[Q] Problem updating apps - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people! I am an S3 mini owner for the last one and a half year. I have installed CM 11 about 3 months ago and my phone is better than ever. I usually install almost all the daily releases. I 've also installed the latest gapps. The only problem that I am facing lately is that some of the applications cannot be updated. The error message says that there is not enough free space in my device. I have almost 1,5 gb of free space, so I don't think that this is really the problem. Even if I uninstall these apps and I try to install them again, I also face the same error, that there is not enough free space in my device. This hapens with 9 apps. All the rest are updating normally. Do you have any idea what could I do with my problerm? Thanks in advance!

It happened to me once with titanium backup, so I deleted com.kermidas.TitaniumBackup-1.odex from data/app, using root explorer & voila, problem solved

Thank you very much for the response, mauan. I followed your instructions, but the problem remains. I also tried to uninstal Titanium Backup, but neither this prooved to be a solution to my problem... Any other idea?

I would also like to say that the problem with these apps is really strange. Even if I uninstal one of them and then try to reinstall it, either from Google play store or installing the apk that I have already downloaded manually, the problem remains the same: not enough space. The only way to use this app again is restoring a nandroid backup that includes it. Meanwhile, I can install other apps normally, even if they need much more free space.
This problem has started being annoying to me, but I would like to avoid hard reset and setting up the phone from the scratch... Ouf........

Titanium backup was an example for what you need to do with apps that said "no free space". Are you using gapps 4.4.4 or 4.4.3? I can't think clearly at this late hours

OK, I 've understood now. Titanium backup works flawlessly to me, but even trying your example with one of the "problematic" apps didn't work...

I had the exact same problem, but on stock ROM. What I did was I made a nandroid backup, wiped /system , /data and /cache and then restored my backup. When the phone booted up everything was working again and I could update or install new apps without the "no space" message

Thanks for the response, koragg97. I tried restoring a nandroid backup after full wipe, but the problem remains, even with more than 2gb free at the phone memory...

Hello, people! Sadly, the problem still remains. The most usual possible solution I have read is deleting the .apk file from data/apps folder, but it didn't work to me... Any other idea...?
Sent from my GT-I8190 using XDA Free mobile app

Oups! I just understood that I was doing something wrong! I was deleting the .apk filr, not the .odex one. The problem is that I cannot find any .odex files in the data/app/ directory. Does it have anything to do with deodexed rom...? Could I find the .odex files somewhere else? My phone is running on CM 11 20140710 at the momment..

[Q] HELP!!!!

Ok, so I have a rooted Nexus One with cyanogen 6.0rc3 on it. I recently tried to put cyanogen 6.1 on it so I could upgrade to 7.0. Then, I see the common glitch where there is no market so I revert back to my old rom which I made a backup for(using ROM Manager). So here comes the hard part, when it restores my ROM, have no apps, no nothing which I downloaded, and I tried to restore again, because ROM Manager reinstalled, but I didn't get anything. Can some tell me how to get my data and all my stuff back, please?!?!?!?! If I don't get help by the end of the month, my service gets cut off, so I really need help!!!! Please help guys, thanks in advance, you guys are the bomb!!!!

What's that supposed to mean? You lose service because you don't have the data on your phone restored?
Are you using apps2sd?
I feel like you have no chance of restoring anything at the moment though.
If you have a custom recovery, just wipe and start again, or restore your backup... Make sure you have a gapps package that is compatible with your ROM...

All your apps will be in the market under 'my apps' and as long as you have synched with Google servers all your data should be retrieveable by re-synching.

You don't need to go to cm6.1 to get to cm7. Even on 6.1 you need to do a full wipe anyway to eliminate any potential problems.
Also did you happen to use CWM 3.0?

I tried that, too, not all of my apps restored, and my data would be gone on them anyway

Need some help with the Titanium backup

I recently bought a Galaxy s i9003 and successfully rooted it, i installed titanium backup and tried backing up my apps, it backed up all my apps in the phone storage and not on the external memory card, suppose i do a factory reset on the phone or install a custom rom will all the backup date be erased from the phone memory?, is there anyway i can do the backup on the external memory ?or am i doing something wrong? please advice the right method
thanks
In Titanium Backup go to Preferences and select Backup Folder Name....add external_sd/ before Titanium Backup...that will save all your files to the external SD. You can also enable Dropbox backups as well from Preferences.

