Touchless Control says wrong name? - Moto X Q&A

So my mom wanted my music on her phone, so I attempted adding my account to it. Silly me thought I could disable everything but Google Music, but I couldn't, so I took my account off.
But for some reason, whenever she says "Ok Google Now," it says Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening My Name as opposed to Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening Her Name.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to change it back. Everything is on her account, Google Now settings says it's using her account, her account dashboard says her name. Tried clearing cache on touchless control, no dice.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you go into the "People" app and click on the top most contact (it should say "ME" as a heading), it probably says your name instead of hers. Change that to hers and it should say the name properly now. Let me know if you need a screenshot, but it's just the top most contact in the list.

Ah! I should have thought of that! Such a simple answer haha. My mom thanks you!

What the??? Mine has never said Good Morning (or anything) back to me at all. Its just silent, and it always annoyed me because I would always miss words when I thought it was listening and it wasn't. I have to look at it to make sure it pulsating circle is active.
It's stock, not rooted. Is there some setting somewhere?

It doesn't say anything, it displays it on the screen. It really should at least make a beep or something. I never know when to start speaking to it.

You can actually speak right after the "OK Google now" phrase, you don't need to pause or wait.

I guess you can! I thought you had to wait for the screen to turn on.

Hmm, I edited my name but it still is showing one of my other accounts. Strange.

It would be nice if it would use the phonetic name in that Me contact, but it doesn't.

[Q] Notification Saying "fwd fwd please call [?phone number]"

Today I saw something really weird, I am asking for an explanation of what it was.
I had my N1 screen locked and in my pocket.
I took it out to check the time... so first I hit the power button to turn the screen on.
As soon as the screen was on I saw what I think is called a "biscuit?" type notification on my phone that was centered in the screen. It said:
"fwd fwd please call [phone number I didn't recognize]"
Below that was two buttons I think for "Call" or "Dismiss".
I hit Dismiss and went on to unlock the phone and check the time but it was the only time I have ever seen that type of notification.
I checked new Emails, Texts, Chats but it wasn't part of any of those.
Sorry I couldn't get a screen capture of it.
Any bright ideas out there?
My configuration:
N1, Tmobile, was rooted prior to manually install gingerbread from update.zip. [I don't think it's rooted anymore]

If anyone did have one of those listed apps, I'd also suggest turning on Google's 2-Step verification for your Gmail account. I unfortunately downloaded the 'Chess' app last week, only to find it didn't actually appear to do anything at all when I opened it on my N1. But within a few days, my Gmail account was hijacked for spam. It's the only correlation I have, and while I have no proof, it's a strong suspicion and probably good advice anyway.

On that note, it's probably not a bad idea to go ahead and install a free mobile antivirus program like Lookout, AVG, or Norton.
I'm not sure if this is the same, but might be something to look at. My voicemail with tmo offers people the option to page instead of leave a message. When they do, I always get some cryptic 'please call [number]' message that shows up like a text.

But is there any proof those apps would have detected the malware that androidpolice reported?

Not having access to those malicious apps to test with, I can't say for sure. What I can say is that those antivirus apps will detect far more malicious apps than you would without them. Especially when it's free, it doesn't make any sense to not have some sort of protection.
EDIT: As mentioned on the Official Lookout Blog:
Update: We’ve deployed an over-the-air update that protects Lookout users from all known instances of DroidDream.

So at least with the update, yes, Lookout would now detect the DroidDream malware. Again, better safe than sorry.

I think this is what I saw. I have TMo and their visual voicemail app, and with no signal in the building I was working in a caller must have done that paging thing.
It was weird that it didn't look like a text notification.
Also thanks for the tip about malware, I didn't have any of the apps listed, but the google account check is very good advice.

I don't care what it is as long as we cover it in butter and jam!
I was thinking they might be called "pancake" notification? Some sort of breakfast snack... either way I repeated the condition by dialing my phone and "paging" option. Thanks all you all.

You can try changing your name card. Pull down the notification shade, tap your name/profile icon, tap your name in the floating window, and tap the 3 dots to edit the name. I just tried and it's working fine.

Thanks but that didn't work for me. it is still using my full name. the funny thing is that it sometimes pronounces it right and sometimes it doesnt.

Hmm. Try deleting your "me" contact card and make another one. It must be sourcing from your accounts.
If you use G+ you can change your profile name within the app. It will update on all your Google products. The OK Google Now feature pulls your name from your Google profile.

Getting unknown unwanted notification

Hi,
Got my LG Watch R yesterday and still sorta getting to know it, but last night around 2am, I got a notification saying "16mins to Work", despite not working and being a student and directing me to a place I've never been before.
I don't even know when or how I set this notification (if I did) or how google thought I would want to go there.
I think it may be a notification from google maps, as there is an option to navigate when you swipe to left a few times which opens google maps on your phone.
Any help would be massive appreciated.
Hi,
It's an information coming from Google Now and I never found a solution to stop it. In Google Now you can settle your Home and Work location and it works with these. Unfortunately, even if you don't give a Work location, it sometimes comes up with an info anyway... :silly:

Thanks man, seems you're right. Opened the google app and I can see it there. This is very annoying, what if you don't go somewhere everyday or you're off from work? It seems theres no way to even mess with the notification settings.

What the heck Is this?

Pretty sure you have volume set on priority only
After some searching around, found it.
It's a lollipop feature called "interruptions" which allows you to decide what app notifications can interrupt you. I had apparently set it to custom. I set the default back and the star disappeared.
By the way, when I say I haven't installed any apps, or I'm confident that it's not my apps, it's not an app.
That is the priority notifications only icon. See here. Check which one you have selected.

It's like an alarm feature. Only notifications from the people you've prioritised will show.

How it works......
You set days and times that you don't want something to happen, phone calls, texts, notifications. Example.... I have mine set for 7 days, 930p-630a, to only allow starred contacts to call or message me. If someone not starred messages or calls me, my phone will not ring, allowing me to watch movies, sleep, whatever, uninterrupted.

Do this;
Star the contact for your wife, parents, etc., and NOT your boss. Set downtime for nights and weekends. Now your work can't bother you at night or on weekend.

App permission monitor stating the obvious on SMS?

Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.
Detailed Process

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

You do know they legit just told you how to do it.... you dont have to be mean about it. and then stating "THIS" is what im looking for. Like they told you how to get there, you click the name. if you went onto there to just hit the toggle without looking/investigating around, ie. pressing the section instead, then you arent probably getting the most out of your phones.
I suggest playing around in your settings and everything to get the most out of your phone.
I legit just made this account to tell you this because the person helped you and you seemed to speak rude to them.

I am assuming you are using a 3rd party messaging app from the play store?
I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.

Can Not Thank You Enough! I could not figure out how to get that to stop to save me and my OCD couldn't take anymore of those notifications as it was always about my chosen text app. Turning off all didn't work why I didn't think to try just the one is beyond me. So thanks again and this is why I love this Forum!
