Well...I've had it for a couple months, and Dell has still not delivered on their promise of official Honeycomb.
I just got hired for a job, and should have a few hundred by the end of the month.
The Asus transformer meets all my needs - an official Honeycomb tablet, it can be used as a notebook (it has a docking keyboard and can be flashed to dual-boot linux) and there are already plans for a Transformer 2, which depending on price, I may wait for (running a Tegra 3 quad-core.)
So, I'm highly considering switching to Asus.

Ditto... Dell is suckin it up when it comes to support.
Do it. I hate this thing. Steve has done so much and it's still only bearable. I used it for like the first month I had it and went back to using my much smaller phone. Mainly due to the terrible display. Unfortunately there is no rom that can improve a display. I can't even sell it. People use it and there like oh no thanks. I may have to pay someone to take it away lol. But for realz tho. I would sell it if I were you. Just hope you have an easier time of it than I am.

You people crack me up and I'm not saying this to be mean, but why would you buy a device on hopes that it may or may not be upgraded. Think about it, staples ad's and website say OTA Honeycomb Upgradable, and Dell's website just says something like OTA Upgradable. To me that doesn't say it will be it says it can be. If and when this gets upgraded it would be 3.2, but you can't just snap your fingers and say here it is. That's not to say that Dell is working on an upgrade because I don't know. I'm not sure what angles you are using this at, but the angles I use it at to view e-mails, read a book are fine for me. I mean I wouldn't have paid $300 for the WiFi only (which is what I have) nor would I have locked myself into a contract with it, but I gladly bought it with the $100 off coupon and I did have to return my first one because the capacitive buttons weren't working. You can't buy technology on hopes and promises, you have to research and decide if the device as is will fulfill your needs. If not don't buy it. This for me is doing everything I need it to as is. I want Honeycomb as much as the next person, but what this device has been out what at total of 6 months or something and honeycomb has been available for less than that. I've had my droid 2 for a year and Verizon still has yet to roll out Gingerbread for it (I did however get tired of waiting and flashed CM7 on it).
If you are leaving and you say you cant sell it easy, ill buy it from you if you make me a good enough deal. I love my ds7. Ill get one for my wife

Go to Dell automated support and search Honeycomb. It says there WILL be Honeycomb. They didn't say that it's upgradeable, they said there would be an upgrade. In fact, I think if there is not a Honeycomb upgrade, it may be enough that someone can take a class-action against them. And you make a good point that the tablet has been out longer than the OS, but that can cut both ways. This means Dell had the hardware plenty long to create a Honeycomb build for it...if they were going to, I don't see why it wouldn't have been done by now.

I bought mine with the staples deal because it was a 7 inch tablet with nice speakers and a tegra 2 processor and the two cameras. It is a good deal for 200.00. If HC gets on here that is a bonus for me.

I picked mine up for 200 brand new in box unopened and a new unopened otterbox commuter case. I love craigslist lol. So far overall im pleased with it. Screen resolution with rdp is acceptable. I use mine tethered to my 50 / Month cricket kyocera zio phone. Their internet speed is so much better than at&t 3g service. With a 7 inch screen I wouldn't want a higher resolution. A higher resolution means everything would be tiny in rdp (I need to use it while driving like a touchscreen mobile workstation) and so far with a bluetooth keyboard it does nicely. The viewing angle isn't the best but acceptable. Im not even pressed for hc because it does EVERYTHING it should without a hitch ( rdp, netflix, movies, game console emulators, 3-4 hrs battery w/ heavy usage, ect). You get the storage graphics and processor of the large tablets ....but also something even better. IT FITS IN YOUR BACK POCKET!!!!!!!!! (Im a smaller guy w/ a 30 inch waist and it fits easily in any pair of Levi or old navy rear pants pocket I have

