[Q] Galaxy SIII-like ROM - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently using Cyanogenmod 11 on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus, and I want the full Samsung experience, like on the stock Gingerbread ROM.
I've looked everywhere for one, but there doesn't seem to be any such ROM that meets my requirements.
Ideally, I would like a ROM to have the stock Samsung features (TouchWiz, etc), but be on Android 4.0 or later (for the latest apps to work).
Have I missed such a ROM, or am I stuck with applying customisation packs that mostly don't work?

Give this a try. It has a Galaxy S5 UI.

This'll work for the S Plus also?
They're pretty similar in hardware, so I see why not, unless something is CPU-specific there.

S and S+ are different in hardware (Cortex A9 vs Snapdragon)

[Q] Stock Froyo for Galaxy S

Hi folks,
This is a noob question. I am unable to find any post related to stock Froyo for Galaxy S. Is something like this out yet ?
By stock I mean, Android as Google release it, without any reseller trash on it.
Thanks in advance
there is no froyo for SGS yet, at least not officially
much less a stock froyo
there are tons of phone killing Beta froyos if you feel brave
Thanks for letting me know. I am not confident yet in any beta out there, although a lot of phones are using it without any issue...
Hoping that stock will be released soon.
Thanks
It won't (be released soon).
Currently there are community efforts going on to try and get stock 2.1 run on the SGS but they still have a way to go.
After that, once samsung releases the sources for 2.2 they can start trying to get a stock 2.2 running. They have to wait for Samsung because of drivers and such.
Hoping that what they've learned from 2.1 can largely be reused there's a good chance a stock/AOSP 2.2 ROM could make it's way relatively fast to the SGS but for now, don't hold your breath.

I really don't think it can ever be called stock. All releases have to be configured and customised to the platform they are running on. With Linux or Windows it is all on the disk and web server, drivers etc etc. You cannot do this with phone firmware as the download would be huge.
And just like Windows or Linux there are some stock programs that each will install. So what can we call "stock"? Even the Nexux 2.2 has to be configured to it.
By stock/vanilla Android, I meant of course a modified one that includes drivers for SGS, but does not include any customer UI made by Samsung.
So stock UI, no additional garbage (iPhone garbage style in SGS case) would be what I really need to see on my phone.
Or maybe a faster way for this is to modify current Samsung ROM and remove TW and Samsung's apps.
Thanks

Have a look in the Dev threads. There are several Roms that do that.
Hi Tehpriest,
Can you route me to a ROM mentioned by you ? I searched but in vane... no result.
Thanks
+1. Have been seeking a stock UI-based ROM for i9000T for a while now, with no luck.
Cheers!
There seems to now be some skilled developers starting to get Cyanogen 6 (a vanilla version of Froyo) onto the Galaxy S. Assuming they get it running - which I think is likely when Samsung release the source for their spin on Froyo - it will take a while before it's stable and fully featured.
There's a steep learning curve for working out how to backup then flash your phone with a new rom. It took me three days to go through forum posts working it out, and I've now got a beta version of Froyo working fine. My advice is to get Samsung's official upgrade Froyo when it's out and wait until the devs get a chance to get something better running.
Also, use 'Launcher pro' from the market to replace Samsung's launcher, which makes things a whole lot more familiar.
official froyo is out, the wait should be shorter now
I am hoping too for this. I really like to benefit of OOB Android experience as Galaxy S is my first android phone.
Looking forward to see if it... hopefully soon.
wasnt CyanogenMod working on a release for the galaxy s?

[Q] Porting Touchwiz apps

I'm currently running Mandana 6.2 JW6 with Semaphore kernel, but I want to try something new and fresh (like Jellybean or ICS). The problem is that I really like the Touchwiz based messaging and contacts app. Is it possible to port them from the stock firmware from either SGS1,2,3? I've heard that the camera is impossible to function under a Cyanogenmod-based rom.
So, which apps are possible to port to a rom not based on Samsung's firmware?
I would always do something new and would loved to,Unless i created BACKUP and straight up with something that im going to do.Camera impossible?No..They already fix that.Im on cm 10 and everything works like charm now.
Oh, I mean the Samsung camera app
you mean the build in camera..?
The camera application in Touchwiz: http://sammyhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/galaxy-s-review-camera.jpg
As I recall it's impossible to port it to any other roms not based on Samsung's firmware.

Probably not "impossible" as such but pretty hard since all Samsung apps use a framework that would have to be ported to CM. Which probably isn't legal... and certainly not worth the effort, since there's alternative apps for everything (even FM radio).
So yeah, what he said.

Any Samsung custom phone roms that work with the Galaxy Gear?

I posted this in the Note 2 forum, but it is very quiet over there, so has any one found a custom Samsung rom that does not cripple the watches features?
I will be using this on a Note 2.
I am looking for a rom that would not throw up a flag with Samsung Galaxy Gear software.

So any roms that are compatible with proprietary Samsung apps?
Thank you, and Happy New Year.
I'm on cm12.1 having same issue. I was wondering if it was a root issue or ROM issue. What ROM are you on
you must make sure that you are running a touchwiz rom for easiest support... it can be done on others but this is where i would start. hope this helps!
no roms yet?
i need any rom suggestion

It does matter.
Simply install the latest Nougat stock ROM, debloat with Neked Maker, root, install Xposed with the modules you like.
That's all you need, no reason to bother with custom ROMs, which always have annoyances, instabilities or things which don't work.
One of my hooks to android is to install custom ROM. I had so much fun with it when I had Samsung note 2. Today, I'm running android 8.0 on my lovely tab s2. Well, I tried o.p but didn't work. Lineage os 15.1 is beautiful. I love it.

Galaxy Tab GT-P1000N best option

Hi guys, I have a old Galaxy Tab GT-P1000N and I was thinking in using it for some smaller apps that helpĀ“s me on my work.
As I don't use it for a long time, I would like to know what is the best option now for it, so I can get the best performance of this old tab.
Should I stay on stock home? If yes, what firmware version?
Or should I install some ROM which is better and faster than stock one? If yes, what rom and where I can find it and how to install it?
Thx!
No one?

Too old for development... lastest "CM nightly" works quite well. But the hardware is obsolete, so do not expect speed of light at all unfortunately
