[Q] Is P1000 still worth buying TODAY?

I'm looking for a Tab, but Transformer seems to big for me. P1000 is the perfect size, but it is pretty old device. Is it still worth buying today?

If you think 7" tablet is a perfect size for you then why not, the Galaxy tab is only 1 year old and it still stands against any other alternatives out in the market today.
I would hardly say just because the tablet is "pretty old" that it isn't a good purchase. It's well supported by developers and the fact that people are still purchasing it... Its a solid working and built piece of kit.
You won't be disappointed.

I would say that they are definitely still worth it. The price point alone is a great reason. You can get a Galaxy tablet for less than half the price of many of the newest tabs.
It's already been shown that these models are capable of running the new firmwares. There are ports of Honeycomb out there already, and though there are still some issues to be ironed out, they work pretty well. Since installing a 2.3.4 rom on my vzw tab, I've been very impressed with how responsive and cleanly it runs.
Having handled some of the newer and larger tablets, I've found that the smaller size is really more ideal to me personally. I can fit my Galaxy tablet in my pocket. My folks for example both have iPads, and they are just much larger and bulkier devices. You can't drop one in your pocket real quick while you are out on the run.

I live in eastern europe and here the tab's price is almost the same as Transformer's. And that one has Tegra 2 and a nice 10.1' IPS display. They are both here 540 USD / 380 EUR. I tried Iconia A500 Tab, but I was quite disappointed - it was very heavy, typing text while trying to hold with one hand was challenging. The OS and that big display sure looks great, but for now I can't see my self taking this out in the street while walking, or chatting (IM) while sitting in the bus on my way college. How much is the P1000 in the US? Or UK?

In the UK, the P1000 (if you can find any in stock) still goes for around £399 and the P1010 is currently in bestbuy/currys for £299.
But search on ebay or other sites, you can find one for a lot cheaper. I got mine brand new from ebay for £250 (P1000).
Of course, these will probably fall in price when newer alternatives comes out but for now, they are holding its value as they are still popular and people are buying them.

I just bought one today. So far I am happy with it.

I have seen the US models selling new for between $150-200 when you buy from a mobile provider. For example, I know Verizon was selling them earlier this year for $200 when you agreed to a two year service agreement. I've also seen the WiFi only tablets for $350. Personally, I was willing to sign a contract, because having the 3g data access was something I desired.
But, I would do as one of the other posters suggested, and check ebay. As I understand it, you can buy a US model and put a European firmware on it. I would double check that though, as I don't want to tell you something I am not entirely sure of.

Got mine a month ago in aussie land, on a 12 month contract. 0 dollars for the tab and $39 a month for the plan with 8g of data and I get 3 months of the plan for free. Was really happy with that price.

Got mine in Italy for 300 Eur. Best purchase of the year: perfect balance between pocketability and readability, and with Gingerbread it is lag free and quick.
Rumours are that Samsung is going to present a revamped 7" tablet w/ upgraded cpu and amoled screen. I won't upgrade unless it has usb host or otg, which is the feature I miss much on my Tab.

N900 - Galaxy Tab 7"

Nothing wrong with the P1000. Good support is important. Even if it's a year old it still beats an ipad. Good resolution and speed, and very complete. Very sturdy, durable Gorilla glass.

I bought mine last month, and I love it. My pocket is not that big to fit in the tab, so I bought a small bag to bring around. I was confused whether buying Galaxy S (for super amoled and small factor) or Galaxy Tab (for bigger screen to read ebooks). Well, its worth buying

I bought one a couple of weeks ago, and am very happy so far. Yes, it's a year old - but the screen is very good (much better than alternative 7" tablets'), it's relatively cheap & there's lots of development going on with it.
The next 7" from Samsung is set to have an AMOLED screen & will probably be dual-core, which will be awesome, but I wanted something now & wasn't prepared to 1) wait & 2) pay much more than I did...
Make sure you root & stick Overcome ROM on it! It becomes a different animal once you do!

