Swiftkey introduced a new keyboard built specifically for tablets running Honeycomb today. Should anyone get ahold of this; I would love to see if it will work on our G Tablets!

It says they'll show it off at MWC, so I assume we'll get more details then. Unless they release it with a 3.0 minimum requirement, there's no reason we couldn't just get it off the market. If they do require Honeycomb... well I'm hoping we get that on the G-tab by the end of Feb. anyway
Love SwiftKey. Using it on my G Tablet and Rooted Android. Will be interested to see how they improve the current version on Honeycomb...will be hard to do.
I don't know if any of you ha e heard of this but if you want an awesome 3d first person RPG similair in style to oblivion check out WWW.realmsoffortune.com it works great on vegan 5.1.1 the game is available through the market as well but for some reason Is a much older version than through the web site. Its still in BETA stages currently and the dev is very active on his forums and open to help and suggestions.
I highly recommend checking it out for anyone interested in seeing what both android and our tabs are capable of. I've been sucked into it already and I'm sure with the feedback from members here this game could evolve into a major android RPG powerhouse.

The game looks really cool but the control icons don't seem to work for me. I have Vegan 5.1.1 as well. Hoping the next release works. Just running around was fun.
This game actually ran smooth enough to play on my HTC Magic. Realty fun game. Was wondering why it never got updates on-the-job market. I will give this a round two for sure.

The final release should be out in early April. Give it a play and give your feedback. The dev is very active on the RoF forum and loves all the input and even criticisms we give.
Full version now in market. Quests and tons of spells and items. This game keeps getting better. Devs says key mapping is in the works so wiimote or keyboard can be used.

I'm a long time blackberry user and I've gone through at least a half dozen over the years.
I'm currently using the Blackberry Bold 9900, which I suppose is the current flagship model.
I bought the Playbook tablet long ago, unfortunately even after the '2.0 update' it's basically a paperweight and almost useless. In my frustration I bought a kindle fire, and was very impressed. There's a very active dev community, and in no time I had it rooted and was testing out different mods and kernels. Lots of fun.
This got me thinking about getting a more competent android device, the fire is good but I'd be interested to see what a serious device could do. I've been waiting forever to get a tablet with a decent digitizer/stylus and was immediately interested by the Galaxy Note (and later the Galaxy Note 10.1).
I've been seriously considering getting the Galaxy Note as a second phone and giving it a go. However, I still don't understand why I would want or need such a large and powerful device.
Typing on a touchscreen is pretty terrible. Yeah everyone says you get used to it, but I could bang out 50wpm in the dark with my hands behind my back on my blackberry.
I had the iPhone 3GS and I hated it so much I threw it out of the window on the highway. What a nightmare.
Secondly, I only ever use my bb to: email, bbm, twitter, and occasionally make calls.
So I suppose my question is.. Other than the fun that is hacking up the phone/tablet and customizing it. What's the point? Why does one need a device like this? What do you do with it to justify having it? What apps do you need/use on a daily basis that need two cores and a HD screen?
As a consumer, I want one. But as a rational person I don't know what I would use it for. I only use my kindle fire to play crappy time killer games on the treadmill. What's the point?

Android has the ability to customize everything to such an extent that basic, you made the phone. That's what everyone loves about it. You can the look, feel, and functionality all to your liking.
Also, you have the option of the three main android version which are: Stock (can be seen on the galaxy nexus) HTC Sense (can be seen on all HTC phones) and MIUI (a custom rom that extends the customization ability even further with has themes for EVERY aspect e.x. The dialer, messaging app, notification bar, lock screen, etc)
You should go your local bestbuy and play with the phones. Android is a great experience.
In reference to your apps that you like, there are many email and twitter apps, all with different levels of functionality, and being that you're social, you'll enjoy widgets that allow you to send a tweet quickly, right from your home screen. When you finally leave BBM, you'll realize that it's not so important. There is an app called Talk, it's just like BBM, only for android. Texting is also just as good.
I hope I helped in your decision and enlightened your image of Android.

I asked myself these very same questions before purchasing a true smartphone, and sadly it turns out to be a life eater. You can do almost anything on the phone. I use mine mainly for music, news reading, and playing games. But everyone always finds different things useful in their phone. I can almost guarantee you won't regret getting the Note. That is if you can deal with that massively beautiful screen.

I think I will take the leap, and try it out for at least one month.
I went from BB OS to Android and could not be happier. Give it a try, the positives will likely outweigh any negatives for you.
It all depends on what you do. If you want to be able to play high end games, be able to have the latest software for a good while and be able to keep up with the rest for another year then you should get the note. If none of the above matter then any simple android device should do.