A computer being compatible with the next version of Windows is a different matter - unless it is specifically stated that it will be compatible.
As it stands now, it says 2.2 on the Dell website, because that is the current OS. The fact that is says that there WILL, not MIGHT, be an upgrade, means they need to deliver. And as far as I'm concerned, there are already 7 inch tablets planned for release on Honeycomb 3.2, and we've had the hardware MUCH longer than they have, Dell had time. At the very least, if Honeycomb isn't coming out anytime soon, they can at least acknowledge it, rather than pretending it doesn't exist, and say straight-up that there is going to be a wait.
Oh, and if you haven't been here last week, Dell Mobility was telling people that Honeycomb was already being pushed to devices, despite the fact the update was never pushed. Also, this was around the time of the Staples deal. Any company that lies to their user-base to get sales, does not deserve them.
Yes, 2.2 is very stable, but Dells customer support - not so much.
I understand what you're saying but believe you are missing my point. Yes there are 7" versions planned to be released, like the Acer Iconia A100, which was supposed to come out earlier this year, but has yet to come out due to the issues with Honeycomb and screen size, not that there may not have been hardware issues or something but what I read was mainly honeycomb. Even the much hyped Vizio tablet is shipping with Android 2.3, because as they state "Honeycomb is just not stable, once we feel it's stable we will consider an upgrade". Now don't misunderstand me, yes the tablet we have is Honeycomb compatible, I have yet to find anything on the Dell website that states it WILL get it, though I have read that it was announced at CES that it WILL get it. I believe it will get it. And yes I did read the posts on here regarding Dell telling people it was being pushed when it wasn't. The biggest problem with companies is over promising and under delivering, personally I am not a Dell person (and actually hate the company) and had a hard time actually purchasing a Dell product. But purchased this device based on the hardware and my needs, that and the $100 off, but did not read forums before making my purchase so as not to be swayed. My business partner has the 7" Galaxy tab, and made her ask Verizon before getting locked in if it would ever see Honeycomb, they flat out told her no. Now the staples website does state "Android™ 2.2-based tablet with over-the-air upgrade capability to Android™ 3.0 (Honeycomb). Upgrade date TBA." But I still say, make your purchases based on if the device fills your need as is, not what the device could be. I have had my share of crappy support from Dell in the past with business computers, so much as to tell them to go f$$# themselves I'm voiding the warranty and fixing it myself.
I flip flop like a politician on this tablet. Some days I hate it some days I love it.

Yeah dell will probably not update the streak 7 since 10 inch dell streak pro coming out in Sept..if they do it will be updated with froyo 2.2.3 not honeycomb but who knows for sure...if you go website it doesnt look promising...we will see hopefully we do get update honeycomb-----

Ditto here. I really like my Archos 70S tablet which pretty much has the same general specs, screen resolution, limited viewing angle, Android 2.2.x, etc. Since its from Archos it plays tons of media even formats the Streak can't. Much lighter than the Streak with better battery life too.
Yet with all that, I think the $200 I paid for my Streak at the Staples sale is a bargain. This is an official Google approved device so no need for a hack just to get market. Has a built-in GPS and enough system memory and storage to run a ton of apps at the same time and have a plethora of downloaded programs to run. The Archos 256 M of memory and 300 M of app storage is quite limiting, but then it was designed with a price point way cheaper than the Streak. So no Gorilla glass either. No dock although it does have a USB port on the device which is handy and a mini HDMI port that I much prefer on a dock like the Streak.
Add to that the Tegra2 chipset on the streak, the capacity to vibrate (I assume that's part of being a Google approved device), a compass (ditto) and there's nothing like it on the market.
Getting HC is just gravy as far as I'm concerned.

I agree, its really the only tablet that you CAN fit in your pocket, and as far as the viewing goes its not like your displaying it for a whole room to view it at once, by a big screen tv at that...

I'm currently stuck between selling my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 + Keyboard Dock for the Nexus 7.
I'm planning on getting the Nexus 4 Smartphone, which will arrive next week. My question is, should I sell my TF300+Dock for the N7, if I have the N4 (4.7in Screen).
It's quite complicated.
My dislikes of the tablet I currently have:
- Too much like a laptop (but also something I like): During bus rides, I'd love to take out my tablet. One word: too hard. But at coffee shops, it's perfect
- Heavy, and a tad too big
- Slow I/O Hampers the tab's performance (Chrome, Installing/Updating Apps, Music can be a bit slow)
Likes:
- The Keyboard Dock, awesome for blogging and essay writing (I don't have a laptop)
- It's nice
So if someone could give me some insight, it'd be great!

Used to to have a tf201. Sold it to a friend for the same reasons basically, the keyboard was handy but added bulk to the tablet and found myself using it more like a laptop than a tablet.
The thing about the Nexus 7 for factor is that using an in screen keyboard is a lot more viable than on a larger 10 inch tablet. It's just too hard to hold a 10 inch tablet while entering text on a soft keyboard, and obviously the dock is useless for this as well. With the Nexus 7 I use Swift Key 3 in portrait mode and just type with my thumbs and it's very fast as far as soft keyboards go. Granted as a touch typist its still slower than a keyboard but I for one am happy to make the sacrifice in return for the superior portability of the Nexus 7.

