Description:
Your warranty is now void.
I am not responsible if you brick your phone during the process.
Flash it at your own risk.
Sony’s mid range device Xperia T has been recently updated to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. In the recent past Sony remained quite fair with the users in terms of Software updates keeping its promise at top, the Android Jelly Bean 4.3 update started reaching out the users taking the device one stop close to KitKat that is under investigation / testing by Sony at the moment. Well, the new firmware definitely needs new methods to run a CWM Recovery inside and a new method to get rooted as well. For those who have updated their devices to this new firmware and are now looking for a compatible CWM recovery, they have spotted the right place at the moment.
Here are some important installation instructions and pre-requisites:
This guide is only for Sony Xperia T. Do not try this on any other model, please check your device’s model in Settings > About Device.
The CWM recovery is only for Sony Xperia T running stock or stock based Android 4.3 [9.2.A.1.199] or [9.2.A.0.295].
Check your firmware version in Settings > About Device and make sure that it matches the one mentioned above.
You must have installed Android ADB & Fastboot drivers. Follow this link http://techbeasts.com/2013/12/18/install-android-adb-fastboot-drivers-quickly-with-minimal-tool-on-windows-pc/.
Your device must have an unlocked bootloader. Follow this link to unlock bootloader http://techbeasts.com/2013/12/18/how-to-unlock-bootloader-of-sony-xperia-devices-guide/
Please make sure that your phone’s battery is charged at least over 60%. This is highly recommended in order to prevent any power issues during the recovery flashing process.
Backup all your important data before flashing CWM.
Backup your current system using a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) if you’ve flashed one. This is recommended in case something goes wrong with CWM installation, you can use the custom recovery and return to the old working state of your system.
Enable USB debugging mode on your device. Get it in Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging mode.
Use working data cable to establish connection between your PC and Phone.
Alright! Follow this guide to the letter now.
How to Install CWM Recovery on Sony Xperia T:
Download Stock Kernel with CWM Recovery here http://www.mediafire.com/download/xwjdwcmpomn6wth/kernel_sj.elf
You will get a kernel_sj.elf file. Just rename it to Kernel.elf
Place the Kernel.elf file in the Minimal ADB & Fastboot folder that you created using our ADB & Fastboot Quick Setup Guide.
If you are using Android ADB & Fastboot full package, you can place the downloaded Kernel.elf file in the Fastboot folder or in the Platform-tools folder.
Open the folder where you placed the Kernel.elf file.(E.g Minimal ADB & Fastboot or Fastboot or Platform Tools).
Press and hold the shift key and right click on an empty area within the folder, and click on “Open Command Window Here”.
Turn off your Xperia T completely.
Now press the Volume Up Key and while keeping it pressed plug in the USB cable.
You should see a blue light in the notification light of your phone, that means your device is now connected in Fastboot mode.
Now type the following command: fastboot flash boot Kernel.elf
Hit Enter and it will quickly flash CWM recovery in your Sony Xperia T.
Once recovery is flashed, now issue this command Fastboot Reboot
Your device will reboot now(even if your device does not reboot do it manually). As soon as you see the Sony logo, and the pink LED, press Volume Up key to enter recovery.
Congrats! You should now see the custom recovery.
That’s All with the recovery installation. In case you got any queries or face any difficulties regarding this post, please feel free to stop by the comment box below and let me know. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks all.

Hi everyone!
I just updated to JB yesterday and the battery life sucks so much. This is going to be annoying for me. So I am thinking about installing CyanogenMod. But before that, I have some questions:
1. Must I unlock the bootloader? (My phone is unbranded.)
2. After relocking the bootloader, can I still get warranty from Sony? And can I still repair my phone and get updates using PC Companion?
3. How is the battery life, performance and some other features of CM10.1?
That's all I have to ask now. I will appreciate everyone's help. Thanks in advance!

I have the LT30p(T) i installed CM few days ago, and i must say i love it much more than normal Xperia android. But answering your questions;
1. you MUST unlock bootloader.
2. Not sure, but i guess not. (but you dont use your warranty so why care.. If anything gets broken with the hardware warranty doesnt work, and if its something with software we can fix it here.)
3. Battery life i guess is better.
Hope i helped you.