Overall Android just gives you an experience that is designed for you, couldn't be happier with it.
Honestly I see Blackberrys at the end of the smart phone train. I love Android cause it is sleek and fun to use!
Android can be a portable office, a portable arcade, or a portable jukebox. For geeks the customizability is an attraction in itself. If you travel a lot you really can't beat it as a mobile commumication center. It's really whatever you make of it.
Made the jump, and one week later.. It's going great! The xda community is fantastic, and the hardware is unreal. Cheers guys!

Miui isn't a main Android version. But touchwiz on Samsung phones and motoblur on Motorola phones is.

Since Samsung has had their Android Wear version of their Gear watches announced (and available for order today), what's the odds of that ROM being loaded on our Gear 1 devices? I, for one, have not gone to Tizen yet in hopes of this taking place and it seems like we are on the verge of this happening. I know it will not be an official release, but something where a rooted device would be needed.

Whether or not Android Wear's better than Tizen all depends on which apps you use on your phone. Android Wear (like Google Now) is dependent on using Google's apps and services. Most of what Now reports off of is scraped from Gmail. I don't use Gmail or any Google apps I don't have to so Now and Android Wear are useless to me and those like me. Most corporate/professional users that use MS products, Exchange, and connect to secure networks (which typically limit apps used for personal use) aren't going to be Android Wear candidates.

I'm sure it'll fit perfectly with gear 2. I see the .tar having the drivers for the watch it's a dependent of
I would be very interested in a Wear port too.
As far as I can see, not too many things have changed on the Gear live compaired to the Gear 1.
Sure, the CPU would be faster but the screen and memory size are the same.
Count me in as well, this is where xda shines.... people coming together to contribute to the common goal. Can't wait.

It's a discussion forum, no? Everyone here is a wearables early adopter so are interested in whatever comes next. And not everyone here uses their devices the same way or wants the same things. Other than blind fanbois who clearly have no objectivity, I enjoy hearing people's different views; even if I don't agree with them. Your post added less to this discussion than mine did. People wetting themselves over something no one here knows the functional value of (yet) is the height of fanboi-ism. Android Wear could change the world as we know it. It's going to take more than a five minute conference dog and pony for that to happen.
A discussion by folks who want wear not about discussing why someone doesn't need nor want-not a fan of any particular aspect - just bored with Gear 1-if motor 360 looks good I'll purchase, if not then wait a while

I have been waiting for Android Wear to be released. I believe it would be a wonderful fit for the galaxy gear 1. Let's not forget the functionality of the gear 1 using the Null ROM....android based. Today's conference reiterated how coding would not be that much different for normal Android code. Sounds promising to me.

From earlier discussions and threads I believe Android wear requires a 4.4 based Rom to operate. The Gear 1 Roms and Null Rom are 4.3 based. The real hurdle will be getting a 4.4 Rom on the Gear. The Devs and contributors on XDA are very talented so with this release of the Gear Live maybe they can accomplish it.
I am curious what the battery will be like on the Gear Live with the always on features of Android wear. The screen has to go into some type of low power mode for the 300mAh battery to last through a day. I also have a Qualcomm Toq that I picked up cheap on ebay, that uses a Mirasol Screen and only has a 240mAh battery. I get 4-5 days always on with it (even over night). The Toq has a tiny processor, runs a unique OS, and the colors are not vibrant, but it is a very capable demonstration smartwatch. I think there may be a future for more advanced Mirasol screens.
Anyway good to see some excitement over our Gear 1. I have enjoyed being an early adapter and experimenting with Null and Tizen on the watch. Maybe Android Wear is in our future.
I want to see this. I really need to get off of this touchwiz train. Wear works with any android at least 4.3.

Sorry i was refering to @Mr Ian B's question on watchstyler on Android Wear, didn't realize it could have applied to your original question in the OP. :cyclops:
Android wear was just announced yesterday, so it will probably be a while before devs can get their hands on a device, then another while before we see a port, only after that will we see if other features like watchstyler will be able to be ported onto android wear, should not be a major problem as both are of the same platform.
Personally I cannot wait to see a port of Android wear onto the gear1, I would like to see how my gear1 fares withe the screen on feature:laugh:

Basically I would like to see a port of the 4.2.2 moving closer in Android versions to 4.4 and Wear. So we basically would have Android 4.4 with the Gear goodies and goodies of the Wear (basically Google Now).
Yes a straight Android Wear would cripple all the great features of the Gear 1 / 2.

