Ok, just to get this out of the way, I am an idiot.. Many points in this post will verify this fact. I apologize in advance, but sincerely appreciate any help.
So, this issue started badly and has gone down hill from there. I will try to go step-by-step with what has happened and will probably use too many words because I usually do.
To start, I have an HTC Vivid, rooted with the Vivid All-in-One Root Kit V2.2. When I got the phone nearly 2 years ago, I rooted it as soon as I got it out of the box and the root went flawlessly. I am still on stock ICS 4.0.3 and HTC 3.6. I have CWM Recovery 5.5.0.4.
While on vacation last week, my phone was being buggy. Shutting off, taking forever to reboot and once rebooted if you touched in less than 5 minutes, it died again. It has done this in the past but was getting worse. So, Monday night, having just got back from vacation, and utterly exhausted, I decided it was a fine time to move some media files that should not have been on my phone storage to my sd card. I grabbed the DCIM file in ES Explorer and moved it to ext-sd folder. In my tired state, I did not realize I was not moving it to the right area. I fell asleep while it was transferring.
I woke up the next morning and saw some type of notification from ES Explorer, but was running late to get the dog from the kennel, so I dismissed it and ran. While at the vets, I realized my text message tone had reset to default. I went back home and looked and all my vacation pictures and videos from Sunday and all my ringtones were gone. So, I start trying to find my pics and ringtones on my phone and it starts crashing again. At this point, I can't get it to stay on for longer than 5 minutes. I could get the phone to behave if I mounted as a disk drive on my PC, so I copied all the internal and sd files to a folder on my desk top.
After working on things for hours, at my husband's advice, I did a factory reset. I opted to do this from CWM. I thought I had been backing everything up on Titanium (nope, apparently not. I thought I had it backing up all user apps and system data). So, since I didn't have a proper Titanium back up, I reinstalled all the folders from my desktop back to my phone. In the past, when I have done this (long time ago, first phone I rooted, then when changing phones), the phone was restored exactly like it was before. This time, nope.. Several pictures still gone, SIM card wiped of all phone number data (have no idea how), call logs and text messages gone. APP data gone..
I used Disk Digger to find the missing photos and videos which have now become corrupted. (I am hoping to be able to restore them, we'll see). I also found my downloaded ringtones. They were fine.
So, then I start trying to restore my phone to how it was before, but nothing was working. I looked at the files I transferred and can see all the information is in there, but not loading correctly. I had my phone numbers backed up to Google, but even though I had them set to sync, none of the numbers I had on my SIM card were on the Google contacts list. Well, several factory resets and idiot moves later, I have managed to delete a system file or two by mistake. I can't even make a phone call at this point.
Here's what I need to find out:
I know I probably need to reflash the ROM. I want the ROM to remain stock 4.0.3, because I like it like that. I still have the All-in-One Kit and all it's associated files on my computer. Can I run the Vivid All-in-One again starting at a different step since it is already rooted? Can I just go to the "extras" menu and select Flash Factory RUU Zip, or should I do what I saw on this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836. I have Odin on my PC as well. Should I reinstall from there?
Once I have restored my ROM, is there anyway I can restore my phone to the state it was in Monday night before I screwed everything up. So sorry for the long post, but I figured the more details the better. I truly appreciate any advice. I know I have pulled some seriously stupid mess ups here and just need some help.
ETA:
I found I was backing up w /Titanium correctly, but forgot to mention after ES did whatever it did, my sd card was completely wiped as well. I did not move anything or format my SD card.. Apparently ES or whatever was wrong with my phone did. I had my Titanium set to back up to some cloud, but don't remember the settings.. (Again really, really stupid of me.)

No... Odin is for Samsung phones...
Yea you should RUU...
While your at it... Ditch CWM for TWRP... Even if you don't use recovery all that much...
The only way to put the phone back to where it was... Since you don't have a nandroid backup is to change the settings yourself...

