[Q] Vibration not strong - Samsung Gear Live

Coming from the Pebble, the vibration on the Gear Live is pretty weak.
Is there a way or setting to increase it?

I don;t think there is one (yet) and I agreed, the vibration notification is really brief and really subtle

I agree, i'm really excited about Android Wear, but am very disappointed in how weak the vibration notification are. I've read other similar complaints about the "gear 2". I compared it to a friends gear fit vibration, and the live is much weaker. The gear fit's vibration is audible, which is maybe why samsung chose to make it weaker, since the "gear live" vibration is pretty silent. I can feel it when i'm wearing the watch tight enough to cut off my circulation, but it's uncomfortable that way! When i wear it a notch or two looser, i just miss notifications. I setup a recurring text cron to myself to test it, and i'm missed most of them when i'm not paying attention to the watch explicitly. I'd love a setting to increase the vibration, or to allow a multiple vibrations for notifications or something, but as is, unless that happens in the next few days, i'm prepared to return the watch and wait for a new model with good good vibrations.

Its app Dependant. For example, evolvesms, the vibration is much stronger.

Thanks. Zach. Hopefully some custom roms can fix it across all apps. Mostly I need hangouts and timers to be more noticeable.

This vibration is piss poor Samsung. My lord

I don't think Samsung are doing anything rom wise. All google. Surely in future updates they'll have it vibrate stronger. Then again, I've not tried any apps that are able to vibrate it to see if it does actually go stronger

Any news on how to increase vibration? An app or a ROM perhaps? I know the G Watch has a ROM that can customize vibration.

There has to be a way because if you swipe down on the clock face, "mute" shows up with the weak, brief vibration.
Swipe down again and this time it says "unmute" and there is a stronger, longer vibration!
So, it can be done... but how for text or emails?

Possible Solution

I have written a guide on the general forum to use tasker and autonotification to produce a stronger vibration for notifications.

Hi,
I have just added a "make notifications vibration stronger" in last SWApp Launcher Wear version:

[Q] Does slide to unlock work ?

With screen lock disabled (no password/pin/pattern/face), I find that slide to unlock does not work. What I mean is that a simple touch (anywhere), unlocks the device.
Is this normal behaviour ?
Thats is wierd, you should still need to slide somewhere ... can u post a quick video ?
You sure you're not sliding somewhere? You don't have to slide from the lock, you can pull up from the middle left of the screen or wherever you please..
This does sound odd if you're just tapping . Like the v-b-n said, is there a chance you can post a video?

I'll take a video with my old phone in a few mins. Need to charge it.
Is there any specific parts of my phone you want to see or just the unlock bit ?

I can't seem to find any option that disables slide to unlock, so at this point, no.. Just go ahead and demonstrate the touch to unlock if it unlocks, i dont know what to tell you to be honest :s looks like a defect

It's uploading now.
I'm pretty sure I noticed this before on stock, I am running a custom kernel and ROM. ARHD 7.3 and faux123 kernel. I don't necessarily want to revert back just to confirm it.

I believe it has something to do with some assistive stuff. Saw an earlier thread about it.

That's what it was. I had Tasker and Pebble enabled in the accessibility section. Disabling those, gave me proper slide to unlock. But that's dumb, because now Tasker and Pebble won't work properly (especially Pebble).
but that did solve it.
Thanks samflorin!

Glad you got it all working!
I was thinking if accessibility options but taking a look at mine, I couldn't find anything that would interfere or cause similar problems.
What exactly are you using Tasker for? I have Tasker enabled, but the Tasker JB option is disabled. Tasker is working properly in my case

I believe Tasker needs accessiblity for access app information like K9 mail. I can probably live without that, but Pebble notifications, that's hard to ignore because the watch itself is useless without it.

Quite interesting... Odd to see Pebble breaking it..
I'd rather live with tap to unlock than without Pebble.
Maybe try widgetlocker or try go locker with some kind of sense theme.
No need for root. Won't be as seamless, might take up more battery, but you get proper functionality
A little off topic, what do you think of Pebble?
Personally, I think the functionality on paper is pretty good, but i dont see myself wearing it because of the looks (i like more circular, military style, all black, discrete stealth watches)..
And then just wait for HTC or Pebble dw

The watch is good. It's my third smart watch. I have a MetaWatch digital and Analog as well. For a more elegant look, I prefer the Metawatch analog, but for a day to day @ work and stuff, the pebble is great. I hardly use my Metawatch digital. The pebble feels very...plastic. Not very good build quality if im being honest, but Metawatch...amazing build quality. Feels proper.
I found a work around for it. It requires root access, Tasker and Secure Settings.
What I did was create a Context that is activated when the display is on and then using Secure Settings, disable all Accessibility for all events. As an exit task, I re-enable all my accessibility apps.
Now when i turn on my display, I actually have to slide to unlock.

Motion Sensor?

Despite searching the forums, searching Google and watching many video reviews, I have not been able to find an answer to this question:
Does the Galaxy Gear have motion sensors which can 'wake' the watch based on movement. ie: I want to be able to tell the time just by moving the arm the watch is strapped to without having to touch the screen, or push a button. I believe the Sony Smartwatch has this feature.
Hmmmm does the phone function start by lifting your arm or button presses?
Pretty sure the health stuff is still feeding off the phone no?
Was wondering the same thing. I assumed that it would because I think that would be a huge negative of a watch if I actually had to turn it on to see the time. Nothing I have read or watched on YouTube talks about this. I did see an option for screen time before sleep can be changed but not the same thing.

