Several months ago I wanted to sideload apps (mainly for humblebundle) on my Nook HD so I followed the dummies guide instructions and got it all working, I remember the whole CWM thing coming up first time and it all going swimmingly. I put the little boot sd card away and then somewhere along the line either lost it, or someone in the house swiped it for themselves. So anyway I don't have it now. All was going well and then everything started crashing ALL THE TIME on my Nook HD, so I decided to wipe it as I wanted to put everything on a bigger sd card anyway. I thought wiping it would unroot it, because I don't know anything, but now I realise it didn't, it still comes up with Cyanoboot when booting up, but it has forgotten the side load app stuff I could do, it won't let me install them anymore. But it's definitely rooted, I just have no idea to what version (must be 10 something) because I am able to use link2sd no problem. So I have been trying to recreate the boot sd, so I can flash the sideload app thing and it is not working. I have followed all the steps carefully again and again, and tried on 3 different sd cards, and it will not boot from that little card at all, just boots normally every single time. Is there any other way I can get this one little setting to work? I'm not all that interested in putting 11 on there, just want this one thing to work. Is there a way to unroot the whole lot so I can just try and start over? Frustrating.
Have you tried to boot to internal CWM? If you followed the dummies guide you should have it installed internally. Look at the latest version of the dummies guide for how to set it up to boot to internal CWM.

Can't really figure out what your talking about from all your confusion.
Put cm on there and its one little check box from within android @ device settings -> security -> unknown sources. Everything you did would be non-valid.
If your talking about the offical bn rom, then I have no idea how the rooting effects sideloading.

Ok, I have tried to do this, and it won't. Every time I try it just comes up with a factory wipe question. I even tried downloading an app to boot into recovery, and it just rebooted normally.
Is there a way to just completely unroot easily and start over? Or is there something else I can try? Seems like getting this thing to sideload apps should be fairly simple, but it's not turning out that way.

Sorry for the confusion, I'm confused and frustrated with this.
Basically, my nook hd is rooted. I flashed it so it would sideload apps. All was well. Then all was not well, and I factory wiped it. It is still rooted apparently, but it no longer lets me sideload apps. I no longer have the sd card that I originally rooted it with. I want it to sideload apps. I can't figure out how to make that happen.

That message means you still have stock recovery installed. To easily start over, just interrupt the boot 8 times in a row by hard powering off the device before the boot completes. Hard power off means holding the power key for several seconds until it turns off. On the 9th boot, let the boot continue and it will reset itself to stock the way it came in the box. Then you can start over using the dummies guide.

Thanks so much, I think that worked, after a few attempts it did a different kind of loading while saying nook and didn't say cyanoboot, and has reset itself. Now to try again!

Ok so i've been looking around and trying to fix my nook that's stuck on the "n" boot loading screen and won't go pass that.. I recently used the autonook and just restarted the nook but it froze as soon as my first restart.. Now it won't even turn on it seems like. Anyway to fix this? I've read around but they're all a little confusing, i don't care if i go back to factory either.
I also did a factory reset but it seems like it still gets stuck on the "n" loading screen. I think that's what i did wrong as i probably messed up the loading files.
Do both resets. 8 failed boots ans power+n to boot.
If that doesnt work. download monster's rootpack and my restock to stock zip in dev and flash my restore to stock zip (or newer)..
Its all explained in dev forums.. take tike to read a bit..

I think i'm starting to get it.. One thing though i used a 2GB microSD and i burned CWM on it and i have 114 MB free, i used a 8GB microSD and i still get the same space left.. How would i go around this? I'm trying to flash a zip on after formatting through CWM.
Use the second link on Monster's thread. 1gb image. Then copy the zip file to the root of your SD. Then flash..

Cool, thanks! that helped and brought things back to normal.. I just rooted my NC now and it still has 1.0.1 and i have market and gmail but market won't download any apps.. Can't seem to figure out what's going on.
Edit: Nevermind it doesn't automatically download, i had to go in downloads for it to start. Thanks!! Guess it's not really like an android phone like i'm used to but i've figured it out!
I do have a question though. I'm not planning to flash any roms on this and keep it original, when i download apps from the market. where does it go and can i put it some place or is this only for people who flash?
Ahh i answered my own question. Once i restarted the device it was there under Extras. Thanks again!
Now it seems as if youtube app won't open or play videos on the website.

Use Titanium backup to clear user data .. should be fine .. several threads on this ...
I am rooted on a Sprint One and had stock HTC. Then downloaded the Viperrom 1.0.4 and had no trouble get it on, did not loose any of my settings or folders. Now when I download and try to run the viper 1.1.0 zip, it does the install and starts up shows my walpaper and icons appropriately, then crashes and constant reboots to the same point. Able to get on to recovery and reinstall the back up i had made with no rpoblems.
What do I need to do? If I wipe, what do i wipe? Have TWRP.
Will I loose all my settings and data?
Please help
Under advanced wipe select the first 4(dalvik,cache,system,data).
Then reflash the Rom.
You will lose settings.
Thanks, will try that in the morning.
Is there anyway we can save settings and restore them after upgrades?

