Flash Stock Recovery - Sprint HTC One (M8)

Hi all. I have it on pretty good authority that we'll be seeing a 4.4.4 update soon.
I'm currently stock rooted, s-off and unlocked but have twrp as my recovery. I'm curious how I can go back to stock recovery top new ready to accept the upcoming ota.
Thanks in advance.

Quick search for "Return to Stock" took me here: Stock Backups + OTA's
It will literally probably be only hours after release that you will be able to download the update here on the forums. No stock recovery required. Can't wait that long?

What you need is to flash a rom as close to stock as possible (you can find stock backups here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736048 ) and then flash a stock recovery (theres one on here somewhere, if you cant find it ill post one ). Once the OTA comes itll notify you and you can take the update. As long as you're s-off you can then install your custom recovery again and you're good to go.
Im like you i guess, i like to keep an factory OTA on hand myself. Hope this helps.

Official AT&T Vivid ICS RUU from HTC

Downloaded, thank you.
Im going to lose root after this RUU update?
prerequisite:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562890
and the AT&T section included...
Yes you will lose root and you would also need to relock your bootloader as well.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!
Make sure that if you have a custom recovery that is is updated & double check that it is. Write the version numbers down to confirm, both before & after.
There was an early recovery that could not (CANNOT) be overwritten without flashing a modified PH39IMG file first, then flashing stock or new modified recovery.
If you update with your device with that original recovery, you may be very sorry.
Ok so I put the ICS that Pirate put up before he got mad and took it down. Doing what I had to do in order to get that on my ohone, does that, mean I'm already set to use this RUU and get the "official" ICS update if I so choose?
Sent from my HTC Vivid using xda premium
No you need to relock the bootloader in order to use the RUU.
Ok that's what I had thought, just all this talk of different recoveries and stuff started to confuse me lol... Thanks for the help

Stock Vivid and Beyond ICS
After reading some of the posts - I have a few questions.
I have a stock AT&T Vivid. I believe I can just install the following directly - correct?
http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_US.exe
Then after upgrade to ICS -- can some one point me to the correct direction to ROOT and SIM UNLOCK the Vivid after I upgrade to ICS?
Thank you!
Run the ruu...Unsure of which tools exactly are for just rooting youl, have to either call att for a simunlock code or purchase one from online

So, just to confirm, I assume that "YES" I can run the update on stock AT&T (no rooting required) and then after I upgrade to ICS any RUU will root -- nothing special to root ICS?
Thank you!

RUU=ROM Update Utility. These are full builds released from HTC that will NOT have root. A lot of custom ROMs are built from an RUU, but rooted during the cooking process.
thanks works great! a little slow on my virtual machine windows but that's not the ruu's fault, it's my lack of memory. one thing it doesn't tell you is to put it into fastboot mode.
do we know if Rogers Raider can work with this ?
anybody with rogers already flashed this, please confirm.
Look 4 posts up I already said it will only work for att

What do you mean by this? That before I run the ruu, I need to update CWM to the newest version?

Is it safe to update to ICS stock with CWM and root?

I have a Bionic that is rooted, has CWM flashed and is on stock ROM. Is it safe to update to the latest OTA software? I just don't want any repercussions.

You will have to unroot your phone, the ota needs the stock recovery or it will not install. I would also recommend using safestrap instead of CWM. It makes it much harder to brick your phone. The latest version allows you to have up to 4 roms that you can switch between.

Question about rooting

So I'm wondering, if I go ahead and dev unlock and root then I'm going to loose some apps and loose the ability to take an ota, correct? I know that your pretty much doing that anyways to run custom roms but is there a way to add the apps back on so you could take ota?

If you ever felt the need, you could flash an RUU and then take the OTA.

yes and no.
really you could relock the bootloader at anytime and run the stock ruu and take ota's. the only difference is the bootloader will say relocked and tampered. which would really only make it hard for htc to warranty anything
Ok. I've done this a dozen times but this had me thrown for a loop. I'm just wondering if I should wait on doing this or not since I'm expecting a ota to fix some of the problems soon, especially with the home and back button.

in the old days ota's used to wipe everything and reinstall the rom, thus removing root. since gingerbread all they use is patch files, thankfully too. could you imagine a 1.5GB "ota"? it checks the hash of all the files its going to be updating, if it needs to update modem and you have a diff modem then it will fail, if you removed an apk it needs it will fail etc.
its why cwm/oudhs will detect if teh su binary has been altered with permissions and /system/etc/install-recovery.sh as they tend to be teh results of otas
Thanks boy.!

Everytime I tried to flash the ota it failed at the flashing point. I'm thinking it was due to the kernal being changed in my root process. I used OUDHS recovery method. ... Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong which I might be.

If you didn't remove the stock bloat then you'd need to throw the stock recovery back on.

as i explained earlier, the only way a ota will pass while you use custom recovery to flash it, is normally if you have custom recovery and root and thats all. alter system in any way and you risk the ota not going. replacing the kernel is guaranteed way to make them fail, almost every ota ever has included a new kernel update.

Verizon OTA VS98012B don't lose ROOT

Just read on Droid-life that the second update for LG G2 for Verizon has been approved. We aren't getting 4.3 just yet, but a few fixes. I was looking forward to fixing camera issues and that annoying jittery touch screen. Either way if you don't want to take a chance of losing root, tethering or/and if you have a custom recovery installed (TWRP and CWM) then you probably want to wait until the update get broken down so we can apply the update without losing ROOT or custom recovery.
I used Titanium Backup to FREEZE
"Software update MUC 6.4.1_B02-LG"
hit my blog for other LG G2 related stuff.

I'm pretty sure 4.2.2 can be rooted. Its 4.4 that hasn't been rooted yet, on any device. The G2 is one of the lucky few because updates don't kill root.

So being that I have only had the g2 less than a month..and I'm not super familiar with adb, is there a better guide to get root on Verizon?
I have the root on any device, but can't get an adb window to "check devices"
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well you have to make sure the right driver is installed and adb drivers are good. Check USB Debugging. Put USB Connection to ETHERNET, do ADB DEVICES in a command prompt. You should get a popup on the phone asking permission to allow adb.
Pretty easy.