Hardware wise we have a perfect smartwatch, with more features than the newly announced smartwatches.
Ok, we don't have a round form factor but actually I like the size and wear of my Gear 1 a lot.
All the new smartwatches are not able to take and answer calls indeed. Don't have a own camera for taking pictures and video's.
Only thing they DO have, is the latest version of Android (Wear in this case, based on Android 4.4).
But looking at it closely, is our Android 4.2 so very different than Android 4.4 that we can't do normal stuff anymore ?
No, we can still do everything the new smartwatches can (software wise then).
I have Null_23 on my Gear 1 and more than happy with it !
Not going to switch to Tizen or buy another watch....mine is just perfect !
I love the way my gear is with Null ROM...
Is there anyway to get google now working on the gear 1 that would make me so happy...

Yes, Google Now launcher works if sideloaded, but you also need a bunch of other packages to make it work. It's not worth it, honestly.
What really pisses me off about this watch is that it was rated worst product of the year by Engadget. Really?! Who's pocket are they in? Now you have a crop of watches with less features and they are being praised as revolutionary. Samsung was a true pioneer with this one. Yes, other watches also paved the way, but to be given such a terrible rep was completely unfair. It certainly needed improvements and was definitely a first gen smartwatch, but android wear went backwards! No phone, no camera, and in some cases, much worse battery life. I get it that the new crop have always on features but I was looking in the coveted Moto 360 forum and most were cutting that feature off...to save battery. Finally,I have never owned a gadget that got more compliments, questions, and attention than my gear 1. I still get, "Nice watch" constantly. So, did Samsung screw it up or make something brilliant? I'd say the latter, and I'm NOT a fanboy. I welcome someone who does a round form factor and improves on the gear 1 design.
Personally, I have been looking around at android wear products but I haven't been impressed by any of them that are currently coming to market now. The concepts look so much better than what is being offered like the Triwa Smartwatch concept. Samsung Galaxy Gear range looks and feels uncomfortable. Moto 360 had the right look. For now, I think I will stick with my Casio and Shark watches.

Your post reflects my sentiments and experience exactly! I bought this thing as a toy once they started blowing them out and it has become an indespensible part of my daily life.
I love when people with "newer" tech wonder if they should have waited until the features I have became available..What??? The newer ones can make phone calls??

I honestly bought this watch on a whim. I thought it was a silly concept and literally walked out of Verizon with it on an impulse buy. My plan was to play around with it, and take it back, but then it quickly grew on me. I would feel lost without my watch now. People who haven't owned one don't understand. It sounds ridiculous to say you need an extension of your smartphone, but in practice, you learn to love it.

Exactly.... Never wanted or was interested in getting one, till they got cheap and I was away for business for 3weeks. Bought it as a toy to play with for my boring days at a hotel. And now I totally love it. Love looking at my wrist to see who is calling and then answering or ignoring it. Very handy . I also stopped my quest to load all kinds of sounds etc. I keep it on silent all the time. The vibrations are always felt. They even wake me with the alarm feature. I also cut back on all the notifications except the basics. Anyhow I'm extremely happy with buying it, and I wonder what I will do when this things kicks the bucket. I don't want a fancy time piece or a Wear device. Now if the next gen Wear devices have the stuff I have and use on my Gear then I'll take a look. But my must haves will be a speaker to talk etc. And a camera just because I can...

Hinder us? I thought android wear was a launcher over stock android 4.4? If that's the case, the camera would still work, phone calls would still work, and the features of android wear added.

Unfortunately it's not that easy as you picture it...
Our Gears are running Tizen or Android 4.2.2 and in both cases the Gears need to be upgraded to Android 4.4 in order to run Android Wear.
But upgrading our devices to Android 4.4 is not that easy.
Besides the source code (for compiling) Android 4.4, we also need source for the drivers of our hardware (like camera, speaker, microfoon, etc).
Some source is open souce, like Android itself.
But other source code is so called closed source, source code owned by someone (in our case Samsung) which they don't publish on the internet.
Not having the correct drivers will most probably be a show-stopper for getting Android Wear on our Gears.
Unless a really skilled programmer can create drivers for the hardware, or we can get our hands somehow on the source code of the drivers.

Same here love my Gear 1 running Null with all the features, calling and camara.
thinking of getting the Gear S cause it does most of the things i do now like reply to text messeges(Tablet Talk) with keyboard which is my favorite feature. i could watch youtube and when i get a text i just answer thru my watch no need to stop what im doing on my phone.
But my only reservation with the Gear S is the strap it looks to big.
Any thoughts on the Gear S?