Got an Asus Transformer for the home/travel, but day to day chucking in pocket (albeit large pockets), still love the Tab. Got it for 200bucks so can't complain.
If I had to pay full price? I think I'd skip, for that price a newer 7" tablet would still be preferred.
Main thing it comes down to though is where are you, and do you need voice? if so, Tab might still be perfect for you.
It's a good question to ask here, as the answer isn't obvious. Without a tablet, I would, if I had the cash, get the Tab again. It's portability still makes it a winner for me.
Waiting for the next model is ok, but... these things always seem to take 6months longer than initially planned it appears.

When I got the P1000, my standard in speed and responsiveness on android began to change. I began to compare the Qualcomm chipset based androids vs. the Hummingbird of Samsung. The P1000 (and the original Galaxy S Plus which runs the same thing) is really good and even better can match the next gen Qualcomm. See how the original Galaxy S graphics even beats the Galaxy S Plus (newer release), is because of the same speedy setup done before.
The P1000 is a very good device. Really crazy why Samsung shortchanged many unknowing people as they downgraded the P1010 with an inferior chipset and graphics.
Is there already a dual core 7" as good as the P1000? The Dell Streak 7 besides abit more massive has a problem with batt life. Archos I didn't bother to consider. Is there anymore? The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is coming out better (dunno when), but it is not 7". Nothing compares that I know... for now.

I've only had mine for about a week, I bought it second hand for a great price and I love it so far. I use it more than my laptop and my Asus Transformer. I LOVE the size. The 10" tabs you pretty much need to use both hand to hold it all the time, the G.Tab easily in 1. Plus being able to type with both thumbs instead of finger pecking is a HUGE plus.
Yeah, the Galaxy Seven will probably be out in a couple months but if you need one now then it's a great little tab.

I was at the shop today again, played with XOOM and again with Galaxy Tab. Damn its size is just perfect and the screen so detailed and feels high quality. But then I tried to do what I do on My N900 (Maemo 5 OS), and WOW :O IT CAN NOT MULTITASK. I never noticed that! You can not have skype online and browse the web while listening to music. I asked the guy at the shop. He confirmed, just some can "run in the background" but there is no task switcher... Maybe you can make it multitask? On iOS i have backgrounder and Kirikae and it works like a charm, can you do the same on android?

Skype online while browsing the web and listening to music? won't the sound conflict?

Thats not just 5th best tablet. Thats 5th best consumer technology product of any kind and the top pure tablet on the list. Considering CNET's love affair with Apple this is impressive.

Not bad. Quite happy as well with the 8.4 myself after tweaking it a bit here and there. Super AMOLED is mostly the reason I keep getting Samsung stuff, if only other Android based brands would provide Super AMOLED as well and give Samsung some competition, ie LG. I only know LG as the other brand who does OLED products.

Yes. Once you have gone super amoled on an Android device it is hard to go back to LCD. Windows devices allow us to dial down the gamma which gives just as good blacks as amoled, but until Android allows that as well, amoled is your only option for truly black blacks.

Just stopped by BestBuy to look at the Surface Pro 3. Is it just me or does that thing look and feel cheap? Hated how it felt in my hands. Definitely too big for a tablet. And the screen doesn't come close to the Tab S. Super Amoled has spoiled me forever.

Agree. Somehow for me the 8-8.4 size in THE sweet spot for tabs. Got on board with SAMOLED when I bought the original "First" SAMOLED Sammy tab 7.7 a few years back. Got it up to 4.4 (thanks to Civato) and still like to play with it ever so often. Probably will never sell it. I read somewhere the 7.7 was the tab that got Apple all riled up at Sammy...lol! But this Tab S is just perfect!

I really wanted to like the Surface Pro 3 but it just was so meh to me. Plus if you read the forums it has so many problems. Overheating, throttling, wifi drops, pen drops, touch drops. Just couldn't do it.
Even at the higher resolution the ppi is actually lower than the Surface Pro 2.

The Pro 3 isn't supposed to be compared to tablets like the Tab S. It's supposed to be compared to other ultrabooks and high-end laptops like MacBook Pros and Airs.
That being said, I don't think my Pro 3 feels cheap at all. It has a very, sturdy, premium feel to it.
I've haven't compared the screens since I only have the 8.4 and the Pro 3 is so much bigger. I do love the display on the Tab S though.

