Android Wear App keeps crashing With the usual Unfortunately. ..message. Any ideas why?
Sent from my SM-N900W8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
This happened to me too repeatedly and out of the blue last night and continued on until the early afternoon... Now it seems to have fixed itself... Try uninstalling and reinstalling and restarting the phone
Clear app cache and app data, force close it and then re launch it. If that doesn't work uninstall it then reinstall.
what kind of phone are you using? custom rom/kernel, etc?
mine has been super stable since i installed it (one time it didn't want to connect to the phone but it has never crashed)

Do you happen to have a MS Exchange account logged onto your phone? If so, and I bet you do, that is what causes the issue. Something happens on the MS exchange server once per week (for me it's every Fri morning) that causes the Wear app to crash constantly. To test this, go into your accounts and remove your MS Exchange Activesync account and poof your wear app will function normally again. Otherwise just wait until the late morning and whatever happens will finish and wear will work normally again (with exchange logged in) until the same time next week ?
FYI, no amount of clearing cache or data or uninstalling will remedy this until either the exchange process is complete or you remove the exchange account temporarily.

Thank you this fixed it! Do we know what causes this? I would love to keep my exchange email.

I have no idea what causes this and I'm not the one who figured it out. There was one guy who figured this out. Since noticing this and confirming it I've emailed google and called them, etc, but they haven't returned NY emails yet. It will eventually go away usually the same day. You just have to put up with it for a few hours each week if you want to continue using your exchange on the phone. Then after the few hrs it ends up working fine again. That's what I do
Same problem and completely unacceptable...I require my exchange account every day for work, can't remove it and redo it once a week.
Until google resolves this it kills android wear devices for me.
Appointment
I had a recurring appointment coming up this morning at 9h, deleted the appointment, did an exchange sync and everything is working now.... I had deleted the yesterday occurrence of this appointment a few week back, maybe it don't handle this correctly.
Did any of you had any recurring appointment set on the day that the app started crashing?

I don't have any such exchange services, but still seem to be facing this same issue. Log reads something about a ExchangeSecurity issue... . I just got my G watch today.. haven't even been able to get passed the second screen.
Edit: was in fact my ROM, clean flashed a PA build... Worked like a charm.
I require exchange too, use "Touchdown" have had no issues.
This just started happening last week, I thought I got something out of whack on my device. I switched to a new device and the same problem cropped up, then I found this thread. I was able to workaround it for now by removing my account, then re-adding it but leaving off calendar sync. My guess is that I have some calendar event has a weirdly formatted contact which causes this problem.

Has anyone experienced gmail sync issues?
Mine works fine for a couple of hours after reboot. Then it doesn't automatically sync. I need to refresh to get the emails. I haven't located the reason why it stops synching.
I was hoping starting from scratch by reinstalling everything (even wiping out the data) with the latest ROM will fix it but didn't help.
Please help.

yes its happening to me too. Works initially but doesn't later on. How do i refresh it?
I was seeing the same thing the past 2 days. I did a refresh about 7 hours ago and gmail has been syncing ok since then. Not sure what's making it work/not work either.
incubus: to refresh, go into the gmail app and then press the menu button. You'll see the refresh button there.
I had this problem intermittently also, Then it just corrected itself.

yeah mine just started working right
You can also sync manually by going to settings>data syncronization> hit menu button and press "sync now"
or go into gmail hit menu/sync

Perhaps, it was the gmail server issue?
is anyone having issues with GMail messing up the contat pictures for your contacts. Mine has removed/replaced them with pics of people that the pic does not belong to. really pissing me off having to go through and updating the pictures every week.

no... mine have worked perfectly since the start. Have you gone onto gmail.com on a computer and reviewed the contacts in question to see if there is some kind of info messed up there?
This gmail sync issue is happening again intermittently. This is a bit annoying.
ive found the sync issues seem to be related to 1.6..
ive switched to 2.1 (and back and forth the last little while), and find the email sync issues only happen in 1.6

Thanks. I confirm this. After upgrading to 2.1, gmail sync works 100%.
Give this a try:

