[Q] Advance Wiped, selected all, screwed myself over - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I've had my HD for a while, and after watching some tutorials, and reading through some things on here, I decided to root. I got TWRP and everything set up, downloaded CM11 and the kk gapps, I even made a backup. and then, like an idiot, wiped my entire device. I've tried pushing files over, but they stay on the screen they should transfer from no matter how long I leave them, and nothing happens. I even made a .txt file with nothing in it and left it for 30 mins because I thought it might be the sheer crappiness of my computer. Nothing. I'm assuming that I deleted something on my kindle that should work as the receiver. I've read talk of mounting it, but it never pops up on my computer. When looking on my computer, and reinstalling my adp drivers, it says that it installed those ones, but that the regular kindle ones didn't work, and it refuses to come up in my computers finder. Can someone please, PLEASE, help me? Trying to root this was stupid and I really regret it now. I'd be content with getting to install the Fire HD ROM again, or the KitKat one.
EDIT: Guys, read this, and pay special attention to the .zip part if you're having my problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929

If you have a fastboot cable you can boot it into fastboot and revert to stock by flashing stock images, then reroot, install twrp, and flash CM11.

[Q] Accidentally wiped rom from Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4g.. help!

Hey everybody, new to the forum.. glad to be here!
Here's the deal.. I have googled and searched xda as well as other forums and can not seem to find the answer I am looking for,,
Here's what happened...
I was running 2.3.6. Used CWM and root zip to root my phone. That all worked fine, but next, like a dummy, I went through and started deleting stock apps and accidentally deleted my Live Wallpapers and Wallpapers. So, I used an app (I feel bad for not being able to remember which one, but in the midst of panic I went into last night, it slipped my mind) to unroot it.
When I did this, the stock apps didn't return. I'm guessing because I didn't back them up. So, next I tried to install Flash2stock, thinking that would get me back to where I needed to be. Well, somehow in the menu, I thought it would be a good idea to wipe the rom and everything else.
So, now when I turn my phone on it will boot to "Samsung Galaxt Exhibit 4g" screen and then just boot loop.
In my googling yesterday, I found a page about using ODIN and how I could use it to flash back to stock with my phone. I tried and tried, but Odin will not recognize my phone. I have the correct drivers installed (as far as I can tell) but no luck..
So, I'm here to ask you root gurus about solutions. Are there other methods to restoring my stock rom and getting my phone working again?
or am I just missing something with the Odin stuff?
Please, please, please help! I thank you so much in advance. Not having a phone sucks!
Try uninstalling the drivers and re-installing the ones from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Exhibit_4G
PS: Have you put your phone into download mode before connecting it to your computer? Volume down and power should get you there.

Thank you for sending me that link. I did not know that I needed a different driver for download mode.. unfortunately both links provided in the wiki page do not work. I am going to google it again and see if I can find them somewhere else.. or if you know of another link that would rule.
And yes I did. I believe I did so correctly. Once the screen with the yellow "!" came up, I pressed the Vol up to get into download mode, then I plugged in my phone, then started Odin. Odin showed the message "Please connect Phone".
I'm running Windows 7 32-bit. And my computer thinks the other driver is called "mtp driver". This is draining, but I am determined to not let a phone beat me
I have done this before, since you have cwm on your phone, all you need to do is download the flash2stock zip to your external sd. Flash via cwm and wait for it to finish, then reboot and let your phone sit for roughly 10 mins. You should be good after that

Thanks again guys. I finally found the srivers I needed and got Odin ti recorgnize my phone.
The method with the sd card would have worked perfectly, but i do not have an sd card reader for my computer. Will definitely be investing in one soon!
When Odin set this guy back up, it install 2.3.5 bavk on here, which is fine because I plan to root and customize anyway.
Any suggestions for kernels/roms i should check out? I have done minimal looking at the ones for my drvice, but intend to.
My main concern is functionality. I need my camera and other apps to work. If they dont, then to me it defeats the purpose.
Also, I do remember the joy os rom that looks like an iphone-ish layout.. Has anybody made one that looks like a windows phone? Ive used the launchers in the past, but it would be cool if there was a rom out there.
Thanks again yall!

If you want a windows phone look you could get Cyanogenmod and install a windows phone theme. Then just get Launcher 8. The theme is pretty extensive and does the whole system. Then just get apps like metro messaging to replicate core apps. Also there is a Windows phone keyboard out there somewhere.

You need to put it in fast boot and reflash the system image.
I can provide more detailed instructions, but if u have a fastboot cable I can guarantee it will go I to fast boot compared to the other method that I haven't had any luck with. Read the post I just made on this thread, same stuff goes for you I just don't feel like retyping it or copying and pasting.