Tricky one.
The Nexus 7 is not a laptop replacement. Its not as easy or quick to type on and not as powerful, with a lot less "useful" things you can do with it.
However, add a USB (via OTG, I've heard they work, but I guess you may have power issues) or Bluetooth keyboard and you have a pretty useful piece of kits. Its very portable and can fit in a coat pocket. However, with a case around it, its a bit harder to fit in a pocket. With my Roo Case, I cant fit it in my pocket any longer for example.
Being the size of an average book though, its more than practical for taking out in a bus though. I looked at both and went for the Nexus on cost and functionality. I have a stack of apps for the Nexus and I'm amazed by how useful its becoming. I've set up Cloud Print for instance so it prints out anything to my printer and with Evernote, it saves anything I am browsing and interested in, or with Quill, i can take handwritten notes (which are thus far illegible - I need a better pen device).
Would you take around the Nexus just for the more powerful machine and slightly larger screen? With me, its a no brainer, as my phone is an Xperia Ray and that's got a tiny screen. I wanted a Kindle style tablet that I could carry around and read etc. Would you make use of the 3G for instance? If so, thats another bonus for the Nexus.
Maybe use the Nexus 4 for a couple of weeks and see what the combination of that and the transformer feels like. The nexus 7 isnt going anywhere and as experience has shown, waiting will if anything make it cheaper and better.
How about getting a chromebook as laptop. should be able to write essays and stuff. I dont think you need a N7 if you get a N4, except you want a 7inch tablet.
I myself use the iPad of my father occasionally and it is far too big and far too heavy. its almost a pain in the ass writing and/or surfing on it while lying on the couch because it is too big/heavy. Thats why I choose the nexus 7, because it is light and smaller, imho perfect size.

1 Acer Timeline 1830T with 256GB SSD (main work computer) (11.6")
2 Asus Transformer TF101 w/keyboard dock
3 Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
4 Nexus 7 3g being delivered on Monday
The Timeline is great. Does everything, great form factor.
The Transformer is caught between a tablet and a notebook. It's an awkward tablet and with the keyboard it's not that different in size from my Acer
Galaxy Tab is nice (it was an experiment for me, we had a couple left over from a giveaway at my company so I've been playing with it over the last two months). It really fits a niche for when I travel on business. I have to have my Windows laptop for work but there's lots of times where the Galaxy Tab is easy to pull out and do something (I was stuck on a plane for an hour at the gate last week in ORD when they were de-icing - watched a movie). Only problem with the Sammy is that to get online, I have to whip out my mifi and fire it up. Hence the purchase of the Nexus 3G. If I can get it to tether a data plan, I may even give up my mifi.
Conclusion, if you have a regular computer, I'd get the Nexus 7 (I ordered a minisuit bluetooth keyboard cover for it) for when you are mobile. If you don't have a regular computer and the transformer is filling that niche, I'd think twice (perhaps your Nexus 4 can fill the mobile need) For me, a 7" tablet is an accessory not a mainstay.
You have no reasons to buy N7 if you have N4 and Transformer, exept if you are a gadget freak like most of us
Hey guys! I'm also about to buy this tablet. I like many things about it(extremely cheap, hardware wise etc) but my only concern is the screen size. 7" sounds small compared to, say the iPad. I know N7 is much more handy and it can be carried with you every where you go but it's a tablet after all. Gaming, movies and web browsing? I'm into big screens and I think 4.3" is way too small for a phone, now will I be disappointed with the "small" screen of the N7.
Someone already mentioned in this thread that the small screen is great for typing. That's true I believe... Cheers.
Btw, I'm looking for a device that would replace my laptop, which is broken. I will still have my netbook, but I won't be using it for leisure due to it's crappy performance.
EDIT: I would buy some kind of a BT keyboard if they work since I'd be doing a lot of school work(+ a LOT of IM'ing ) with it...

