How can I go back to Stock kernel? - Moto X Q&A

For some testing purposes I need to use the stock kernel. Is there any way I can flash stock kernel image without flashing the whole ROM? AFAIK the file boot.img under stock ROM is the stock kernel, so can I flash that via ADB? Currently on Faux's kernel.

Flash the system and boot

Use fast boot to flash it . Fastboot flash boot boot.img.

Just to let you know, I've flashed backups in recovery to do the same

Yeah, this did the job. Went back to stock kernel successfully, however the WiFi would never turn on after flashing, no idea why! Came back to Faux and WiFi is back

If you're on a custom stock rom,, flash the rom zip again without wiping.

I am on full stock mate. It's all right though, the testings I was thinking of doing are done with stock kernel, and now I can stay on Faux's.

You have to flash the system.img too along with the boot.img . Remember this for future ref

Go to recovery flash abyss kernel reboot to recovery, you can find this in advanced. Your recovery will change to touch CWM recovery use your finger to perform 3 wipes data, cache, and dalvik. Take out your battery, for one minute or more and put it again then go directly to download mode. Flash the stock rom.
Thanx mate!

You will lose applications and don't forget to wipe cache/dalvik if you face any problem in you phone after installing GB rom by going it in recovery.

i've been having this problem since i switch to ics.
when i try to revert back to abyss4.2 so i can try to install other ics rom, i get stucked.
what works is i try to restore my GB nandroid backup, then it reboots and hangs, i switch it off, then boot at recovery and walah!
im back to my GB cwm, then i can install abyss4.2 and proceed with ICS rom flash.
that's how i always do it, i hope someone can advise a better way..http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

We need more info. What was on the phone before you flashed Pac Man? Also, did you flash anything else with it?

That's all. I just updated the rom. I followed the steps given in updating the rom. No, only the rom.
I think there's no problem in how I flashed the rom. Maybe the rom itself is the problem because after flashing back to stock Gingerbread, I rooted my phone, flashed a kernel with cwm, installed root, did full wipe and flashed the rom but still stuck on bootloop. Thanks for trying to help.

Coming from GB, you have to repartition, which means that you have to flash the ROM twice in order for it to boot.

I'm still on gingerbread with corn kernel, how should I flash the rom?

Like I said, flash it twice in a row. Also don't forget the GApps if it's a AOSP ROM.

[Solved] [Q] cyanogenmod stock kernel

Hello,
I have cyanogenmod installed and was going to put meow kernel on but don't know how to revert to stock kernel in case I don't like it or just basically just to know how to do it, does anyone know how to do this? Do I have to completely reinstall cyanogenmod just to get back to stock kernel?
Thank you
you can extract boot.img from the CM ROM, and flash it via fastboot.
the boot.img is the CM stock kernel.

[Q] Stock kernel

I recently flashed the Franco kernel on my Nexus 6. I'm rooted running stock. I did not back up my stock kernel but would like to go back to it. How do I go about doing this? Thanks in advance.
2 ways..
1) find a stock ROM that can be flashed from Custom recovery
2) fastboot flash the boot.img from the factory images on the Google website.
Download https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=F1ED4BADFEE3FC02&id=F1ED4BADFEE3FC02!380 stock kernel and flash it in recovery.
Do note that the stock kernel is encryption enforced.
Thank you very much
