Hi Forum
I have a 4 year old Samsung Galaxy S Plus. I have a problem with the phone physically - meaning that the volume buttons are not working. I want to install ClockWorkMod Recovery Touch but cannot flash it as I cannot move in my recovery down and up. Is there anyway that I can install ClockWorkMod Recovery without flashing it ? Or better yet... how can I root this phone without flashing ? I have a zip file and that zip file once flashed with give me root access, but once again cannot do it as the volume keys are not working on my sammie. Any ideas ??
You can try rooting with this app, just install and in one click you will have root http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/root-framaroot-one-click-apk-to-root-t2130276 and if that doesn't work try http://www.oneclickroot.com/phone/samsung-galaxy-s-plus/ regarding getting into recovery mode you could install a rom that would boot into recovery mode from the phones operating system, all CyanogenMod roms do this ( probably most custom roms do) if you hold power button you get the power menu options then just choose to boot to recovery
EDIT: actually if you're not already on a custom rom then you can't use the power menu options, ok so try rooting then installing an app that would let you boot to recovery. Something like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...um=organic&utm_term=android+power+menu+widget

Thanks for info... except that I can boot into recovery, except that I cannot select anything because my volume buttons don't work, so I cannot move up or down in order to select an option. I need a TOUCH RECOVERY in order to select any option not using my volume buttons. I have this in my HTC Sensation using Touch Clockworkmod Recovery and I am not using any of my volume buttons. Is there any way I can get that touch recovery and install it without flashing it ?
Oh i see sorry i miss understood you, ok so install this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334554 then flash the touch recovery version here http://d-h.st/QEP thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843825
EDIT: you'll need to root it first so try this http://www.oneclickroot.com/phone/samsung-galaxy-s-plus/ and if that doesn't work then try "Framaroot" link in my previous post,
You can use the ROM Manager app instead of going to recovery. You can do everything that's in the recovery from the app.

I installed Rom Manager and chose backup current rom. It installed ClockworkMod Recovery and successfully made a backup. I need to know two things and I couldn't find how.
First of all, when I use 3 button combination to boot into recovery I see the default 2e recovery screen, nothing new. Is this normal? My device had 3 button combinations disabeld and I used 3-button combo fix to fix it.
Second, how can I remove/uninstall Clockwork Recovery? I want to keep the phone as original/intact as possible if it needs to go to service.
Normaly the Clockworkmod create a Update.zip and when u go into the recovery Mod and choose apply update.zip he loads the clockworkrecovery..! Hope this was your Question...!

You mean every time I need to run Clockworkmod Recovery I need to run its update.zip at normal recovery?
There are 2 Ways to get into The Clockwork Recovery
1. Over the Rom Manager (but i think there u also must apply the update.zip)
2. Apply Update Zip in "normal" Recovery..
And yeah you must apply it every Time u want to get into this Recovery..
Well that clears up how to uninstall it, no need for it
Thanks for the help.
How do i flash a rom? I see there is an AmonRa recovery for the Droid Eris that doesn't require a trackball....is there something similar for the Nexus One?!
My current rom doesn't let me add an account, the trackball doesn't work and the home button and search button are a little weird.
I need help! x/

You'll need the trackball for Amon Ra and CWM too IIRC.
i figured it out!
download this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291970
it installs an app that will install recovery and also allow you to create a script to run in recovery.
so if your trackball doesn't work, you don't have to select anything in recovery, just do everything from within android itself.
be sure to go through the options and allow SUPERWIPE to be included in the options. it's the best route because you can't wipe DATA 3 times with this method!
If you are already rooted, ROM Manager lets you boot directly into the recovery!
If you are running a modded ROM right now, the power off menu will have an option where you can boot in recovery too

