[Q] [URGENT]Link2SD or App2SD(APP Migr), SD card

Alright, so I've rooted and flashed CWM but when doing backups in
Nandroid and Titanium both stored in on my internal memory, while I want it on my SD card.
SD card: 32GB, FAT32(one partition), tried to make two FAT32 partitions but the second was not detected by both Windows pc and phone.
Phone sees my internal storage as "sdcard0" while it sees my sd card as "extSDCard"
1)Should I use App2SD(they changed it's name to App MIGR) or Link2SD to move apps to SD?
I've got most things covered for Link2SD but I still don't understand the init.d support; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087497
2)While the Nandroid backup is pretty much organised, Titanium backup has like dozens of files, which am I supposed to choose if I wanted to restore my Titanium backup ?( I did the Backup new user+system apps & newer versions batch only.)(Nandroid didn't even detect my SD card while backing up.)

In cwm choose "backup and restore" / "backup to external sdcard" and your backups will be put in clockworkmod-folder on external sd.
For titanium backup you have to set location for backups to be on your external.
Have a look in titanium settings to change the default path.
I use derectorybind to bind the whole android folder to external.
Works great!

Both faria and benzrom (including drom) have init.d support. Just follow the guide to setup ext4 partition and Linux swap partition and link2sd should run fine.

Init.d support can be done on every rom.

Got both external options to work for now.
Did u mean u bind the whole RAM or just the internal storage. Does it warn you when some apps i.e. widgets can't be moved(before it's broken) or doesn't it have that limit like Link2SD ? (Am still hestitating to use it;
-App2SD has this note:"Move apps function may not work on your devcie as manufacture removes the function of moving apps to SD from Android system" don't know whether we have that.
-Link2SD has sort of difficult requirements before install.
-DirectoryBind; Because many issues where posted by members.

Directorybind has nothing to do with ram. You just symlink appdata from "/sdcard/android" to your external to get more internal space
Never had any problems with it and im using it on three different devices.

Got confused; I meant system ROM, since I just saw ~260MB left, but I suppose I made a mistake cause the system saves data to my internal storage too, am I right... o.0 ?
What are the differences between DirectoryBind, App MGR and Link2SD anyways?

How much space for;
FAT32 partition
Ext4 partition
Swap partition
and why on a 32GB SD card, the values.

The fat32 can be any size, this is your normal sd card data that you can use on your pc (music, videos, pics etc).
Ext4 should be however many apps sizes you want. Like if you have a lot of play store downloaded then set this as big as you think you need but save some space for linux swap.
Linux swap should be minimum 300mb (according to the guide), this is like a bit of extra ram incase your system ram gets full. Mine works fine with 800mb.
If you're looking for an example of what you could set, here :
Fat32 : 15gb
Ext4 : 15gb
Linux swap : 1gb
They could work fine is not very complicated unless I'm wrong. Study the guide well and read other people's posts on there too.

Yes 260mb is left on your system partition.
Installed apps goes to "/data" = internal storage.

Does our phone/kernel support Ext4 ?

sure it does....if u succeed in installing the Link2Sd the first option is to select ext 2,ext 3 or ext 4 to link it.....this might help on the init.d support...pretty easy actually...

I paid for Link2SD Pro but I've had some problems with it. When I contact the developer, Bulant, he sometimes responds but other times I get no reply.
Have you tried using both? What do you think of AppMgr? What about Link2SD?

Memory problem when installing apps

hi guys,
i've a little big problem with my atrix HD: i've just installed the cyanogen 11 snapshot M10, after having done all the wipes, format system, data etc, after the reboot everything was fine, and i started reinstalling all the app i need, and there is the problem, apparently i don't have enough free space to download and install app... maybe there's something i don't know about the place where the apps are downloaded or something like that.. i've checked the play store cache, wiped it too but nothin changed... here a screenshot about the apps page, thanks in advance

What app is it failing on? What size was it? Were you on a previous version of CM11? Just trying to get some background before diagnosing. I do see that you are down to 500 MB, so if its a big download you very well may be running out of space. The phone has about 5 gigs of free space when on CM11 M10.

for starters, did you make sure that you are seeing the right internal memory for that? remember, there's that sdcard1 and legacy folder that does take up room. advise you look through those, grab up what you need, put it under one folder and delete the other. also, if its saying that on installing apps, go data/app-lib, delete files corresponding to app, and reinstall app.

the app is google chrome, even if is a bit big, i don't think is big enough to fill all the free memory :/ the atrix was running a CM 11 snapshot M7

data partition access requires the use of a file manager that gives you root access (like root browser)
The internal storage that I was referring to is something that is usually seen when ppl use philz touch recovery (media1 vs media0 in philz). this does create a situation where you have your storage from a previous version of android and a storage from a newer version of android. for example, if using CM (I'm on CM10.2, but should be able to be seen on any version), you have the CM version of file manager included. open that and go to storage. in there you'll see emulated, sdcard1, and usbdisk. emulated refers to that older internal storage while sdcard1 refers to the newer

in the first photo, you can see the content of storage directory in my phone:
1-Emulated = it contains the directories "0" and "Legacy";
2-Sdcard0 = it's for the "Internal sdcard";
3-Sdcard1 = it stands for the "External sdcard";
4-Usb Disk = maybe is the partition mounted when i plug an usb drive in ?
I've a clockwork recovery installed.
So just to undestand, when i format the system, it creates copied directories in the internal storage?