I'm probably returning my 8.4.. It's slow in all tasks compared to my iPad Air.. battery life just drains when using it.. it gets hot. Android is still clunky on tablets.. iPads still do everything better in my opinion. If only Apple used this OLED panel on their iPads it would be perfect. .
For being the same price as a iPad Mini I don't see how this is a winner unless you have some aversion to iOS..
I know I must sound like a troll but this Samsung is just slow and choppy/lagging just browsing the web and yes i've tried a stripped, clean, deodexed rom as well which improved it marginally. The choice of a slow Exynos over a 801 Snapdragon is likely a reason, for a "premium" tablet and "premium" pricing Samsung went full derp on the CPU choice.
Most of my above complaints are 90% Android's fault, not Samsung.. If Android actually ran natively to hardware, it might actually smoke iOS in terms of smoothness and speed.
I think Android is far suited better to phones still, even after 3+ years of Android tablet history, it's still a bad experience.

I'm in the market for the Tab S 8.4, after reading this, I'm not too sure anymore. Can anyone confirm? I havent used both device neither.

I don't have any of the issues he's talking about, but I have the Tab S 10.5 (32Gb version) though I doubt they are much different performance wise.
In my case, it's as fast as my wife's iPad 3rd gen, but it has less issues than the iPad which was pissing me off quite often lately..
Battery life should last for weeks if not using it (dropping about 1-2% during the night).
Last time I charged it, it was about 3 days on battery, with a bit over 3 hours screen on time, and there was 72% battery remaining.
For me it's more than enough, I guess some people would need more but I'm ok with it.
Performance is great for me, I haven't had any complains.
Sure, there is sometimes a micro stutter, but they are pretty rare compared to my previous Android tablet.
All in all, it's very nice to use, I'm not thinking about the performance of the device when I'm using it, so I guess that means it's fast enough for me

There are sometimes Android related quirks like on phones (an app that crashes, etc..) but nothing that's really annoying, and it happens rarely.
I guess you should try it out yourself though (if using one in a store, be sure to kill everything first, as it most likely is filled with stuff in RAM) before making a decision.
I am probably a bit biased because I don't like the limitations of iOS to begin with (though I was using my wife's iPad quite a bit more than my Asus Transformer Prime for performance reasons, even if I was pestering about things I couldn't do on iOS when using it ), so I was waiting for a good Android tablet, but my wife actually wants to replace her iPad with a Tab S now.. she keeps using it when I leave it at home instead of her iPad.

Indeed, that works fine as well, though I mostly used it to test out the feature, I haven't really had the need to use it, except once when I was too lazy to go get my phone that I forgot upstairs and wanted to check my sms messages

I am been thinking about getting a new tablet hopefully a Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal. I have S4 phone so I love Samsung products but been torn between Surface Pro 3 or the new 10.5 Tab S. After reading few posts here seems a few of you guys been doing same product comparisons. You seem to swaying me to the Tab... .

let's say your going to pay full price or close enough to it.I would get the
"Tab pro" or a Nexus Tablet .this tablet is nice but the chip isn't the best compared to a Snapdragon in my opinion.not a big enough difference in clarity between Amoled and LCD also in my opinion. Oh and the biggest factor and why most of us are on XDA is the overall development

After selling my 32GB Amazon Fire HD 8.9", I also looked at the MS Surface Pro 3 at BB and was not impressed either! You're right, definitely felt cheap and is more overpriced than the Samsung Tab S. Once I saw the display on the Tab S, I was sold. I bought the 32GB 10.5" Tab S mid July and have not regretted the purchase at all!

Could you compare this one to the Tab 4?

