So I'm looking at getting some kind of keyboard/tablet combo like the Transformer series in order to steam from my desktop computer anywhere; I've settled on using Splashtop for the actual streaming, so now I need to wonder which Tablet is the better choice.
My question is more in using the trackpad- In other words, does the trackpad work mostly as a "standard" trackpad would (THat is, right and left clicking)? The only videos I can find demoing the idea use a USB mouse, so I'm not finding any luck there.
I don't use Spashtop, so I can't help you there.
But the trackpad does not work lik on a Windows laptop. You do not have a right click context menu in Android. In some apps the right click functions as "back", in others it does nothing.
I never use it anyway. Feels extremely awkward if you have a perfect touch screen right in front of you.
The trackpad kind of works like windows - well windows 8 anyway. It works as if it is a touchscreen.
As for splashtop last time I used it it worked fine and I could use the device as netbook. Gaming will only be as good as your streaming connection so I found it ok for strategy type games but not for FPS as it introduces lag.

The only functionality you wont get from the trackpad on splashtop is two finger scrolling. This works with standard android apps but doesnt work with any RDP client i've tried.

That's fine with me, as I'm not much for FPSs anyway (and gaming was going to be at my main rig anyway).
One last question, though I think I found the answer to this before: Does the trackpad have right and left clicks, or is it where you have to hold the one button in order to right click?
Depends on the app. There is a right click however it is up to the developer if and how they use it. Most apps just use the right click as a back button.

In splash top it will work as a right click I believe so it will behave well for windows apps. In normal apps as said it is up to the app to configure mouse buttons - most android apps don't understand a right click - we have screen tap and screen tap and hold, etc....
Splashtop works just fine with it. I managed to actually play Mass Effect 3 from my gaming laptop in splashtop. It's just a pain to set up, that's all.
I do have the tf201 and I use splashtop 2 free version everyday with my windows 7 pc.
It works pretty good, the right click button of the trackpad dock acts as a windows right button.
only sad thing is that you have no ESC and no CANC button on the tf201 dock.
I remeber that a couple of years ago, in previous version of splashtop, the button which is located in the top left corner on the tf201 dock used to act as an esc button, but since some update it is no more like that.

I understand that a few of you have been using the phone. My contract has ended, and I'm really thinking about getting the Optimus 2X. I have read mixed reviews regarding the phone, and really want to hear from trusted XDA users.
So any advantages, disadvantages or verdicts would be really appreciated
Swedroid.se tested the phone a week ago, Swedroid is the biggest swedish community around Android, and its the only site I trust 100%! They said that its the best Android phone ever, they have tested so far.
You can check out the huge test here: http://www.swedroid.se/test-av-lg-optimus-2x/ (Its in Swedish though)
I agree with Hund. Swedroid does the best reviews you can ever see on the internet. They know their job and they test pretty much everything.
I've had the phone for a couple of days, so here are my first impressions:
Battery: I came from a Sony Ericsson X10i and the battery is a great improvement - can't give any stats though, but have pretty much been using the phone non-stop
Screen: Awesome screen with nice vibrant colors, good viewing angles and rather fair in sunlight.
OS: Everything is smoooooooth. Except when you change stuff like usb-mode. Then the media-player looks for new transferred media, but that is expected.
HDMI mirroring works like a charm! Great to show off and good when visiting people when you want to watch a movie.
Watched a couple of tv shows on a long busride today. Just standard 350mb .avi files that worked PERFECTLY! Even subs were crystal clear!
Camera - has some bugs with the blurryness, but I haven't really used it yet. Should be solved with a software update at some point.
I think that's about it.. BEST phone I've had so far and everyone I've shown it to was impressed BLING BLING

I'm very exited to be recieving mine soon from Ellos.dk... they are just soooooo slow...

Ok, th camera bug is a known problem and it seems to be a software problem.
Could someone kindly try to use another camera from the market? Maybe the results are better? Camera360 could be an alternative app.

Do you use a Taskkiller like ATK or something. If you do stop using it, i had the same problems with those force-closes when using ATK. Also you have to bear in mind that it has stock 2.2.2 and most market place stuff is made for 2.2.1 .
My opinion on the LG 2x: I still can not believe it's from LG those guys really went in the right direction. I've had a BB9700 and a Galaxy S (darkys rom) and this LG really is a piece of work. The build is quite solid when compared to Samsungs Galaxy and the preformance is great. Battery live is about 130 % better then the SGS not 160 % as advertised.