The problem is once you get into recovery, you need to use the trackball to select your items. His trackball isn't working.
ROM manager actually lets you do pretty much everything from within the booted OS. You can download and flash ROMs, change recoveries, make and restore from backups, etc.
I don't think you can do custom kernels (i.e. something other than what comes with whatever ROM you choose)...but actually, you might be able to. If you choose "Install ROM from SD card," it will let you choose any zip file. I don't know if it performs a check to see if the zip file is a rom or not, but if this menu entry merely tells CWM (the recovery) to install that zip file, you're good on ROMs too.
No matter what android version or ROM whenever i install ROM manager and allow thorugh superuser and reboot into recovery i get the stock recovery screen. This is very annoying. Could anyone give me advice?
Thanks

Ok, below im going to suggest two different ways to accomplish this.
Before you try this, if you are currently on 2.2 you will run into a 3e security error when in recovery. This process must be done from 2.1 or you must use the 3e security work around if attempting from 2.2. Which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
For me, its easier to use odin and flash back to 2.1 and then load the rom from there than to mess with the whole recovery thing.
How To: Install clockwork recovery.
DOWNLOAD THIS FILE FIRST THEN FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW.
FILE: http://www.mediafire.com/?ve234hbg64ctcu0
1. Go to the download folder and rename clockworkrecovery.zip to update.zip. Mount your phone and drag the update.zip file into the root directory. It is ok to overwrite the update.zip you used before. When it is done copying turn off your phone.
2. Unplug your phone and hold down both volume buttons and the power button until a strange menu with blue items pops up. This is called the recovery menu.
3. Scroll using the volume buttons to the menu item titled "reinstall packages" and press the power button to select.
4. Your phone should restart and you should be at a green menu which is clockwork mod. Do whatever you need to do from here.
Let me say, this is probably an older version of CWM because I pulled it from this thread :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
It should work fine for flashing all 2.2 based roms but I do not have any say for the 2.3 roms as Ive never tried.
2nd way. Use odin to flash a kernel that already has the CWM recovery installed. This is a little more complicated than it sounds as some kernels are not compatible with some roms and you must check that before flashing. If you choose this method, you need to go find a kernel that works and understand how to use Odin before trying.

Hi, I rooted my S5570 and installed super-user and Rom Manager, my volume rockers are totally busted (broken off via my younger sister) and now I'm trying to flash a ROM using Rom manager, so i go to Install Rom From SD card I select Cm-10.10 tass, then reboot and install in recovery, the phone restarts and goes into Android System Recovery, now I have to scroll down to apply sdcard.update.zip but I can't due to not being able to use the rocker, what should I do any other way to install ROMS? Thanks (Sorry if I posted this into the wrong section I'm a n00b to android pretty much)

Obviously, you need to update your CWM recovery to a touch enabled version. I know there is a flashable zip around, but you would probably need a version flashable through odin.. just look around
Just google: cwm touch galaxy mini

If I understood correctlly you have deleted everything from you're phone, well I do this every time when I flash a new rom. Just go back into recovery and flash a rom. Or you deleted absolute everything? recovery too? If so then download AIO toolkit, plug in your phone to pc via usb and hold down volume- and volume+ at the same time and flash back your desired recovery
If this helped press thanks button!

I'm not very familiar with TWRP I use clockworkmod but let see if I can help.
Well I don't know anything about TWRP
I suggest to flash clockwork mod recovery, Flash it using AIO toolkit (remove battery plug into the pc with the volume buttons pressed 4-5 sec)
then flash clockworkmod recovery 6
the boot up unto recovery (press power button and volume- simultaneously) the navigate down to mount (above advanced) and navigate to mount usb, a window on your pc will show up and copy cyanogenmod rom and gapps (wich can be found here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Gapps )
remove usb, go back and navigate to wipe data/cache then to advanced and wipe dalvick, go back
and at mount tab navigate to format system an format it go back and go to flash zip -> flash zip from external sd and flash cyanogenmod and gapps
That's it
Let me know if this helped

It wont work, its stuck on the lg screen:crying:
if you tried to flash plain cyanogen rom over stock ics - it won't work because ics uses the new bootloader so you'll have to repartition your phone to old bootloader using aio toolkit (all in one toolkit)...
or just install some custom cm based roms for new bootloader such as tonyp's or pengus77 ones (follow the instructions on the specific rom threads 1st page)