Well, after 5 days of fighting, only after I put my business online for all to see, I found my back up from Titanium!! It had been moved to a subfolder of a subfolder that I had looked in multiple times before. Ran it and phone has been restored including system files. It's back running normally now!
Lessons learned:
Do not decide after vacation and after driving for several hours to move files on your phone. You will mess it up!
Only after you have written an overly long post will you figure out what you did and fix it and feel even dumber than before..
Many, many thanks.
BTW, I am a bigger fan of Titanum than ever before. I can't how perfectly it restored everything, down to what panels I had my different apps on.

Hi all,
I have searched around and found no answers.
my tilt was acting up a little so i decided to go back
to my previous best setup of all files.. so i ran my backupfiles (3 month old)
as this one had the right type of files I needed.
When I ran it, it did its thing and when it restarted it said that storage memory is full and some programs may not be able to function.
and ever since I haven't been able to use my tilt.. nothing functions.
I called up the ATT guys (2 AM LOL) and they were like, this is a fone problem and you'll have to take it up with the warranty guys to get it replaced.
I was wondering if there was anything I cud do to stop that replacement as this fone has gone thru a lot of modifications and I dont' wanna lose it!
Don't sound like a hardware issue. If you hard reset your phone and do not load your backup do you get this error? Or does this only happen when you try reinstalling from the backup?
If the backup was done from a different ROM it could be whats causing the problem.
If its happening right after a hard reset without you installing anything then its probably the device.
Check whether you have a recording file in main memory
This could have happened if you accidentally pressed the record button and created a large recording.
These files are usually stored in main memory.
It happened to me a lot in my AXIMS.
You can check by using start-settings-system-memory and there's an option to check which files are eating up your memory.
Another way would be to use the built-in file explorer and goto to the PPCs root directory and check there (or in MyDocuments).
no the backup isn't at fault.
I used this previously and it worked fine.
This time I installed the sprint version of the HTC today plugin and I wanted to get rid of the original HTC today plugin .. removed the HTC today plugin, did a soft reset, and all my data vanished (contacts/calendar details and stuff)..
so I decided to restore my backup which should have restored everything that I lost.
When the loading finished, it said that storage memory was low, and since then I haven't been able to do anything with the fone.. can't even do a hard reset.
It doesn't even respond to a USB being plugged in to re-install the ROM.

Have you tried a hard reset using the soft key combination? That should work regardless of any memory issues that would prevent you from getting to Clear Storage under Settings.
that's what finally worked.
It hit me at 4 in the morning
that there is a manual way
of doing a hard reset without
re flashing ..
thanks for all your interest peeps!
stock rom and everything, just no bloatware.
this morning it worked perfect, about 2 hours later is all retarted.
1)the backlight is dim and doesnt get as bright as its supposed to unless i plug it in
2)when i slide the phone open the screen doesnt flip the other way
3)getting multiple "cannot execute" errors of clocknot.exe, repllog.exe, calnot.exe. these pop up and i have to click OK 20+ times and less than a minute later they came back on again. actually now i cant even get them to go away.
4)i left my phone alone for a while after realizing something was wrong with it and when i came back to it was just constantly vibrating, i dont know for how long but it killed 60% of my battery.
software i installed is just your basic stuff, tomtom, touchflo cube, htc touch dialer and touch today setup, htc home customizer and battery status and i think thats pretty much it.
anybody have any idea on what might have happened? like i said, the phone worked perfect this morning. i put it down, went a swim, came back and it wasnt working right so i did a soft reset and it didnt fix anything. i put it back down, took a nap, came back and it was vibrating and then i did another soft reset and thats when i got all the error messages. so i did another soft reset and still doesnt want to work.
wait, now for some reason it seems to be OK after another soft reset. I DONT GET IT.
so now i received and sent a text message and then closed the phone, it locked and turned the screen off. i then put it on the charged and the screen wouldnt turn back on now matter what button i pushed. but the lights on top blinked and when i opened it the keyboard lit up. so once again....another soft reset
you probably should hard reset your phone. but be aware that it will erase evrything on ur phone and return it back the way it was, so backup ur info
Yes, I second that. Make sure to back up your data before hard-resetting, though, as you will lose it all (contacts, files, everything).
To hard reset the phone, press and hold the two soft keys (buttons on the front that have a dash on them; next to the send and end buttons) while pushing the stylus into the reset hole in the bottom. If you do it correctly, a white screen will come up asking you if you want to do this, and just follow the steps until it is finished.
Please post back and tell us the result.

