, because so many more people will end up getting it, it wont be a "niche" phone like the flex is, but who knows how long it will take.LG isnt dev friendly, so its not like they will do anything to help the process, unlike HTC, which actually makes it super easy to unlock your phone.
I've had a few HTC Phones now, and they are definitely the most developer friendly of them all; check the M8 threads and see there are dozens of roms/kernels/tweaks..plus the M8 screen is very nice, and of course that phone has the best sound of any phone out now, so that makes it better for someone who likes music.
I'm def going for a M8 when my jump is here in a few weeks, and if the note 4 is mind boggling, or if the damn Sony phone ever comes here, I might use another jump for that, but since my wife and son will get G3's, I can always mess around with theirs if I miss LG for any reason..
The LG G2 had a lot of development before KitKat. I think KitKat was more locked down but not sure how development is for the G2 now since I stopped reading after I got my Flex.
Not sure I care all that much about the M8 speakers since I usually always wear a headset.
T-Mobile G3 comes unlocked from the factory and almost already has a recovery. Thanks for the news D-Fuse and all that your doing for the Flex. :good:
I'm not even sure how the Jump works. I'm on the original Jump. I was thinking about ordering it through T-Mobile so in case I didn't want to keep the G3 I can just return it and still have my Flex. Not sure you can do that though.