I have this phone now for 5 days.
Before I had a HTC legend.
- speed is great.
- there is a lag in the lockscreen (when you press the power button you first see your homescreen, and a second later the lock screen)
- i didnt found a option for the email of my hotmail account to delete te messages from the server.
-I cant add wordt to my dictionary when typing a message.
- had several crashes while doing just nothing (scrolling through menus or something)
- a lot of programs start up by themself. and the advanced task killer is not automaticly closing it even when i put the setting on kill when screen is off.
overall a good phone, but it doesnt feel just that right like a HTC.
can anyone say something about multitouch on 2x? in a video i saw its capable to handle 10 points but more interesting would be if its now possible to pinch to zoom and move at a time.
e.g.: in browser you zoom in on a webpage and whlie zooming you move the centre of zooming to an other point like the upper right corner and it zooms to the new centre. ive seen this on windows phone and ios but android so far.

How do you set up your hotmail? I haven't been able to do that. On my X10i, when i deleted the messages of my phone, it didn't affect the server either, so maybe that's just they way android is set up.
The standard keyboard is pretty lacking in terms of features..
The random things you experience with programs could be due to the fact that you are using a task killer.. They only cause problems imo.

Thats a matter of principle
i tried installing both of these apps and neither work.
is there anything out there to make em work? or is there another swype style keyboard?
i am TERRIBLE at typing. its just not at receptive of a touch screen as the ipad. but i like the android way way more.
its like i have to press harder to get a key pressed.
thanks in advance
EDIT : also love the feature to type from ultra keyboard with your voice. obviously voice search works on the tab, but im loooking to do emails and such with voice too.. possible?
thanks
Have you run the touch calibration?
i have not... ill search around for it in the menu and clockworkmod
i did the screen calibration. didnt really do anything. its just possible the screen just isnt quite as responsive if i would like.
swype or ultrakeyboard is much more important to me
thanks
It's Swype for me...
I'm a big fan of Swype. I use it on my Droid phone and cannot live without it. I also have it on my gtablet, and continue to love it, although swyping on the large screen in landscape mode takes a little getting used to. Swyping in portrait mode is much better. However, I still like it over others.
Installing Swype is not a simple thing, since the normal install apps check in with Swype headquarters, where you'll be told you are not a phone, so goodbye. And many of the apks for the app will say your screen is not the right size. But search this site, and you will find many threads on the subject, including the link to the proper apk. Basically, you will have to google for a specific version of swype, and then track it down yourself.
It is not impossible. But worth the search.
I know you didn't ask about it, but IMO thumb keyboard is the best for our g tabs

I tried this, and while I like the large keys, I don't like the fact that it takes 100% of the screen up, absolutely useless for IMS or emails or almost anything else. I want something similar to the gingerbread keyboard but with taller, more square like buttons. I've tried using the TapaTalk or whatever it is on my VeganGinger install but it doesn't work at all.

The one-touch calibration app in this subforum did not work for me, but the calibrate.ini trick (where you put a blank file named calibration.ini in the root of your microSD card and reboot) did work for me. I was stabbing at icons left and right before (especially the home soft button, ARGH!), wanting to toss the Tab out the window, but now it's as sensitive as my Evo's screen.
Swype is easy to install if you find the right file. It doesn't really work all that well on a 10" in landscape mode though. You have to move your hand around too much to make it effective.
I have been using Thumb Keyboard from the Market. I can type with only my thumbs while holding the tablet in my hands. In landscape mode it puts each side of the keyboard close to the sides so the keys are easily reachable. In portrait mode I have it set to just give me the normal full keyboard. It works great and I highly recommend checking it out. It costs a buck or 2.
My only problem with Swype, at least the version I have, is that you cannot turn off the dictionary lookup auto correct. So if the word isn't in the dictionary (websites, usernames, etc...) swype will try to autocorrect to what it thinks it should be, or pop up the guesser window with nothing even close.
Also swype uses up the whole screen for many imput windows which isn't really needed on a tablet, but whatever.
I use SlideIT 3.2, works perfectly.
i just downloaded thumb keyboard. when i go in to language and keyboard, it wont let me populate the check box, enabling it.
it gives me the lil warning, then just wont check.
any help please?

tried swype but using slideit
I tried swype. i got it installed, then moved to /system/app but it wouldn't work other than as a normal keyboard. tried slide-it and it works great.
This alternative works really well. I had it for my previous 7" tablet but when I got the xoom it was no longer available. They now support the xoom and I've reinstalled it. Is from the makers of Dragon Naturally Speaking. It costs 4.95 but includes 4 input methods: swipe, voice input, writing (but not cursive) and typing.
I really like it when I have to take notes. It's pretty quick and is pretty good in swipe mode with adding the correct punctuation, though until you train it, it comes up with some pretty humorous (or irritating) guesses. Voice recognition is really quite good. For regular typing its fine but I prefer the Tablet keyboard (as it is just like a pc keyboard).
Consider checking this one out.