Wow! This is detailed. But I still have a few questions.
1. How to use cmd to get to the fastboot file and the boot.img? (Assuming I extract the files to Desktop) And what for?
2. After unlocking my bootloader, if I brick my phone, can I still flash a stock JB firmware into my phone and get repair using PC Companion?
3. Should I type these in the cmd? "fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY", "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and "fastboot reboot"?
4. What did you mean by "drivers map flashtool install fastboot drivers(scroll down when opening installer), search fastboot (file) in flashtool, in that map place the boot.img"
5. I checked the FreeXperia site, everything's working on CM10.1. Is it still considered as unstable?
Sorry for asking so many questions. This is because I just bought this phone not long ago and I don't want to brick it and cannot repair it. So I will need a lot of details to make sure everything goes well. I appreciate your help! =]
All these instructions and answers to your questions are available in the all in one thread, I suggest you read it before doing anything to your phone. Then you can ask in that thread

1. via windows explorer go to your dekstop (users->ACCOUNTS->Desktop) and click on the top where you see the adress and copy it. then in cmd write "C: *what you copied*"
2.Bricking your phone is very hard to do, soft bricking happens more often and yes you can easily flash via flashtool BUT after unlocking bootloader PCC wont recognize your phone, so know how to use Flashtool (NOT THE SONY ONE NORMAL ONE)
3. yes but first get to the directory of your boot.img to make it easier, after that just write all of those.
4. After you have installed Flashtool go to : Flashtool\Drivers\Flashtooldrivers.exe open that and after pressing next scroll down to fastboot drivers.
5. http://goo.im/devs/tilal6991/roms/mint/cm-10.1/cm-10.1-20130421-UNOFFICIAL-mint.zip i installed this one (also with gapps ofcourse) and it works really well 0 crashes!
Disclaimer: This procedure involves a higher risk than normal to brick your device. If you are not really familiar with flashtool please do not attempt to do this! I am not resposible for bricked devices, World War III or your exploding cats!
Also you acknowledge this points:
- This tutorial includes flashing the system partition of a firmware that is for a different device (Z3 Phone D6603)
- At some point your screen will not display anything
- This will not work on non-LTE versions of the Tablet (SGP611 and SGP612). Instructions for SGP611 can be found there.
- You also will loose all of you data, so please make a Backup.
If you are still sure you want to do this then here are the Steps:
1. Get the firmware ftf (SGP621_23.0.1.A.0.167_CE.ftf) for the SGP621 (for example from here or here)
2. Get a vulnerable firmware ftf (D6603_23.0.A.2.93_Generic_20GLOBAL.ftf) for the Xperia Z3 D6603 (for example from here or here)
3. Get the patched giefroot version for our device here
4. Open Flashtool and select flash. Then select flashmode and press OK
5. Select the 23.0.A.2.93 firmware and select to NOT wipe anything (see Picture 1). In the Exclude mark everything BUT system then start the flash process. If you do something wrong here you ran a VERY HIGH risk of bricking your device permanently
6. Put your device in flash mode (hold volume down and plug the device in) -> Wait until flash is finished and restart your device
7. Start your device - you'll notice black bars on the left and right of the picture
8. It should boot up and display lots of errors, but still function
9. Go into Settings -> Backup and Reset -> Factory data reset and make a factory reset from there (It seems wiping in flashtool does not work for some people)
10. Do initial configuration and select enable adb debug and allow mock location in developer options
11. Select Security -> Unknown Sources (If you do not do this, giefroot will not work)
12. Open a shell/command prompt and try if adb shell works and brings you to your device <- This step is important because here you authorize the device for adb access that you need later, please select to authorize the connected computer permanently when asked to do so
13. Open Flashtool and select flash. Then select flashmode and press OK
14 Select the 23.0.A.2.93 firmware and select to NOT wipe anything (see Picture 2). In the Exclude mark everything BUT kernel then start the flash process. If you do something wrong here you ran a VERY HIGH risk of bricking your device permanently
15. Put your device in flash mode (hold volume down and plug the device in) -> Wait until flash is finished and restart your device
16. Start your device and notice that the Screen stays pitch black, but you can hear the starting Sound
17. Once the tablet has started, go into the folder where you extracted giefroot and launch the install.bat
18. Wait till it is finished and tells you that you achived root (The device will reboot once while rooting, this is normal)
19. Open Flashtool and select flash. Then select flashmode and press OK
20. Select the SGP621_23.0.1.A.0.167_CE.ftf. Select to NOT wipe anything (see Picture 3). In the Exclude mark everything BUT kernel then start the flash process.
21. Put your device in flash mode (hold volume down and plug the device in) -> Wait until flash is finished and restart your device
22. Congratulation. After rebooting you should have a rooted SGP621 with the system of a D6603.
23. Now backup your TA with the tool from here
24. Unlock the bootloader via the instructions from Sony here. Do this only if you have your TA partition backed up!
To install CyanogenMod 12 nightly:
25. Download a CM12 nightly build from here.
26. Unpack the boot.img from the downloaded zip file
27. Go into fastboot mode (press volume up and plug device into computer until led flashes blue).
28. Issue 'fastboot flash boot /path/to/boot.img'
29. Issue 'fastboot reboot'
30. Once the led gets purple press volume down to get into recovery
31. Select install -> install via adb
32. Issue 'adb sideload /path/to/downloaded-zip.zip'
33. Wipe data and cache
34. Reboot and enjoy CyanogenMod
To install rooted Stock:
25. Open Flashtool and select flash. Then select flashmode and press OK
26. Select the SGP621_23.0.1.A.0.167_CE.ftf. Leave everything as it is and start the flash process.
27. Put your device in flash mode (hold volume down and plug the device in) -> Wait until flash is finished and restart your device
28. Get the advanced stock kernel from here, boot into fastboot mode, execute 'fastboot flash boot /path/to/the/Z3TC-stock-twrp.img'
29. Download RicDefeat from here.
30. Reboot the device and while booting once the led goes purple press the volume down key.
31. In the recovery tap on Advanced and Install with ADB and swipe to activate ADB
32. Issue 'adb sideload /path/to/RICDefeat.zip' (If sideloading does not work, put the zip file on your sd card and install it from there)
33. After that is finished, exit the recovery. It will ask you if you want to root. Answer yes and exit.
34. Open Flashtool again and select flash. Then select flashmode and press OK
35. Select the SGP621_23.0.1.A.0.167_CE.ftf. Select to NOT wipe anything (see Picture 3). In the Exclude mark everything BUT kernel then start the flash process.
36. Put your device in flash mode (hold volume down and plug the device in) -> Wait until flash is finished and restart your device
37. Restore your TA Backup and enjoy root on stock.
Congratulations, you now have a rooted device with either stock or CM12
Update Log
Update 1: I verified that Backup of TA works by reflashing it and checking if DRM is still intact in Service Menu.
Update 2: Changed instructions so wiping is done from the booted firmware directly, because for some users it was not possible to flash userdata from flashtool
Update 3: Added step 11 to enable Unknown Sources as otherwise giefroot will not work
Update 4: Added mirrors for the ftf files
Update 5: Added information to step 12 because it is important to authorize the device
Update 6: Added tutorial link
Update 7: Added tutorial for stock and CM12
Update 8: Update cause new giefroot is able to root our kernel
Thanks to zxz0O0 for giefroot and DevShaft for TA Backup
Good Luck and Have Fun

