Hi Guys,
i know its a random question but i was wondering if it is possible to change the name that Touchless Control uses? Ok Google Now can't pronounce my first name so instead its simply spelling it out. i would like to change it to something else that it is can pronounce but so far i have been unable to find out how to do that.

You can try changing your name card. Pull down the notification shade, tap your name/profile icon, tap your name in the floating window, and tap the 3 dots to edit the name. I just tried and it's working fine.

Thanks but that didn't work for me. it is still using my full name. the funny thing is that it sometimes pronounces it right and sometimes it doesnt.

Hmm. Try deleting your "me" contact card and make another one. It must be sourcing from your accounts.
If you use G+ you can change your profile name within the app. It will update on all your Google products. The OK Google Now feature pulls your name from your Google profile.

Guys quick question, runnning stock 2.1, or a custom 2.2, My navigation would use the default voice I set in settings, it also said street names.
Since using CM7 I notice Nav is using its own voice selection and not reading street names.
My GMAPS is upto date.
What is going on?
In order to get the street names read to you, I always had to install a text to speech library from the market. It has always prompted me to do so the first time I started Navigation. It doesnt show up in my apps list, so I am not sure of the exact name.
There's a CM7 sticky for this kind of thing.

My phone was setup in the shop where I bought it, and I never had a chance to type my "display name" (this is what apps like WhatsApp show to other people). Is there a way I can add this after setup has been finished, or must I factory reset? (Note: I'm not going to root yet.)
Thanks!
Edit: I found it can be accessed from the quick-toggle pane. The upper left button. Click it, click the main identity, and click "edit profile". Add a name.
Not sure if I get you right, but:
Settings - Info - Phone Identity - Phone Name
Is it that what you're searching for?

Thank you, but I don't think that's it. Phone name says "HTC One". This is probably an identifier used for hostname/debugging/bluetooth, but what I'm looking for is my own personal name. For example, e-mail programs might use this to set a default "from" name. WhatsApp uses it to tell others what my name is.

I don't recall setting anything other than the phone name during Sense setup. Whatsapp display name is in Settings > Profile

I don't recall seeing it myself, but I'd bet my new phone it's part of the setup. It's part of Google Android and Samsung Android. It's the last step after entering your e-mail address.
Try:
google.com/dashboard
Login, and there you can change a "name" (Don't know if thats what you're looking for)

Is your phone a Google Play edition? I'm using Modaco.SWITCH so I've gone through the Sense and GPe setup many times. Only in GPe have I set up a name.
Where are you seeing this display name that you want changed?
I found it by poking around more. Thanks! See edited first post if curious.
So my mom wanted my music on her phone, so I attempted adding my account to it. Silly me thought I could disable everything but Google Music, but I couldn't, so I took my account off.
But for some reason, whenever she says "Ok Google Now," it says Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening My Name as opposed to Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening Her Name.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to change it back. Everything is on her account, Google Now settings says it's using her account, her account dashboard says her name. Tried clearing cache on touchless control, no dice.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you go into the "People" app and click on the top most contact (it should say "ME" as a heading), it probably says your name instead of hers. Change that to hers and it should say the name properly now. Let me know if you need a screenshot, but it's just the top most contact in the list.

Ah! I should have thought of that! Such a simple answer haha. My mom thanks you!
What the??? Mine has never said Good Morning (or anything) back to me at all. Its just silent, and it always annoyed me because I would always miss words when I thought it was listening and it wasn't. I have to look at it to make sure it pulsating circle is active.
It's stock, not rooted. Is there some setting somewhere?

It doesn't say anything, it displays it on the screen. It really should at least make a beep or something. I never know when to start speaking to it.

You can actually speak right after the "OK Google now" phrase, you don't need to pause or wait.