yeah. go to settings--language and input---keyboard settings-input settings-select "always show"
this is off the top off my head as i don't have the xoom with me at the moment. i believe that's what you do to have the keyboard icon show up in the notification bar whenever you start typing. u can hit that icon and an option to what keyboard you want to use will pop up. remember to check the boxes all the keyboards you want to use in the settings menu before you proceed or else the flext9 will not show up as an optional keyboard.
Im using an LG G-Slate but since there is no G-Slate forum here and the Xoom is the most popular ill ask here. Is there a way to get apps to work in both landscape positions? As in, the landscape where the front camera is ontop and the landscape where it is on the bottom. I know iPad apps all do this, which makes folio cases great because you can have different angles using different positions and still see the app, but there are very few Android phone/tablet apps that do aside from google books, gmail and the like. Im thinking this may be an in-app thing but if it is possible to do from the tablets setting or something that would be great!
Prime examples of apps that do not work in both landscape positions: all angry birds apps, distraction, bakery/restraunt story, NETFLIX
netflix and angry birds are the two that i would like to see working the most
Thanks in advance!

This has been affecting me as well. I've search a couple times since I've had my xoom but I have never found a solution. The case I have forces me to use the xoom upside down (with the camera at the bottom) if I want to use it to type on a desk. Otherwise, it sits upright for video playing. If there is a way to force an application to always be landscape-upside-down, that would be perfect. I doubt there is such a solution, though. The app that is the most furious for me is the new Dolphin Pad app. The browser itself works in either position, rightside up or upside down, but when you select the settings menu, it forces it to be rightside up. I have tried setting the screen to auto-rotate as well as locking the screen in only upside-down. Unfortunately those couple applications always force the screen to be rightside up no matter what. Almost always it does it with applications that were designed for the phone. Most tablet applications work either way.
I was asking precisely because i have a case coming in the mail that forces me to do the same thing. Its pretty irritating that ill have to hold onto the tablet to type because at the vert. Angle its too high to type. Or i can use a bluetooth keyboard but thats a hassle. And for airplanes and cramped spaces itd be nice to have the low-angle option to watch videos

I never noticed this until now... was reading this thread in dolphin "upside down" just fine, but like you it forced me to flip to get into settings... all other functionality seems OK, so my guess is it is an app Dev fix and not a zoom fix. I haven't noticed this in other apps' but will test a few tonight for the OP and report back.

When I wrote my game for a moment it worked in both landscape positions but then I broke it somehow. I think it is caused by using "landscape" instead of "horizontal" in layout or sth. Will be trying to fix it next week. But it also shows that it depends on the developer unfortunately. So you have to bugger him for every app that doesn't support it.
Man... i doubt any developer would listen to a single person asking for something like that haha it seems like too small an issue for many people to care

I'm struggling to get FarmVille2 working on the new Nexus 7 i bought for my good lady
Am i right in thinking that FB is detecting the device type as 'Tablet' and this is why it is forcing load of the FarmVille Express version, rather than the full game ?
If so, is there an easy way to change the device type to 'PC' or whatever to make it work ?
I remember that in order to get BBC iPlayer working on the HD2, it was a similar scenario, but involved an easy reg change, but guess this is different
Any help please ?

In browser, I presume?
In Chrome, you can click menu, then 'request desktop site'
In Firefox, you can download an addon 'Phoney' (I think this is what it's called), and set it to desktop.
I really don't know about other browsers.

I guess it will have to be FF Beta then ?
OK, update;
Can't get this working with FF Beta, Dolphin 8.5.1 nor Opera (Using Flash 11.1)
The closest i get is the game starts loading (with sound playing) but gets stuck at about half way. This is using FireFox Beta
Does anyone know of a definite way to get FV2 working on the N7, or have any other suggestion ? Perhaps a different browser/version of Flash ?
Many thanks

HTML STANDARDS cross platform compatility ISSUE
I think this is a similar issue as with Pogo games... My Better half would Love to play her Pogo games on her Android tablet.. I have tried nearly everything.. Even went thru talking to them on the pogo forums.. The bottom line is They do NOT SUPPORT the Android Flash/JAVA run time players.. Check some other flash game sites made for windows machines. You will see the same issue. This is one of the reasons there needs to be a HTML Standard for VIDEO/Animation on the net..
I would say your best best at this point is to go to Facebook support and see if there is any documentation about this. There could be a solution now.Its been many months since i tried doing exactly what you want. There was no solution at that time and no work being done to make it happen in sight..
My thoughts are until there is a True HTML Standard that all browsers and browser content MUST Comply with . We will have this type of issues. HTML 5 And then now 6 is supposed to be the issue.. People keep holding on to what they are using now. They do this to save dev. dollars. Until all back word compatibility in browsers are broken there will be NO True standard for cross platform games in a browser environment.
If you do find a solution Please let us all know..
Good Luck