The instructions are very detailed, if you aren't that smart, as you put it, you should not do this process.
I don't know if I will have time to make a video, but I will do some screenshots in a few hours once I am back on my PC
rooting
i suggest taking out variables and automate the entire rooting process. i.e creating a .bat file or program.
why?
i dare say there will be noobs who will screw up the process and brick their tablets.then come crying in xda asking for solutions.
we are dealing with a fw frm another device(even though its in the same family) so there are bound to be risks involved.might as well preempt the possibility of dealing with a grief stricken noob and jus write a rooting progam....
need help with errors
lowtraxx can you tell me what's going on here. I've tried 4 times and I get this error. could you tell what am I doing wrong. I have been following you instructions but I cant get pass the first stage.

It seems system flashes okay, but the wipe of userdata fails. Could you please try to instead of wiping everything to wipe nothing and only flash system. After that reboot the tablet and you should get a normal bootup with lots of errors. Then go into Settings -> Backup and Reset and make a factory data reset. Then after that finished the tablet reboots and you should get no more errors. Then follow the rest of the steps.
Update: I also changed the tutorial to reflect that problem.

hi I have run into a little problem after rooting and trying to flash the spg621 rom back it looks like it doesn't and still on z3 and wifi and Bluetooth wont work any idea?
---------- Post added at 10:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:55 AM ----------
when running on cmd giefroot when it says press any key to continue do I just let it be or do I press any key
Follow the giefroot instructions and press a key. For the Wifi and Bluetooth issues; If you flash a update zip you will need to do a factory reset, because otherwise your device could act funny, as configuration data from the D6603 is still there and needs to be erased.