Thinking of ditching my Nvidia Shield Tablet and jumping on a Tab S

Title say's it all really.
I bought my Shield thinking game streaming from my PC would be fun, but I hardly ever use it. I expected the Shield to be a killer tablet and although it has plenty of power I'm sick of the bugs, glitches and general lag. The battery is not that great and I find the aspect ratio and size a little bit annoying. To be honest it's been a bit disappointment.
I just recently upgraded my phone from Galaxy S2 (I know old) to a Galaxy A5 and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with with Samsungs updates, my phone feels way smoother and nicer to use than my shield, so much so that I'm thinking of selling it and getting a Tab S, most probably 10.5. I've been reading and watching plenty of reviews and I'm liking it more and more.
What do you guys think? Should I jump ship? I think I'm basically looking for some reassurance that it's a good thing to do! lol

i saw the nvidia shield and i really didnt care for it at all.. it was quite big for what it does and didnt seem special at all.. you can do the same and more with a tab s and the screen is a lot larger and its a ton lighter.. i do have the t807v which isnt rootable but i use it as a media/gaming tablet and it lasts for a long time on a full charge. it is snappy even though the t807v doesnt have root..
with that being said, id say it depends on which version you get since a rootable tablet clearly would make it even easier for you to decide.
i use ps4 remote play on the tablet and it works great (even without pairing a ps4 controller)

I'm used to having tablets with a 10" screen, so the Shield was a bit of downgrade in that area. Also after looking at the lovely screen on my Sammy A5 the Shield looks pale and a little washed out in comparison.
I'm annoyed with the Shield as it seems like an effort to have to get things working, and the lag is really bad at times. On my Galaxy A5 everything just works as it should and I don't really need to tinker that much. I'm also quite enjoying touchwiz, it's improved a lot since the days of my Galaxy S2, and TBH I'm quite sick of vanilla android, I always root and install custom firmware on my devices, and it's the reason why I've managed to keep my S2 going for so long, but touchwiz actually feel's like a breath of fresh air at the moment. But I'll probably end up installing custom ROMs on my phone/tab in a year or so anyway (once I tire of touchwiz).
I'd definitely want be rooting my Tab S if I were to get one, so I'll have to avoid the t807v. How many different version/models are there? I'm in the UK so will that make a difference to any region specific versions?
Also how long does the Tab S take to charge? The Shield takes between 2-4 hours to get a full charge, but my new phone the Galaxy A5 went from 3% to 80% in about half hour so I'm pretty impressed.

Go for it ! And the Tab S 10.5 has a really good battery life

I actually went for the 8.4, compared side by side with the 10.5 and I found the 8.4 much lighter and comfortable to use.
The screen and battery size difference weren't a deal breaker for me. All other specs are the same.
Make sure your new Tab arrives in a sealed box, and with a charged battery.
If your battery is next to none or empty, it may be unable to use it's full capabilities.

I'd definitely want be rooting my Tab S if I were to get one, so I'll have to avoid the t807v. How many different version/models are there? I'm in the UK so will that make a difference to any region specific versions?
Also how long does the Tab S take to charge? The Shield takes between 2-4 hours to get a full charge, but my new phone the Galaxy A5 went from 3% to 80% in about half hour so I'm pretty impressed.

There's an T805 which is an international one but has little development (CM based roms and such) and if you play games and such, the tab s sends to get warm near the camera. There is an SM-T800 (10.5 wifi), SM-T700 (8.4 wifi) and so on. Typically it takes 2-4 hours to charge fully, but I don't keep track so around that. There's no quick charge for us ?
You could wait a bit as new tablets are coming out this summer. So you might see prices go down ?

The one I was looking to get is the T800, is that one and to root?

Well i have one now... went and bought it from the local store!
I have 45 days to see if I like it, already rooted and so far so good

For what its worth, I had the Shield for a few months, just returned it and got an 8.4. The Shield was good for gaming but suffered from lag after lollipop hit. Wifi was bad as well. I was willing to live with it until a crack appeared in the volume button area. I then gave up and got the 8.4.
I'm learning to live with Touchwiz - its not terrible. The rest of the tablet runs smoothly.

I like the shield, but I hardly ever use if for gaming, I bought the control pad and game streaming wasn't as fantastic as I thought it would be.

The A5 has mediocre specs and screen. If you are impressed with the A5 you will be blown away by the Tab S.

I know the A5 is only mid range, but I'm really happy with it. It had the right specs and performance that I was looking for and within my price budget.
I have the Tab S now (typing this from it) and so far so good, it's taking me a little while to get used to going back to a bigger screen but it is beautiful to look at (especially compared to the Shield Tablet).
I'm rooted and looking for a good ROM and possibly lollipop.