I'm crossposting this from the official N1 google forums in the hope that someone smarter than me knows an answer.
I installed the dev release of Froyo right when it was available and noticed immediately that my normal 48 hours of battery life had been reduced to ~ 5. Thinking it was just the development release I went back to Eclair and waited for the OTAs to happen. After FRF72 came out, I tried froyo again in conjunction with cyanogen's mod. I still had massive battery drain issues. I decided to wait more. After I heard that FRF91 would be final, I completely wiped the phone back to factory and let it OTA to FRF91. I then installed no mods, no kernels, used factory recovery, everything was factory (except the bootloader of course). I was STILL having massive battery issues. The phone essentially drains from full to 0 in less than 6 hours, and then when plugged in would take over 10 hours to charge to full.
I finally decided to try specifically removing features until I stopped having battery issues. I removed google apps, then all my contacts, then all features of the OS (animations etc) until my last step was stopping my push email from my work outlook server (this was hard for me as I use my phone all the time for work email).
As soon as I tried the phone without Exchange push the result was noticeable. I have even better battery life then I ever did with 2.1 and am now running Cyanogen 6.0 along with several other applications and maintaining excellent battery life. I am really torn though, as I need to have outlook access (and the calender sync is a much needed feature after coming from a blackberry). Am I doomed to run on Eclair forever?
What about sync frequency? Can you lower it?
Yeah that does suck though, I have two online IMAP mailboxes in K9 mail (and weather, google accounts, random other little stuff) and my idle battery usage is around 2%/hr.
I actually noticed this issue on 2.1 when I deleted an exchange account and got dramatically better battery life. I, too, had calendar sync enabled.

I had it set to push, which you would think is the least battery intensive. I have tried longer frequencies, but too long defeats the purpose, and the other settings didn't make a difference as fat as I could see.
Hmm... strange. Exchange push for me isn't that bad, I get about 20-25 hours of battery.
It's the Exchange NOT on push (5, 10 minute interval check) that destroys it. Every once in a while exchange sync process would go into a CPU death-spiral, taking up 100% CPU ALL THE TIME, until I manually kill the process. Needless to say, battery is just destroyed like that.
So as for me, I'm stuck to have to use Push on Exchange =(
have push enabled on my exchange address for work and its still about the same ~20-24 hours.
This is a technical issue that has already been identified with Google.
We have three code tickets that relate to this. Mine was with the SSL certificates. The way that Froyo handles SSL on exchange with or without push can create an infinite loop. This loop keeps your CPU and 3G running constantly.
I have worked with Google to address these issues and they have added the item to the Future Release.
I promise you, this is an identified bug that has been fixed in the future releases.

Thats really good news, thanks. I spoke to a guy at google tech support and got a "huh what" kind of response.
since its an issue that will be fixed later...
have you tried setting up a task killer that will kill exchange every x amount of hours. since its the cpu death lopp that's draining the bat and exchange should restart itself, closing it every x hrs should give you somewhat of a useable phone...
I would create a second gmail account. Have your work email forwarded there, and then see if you can get your exchange calendar to sync to that secondary google account as well. Then just stick to the pushed gmail. I currently have two set up and its working fine, although I did not have to link the calendars.

Ok, I didn't see that mentioned. If that is your case, I would get a blackberry than. I need my work email. 6 hours of battery life does not cut it, I hope google fixes this soon. I have seen careers ruined by the iphone 3g.
I can confirm I have this issue as well. I hope Google fixes this quick as its a pretty serious flaw with an important feature.

If you are rooted there is a libactivator.so you can push to your phone that fixes the issue.
A few weeks ago I noticed my battery wouldn't last more than 6 hours. After a lot of troubleshooting, I found that gmail was the cause because it wouldn't stop syncing. Confirmed of course after deleting gmail for a couple of days.
But I really would like to keep the account on my phone. I set up that account again and for a few days it seemed fine, but my phone is constantly warm to the touch again and the battery just died... this time it hadn't even been 6 hours.
Has anyone else experienced this recently?
I'm on a lumia 1020 with black update.

What are your sync settings for your Gmail account? Since WP8, we couldn't set Gmail to sync "As Items Arrive", or push status. Could set as often as 15 minute only. Are there large files and/or attachments coming through?

I know, and I have it set to 15 minutes. I get a few photos every now and then but nothing out of the ordinary that should cause this. And as far as volume goes.... maybe 50 emails a day including the typical spam/promos that don't get filtered properly.