Well, I've heard different stories... In almost any review I've read, they say it's the best tablet(for its price anyway) out there. Can you justify your statement? :silly:
The TF300 does not need the dock, so you can use without it. I have one too and use mainly without the keyboard. Also have a G3 that is 4.8"and no display space taken up by a nav bar.
The N7 is cramp for viewing space, compared to the TF300. The N7 is a nice tweener device and handier for travel, but IMO, not a practical replacement for the TF300. More like a complimentary device with the TF300.
i had the exact same thing as you, tf300t with dock that i liked, but i had to take a bag if i wanted to take it anywhere
i sold my transformer and got the n7, and i havent looked back once, i though going from 10" to 7" would be a big deal but its not, its easy to hold in one hand and is quick as hell, i couldnt recommend the plunge anymore i LOVE my n7
Just read a little about this product. Do you guys think this would be a good compliment to the Note 2. It's supposed to retail around $200 US.

My guess, it would be what we see with the iDevice versions or something similar to ASUS Transormer Prime/Infinity Pads. What I think you're getting is just a device just brings an Android experience to a larger screen and nicer keyboard to use. I'm almost want to say it's just going to mirror your device display.
If you're familiar with Android and normal OSs for notebooks--Windows, OSX, various Linus distros--then you'll know they're not exactly the same. Android is very capable OS, but it has it's limits compared to other OS choices
That said, it could a good choice for someone, maybe a student, for two hundred dollars. A lot will depend on what you need to use.
Looks great to me. I'd be a buyer. Even better, they should make it with a space in the back that you can pop your device in... Just order the right spacers and it should fit snugly.

Did some reading on the Interwebs, and my enthusiasm is dampened. It seems that Clamcase is not a reputable company, and their products are of awful quality with nonexistent support. The idea is a fantastic one, I'd daydreamed of something similar (with a backlit keyboard and a big user replaceable SSD), but these guys are worse than vapor-ware, apparently.

It is Asus, and it is called the padfone.
It ain't cheap (750 or so if memory serves) and I don't know that is available in the US.

Nope. Lapdock has two connections, one hdmi, the other usb.
I use to use something like this for Windows Mobile called a Redfly that was more like a netbook size. This would still make sense to me except my Series 9 Ultrabook is already a better option and as thin and light as i need it to be.
The main thing missing for me in Android/iOS is the multi-window support, but if a product like this would come out and still support multi-window like the Note 2 does, it would be a good solution for not having a super light/thin but expensive ultrabook.
Wonder if it uses the old 5 pin mhl or the new one that the gn2 and gs3 use.
Guess I'll get a bluetooth keyboard trackpad combo and wait for this:

unless both devices have MHL built into them, you'll need to get a MHL adapter.
I had no idea if the PadFone is available in the US either. I just remember the device existing and it's what device reminded me of. It's nice idea since most people are getting and using various smartphones. Why not trying to combine with something to be more robusts. I just see, as of right now, being limited because of the Android OS itself and how to apps designed and written. No mobile office suite compares to features and use to a desktop counterpart. Although, given the costs, it can me a nice alternative.
Personally, I would just get an older laptop if to fit the need. Other than maybe a need for bigger screen, I would just use a portable keyboard and stand for the phone and call it good. Not that I would recommend for writing a paper for school. I hold that statement for tablets too.

Just read a little about this product. Do you guys think this would be a good compliment to the Note 2. It's supposed to retail around $200 US.

it looks like they'll be making docks for specific phones, so I imagine the note 2's dock will be the correct one. i'm guessing they'd also make a generic interface for non-so-popular phones, perhaps cable-only. In which case you can use the 11-5pin converter that Samsung sells.
i wonder how the keyboard/trackpad works. i'm guessing bluetooth?

MHL can do hdmi and usb at the same time.
I recently purchased an N7 but at the MWC I saw ASUS announce the Fonepad.
I would love if I could use my N7 as my every day phone.
The snag is I'm in Canada so it might be hard to obtain one, and I'm not sure how the atom benchmarks against the processor in the current N7.
I've also been considering returning it because I've heard a new version of the n7 is coming out with 1080p and 2GB of ram.
If you always think about what products that will be released in the future, you'll never buy and enjoy anything. The N7 is great. You bought it, now enjoy it.
Well, obviously newer tabs....except cheapo ones, are gonna be better.
If you wanna spend 300....you made a great decision. If you can spend much more, then no you didn't.
I think this is obvious, and why no one is replying.