Assuming you are rooted to begin with, nope...factory reset does not affect the kernel, therefore you stay rooted

The pro version has some nice additional functionality, plus some biggies like the ability to backup your apps to Dropbox as well as to have multiple backups of the same app.
Beyond that, you can certainly get the job done with the free version, but for those apps we use alot and depend on, spending a couple bucks to support the developer is the right thing to do. Plus it helps ensure regular updates, makes the dev feel appretiated and gives the dev a leg to stand on when they try to justify all that time spent at the computer to their spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend.
"...but look baby, I made SEVENTEEN DOLLARS in the Market last week!!!"

fine then don't co-operate. good luck
Stock kernel imposes system partition write protection following boot, so you can't modify or delete any system apps without a modified kernel.

4.3 Storage Problems?

Hey guys, I'm new to the one coming from an s4, and after learning all the necessary things I flashed a 4.3 custom Rom over the stock 4.1.2 that I had. Now I've got a massive amount (19.89 gb) of storage from 'other'... I tried deleting certain files that I thought were the culprit(data/media) but after trying to with box Rom toolbox pro and root explorer I have been unsuccessful in removing the folders, they just stick there no matter what I do, even after deleting them all twice over and rebooting several times. Now I've noticed that if I move a file into the 0 folder then suddenly the pictures show up in the gallery after a reboot. However there are still files I don't need and want to get rid of. Anyone for helping?

I've already read through that one, it doesn't help as it seems I cannot delete the folders, outside of data/media/0 as these all persist after a reboot, even after deleting them. File manager says finished deleting and then I reboot, still there, still taking up 7 gb extra space.

yep
looks like im using this phone with only an accessable 2 gigabytes for now. Bummer Hummer
Hate to be that guy, but back everything up (helium for apps and app data, move all media to a computer) and factory reset. It's a pain, I know, but it almost certainly will fix the problem.
I had the save problem, I used a usb otg thing and copied what I wanted, did a factory reset and formatted my storage in twrp, now all is good and transferred the stuff back to the phone storage

This seems to be the only fix, I've tried everything else. Seems it was an issue from going from 4.1.2 to to 4.2.2 also
Ive tried a factory reset, clockwork mod wipe, deleting root folders and nothing works!! :crying: Ill try the twrp format though. because right now i have 11gb in my "other" folder!
UPDATE: holy poop guys that was the most scary bricking Ive ever dealt with!!!!! whatever you guys do, dont format EVERYTHING like I did!!!!

I've been dancing around using the TWRP "format data" option as well, so you are advising against that huh? Why, was it a little more than just factory reset type deal? I need to find a solution to this issue and I know that resetting is the answer, just need to find the best way to go about it. Thanks for the update, and I would love to hear what exactly you went through selecting the TWRP format option!

I formatted EVERYTHING in twrp haha the only way I got my phone back was to downgrade twrp to 2.5.0.0 and use abd sideload ( sideloaded my viper rom) with the htc toolkit program on my pc. And now my "other" folder says 2 gb which I believe is correct. :good: But now I have another problem I went into recovery and installed a zip file that modified the amount of steps i had in my volume, (I have already installed it before and it worked great) now my phone is in a bootloop and Ive already tried flashing a new boot image but it doesn't work....what do i do?
UPDATE: I guess i warned against it because I thought i ruined my phone. Also, I just sideloaded viper rom again to fix my problem

[Q] Full Backup

Hi Guys,
So I've been using my HTC One for a few months and now decided to finally root it. The problem: Rooting it will wipe all of its data and I've got a lot...
So here's my question:
Is it possible to perform a Full Backup with Apps, App data(savegames) , contacts, messages, call log and maybe even all the files on the internal storage.
I'm not rooted and got Android 4.2.2. It doesn't have to be a All-in-one tool, the important part is that I don't lose anything
Im looking forward to your response

As per my knowledge , unlike earlier android versions .... there will not be any data losses ....try this rooting video tutorial
https://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&s...twIwAA&usg=AFQjCNEyLasgV81Bd5chhgwCOochHUjDCA
If you really want to backup your apps try 'App backup & restore' or similar apps .... but they can only backup the apps not the app data
To backup an apps completely as you see it , you need apps like Titanium Backup ... but it requires root access
Hope it helps...

if you're going to unlock using HTCdev, then it wipe EVERYTHING off your phone, just installing root doesn't wipe.
Since you're not rooted TiBu won't work, so check out Helium
also check
SMS Backup & Restore by Sashu
Call Logs Backup & Restore by Sashu (when restoring, first restore logs, THEN sync contacts, otherwise the names won't get resolved)