Use the latest version of "SPB backup" to backup all data before you hard reset and you restore the all applications after a hard reset or even a ROM Upgrade.
P.S: I don't work for SPB... I just like the software

Don't just back everything up as you may just re-introduce the problem on restore!
Back up your contacts and volotile data only (sync it with Outlook if you use it).
Hard reset and then install 1 app/util at a time and test the device each time to check stability.
Hang on a second...
Before you hard-reset...
Open your favorite file explorer application (I use GSFinder, but the default WM6 File Explorer should be fine), and browse to the Storage Card folder. If there's more than one, keep reading.
I store lots of applications on the microSD card itself, and I often take the card out of the Tilt, and put it into a card reader for faster file transfer. Sometimes, this results in the Tilt thinking I have multiple microSD cards when I put it back in. I haven't quite nailed down what causes this (I haven't searched, either, the answer might be on XDA-dev somewhere).
The end result is, the Tilt is looking for stuff that isn't in the /Storage Card folder. Instead, the phone recognizes the card as /Storage Card2 or /Storage Card3.
I have run into the EXACT same problem you've got, with the same errors. Every time, I've been able to correct it by removing the physical card, and then deleting all the /Storage Card (1,2,3) folders that are still on the phone.
After you do that, just insert the card again, and it will be recognized as simply /Storage Card without any numbers after it. Now the applications will work properly, as WM6 will be looking at the right folders.
ok sorry, havent been back on. phone was working great until last night and then it started acting up again. after multiple soft resets it started working fine again this morning.
there is only one storage card listed so thats not my problem but thank you for the idea.
looks like ill just take any stuff of the phone i want when i get home and do a hard reset. do they replace these phones for software issues with a stock ROM?
happened again, should i try to see if they will replace the phone?
anyone know if i need to call to do that or do i need to go to a certified at&t place?
If you are using the Stock ROM and have performed a hard reset and it still has problems then return it under warranty.

There are no more certified ATT places around here, everything is by phone and mail. If it is still under warranty thats what I would do if you are unsure of it's long term condition.
i am still stock ROM. it locked up on me again yesterday and i did a hard reset. hopefully it wont happen again. i dont feel like customizing my phone from scratch yet again
I decided to use titanium backup to move my apps to my ext.sd card. I've never tried before. Out got almost all the way done and just stopped making any progress.
I pressed the back button and everything seemed fine. I had a notification that tibu was stopped bu user or something along those lines. I checked my ext.sd card with es file explorer to sed of any of the apps were moved and they were not.
Then I the problems started. Data connection was hit and miss and the whole phone was just over all laggy and buggy. I did a reboot with extended power menu and upon reboot the first thing I noticed was that adw didnt launch. Hit hit the home button and didn't get the option to launch it. I went to the app drawer to have a look and low and behold almost all of my apps are gone. I tried launching the market to redownload the xda app to get some advice and it lidded fine. I got to the page to download xda and hit the button. Then hit the install button and it just greyed out and did nothing. I rebooted and tried again and same problem.
is my only option to revert to a saved backup on my pc or what? Reflash my rom? Its serendipity 6.4 btw. Why did all my stuff disappear after the first reboot? Thanks for sticking around for the long read.
Morning Bumpster. Let me also add that even tho tibu shows my lost apps to install them if I try to do so it won't. Progress bar doesn't move. Sounds like I'm gonna need to use a backup. I would like to know what went wrong tho so I can avoid it un the future.