That's strange, on my ATIV S i don't occur that kind of problem, but i am not having my data turned on all the time. I turn it on just when i need to check something on internet or where there is no wi-fi spot around. And in email and accounts for Gmail i have the options "As They Arrived" to "Manualy", and ofcorse i chose "Manualy", I think we have to address this issue at Microsoft and Gmail together.
Push it to 30min for a day or two. See if that helps.
Didnt' make any changes. But it stopped doing it. So not gonnna keep digging, it was a hassle in the first place trying to figure out the cause over a couple of weeks. All I can say was deleting the account and adding it helped the first time. the 2nd time not sure. Oh well.
Hi guys,
I recently changed from a nexus 5 and the phone is super nice. Of course, hardware > software.
In any case, I noticed a starting a few days back that I do not get gmail push notifications as they come.
Meaning, I have to pull to refresh. This also means that I do not get new gmail notifications.
I did some fiddling around with the settings and it wasn't set to notify me for all new mail but even with this on, I don't get timely notifications.
I did further research and noticed that I get my notifications on wifi but not on regular data.
-edit-
I tried it again and now both wifi and data are not reliable. I'm on a hotel wifi connection so I expected this but I wasn't expecting this from the data.
Has anyone heard of the S6edge having possible radio/modem issues? If so, I'm going to go exchange this device for another s6e.
I'm really hoping that it doesn't come to that and that it's a software issue more than hardware.
The thing is, I don't know if anyone knows but the same thing above happens to me with an application called kakao talk (a korean version of whatsapp)
I don't get push notifications and when I open the app I get bombarded with messages.
After opening the app and then closing it, I get updates like normal.
I can't figure this out. Do any one of you have any suggestions?
I don't get notifications for gmail or inbox either, everything is turned on. It was bothering me before but I got used to it . I use kakao religiously but with notifications off..I'll tick then on and see

I couldn't wait and I just factory reset my phone.
Gmail notifications come as they should without me having to manually refresh the feed.
Yesterday morning I was on wifi and kakao notifications came in time as well, but I forgot to try this on the network and slept after turning it off last night.
This morning I woke up a little earlier than my alarm and noticed no notifications thinking I didn't get any.
However as soon as my alarm rang and I turned it off, notifications started coming.
Am I going insane? The device seems to go into some network sleep mode and will only start connecting once it's literally awaken.
I'm trying to rule out app bug, software bug, but most importantly, if this is a hardware bug.
If this is a hardware issue, I only have about a week to exchange it.

Disable and uninstall (updates) google play services. Later on you can re-update google play services. I know this is same as doing a factory reset but it is worth a try. I did the same to fix mine.

You are not losing your mind, this is a software bug and others have this issue as well especially with google related products.
I have noticed over some time that whenever my Google account syncs it causes my CPU to run over 90% and my phone to become extremely slow. I took off two factor authentication and readded my account after reading about it as a possible fix online and it still does it. I'm not sure if I should just bite the bullet and do a factory reset. Has anyone run into this problem before and have a possible fix for it? The issue makes the phone unusable for about 10-15 minutes sometimes.
This used to be a problem on my old phone HTC One M8 and after a factory reset it still did it which is why I'm hesitant to try this again. This makes me wonder if it is a possible account issue but I can't seem to figure out what.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Every phone or rom install I've ever had does this if you sync everything at the same time, a factory reset will most likely not change this. Now if its just doing this randomly like when gmail grabs your emails or something small like that then there might be a problem but if you go into the accounts menu and press "sync now" that's normal.
odd.. i always have everything enabled to sync, and have never experienced this issue. on every android phone that ive owned as well. the nexus 6 has never slowed down while syncing stuff here.
@StykerB do you know of any fix for this? I would think the Nexus 6 has the hardware to support background syncing without suffering from a slowdown.
@StykerB this occurs in the background. I don't ever press sync now.
Well the slow down comes from the syncing using your cpu as much as it can which leaves less or no cpu for the rest of the phone so if the syncing just arbitrarily used less cpu then you're phone would run smoother but the syncing would theoretically go slower.
But if the slowdowns are from just regular background syncing (you aren't force syncing everything) then a factory reset might fix it but try deleting and re-adding your account(s) first
I already readded but it still does it sometimes. However there are times (like now) where the phone runs great. I just wish that it would be like this all the time.
