[Q] Driving, Assist and Texting - Moto X Q&A

Can someone clarify this.
It used to be that when driving it would auto reply that you were driving (it was always sent twice but that was OK). Recent changes allow you to talk back an actual message. However sometimes it's still sending "I am driving......". I like that and I would like that to be sent most of the time but I can't figure out why that happens sometimes and not others.
So how do I get it to reply that way ?

??

There used to be the option to tell the caller the preset "I'm driving...", then in an update it allowed that, as well as a custom preset message, or to reply whatever you wanted right then. Then in the next update it appears the options are gone (I think even including whether to have it announce the incoming caller's name or not) -so looks like no options anymore, unfortunately, only to reply with a text message you dictate right then, or "cancel"

But it's still doing the auto reply some of the time. Not clear what triggers it.

That is odd. Mine never does that, and good friend has moto x, his never does it either, just the message dictated.

I think it's related to not voice replying.

Touchless Control says wrong name?

So my mom wanted my music on her phone, so I attempted adding my account to it. Silly me thought I could disable everything but Google Music, but I couldn't, so I took my account off.
But for some reason, whenever she says "Ok Google Now," it says Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening My Name as opposed to Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening Her Name.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to change it back. Everything is on her account, Google Now settings says it's using her account, her account dashboard says her name. Tried clearing cache on touchless control, no dice.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you go into the "People" app and click on the top most contact (it should say "ME" as a heading), it probably says your name instead of hers. Change that to hers and it should say the name properly now. Let me know if you need a screenshot, but it's just the top most contact in the list.

Ah! I should have thought of that! Such a simple answer haha. My mom thanks you!
What the??? Mine has never said Good Morning (or anything) back to me at all. Its just silent, and it always annoyed me because I would always miss words when I thought it was listening and it wasn't. I have to look at it to make sure it pulsating circle is active.
It's stock, not rooted. Is there some setting somewhere?

It doesn't say anything, it displays it on the screen. It really should at least make a beep or something. I never know when to start speaking to it.

You can actually speak right after the "OK Google now" phrase, you don't need to pause or wait.

I guess you can! I thought you had to wait for the screen to turn on.

Hmm, I edited my name but it still is showing one of my other accounts. Strange.
It would be nice if it would use the phonetic name in that Me contact, but it doesn't.

Moto Assist no longer has custom auto reply options

Hi all.. Updated the Assist app a few days back and now it does not have custom auto reply options for Driving mode. (Accessed through the right arrow after 'Talk to me')
Contacted support and clearing app cache was their solution which obviously didn't work.
I have yet to test it while driving; whether it is now providing the options through voice control whether to send an auto reply or to dictate a reply or if it even offers to send a reply. It looks like they just removed the most helpful update since its initial release.
Has anyone else also noticed the same?

I've noticed this as well. I don't use auto reply, I use voice reply. But I could see how this could be useful to some people.
I noticed that, too it appears none of the settings for assist in driving mode (the arrow to the right) are there anymore, was wondering if it's an error on their part, or intended.
I was trying to recall, isn't it there, in the now missing settings where one can also opt for things like "read out the name of the incoming caller"?

Don't remember that setting... I even left a 1 star review after this update and they haven't responded which they normally do for such reviews. I think if it would have been a bug then they would've solved it out pretty quickly seeing how obvious it is, don't think it would've reached the Play Store.

[Q] messages sent from watch not appearing on phone

hey guys. I just got the LG G Watch R today and it's been a lot of fun to play with. however, when i use the "ok google" command to send messages (this happens on my phone as well, an HTC One M8), the message does not show up in the text messaging history. is audio history required to be on for these to be recorded? much thanks!

If you look below looks like at least 2 of us are having similar problems, although it is showing as sent on the phone doesn't actually send the text. Still waiting for someone to chime in myself and see if we can get it figured out, not a complete deal breaker but it does kinda stink.

thanks for replying. actually though, we're having different issues. for me, the text does go out, because i'm getting replies. however, my phone doesn't record what i've sent, so i can forget what's gone out and will get a reply to something i don't even remember. because i'm forgetful, i reaaaally wish they had a fix for it, and i haven't been able to find any sort of fix. or anyone else with this issue, for that matter.
see, i was in the middle of typing something earlier and forgot, so i deleted it -.-.