Cheers Stunts.
Think I tried Fast boot but PC didn't recognize the Kindle, but will give it a go.I contacted Amazon about the issue and they have said they will send me a replacement out if I wish,if I send my Kindle back having kept putting it back to Factory settings will they know its been rooted when they check it.

OK I'm slightly confused, so did u get it into fastboot mode? The screen would say fast boot if you did. And if u got it into fast boot, are u saying the PC didn't pick it up at all or just didn't find any drivers it could install for it? Btw, personally I wouldn't send this in to amazon, just because it is entirely fixable and if you ship it in you lose any data you had. By reflashing the system image it should wipe any of your apps or files on the data and SD card partitions.

Hi Stunt.I have tried all ways to get it into Fastboot but no luck.I have followed just about everyones instructions but it keeps coming back to the same screen.Im not bothered about losing my data I can allways load it back on the new one(I wouldn't be rooting that one).I you can think of any way for me I would be greatfull.Allso if I do send it back can they tell its rooted?.cheers Stunt.
Your going to need a fast boot cable then, they are fairly cheap, around 10-15$ unless you decide to make one, but u need a soldering iron, and a wire, that's about it, it is just a solder from pin 4 to v+ on the miniusb plug. Once you plug that into it it will immediately goto fastboot and from their you reflash the system image. Its really easy to do, i had to help my friend over skype do it when somehow he bricked his kindle using fireflash. Wasn't webcamming him to make sure he downgraded the bootloader when he did it...And yes I am pretty sure they can tell its rooted.

Don't forget to check eBay for fastboot cables too - $4.45 for the one I got. There is also someone on the forums selling them (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20380015#post20380015) if you wish to support one of our members.
You'll know it's fastboot -- just like stunts said -- since it will automatically put your Kindle into that mode as soon as it's connected to the computer. Start with it turned off, plug in the cable, and then watch it go into Fastboot mode. Then you need to flash the system.img according to the instructions on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254

Kindle Fire HD 7" Stuck on Fastboot Logo & Multiple other problems

Hi all,
I got really interested in rooting and such my Kindle Fire. However, when I used the tool on here for installing Google Play and its components, my dog accidentally pulled on the cable, disconnecting the Kindle mid-process of the tool.
Tool was this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069329
No however upon boot up, my kindle shows NO ads now. Then when I unlock it, it's extremely sluggish, shows no icons in the carousel, but still recognizes all my personal data and can still be accessed via computer.
I've tried loads of different things to fix it, but to no avail. I've gone into Fastboot mode (Though it just remains stuck at the logo) and when I try these two tools, nothing seems to help fix the problem.
Tools: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428428
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888
Any suggestions guys? Any help will be great. I'd just like to get it back to the way it was.
Ugh I think I vaguely remember what causes this but not well enough to fix it, so what did you do so far, did you reflash the system partition? Because I think this might be in the /data folder in a build.prop but I am unsure, I know the main built.prop you usually see is in the /system folder. This I think has something to do with a qemu property but like I said I hope I am pointing you in decent direction. I will see if I can pull up a similar post and give you a link to a fix.

Thanks for the advice, but sadly I'm unfamiliar with loads of the inner workings, since I was using the automatic coders to get the roms in and etc.
All I really did was start the Tool, hit the number on CMD for applying the Google Play stuff (NOTE: I manually rooted the kindle before hand) then the dog thing happened. Now it's as I've said. I don't own the Fastboot cable either, but I DO get to go to Fastboot Mode (Logo Only) through the tool.
Be careful, I don't know if that tool is from this section of the forum, and some tools from the kf1 section can hard brick your kindle, still looking for the thread BTW.
Edit: I can't seem to find the thread... I don't like recomending doing this since it will wipe all your apps and their data, but do a factory reset from the kindles settings if you can get to it, I think it will fix the problem, not positive.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
I've been looking into it, I may have used stuff for Gen 1 Kindle's, so yeah, that could have been the problem.
Gonna do the factory reset, only thing I haven't tried. Transferring photos. Lady friend may stab me for losing those.
Thanks again for the advice. I'll get back to you with any change.
Ah thanks to soupemagnet he reminded me of what I am thinking of, you need to delete /data/local.prop
Hope you get this before you lose any data.

Thanks for all the tips, go it to work. Sadly I already did the factory reset, and now it's all back to normal.
Any guides out there to get the Kindle to A Full on tablet? I'd be trusting only the ones you send now. Don't want to use a guide for KF1s.
If you mean flashing a ROM of an actual android os, here's the guide for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909
Just make sure that in fire flash you check the box with the red warning text or your kindle will have a red screen of death that only a fastboot cable will fix, also remember to put a copy of the ROM you want to flash and gapps for that ROM on the kindles sdcard before flashing or you might get stuck in a recovery loop depending on your kindle os version. That tutorial also has some ROMs on it you can use, there might be others in the development section its from you can use as well depending on whenever the last time seokhun updated that tut. That tutorial may be lengthy, but make sure you read all of it, that way you make sure you follow exactly what it says to do and reduce your chances of bricking. Its always better to be safe when messing with a locked devices boot loader than sorry.