It is coming up to the time I'll have to confirm my pre-order or cancel it, does anyone else have information on the motion sensor functionality?
I found another video review which does seem to indicate it has some sort of motion-screen activation via Phandroid. There are several points in the video where the screen turns on without any obvious screen touching or button pushing. Note that the watch in this video has the security plate on the bottom, effectively doubling the thickness, the dude from Phandroid doesn't seem to realise or mention it.
Ive seen a video that shows exactly this, someone lifting their wrist to look at the watch and the screen automatically lighting up. Only problem is there are so many video reviews from IFA 2013 that i can't find it again. I can 100% confirm there is a motion sensor, it is listed on many reviews.
Hope this helps?
If it doesn't it will. Since it has a pedometer it does have a motion sensor. So would be easy to make a shake your wrist to turn on feature like the MotoActv.

I can confirm it does turn on by itself when you raise your arm or flick your wrist.

[Q] How to let the gear stay on current app?

I've been playing with my Gear for a while. The biggest problem to me is, When I go for a run using runtastic or other app, when the screen times out and turns off, and I ust motion sensor to turn it back on, it goes to the clock but not the app I'm using. There seems no way to keep the app on the front after screen off? Please help as it's really annoying and I can't believe Samsung fail to design this.
Appreciate it.

Same here... I'm really hoping Samsung just rushed the watch, and this isn't what they would consider a 100% finished product. Hopefully they're writing updates as we speak to fix a few of the issues. I can do more on my old original Sony SmartWatch than I can on a new more expensive device. Only thing the Gear does better is you can make calls on it.
Quick-ish workaround is to tap and hold 2 fingers on the screen to bring up the recent apps list.

Overall I love the device, but it's definitely rough around the edges. To me this issue one of the more disappointing things about the watch so far. If I am using Media Controller to listen to music, it's really annoying not to have it there when I want to go back to use it, and that goes for just about any other app I'd like to use. For Samsung all it really would have taken was a simple check box somewhere that says something like "default to watch face upon wake," and if that was unchecked, whatever you were doing last would just stay there on the watch the next time you looked at it.
Really the point of having a watch like this is to make it easy for you to do whatever you want to do. My guess is that most people who buy a $300 accessory to their phone like this are doing it hoping to smoothly interact with good apps. So every time you start to want to enjoy an app, you are consistently reminded that this watch wants to be a watch more than it wants to help you do whatever you're doing with it. In my mind, constantly defaulting back to the watchface everytime it goes to sleep and wakes up is a huge bug, not the feature Samsung probably thought it would be.
Anyway, I've used the recent apps two fingers shortcut a fair amount, but I have found it was just best to switch to the watch face that has the shortcuts on it. (In the Galaxy gear manager clock choice menu, it's called "Shortcut Clock," right above the Watchstyler)
Ideally I would rather use a custom watch face without the shortcuts. But for now, choosing 3 shortcuts for my most commonly used apps at least makes it easier to get back to what I was doing, and it's one less step then the two finger recent app workaround.

This is possible when using GM Gesture, create a gesture for a "home" action and replace the hardware key bind to a power only.
The hardware key serves two purposes, a home button & power button. I simply have removed the home button functionality and made a gesture for it.
I leave applications up all the time, especially timer functions.

The Galaxy Note 3. I upgraded from the Note 2, and bought the watch at the same time. Yesterday was my last day to return the watch and I was very close to returning it, but decided to hope for updates soon. I loved the Note 2, and now the Note 3. It shows me Samsung can build a great mobile product, so I hope the watch becomes more useful in the future.

Weak Vibrations

Folks,
Is anyone else bothered by the Weak Vibrations from the LG G Watch R?
The weak vibrations are really starting to bother me .. I assume that a new software update could possibly improve the vibrations strength and duration.
Encourage everyone having the same concerns as me to log a ticket to LG and hopefully this will bring our concerns to their attention and create a new SW update with better vibrations (either strong vibrations or longer duration)
Yes, it is a bit bothering me. I can not notice while running or walking.

I'm trying to learn how to increase it. It looks like it will have to be a kernel implementation, and I am not at all familiar with kernels. I am trying to learn, I see the file that needs to be edited but I am not clear as to how to do it properly and I don't want to supply too much power to it and blow it up.
File is here: https://android.googlesource.com/ke...0-kitkat-wear/drivers/misc/msm_pwm_vibrator.c
So I've made great progress. I have successfully gotten TWRP to boot on our device which opens up all kinds of doors for us.
I have also rooted the device now, so stay tuned guys.
Let us know how you get on. Moving from a Pebble, I hardly notice any notifications from the LG G Watch R ... Very faint vibrations compared to he Pebble. Missed several notifications throughout the day ... How does one log a ticket with LG anyway? Perhaps that's the best move? LG are pretty quick to respond, right?

There is a mod now that makes it better but still not Pebble level. I dont think it will ever get as strong as the pebble but I think pebble might have had an overstrong motorntp begin with. I would say with the mod its at 70% compared to the. Pebble.

There aren't any Android Wear watches with a speaker because Google doesn't want them. Reviews aren't going to mention what something doesn't have unless they're comparing it to something else that does have it.
I guess that makes sense. This is my first Wear watch after having a Samgung Gear....

I've read that the vibration works for an alarm for some people. It seems that would require wearing the watch to bed, but the vibration isn't strong enough to wake me up, plus I would worry about the battery dying while I was asleep.

Just another why Samsung is ahead of Android Wear. Camera, speaker, video, calling.... Wrap these Samsung features into one of LG's watches [I have the G Watch R] and we have a winner.
Maybe LG will activate the speaker on the next Wear update ? oh no, you must buy the Urbane 2