I guess that's all that matters. I probably would have picked up a used S4 or something on Swappa. Anyway you will love your Tab S, 10.5. I purchased mine the first day they were available. I am rooted but I have not installed a custom ROM. This is my first Android device I have not installed a ROM. So far, especially with Lollipop I am happy with it the way it is. That may change down the road if someone makes a ROM that has a significant improvement on performance.

I think I'm on my 6th, maybe even 7th android device now! I'm just looking at the stock lollipop Roms, deciding whether to try one out or wait for the official UK one from Sammy.

I had the Shield Tablet LTE. It did everything well but the battery couldn't last me over 6 hours on average. I was envious of my friends having the Tab S with their beautiful Super AMOLED screens. Finally, I decided to trade it in for a Tab S 8.4. I love the Tab S and so far it's done everything that the Shield could do. It's performance on gaming isn't up to par with the Shield but otherwise everything else is equal if not better than the Shield tablet. I'm glad the battery of the Tab S 8.4 could last me close to 9 hour on average.

Well so far I'm loving 10.5 Tab S, I'm rooted and running Lollipop 5.0.2. The screen is amazing and I much prefer the size over the 8 inch Shield, the colours are really vibrant and it's light and really thin, it's a joy to use.
Like you said, it's not quite as good for gaming as a shield but to be honest I don't care, I don't think hard core gaming on a small device is really that impressive so I'll stick to my PC for that.
My Shield is all packed up and ready to be sent back to Amazon today, to be honest I'm happy to see it go and I don't regret my decision at all!

I can't find an alternative phone to replace my beloved N6

I've had this phone almost 2 years now. It's a beast, I love the big screen, it's fast and it's pure android. The other day I was thinking if it was time to replace and upgrade to a new phone and did a bit of research. I have a budget so nothing too fancy or any latest releases. So had a look at Mate 8, Mate S, Huawei P9, OnePlus 3, Lg V10, even 6p.
To be honest nothing wowed me. Similar specs, maybe few plus sides but nothing made me go 'ok that's it'. Maybe the fingerprint scanner but I'm not fussed really.
So anyone in the same boat let me know if you've find any good alternatives or are you waiting for Pixel phones. I'm interested if anyone else is looking for an upgrade.
My other option is to wait another year once the Pixel phones go cheaper and upgrade to Pixel XL.
So let me know what you guys think..

I hate Samsung. I'd rather to buy a Nokia 5110 then a Samsung! Are you waiting for Pixel phones to upgrade?

Awaiting pixel xl and Honor 9 to see if I give up my N6. If they don't wow me, I'll just keep the N6 until something does.

i can't use a phone without Amoled big screen
i love nexus and i bought nexus 4 and 5 and 6 and 6 is the best of them
but i don't like htc to be honest
imo the screen is the most important thing in any phone
that's why i recommend Samsung
s7 edge is awesome and dont judge this phone unless you have used it first

I don't really have high hopes for Pixel XL really. I reckon if I want to upgrade 6p is going to be my choice as the price will drop once Pixel is launched.

I'm in the same boat as you, I really wanted to upgrade to the Note 7 despite my hate for TouchWiz, but there are launchers to fix that. Until that whole battery explosion fiasco happened around the same time my contract ended so I decided to hold off for the Pixel phones. I guess I will know for sure next week, if the Pixel lineup isn't any good then I might get the Note 7 or S7 Edge.
If not I could wait for Samsung's new galaxy lineup, which will be announced early next year

That explosion thing totally put me off too. I don't think I can afford a Samsung at the moment anyway looks like my best bet is either wait for next year and buy cheaper Pixel XL or buy 6p now and use it next 2-3 years.