Hmm, I edited my name but it still is showing one of my other accounts. Strange.
It would be nice if it would use the phonetic name in that Me contact, but it doesn't.
So I have no access to WiFi unless it comes from this damn phone.
I don't know what this notification is all about but it's irritating the living hell out of me and it won't go away.
I have no WiFi network available to connect to and besides I have unlimited data and I don't want ANYTHING requiring WiFi
How the hell do I fix this before I lose my freakin mind?
Long press on the notification and select app info to see which app is requesting a dictionary update.
Some apps like the Google Play Store and Amazon App Store have settings that will not update apps above a certain size unless you are on WiFi. Disable that setting or set it to a higher limit.
If you find out what app is causing it, look in that apps settings for a similar wifi limit.
My Droid Turbo is doing the same thing the app info points to download manager....system application! UGH!!!
Same here, I even connected my Turbo to my work's WiFi and updated it and still I am getting this notification.

I disabled notifications & it went away. Mine stay connected to WiFi at work & is my mobile hot spot at home.
Maybe a fix for y'all
Try going into settings, language and input, click on the 3 bars to right of goggle keyboard. Select text correction. Then select add on dictionaries. I had to click on each language till i found ones i don't use and deleted. Also found one with blue bar trying to update. I was able to click on it then selected cancel. . I clicked on it second time and selected delete. So far has worked for me been about 14 hours since did that.
I also had this happen today. When I got home it downloaded and too about 2 seconds.

This did not work for me although it did lead me to the discovery of several dictionaries I have no intention of using that showed 'installed'. I was able to "delete" those dictionaries but they still show on the list as "available." Right now the only dictionary showing 'installed' is "English" but I see no indication that it's attempting to update, i.e. there is no progress bar or visual difference between it and the others on the list.
Disabling notifications for Download Manager obviously does get rid of the notification area icon but is an imperfect solution as, usually, I do want notifications from Download Manager. Anyone come up with something else that's working?
doesn't work

Unfortunately, it is a coincidence that it works for Google keyboard. The problem still exists for my phone and I don't use the Google keyboard only the Samsung one.
Go to Language and Input then Voice Search.
Click Offline Speech Recognition, then Auto-Update.
Change it to Auto-update languages at any time, instead of Wi-Fi
Then go to Text-to-speech output,
Click the Settings icon (looks like volume sliders)
Click Settings for Google Text-to-speech Engine
Turn off Use Wi-Fi only
I accidentally selected the phone storage for the location to search for sounds before I changed to settings to always ask and even though I hit cancel at the time I'm stuck with this selection. I made the choice in the Android messages app and tried settings>apps>messages>clear defaults but it didn't change and now I noticed that it's my only choice for other notification sound in other apps too! What am I missing? How do I get it to let me pick the path every time now?
I use Google's messages so I never saw anything that let me choose (also unrooted), but any sounds placed in to notifications folder on the root of the phone and sdcard can be choosen. Just note that it would use the meta tag info, if there are none then it just shows up on list as an entry called 'sound' (possible to have multiple sound entry)

Hmmm... Android message? or the Built in message? Anyway, you could try installing Zedge (ringtones app) and then from within the app try to change the sound. Maybe it will prompt you to reselect the location?

Both apps actually, all notification sounds go to the stick sounds. I can set a sound from Zedge but not to a specific contact or app. I'm looking to get the options back when I click on notification sound in an app.
As a long shot you could try resetting the sound picker app

Well. At least you got it. But for future reference... Maybe look in Settings...Apps... then click on the top right 3 dots.
I found some interesting default apps options.
You can select different ringtones for different contacts. Select a contact you want to change the ringtone for (make sure you've previously downloaded the ringtone you want) and then edit. Scroll down to more then at the bottom of the options you can choose a custom ringtone and message tone.

Ok. Settings...Apps...3 Dots top right corner...Default Apps....Default App Selection....Ask before setting default apps.
You're going to need to clear the default for the app first...then redo it....it will ask, Just once...or Always.

This is what I did after I made my selection. The problem was I couldn't locate the app that kept me from selecting it in notifications do I cleared all defaults. Not a complete loss but mildly inconvenient.

Yeah, unfortunately that would be the only way (since you don't remember the app)...that way, when you select...the option should pop up everytime, as long as you select Just Once everytime.
I'm having the same issue but that options to change message tone is not available on the Oreo Beta, hope the include it in the final build.

Possibly. Although the Contacts app is made by Samsung and isn't included in Android stock (as far as I know). So you might just have the most stable version available whilst they tweak it to work with Oreo.
I personally don't use it as no one ever messages me/calls me.