My bad, I hit a 1 instead of a 0 on the sdcard part. but yes, from what you described in your most recent post and the pic attatched, that is what I am referring to. That Emulated folder is what you need to go through, and move any files you want to keep over to sdcard0 (easier to work with), then delete everything inside Emulated. That should free up space.
Which CWM do you have?
I'm looking into the Chrome app right now to see what's going on with it. even though I'm on CM10.2, I've got both installed correctly. What is it saying when you try to download it?

I recently had that error with adobe reader. I fixed mine by doing what I said earlier in the data partition, as well as going through the main folders within the data partition (data/app, data/app-lib, data/dalvik-cache, data/data) and deleting anything corresponding to the app.

Xposed Framework not working on SD-Ext (Ext4) 2nd Partition

Wonder if anyone has had the same issues as myself.
Model: Samsung Note (N7000)
OS: Android 4.4.4 (Kitkat) / ROM: DirtyUnicorn 8.2
Software: Mounts2SD
I've ran out of space, and so tried to find an App that can move all Apps onto the second partition of an SD Card. Much like the days of Gingerbread 2.3.7 --> JellyBean 4.1.2.
However with KitKat, and its SD Card issues... I've been unable to find a decent App that supports it.
S2E = Does not support Android higher than 4.1.2
Link2SD = Too confusing, and doesn't find the sd-ext partition.
Mounts2SD = Mainly works ok, has issues. But does the job, other than Xposed....
- anyone know of alternatives to the above?
Anyway, under the above circumstances.... Xposed was installed and working fine, up until I moved all the data on 2nd partition. Now it says it's installed, but not active... No matter how many times I try reinstall over top, still doesn't come active...

AS it requires to be installed in the system partition It wont work no matter what you do. It simple cant work from an SD card.
Moving apps to the SD cards is asking for trouble to begin with. This is due to the way android mounts the sd card very late and why app developers tell you that widgets will not work when the app is installed on the sd card. My advise would be to clean up some of your apps. With the storage on devices this is seldom needed and with 5.0 will mostly not work at all.

As the way Android does it, is it makes it work/behave just like it's installed on the Android devices main memory, even though it is coming from SD card. Although depending on age of device, it could be a little slower and setting that up on Boot, but once loaded, it works a treat. However these methods don't seem possible now on new Android OS versions....
True though, if anything is moved over to SD card via Apps2SD, where the data files are moved to the SD and the App still stays on the phone. Then yes, that is asking for trouble, as it is slower method and never really works... Unless you don't use Widgets, I believe this method to be pointless. As you're not really moving the whole App, only parts of it...
In the end, I went with re-partitioning my internal memory on the phone... I have extended the phones internal /data partition... and now all is working fine... Just means my phone is no longer stock. And if I ever have to return it to stock, I have to re-partition it again... But at least I have more space for Apps now...

I can see why with Googles move to do away with sd cards all together. Mainly as there really is almost no need for them anymore. With the storage on most devices sd cards are slowly being removed. Even Google removed the stock sd card code all together from android back in ICS.

it changes its position while flipping from vertical to horizontal. sometime it's at the centre where it should be, but then, it goes back a little left, then again to the far left.
The rom is pretty smooth, faced glitches while trying to swipe languages at the welcome cynogenmod screen, a soft reboot too, while on particular language(was just rolling over). (clean flash on the latest twrp recovery, with opengapps and keyboard fix) after went over the process, tried taking screenshot, but got error "Couldn't capture screenshot(Can't take screenshot due to limited storage space or it isn't allowed by the app or your organization"(wth?) soon enough everything started crashing and wouldn't stop, I reboot to recovery again, clear cache then back again. voila, no crashing and I took screenshot. no keyboard problem.
wifi connects, camera and camcorder works. file manager shows sd card data but pc won't mount sd card(if it's not fat32 format), ram usage was at 63 percent(with gapps after reboot) and 60 percent(without gapps)
clean flashed again. without gapps, just rom and keyboard fix.
no fc or crashes at all.

keyboard lock AOSP.
An alternative keyboard please?

The last 2 links you list say "Tab 2 7.0." Do you know if these files also work for the P5113? (I'm assuming yes, since you have a thumbs up next to P5113).
Also, is it ok if I use Open GApps 6.0 nano instead of your 2nd link?
Or would this conflict with the GApps keyboard listed in your 3rd link?