I did the same thing as you. Mine got caught in a bootloop, I couldn't get the damn thing to force restart either. The bottom home & back key just kept flashing no matter how long I held it. I had to wait forever for the battery to die. I think something might be wrong with the restart fail safe HTC built in. So I relocked it, flashed back to stock, go to sprint store of course it reboots perfect every time. The people at the store are morons I hate going there. The guy says to me you just hold it down and the restart menu will come up. I'm like if the phone is frozen that doesn't work. None the less I don't expect them to replace something that is working. So I re-unlocked, cleared everything and installed latest build fresh works great haven't had any issue. I didn't back up either so I had to re set everything up which takes forever. I'm not a fan of restoring backups anyway as it can cause issues. I will be doing a nandroid next time and be more careful with dirty flashing. I always dirty flashed on MeanBean on my LTE without issues and Mike made it very clear when dirty update was not advised. In my opinion they shouldn't release a major update that will bootloop a phone over goo manger. It's still my fault but I didn't think twice about it when I tried to update viper. It still pisses me off that I have to fight with it to get the phone to reboot, the entire point of a fail safe is incase something goes wrong. It's the first time I have ever bootlooped a phone.

Thanks all, I am just where I was. so many opinions and would like to have a concensus.
It won't wipe internal unless you specifically check it in advanced. Never wipe internal, but davlic, cache, data and system are fine and constitutes a full wipe..you should always wipe that way when trying different roms or going to a new base. Or use a superwipe script to make things easier.

same problem
ive had the same problem, i actually had to use the ruu to get back to stock, unlocked it again s-off rooted and no matter what i do everytime i install any custom rom it goes into bootloop. ive tried every rom on here i cant even get viperrom to fully boot up. looking thru all the forums nobody has a clear answer as to why this is happening.
im stuck in boot loop after the viper rom and i just got it yesterday .. i dont know what to do at this point . when it does boot it ask me for the wifi login and fails says poor connection when its right next to me
Boot Loop
I'm also stuck in boot loop. I've done research and tried all kinds of stuff with no luck. This is what I get...
Phone boots
I get the notification bar and a black screen
Can't do anything with that.
After about a minute, it reboots.
Can anyone help with this? I have the 1.31 version. Clearing cache/data/delvik does nothing for me.
Can someone help me get it back to stock, or at least usable?
Thanks in advance.

Home and power for 20 seconds is too longtime. Even if it tried to turn on, if would power back off before 20 seconds. Try for 8 seconds, then release power followed by n.
If you make a bootable CWM SD per my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature, you should be able to flash one of my plain stock zips in item 6 there. If you flash the rooted version, it should not successfully update to 2.2.

In reply to my own question. I forced the nook to upgrade to 2.2.0, downloaded the upgrade file stuck it on the internal SDcard and the nook did the rest. Once the upgrade was done root was borked. Rebooted with CWM and flashed with NookHD-HDplus-Universal-Root-rev2-(02.02.13).zip, rebooted and found that root was restored all seems to be working fine at the moment, certainly adaway successfully asked for root permissions and got them to download and update its files. I'll update if I find anything strange going on.

I tested this and if you have universal root rev3, the update fails. If you have universal root rev2 or earlier it will break root. But you can get it back by flashing universal root rev3 again.

To get to internal recovery, from powered off press power and n together for about 8 seconds, then release power and then release n. Don't hold power too long or it will turn itself back off. It will boot to whatever recovery you have installed. Stock recovery looks different and will only ask if you want to clear data. You can do nothing else with it. If you have CWM or TWRP recovery installed to internal memory it will boot to them.

The only reason I did it was that I wasn't aware of rev 3 and didn't want the HD+ to be updating itself on its own whim which, looking at the B&N forums, it seems to be doing, with some mixed results. If I had had rev 3 I wouldn't have bothered. I was hopeful that the crosswords and hulu+ apps had been made uninstallable but they reappear after a reboot. The 'upgrade' seems to be more about B&N offering services than any improvement to the user experience, at least from what I've seen.

Hey guys,
I've had my HD for a while, and after watching some tutorials, and reading through some things on here, I decided to root. I got TWRP and everything set up, downloaded CM11 and the kk gapps, I even made a backup. and then, like an idiot, wiped my entire device. I've tried pushing files over, but they stay on the screen they should transfer from no matter how long I leave them, and nothing happens. I even made a .txt file with nothing in it and left it for 30 mins because I thought it might be the sheer crappiness of my computer. Nothing. I'm assuming that I deleted something on my kindle that should work as the receiver. I've read talk of mounting it, but it never pops up on my computer. When looking on my computer, and reinstalling my adp drivers, it says that it installed those ones, but that the regular kindle ones didn't work, and it refuses to come up in my computers finder. Can someone please, PLEASE, help me? Trying to root this was stupid and I really regret it now. I'd be content with getting to install the Fire HD ROM again, or the KitKat one.
EDIT: Guys, read this, and pay special attention to the .zip part if you're having my problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
If you have a fastboot cable you can boot it into fastboot and revert to stock by flashing stock images, then reroot, install twrp, and flash CM11.