so it must be a ridiculous situation and has been answered a quillion times since zero out of 84 viewers have any input. or maybe all those views are just me checking for replies.
Response, IDK if it will help, just an experience......
I was using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076724 and then chainfires app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 ) and every reboot, i would loose all installed apps, it sucked.
There is an app in the market that BU's ur apps in the APK format(I think, its been awhile since i used it)
I was also using the OFFICIAL 2.2 rom and RYAN Lagfix and i accidently deleted a file and caused so much trouble for me(no lockscreen, home button didnt work, laggy as hell.... it sucked becuase my computer started freaking out and wouldnt recognize it so i was stuck with that for like 3 months....
thanks for the reply. seriously. im curious of your phone had problems unmounting external sd card. mine does. it wont do it. freezes for a few then says it and the phone are unresponsive.. im looking into that now. if i were to restore from a backup do i have to go back to stock, wipe and reflash just like if i were installing a new rom? never had to restore from a backup before. or do i just restore and it overwrites whats already there?
Hello everyone, thanks for taking the time to read my thread. i'm really having a hard time here. I'm trying to take pictures, but it has become so unstable, and I can't reply. and it keeps saying i don't have any space in my SD. I've NEVER had this problem with my other ROM/Default.
There are 2 SDs, one is the one i bought and put it, so i can put all my music and i thought the other i would be able to have it for pics and other stuff. But I can't see it. i've taken out so much music to try and make space (like 10 folders/albums). But it's still saying it doesn't have enough space.
I'm right now rooted. used ClockworkMod then installed CM10 I believe. or CM11 and right now i'm running android (I went from a 2.3.6) to 4.1.2. on an SGH-T679 and the ROM is CyanogenMod version, Build date Apr 2, 16H EDT 2019, CyanogenMod version 10-20130402-UNOFFICIAL-Ancora_tmo. I hope that's enough info.
So I'm guessing if anyone from these forums. Has anyone been through this? Or has heard of someone else having problems. Because my #1 thing is just walking around NYC, taking pics. But when I can only walk around and like take 3 or 4 pics. i'm like :crying: all day. And i don't have the $ to just buy a camera like that.
P.S. and since yesterday, It takes longer to load the battery while charging unlike before. I thought that it was weird. But then to waste/discharge the battery.
Thank you
This may or may not solve your problem, sometimes there are hidden files that stay on your internal storage and eat up all your room. In your file manager enable hidden files, then look for things you can remove. One of hem right off the bat would be .thumbnails, I'm sure there are more but honestly you have to look around your storage, there may be old downloads or cache files that are still there. Hope this helps.
I think i flashed my ROM, data, cache, dalvik-cache and I think data was the last one. and since i've done that. I can't start my phone. It says samsung. then the samsung cyanogenmod start up screen, and it just hangs there. can anyone help me with this pls? I pressed
start button + down volume button. Then it says that it's going to download the OS for me. But i think that just hangs too cause it takes a while. and then it goes back to the start up screens that won't go anywhere.
Thanks D'vari, but unfortunately i think i'm passed that. Now i need to know just how to start my phone and get it past the phone.
You probably have conflicting data somewhere. Try power + volume up. That should get you into recovery. Then wipe everything except system and you should be able to boot up.
It took so long, because i read somewhere else to press vol down + power button. so i was trying. And It got me into Odin, and that said an OS is important, do you want to dl an OS now? so i said, well, i don't think i even have one left, so i chose yes. then it would say it was downloading for hours. but then it would boot up into the boot up screen loop. which was kind of good, but i didn't think so at the moment. Then i read how to get into cwm in my phone. so then i did it, and i had to do an advanced restore before regular restore was coming back MD5 mismatch. So It's like i flashed my old system, restored it to factory cyanogenmod factory. Tomorrow i'll flash cm10 and google apps and something else that had swipe working on this phone. maybe it was just upgrading to CM10, because now it's in version 9 and swipe is not working.
Thanks for your help
cyanogenmod issues as well
I had the same issue last week when updating to 10.1. but it did say that it may take a while to boot up. I didn't stress it. I just plugged it in by my bed and went to bed. when I woke up the next morning, I had it!
I did the volume up/power-wipe clean-reboot and then I slept. give that a try. maybe you are just like me and worrying that it is taking too long and you have F-ed up your phone!
On a different note, this 10.1 is awesome. But I can't get it to recognize my sd card. it does show that one is mounted but wont save anything and wont let me access the files. I have wiped the sd card clean and formatted to fat32. but that is doing nothing for me. any other suggestions here? I need my music and the space! this is taking so much time, it almost isn't worth the effort. but I love the cyanogenmod 10.1. but can't keep if it wont work right. ???