I bought the N7 last week and ended up returning it. I'm trying to transition from an iPad to an Android tablet and found the screen quality on the N7 to be lacking. It's an excellent low-end tablet, but the screen quality is nowhere near the iPad.
Right now I'm going to either
a) Get a Nexus 10, OR
b) Wait until Mid-May to see how the refreshed Nexus 7 will turn out.
I love the size of the N7, and I already have a tablet for the moment, so I'm thinking I may choose option b. I also fear that if I end up purchasing a N10, it'll have some amazing hardware refresh in the next 4-5 months and I'll end up getting ticked off.
Since I already have a tablet of some sort, it's easier for me to wait a bit. If someone needs a tablet NOW, I'd suggest the N10 to them.

Low end? Its specs still stand up or beat most newer 7" tablets.
For 7"....not much that's better...the low price is a bonus.
If you're gonna talk 10"....its apples and oranges. They can pack more tech into their bigger size...obviously. Also...some people don't consider 10" cause its too big.
If someone is afraid that something better will come out....that WILL always happen. So better not buy anything....or maybe just rent...so you can upgrade at will!

Probably a poor choice of phrasing on my part (I'm battling a head cold and can't think straight).
The internals are excellent, but the screen isn't great. The screen is on-par or better-than tablets in that size range, but it's not as good as a larger sized tablet. Since the size isn't a major issue with me, I have the luxury of being able to compare the larger screens to the smaller ones. I don't expect them to cram the resolution of an N10 into an N7 though.
My particular N7 also had very washed-out colors and very bad backlight bleeding at two corners. Hopefully any refresh that is done will fix quality issues like this.
I think the screen is fantastic - no issues here.

You could always use Google Voice and GrooveIP together. I use mine as a house phone with that combination while I'm at home. A Google Voice account is free and GrooveIP Lite is free on the play store. There is also a paid version but the free Lite version has everything you need. Use the Google Voice app for texting. All free on a Wi-Fi connection.

The N7 forum is probably the last place you'd ask if you made a good decision. I'd venture a guess that most people would confirm that you made a wonderful decision in purchasing one, regardless of what for.

A bit of good old fashioned research would have answered all questions you have asked here. .
You have bought a quad core, tegra 3 running device which is still quite powerful. It will do whatever you ask it too generally, and it will do it well. I bought mine for £169.99 if i remember correctly, for the 32gig version. If you take all this into account, then go ahead and use it, you`ll find yourself amazed at how good it is, versus value for money, there is nothing better.

Sales figures also confirm why it is such a good device...if your expecting snapdragon 4/ 2 gig ram type hardware then obviously stay of the crack. Respectively, nobody can deny that it is fantastic value for money.

As long as you don't need a rear camera I would say get the nexus 7. Absolutely amazing.

You made a good decision with the information that was available at the time. Don't beat yourself up about it.
I like the direction things are going and I think we will see more 7" tabs with small bezels and voice integration. People get pi$$ed at teh idea of using it as a phone, but like I keep saying you don't have to use it as a phone, its just nice to have additional options.

I find the Nexus 7 to be a blast. It's so much fun getting to experiment with other developer's ROMs on the latest form of Android. Of course there are always updates to be released, nothing's perfect. The Nexus 7 is definitely a good choice considering what other Android tablets are floating around in the market.

I don't see why people would be angry about using a 7" tablet as a phone. We already have a 6"1 phone out now. Heck, we'll see 7“ phones pretty soon.

So I am back after i lost my beloved TF700 about 6 months ago. I am now on the prowl for a new tablet and i really want one with a dock again. I plan on using it as a laptop replacement so the keyboard and the full size USB are a huge plus to me. The battery makes it even better. So i remeber sbdags praising the TF701 back then when i first lost my tablet. My thing is this, should i go for the TF701 or is there a better option out there with a dock? Also, has anyone heard anything, good or bad about the new TF303? I know its european and such only right now, but that is the beauty of buying online, and who knows, they may eventually bring it to the states.
If you like the form factor, USB, microSD and SD card slots on Android it's tough to find an alternative to the TF700/701. Lots more options on the Windows side, but.... it's Windows.....
I love the TF701 and since it's not been very popular (read about the wobble/disconnect issues with the dock) you can get the combo for under $300. Pretty hard to beat for a tablet with these specs.
The new Nexus 9 with it's folding cover/keyboard looks interesting. But Nexus never had external storage and that's a deal breaker for me.
Don't know about the 303. It has LTE right? I'm not interested paying for another data plan and wouldn't hold my breath seeing it on the US market, probably due to the strangle hold and extremely unattractive data plans US carriers have and offer.