[Q] Various problems with root and sideloading

Several months ago I wanted to sideload apps (mainly for humblebundle) on my Nook HD so I followed the dummies guide instructions and got it all working, I remember the whole CWM thing coming up first time and it all going swimmingly. I put the little boot sd card away and then somewhere along the line either lost it, or someone in the house swiped it for themselves. So anyway I don't have it now. All was going well and then everything started crashing ALL THE TIME on my Nook HD, so I decided to wipe it as I wanted to put everything on a bigger sd card anyway. I thought wiping it would unroot it, because I don't know anything, but now I realise it didn't, it still comes up with Cyanoboot when booting up, but it has forgotten the side load app stuff I could do, it won't let me install them anymore. But it's definitely rooted, I just have no idea to what version (must be 10 something) because I am able to use link2sd no problem. So I have been trying to recreate the boot sd, so I can flash the sideload app thing and it is not working. I have followed all the steps carefully again and again, and tried on 3 different sd cards, and it will not boot from that little card at all, just boots normally every single time. Is there any other way I can get this one little setting to work? I'm not all that interested in putting 11 on there, just want this one thing to work. Is there a way to unroot the whole lot so I can just try and start over? Frustrating.
Have you tried to boot to internal CWM? If you followed the dummies guide you should have it installed internally. Look at the latest version of the dummies guide for how to set it up to boot to internal CWM.

Can't really figure out what your talking about from all your confusion.
Put cm on there and its one little check box from within android @ device settings -> security -> unknown sources. Everything you did would be non-valid.
If your talking about the offical bn rom, then I have no idea how the rooting effects sideloading.

Ok, I have tried to do this, and it won't. Every time I try it just comes up with a factory wipe question. I even tried downloading an app to boot into recovery, and it just rebooted normally.
Is there a way to just completely unroot easily and start over? Or is there something else I can try? Seems like getting this thing to sideload apps should be fairly simple, but it's not turning out that way.

Sorry for the confusion, I'm confused and frustrated with this.
Basically, my nook hd is rooted. I flashed it so it would sideload apps. All was well. Then all was not well, and I factory wiped it. It is still rooted apparently, but it no longer lets me sideload apps. I no longer have the sd card that I originally rooted it with. I want it to sideload apps. I can't figure out how to make that happen.

That message means you still have stock recovery installed. To easily start over, just interrupt the boot 8 times in a row by hard powering off the device before the boot completes. Hard power off means holding the power key for several seconds until it turns off. On the 9th boot, let the boot continue and it will reset itself to stock the way it came in the box. Then you can start over using the dummies guide.

Thanks so much, I think that worked, after a few attempts it did a different kind of loading while saying nook and didn't say cyanoboot, and has reset itself. Now to try again!

Need Help with kindle fire HD

Hey guys, been using the forums for quite some time now, but this is my first time posting so i just registered an account.
I have looked over the forum but can't seem to find an answer to my issue.
I basically rooted my kindle fire HD but when I came to install a new ROM i ran into some issues.. I followed ALL the instructions on what to do but i think i did something wrong.
When it came to installing the new ROM i was told to wipe everything.. So from TWRP I went to wipe > and then i wiped everything.. But i MEAN everything, so there is nothing at all left on the device AT ALL.. Only TWRP and thats it, no data files or anything. SO everytime i start up it boots into TWRP.
I tried flashing the new ROM using TWRP but everytime i do it doesn't do anything, it says error finding /misc but I read that thats a normal error message.
I've tried flashing a few different ROM's and nothing has worked... I think i may have messed up when it came to putting FireFireFire onto the device using Kindle Fire Utility, am i having this problem because I have tried to install a custom ROM without having FireFireFire...? Or is my device bricked?
Sorry if this is a noob question but I'm not really used to flashing ROM's I've rooted many devices but ive never flashed a ROM before, any help would be greatfully appreciated!
What version of the Kindle Fire HD do you have?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
Im not actually 100%sure to be honest.. i know its old i think its 1st gen
I need a reply please, I might have possibly flashed the wrong ROM for my device but I highly doubt it, to double check how can i check what model and verrsion m device is just by using TWRP?
Does your kindle fire HD have a camera,HDMI port, power button and volume rocker on one edge of the device? Lynker