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure
One last question: I see you stated earlier the "file manager shows sd card data but pc won't mount sd card(if it's not fat32 format)."
This is probably a n00b question, but can you explain what "won't mount SD card" mean?
I did some quick Googling, and it looks like it means the card isn't recognized. Does this mean that I can't access backed-up data from Titanium Backup? I know it's not recommended, but I usually like to back-up and restore save data for games and applications (only user apps, never system apps!) after each Rom change. Does this mean that my backup will be lost / inaccessible?
Or does this mean I won't be able to transfer newer builds from my pc to the tablet using the USB cord?

Know bug if you switch roms and don't format data in twrp (confirm by typing "yes" - instead Advance wipe data/internal storage).

I did some quick Googling, and it looks like it means the card isn't recognized. Does this mean that I can't access backed-up data from Titanium Backup? I know it's not recommended, but I usually like to back-up and restore save data for games and applications (only user apps, never system apps!) after each Rom change. Does this mean that my backup will be lost / inaccessible?
Or does this mean I won't be able to transfer newer builds from my pc to the tablet using the USB cord?

it won't show your sd card when you connect through the USB on the PC, so you won't be able to transfer files to the sd card, neither it shows on your tab.(it does show, but has different mount point, instead of sdcard1 your external card data will be found at /mnt/media_rw/(somerandomname) using any filemanager.
now you got the point? you can try titanium backup to look your files at that location.

Yes, these files worked successfully on my SG Tab2-10.1 (P5113). The only issue I'm experiencing is with my 16G external SD card. Storage & USB in settings reads it on tablet, but 'File Manager' and 'ES File Explorer' apps do not. Desktop connection via USB also does not show external storage.

Thanks for the explanation! I just installed CM 13, and it seems to be running smoothly so far.
A few minor questions:
What root manager apps works with CM 13? I just tried SuperSU from the Playstore, apparently it only supports up to Lollipop since it kept giving me error messages when trying to install the binaries.
Also, is there a setting to change the time in the upper-right corner to show AM/PM?

Going back to cm12.1 . Dont like the externalsd card problems. Dont know why they changed it, but it su..... . But must say that ROM works fine. Hope they change external sd card usage, to come back on it.

You don't need supersu, it's pre rooted, go into developers settings and enable root from there for app and adb. Go into setting time and date, change time format to 12 hour

I have a problem with this.
When I use ES File Manager in CM13 and go to /mnt/media_rw/ I see an empty folder even though I have a micro-sd card inserted which contains data. When I go to settings-->Storage & USB, Marshmallow shows me my external microsd-card as "sdcard1" under "mobile storage" with 42 of 59 GB used.
I did NOT use the internal-storage open introduced in Marshmallow. I want to keep my microsd-card as an external device.
When I turn the screen of and on again, I'm in the lock-screen and I see a notification which reads "SD-Card by Samsung - for transferring fotos and media" and when I double-tap on the notification, a file-manager opens and shows me all the files and folders saved to my external microsd-card and then I can access all files and folders contained on the microsd-card, I can listen to music, open PDFs and so on.
How can I acess the microsd- card with a file manager ? How can I copy files from my tablet's internal storage to the microsd-card and vice versa ?
Of course, when I connect my tablet with my windows-pc using the usb-cable, the microsd-card also does not show up on the PC.

The same way you do to any other Marshmallow rom. Flash xposed zip, install xposed framework apk and install any xposed module

I have installed this on my spice android one phone and my initial impression are followed
Pros: It has improved my phone's battery life considerably, maybe because I had been using some apps earlier that was causing battery drain or maybe it is updated 6.01 MM with all the updates and bugs fixes.
Cons: I am having problem with some of the apps that I can't transfer to SD card which I could do earlier and though I can transfer google chrome to the sd card but it is not working and crashing there but working fine in internal storage.
overall I am kinda satisfied with having a lot more extra internal space and lot less cluttered.

Thanks for the feedback. But I would recommend everyone that they should not move apps to external storage media. Because it makes device slower, due to the low speed of SDcards.

dude this device has got less than 2gb of internal storage after installing this rom, the only reason for me to installing this rom was to have some mb's free in my internal storage
If I didn't transfer apps to sd card then I wouldn't be able to install some of the most basic apps.

Please tell me that how to enable google assistant in this rom..
as Google app should be installed and must be in system partition...and using xposed module...but it didnt worked for me...

I have a weird issue on this rom. Previously everything was fine but now I have a problem. WhatsApp and Chrome cannot write anything to SD card (Whatsapp says download failed and Chrome says SD card missing). In the settings it shows SD card inserted and mounted. Root explorer can access SD card and it is not corrupt as I can copy stuff from PC. I have tried to use SD card both as Adopted storage and Portable storage but still same issue. I am using Sprout 4 rom. Can someone tell me how to fix it or what is causing this? I don't want to flash new rom

ya this rom has some problems, when I moved chrome to sd card it stopped working and I can't move some of the apps to the sd card which I could do earlier.

Flashed stock rom (untouched), now its fixed. Maybe some important system files got deleted by mistake by OP while debloating the rom. Still rom was very fast, hope the stuff get fixed