The 6p is pretty nice. I have a N6. Got a 6p used. I like good audio for podcasts mostly. I watch hours of video at work. Both running Pure Nexus. Very snappy. Its a tossup . I like them both equally. Got a 5x for the kid. She loves it.

there's nothing coming up that I feel is an upgrade across the board, I got the shamu on launch day and was also expecting to pick up a pixel but its been a let down so far with design/specs/price
I'm thinking maybe catching a 6p on fire sale price around thanksgiving or new year, or going with the cheaper midrange chinese oems(oneplus 3/saxon 7) depending on development support
all meh choices so there's a good chance I'll stay put with this device into next year

Why replace it? If you want new device, keep your beloved N6 and buy new one someday I personally can't live with only one phone, there are too many awesome devices out there (in my opinion). But if money is the problem and you need to sell N6 in order to be able to buy a new one, then it's a whole different story and understandable

I can't anything that wowed me like my n6. I would like a op3 but with the lack of band 13 for verizon, and my area is covered with it. I'm stuck with verizon for the most part, only have coverage with most of the rural area I live in. Sprint roams off verizon, the nearest tower for tmo is 15 miles away and I live in the mountians. ATT has the 2nd best coverage, but doesn't have service in my house, and it a lot of areas I go to. I used to be a samsung fan until they started with the knox crap, after my s3, I have never had an samsung device again. I was a fan of Motorola, until Lenovo took over. Looks like I'll be sporting my n6 for a while. At my work, I've actually been pushing the n6 for people to buy them lol

Well, my phone buying pattern has been like this;
Palm Treo 650, 2004
HTC Dream ADP1, 2008
HTC Vision, 2010
Samsuck Relay, 2012 (first and LAST samsuck I will ever buy)
Nexus 6, 2014.
Note the pattern: update when there is something WORTH updating to. For a little while, that was a 2-year cycle. THIS cycle will go longer, since this N6 is still perfect. Should have seen the condition of the palm treo when I was done with it -- the lots-of-pins plug was removed, had a capacitor sticking out the bottom of it, and a custom charging plug, a couple of resistors soldered onto the inside near the battery. That 2004-2008 range was REALLY desolate, sure wasn't going to buy RIM or FRUIT junk.
I will be buying my wife a Pixel XL to replace her N5, and sticking to the N6 for myself. Why? Well the pixel XL will have a better SoC, but not *so* much better that it will have ANY impact on my life.
As far as the 6p goes, straight across the board, it is either equal or LESS than the N6.
Screen: less
RAM: equal
CPU: less (the SD810 is definitely NOT as good as the 805, it was just adequate for them to be able to bump the number to say "64bitz!!!", which won't actually do any good in a phone).
Not that the 6p is a terrible phone or anything, but I already have something slightly BETTER than it, so it would be stupid to get one.
Actually, my N6 recently suffered a... mishap. Got some impact thanks to a 2 year old, that even with a ballistic maxx, caused a couple of cracks in the digitizer, and SHATTERED the AMOLED. Yeah, it was worth buying a new screen for it. TOTALLY worth it.

Is s7 much different then s6?

No much... But sure I want to say screen dimentions and price. Ive had a Note 2....fantastic !! Now, I have a N6 and my girlfriend a Note 4 . Note 7...isnt the right time to buy it.... Sorry but...I prefer turn back to Samsung.

I'm in the same boat, was kinda waiting for the Lenovo Phab Tab 2 Pro, but it has been delayed till 'this fall'.
Don't want to go back to much in screen size, so i'm undecided for now....

Totally agree!! Tab s 8.4 is my tablet for years now. I am bothered that I can't find a perfect rom for it to flash (some things do not work on each rom) but no matter how ofter I search for a replacement, I always go back to my conclusion: There is no tablet like this! And sometimes I wonder why Samsung made such a GREAT table THAT early. Even the next ones (Tab S2, S3 etc) are not THAT much of a leap forward. Either poor battery, or lower screen quality, or no IR etc etc... So currently I stick with my beloved Tab S 8.4.
Now...to find a new rom......

Well, S3 was a big leap forward in terms of SoC, but with its 600 dollar MSRP, what a poor value it was. And the S4 was good, but pricing completely mad. For that much money I can buy an entry level business class ultrabook. Tablet is great for media consumption, reading, and entertainment, but let's admit it's kind of a toy, it's not a business tool, and for what they offered the successive Tab S-line models were ridiculously overpriced. My Tab S 8.4 does feel kind of slow and I guess I could replace it when I see a tablet for better specs that's priced right, perhaps a heavily discounted Tab S4 during the holidays.