I was experiencing this also using an HTC One M8. It would show the message if I enabled SMS in Hangouts but then the message didn't show in the default messaging app. I decided to purchase Wear Messenger and use that instead. The app is worth it IMO for the ability to see my text message history/threads alone.

App permission monitor stating the obvious on SMS?

Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.
Detailed Process

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

You do know they legit just told you how to do it.... you dont have to be mean about it. and then stating "THIS" is what im looking for. Like they told you how to get there, you click the name. if you went onto there to just hit the toggle without looking/investigating around, ie. pressing the section instead, then you arent probably getting the most out of your phones.
I suggest playing around in your settings and everything to get the most out of your phone.
I legit just made this account to tell you this because the person helped you and you seemed to speak rude to them.

This is happening on my note 8 as well. Have you been able to fix this? I'm a little worried it could be something malicious using back-end processes, like they programmed the exploit to send SMS messages without involving surface flinger...

I am assuming you are using a 3rd party messaging app from the play store?
I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.

Can Not Thank You Enough! I could not figure out how to get that to stop to save me and my OCD couldn't take anymore of those notifications as it was always about my chosen text app. Turning off all didn't work why I didn't think to try just the one is beyond me. So thanks again and this is why I love this Forum!

Dismiss incoming calls without rejecting call

Hi, I'm running stock Android 10 on my Note 9. One of the most annoying "features" is that incoming calls take up the whole screen with no possible means of dismissing, or switching to another app while its ringing. Often I don't want to send it to VM so I don't want to reject nor answer the call. I silence the ringer, I want to let it ring but I don't want to stare at the screen for the entire time its ringing. I have the show in pop up window enabled, but that only works if I have another app open. If a call just comes in when I don't have another app open, it obnoxiously takes over the phone with no options to do anything other than pressing either the red or green call buttons. Is there a way to change this behavior or can I install another dialer app and make it my default? I'm seriously amazed this is how it was designed to work!
If you're not in another app, why does it bother you?
If you mean when the phone is idle with screen off and a call comes in then I don't see a point in not being fullscreen.
When it is updated to ui 2.1 there might be a setting to change call display while using other apps/mini popup

Whether you see the point or not doesn't really matter, if I'm asking, what I'd like to know is can it be done or not? I don't understand these non informative responses. Why do you bother taking the time to respond only to say you don't see the point why I'm asking?
However, if you must fully understand before giving a more useful answer, I use Google voice and I need to see which calls come from Google voice as a forward versus direct calls to my cell phone number. The only way to differentiate is seeing if hangout is also ringing or not. Occasionally hang out starts up first in which case it works like a charm. But every time the phone app rings first, it locks the screen and I cannot navigate to the Hangouts app or even pull down the notification to see if Hangouts is even ringing.
That's only one reason. The other is if I don't want to send the call to voicemail, and I want to let it ring, I don't necessarily feel like staring at my phone for 30 seconds if I want to do something else on it. I've had many phones and this is the only one that is acting this way. It's dumb.

as I have already stated, I already have that option checked off but it only works as you said while in other apps. I question specifically was for times when I am not in other apps.

Thank you, that was much more helpful! I'm not sure if it's due to the difference of S10 vs Note 9, but the swiping down diagonally from your left to lower right doesn't do anything for me. Anyways, I guess we have exhausted all options and using the edge is probably the best one for me. Thanks again!

Glad it works. If you'd like to try the swipe from corner to make the window small but you can't right now try to install Good Lock and use the module MultiStar. Inside this module there's an option called "Pop-up view action" which enables (or forces or re-enables xd) the functionality to swipe from the top corner diagonally in order to make the currently open app's window smaller.
If Good Lock does not work where you live then use either FineLock or NiceLock from the play store and install the module from here manually: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...amsung-multistar-3-2-28-android-apk-download/