I'm using pac 4.2 and I can switch were I want my pics stored from the camera settings maybe that ROM would help your situtation.
Thank you for all your help. But i decided to switch over to JellyBean. But i've been having some minor problems with it. I just flashed this ROM after doing something stupid in CWM (as you all know) while using cyanogen. I actually really like this ROM. I though CM10 futuristic looking. this beats that by a lot of points. I just have a problem now. The icons in the apps menu/section, are spaced too far apart. IDK what I did to cause this. Cause i was messing with those options of icons rows and colums for the desktop, but i set it back to default and that still didn't do anything to the apps section.
The other problem I'm having is with the camera. I try to open it, but it just says camera can't go on, 'wait-report-close'. That type of message. IDK what it is because the main reason for switching was to be able to take lots of pics. I love taking pics with my phone. And i found out what had my internal memory soooo clogged up. I had a .txt music cache file that was 848MB. Once I erased that, I know have 50% free space.
It looks really retarded . I know i'll fix it somehow, someday. I think there's even an upgrade now for slimbean, maybe I should try that. But right now i'm in google play store. in the 'my apps' list. and going through what i used to have, and installing my old apps, one by one. a grueling task, but I really want to use this ROM as my main rom.
As of right now I'm missing pretty much every file on my Internal Storage. No TiBu, no SMS Backups, no pics. However under storage in the settings menu it still shows 9 Gigs Free, which leads me to believe that its there, just not visible... There are some folders, but they are empty or don't contain the files it used to.
I noticed it at 2 AM when SMS backup & Restore notified me that it wouldn't backup because it couldn't find the SMS.xml file. I used Astro and ES File Manager to find it manually and I couldn't, at which point I noticed everything was missing.
Prior to that my phone was plugged into my PC, simply to charge. I was on the phone walking a friend through a Windows update and installing some software, and I plugged into my USB 2.0 port to charge the phone (3 hour phone call), which I've used multiple times. While it was plugged in I didn't really us the PC much other than google searches and reading news\posts\forums. I did however install Avast Antivirus cause I was walking her through it and I've never used it before. I'm hoping that had nothing to do with it. I googled Avast wiped my phone, and various similar phrases and didn't find any similar forum posts.
At this point, I could write a whole book about what might have caused it. I really have no clue. I'm looking for either anyone with a similar experience, or more importantly, anyone with a resolution.
Edit: I have a GSM Dev, Unlocked Rooted. Tmobile 4.4.2 using Faux Kernel.
That sucks dude! I haven't heard of this randomly happening on any phone I've had. Aside from recovery wipe accidents.
Drag!
Sent from my N5 cell phone telephone....
Haven't even been in recovery for a while. Even the backups made in recovery aren't there or aren't visible to the recovery either. I'm not even upset, I've lost things before due to my flashaholic tendencies, but I don't even flash stuff on this phone. That was one of the main reasons I kept this instead of my Nexus5, figured I'd be more productive not having to flash all the time. Might as well get a different phone...
More importantly I want to know the cause so that I and others can avoid it happening again. Almost makes me wish I kept my Nexus5, which now that I think of it, I have a fairly recent backup of on my PC. Who hoo!
Anyone with any thoughts or input, greatly appreciated.
MotoX Developer Edition went from German 4.4.2 to Great Britain 4.4.2 to T-Mobile 4.4.2 no problem. Fastboot FTW!