Well, for me a tablet IS a business tool as I use it twice a week (or more) for talks and presentations. And furthermore I like the 8.4" size and am not fond of bigger screens. Unfortunately Samsung doesn't release any decent small-sized tablets anymore. All the good stuff (RAM, CPU etc) exist on the bigger S3, S4, S5. The 8-inch-sized S and S2 were the only ones that did the trick for me. And currently upgrading to an S2 is not a good idea I believe. My (older) S 8.4 has better screen resolution, bigger battery, IR support... So yeah, I stick with it, for a little while at least. I really hope Samsung releases a smaller Tab S5 or (future) S6 (If that is even a thing) on a 8" form factor. I would really like to upgrade this sometime. Huawei is still making nice high end tablet with 8 inch screen (Mediapad M6), but sadly because of trade war, we're not going to see it on our shores.

I replaced my T-800 with the Tab S4 when Best Buy was blowing them out at $260 or less this past Christmas.
While my Tab S was very sexy and I had the Logitech Type S keyboard I loved it very much it was a no brainer upgrading at that point.

I just sold off my T-800 in perfect shape, I do plan to hold onto my T-700 as Samsung just does not make sexiness like that any longer.

Hi guys I recently tried to understand whether it was possible to replace my Tab S 8.4 LTE and... I'm astonished. Android tablets are dead. I paid 350€ for this tablet at launch so taking into account 6 years of technological development I was expecting to find at the same price the following specs: 64-128gb of storage, 8gb of ram, same screen since oled technology had some troubles advancing, modern high end processor, a camera with not necessarily more pixels but with less noise and more details, no IR because we don't use TVs anymore.
What I found instead was: crappy low end overpriced tablets, with barely any ram, and no advancements whatsoever in productivity applications. The obvious choice would be to go for an x86 Windows tablet... But I don't dare to run Windows with less than 16gb of ram (any browser uses 5-6gb of ram to begin with with my usage scenario) and onestly those tablets have poor battery life and there are no small tablets to begin with. This leaves only the ipad mini... Which I had terrible experience with (ipad mini 2 was dropped from support and update very quickly and became slow as hell with the last updates it received).
Do you guys have any suggestion? Huaway is out of the question... I don't want to be caught in a stupid useless war.

There is no suitable replacement. I use mine as a phone and there is just nothing with as large a display that has an earpiece that you can hold up to your face and make calls with. I now own 3, 2 working, so I have spare parts as bits break.

Actually that is a usage scenario that happened a couple of times. My phone was temporarily down (anything from a bricked rom to a simply drained battery) and I always simply took the sim out of it, stuck into the tablet and continued my day with no problems whatsoever. Before buying this tablet I was super into the Asus transformer line. A phone that you insert in a screen that becomes a tablet with additional battery life, then you attach the keyboard and bump in terms of productivity. They where unreasonably costly to begin with had bad software support, and super died probably because the company got more money selling separate devices. I tried to create my own version of it with a raspberry pi but it was obviously very clunky.

i have the ORIGINAL keyboard that locks into the tablet... i loved this keyboard since it came out! such an awesome design...

Hi There is no replacement to our beloved tablet except for the Huawei Mediapad. Chuwi does make a very compelling android tablet with keyboard... but it is way bigger than the Tab S 8.4.
If you don't mind a slightly shorter screen-on time with your current battery you can change the CPU governor to something more performing. That coupled with a thermal mod gave a totally new life to my tablet (I was close to trashing it before these 2 things together). Now its running so great that I'm tempted to buy a new battery ( or 2 batteries hacked up together) and go on with it for a couple more years.

Hi yes I'm using the latest Lineage OS Deathly (android 7.1). The rom is probably close to its EOL since there is much less activity and updates. ROM. I've undervolted the tab and put an aluminium bar on the SOC to stop it from overheating... I would not describe the experience as high end but it's way better than before. The same developer made roms also for the WIFi only model and for the 2 bigger models.