Do not despair. It works, as proven by the people in this thread. You will work it out. For flashing to rooted stock use the tutorial from @CubicU07 in this post.
well I did manage to root even thought I took me some time. but thanks to you lowtraxx I was able to root and backup TA next I will follow his instructions for unloched BL then restore. thanks
Hello, did anybody got it work with the 32gb wifi modell? Thanks a lot

I also managed to get back to rooted stock via the following steps after obtaining root:
1. Backup TA partition using Backup TA.
2. Return to stock unrooted by flashing the SGP621 rom using FlashTool without changing any of the options.
3. Unlock the bootloader (There are various ways to do this, including using FlashTool, just Google for it).
4. Flash the Advanced Stock Kernel by krabappel2548 using FlashTool in FastBoot mode.
5. Download the SuperSU.
6. Using PRFCreator on the SGP621 rom and the SuperSU zip, create a flashable stock rom zip.
7. Copy the resulting zip onto your device.
8. Boot into TWRP on your device and flash the zip.
9. Once complete, restore the TA partition using TA Backup
Note: Restoring TA partition without going back to stock kernel will soft brick your device, thus the need for steps 5 to 8 to return to stock kernel, while retaining root at the same time. This however, means that you lose custom recovery. So if you prefer having custom recovery over getting your DRM keys back into the device and restoring functionality like X-Reality, then skip steps 5 to 9 altogether..
Update: Unfortunately, after a bit of testing, I realized that the root I ended up with, following steps I listed, was not properly installed. I wasn't able to mount system in R/W mode in Root Explorer nor install BusyBox and it seemed like the only way I could make changes to files in the system was via ADB. Since I have no experience at all in Android programming, I'm striking out steps 5 - 9 until someone finds a solution to this. Sorry for anyone who tried this.

You need to disable Sony's RIC write protection by inserting the proper kernel module. Look here if the precompiled one works for you. With that you should be able to use the stock kernel (TA intact) WITH r/w to system.
Hey there. I'm having a bit of an issue regarding the recovery on my phone. I rooted it quite some time ago but now I'd like to upgrade it to Kitkat 4.4.4 but when I try to enter recovery mode, it just boots normally. I have installed ROM Manager some time ago and I believe I may have changed my recovery, but it was either CWM or TWRP so there's nothing else. I tried using the "Boot into recovery" option but the phone won't go into recovery. I tried many different combinations upon boot but none have worked. Can someone help me, I'm running 4.3 9.2.A.1.210. I have USB Debugging enabled.
Cheers.
Most (or even all) of the custom roms have built-in recovery. So, if you want to flash some custom rom, you extract the "boot.img" from the zip and flash it via FlashTool using fastboot mode (to put Xperia V into fastboot mode hold volume up button while connecting the phone to tbe pc and the led should turn blue. If it turns green then try holding the other volume button.). And then you just select the lightning icon in FlashTool, choose fastboot mode, on the right side in the middle is an option to flash kernel and just find the boot.img you extracted and select it. Keep in mind that your bootloader must be UNLOCKED and you must install fastboot drivers before doing this.
Btw...your phone will stay in the fastboot mode only for a couple of seconds so you have to be quick...I always find the boot.img first, then put my phone into fastboot mode and then just select the image to flash it.
Sent from my Xperia V using XDA Free mobile app
Hi all,
A few years ago (well when the devices has pretty much just come out), I ran a mod which i found on the XDA website that allowed me to root my partners Xperia T (LT30P),
Everything has been fine until recently, where I've wanted to upgrade the ROM on the phone, but this is where i'm having some major problems.!
Essentially I cant get the phone to boot into either Flash mode (green LED) or Fastboot mode (Blue LED). I've tried the volume down and then connecting the USB cable to my PC (on which the correct drivers are installed via Flashtool). and also the volume up for Fastboot. Neither work. Unsure if the phone has an unlocked bootloader or if that matters (im a Samsung man and used to working with that, so all the Xperia modding is totally new to me... :/
So far ive tried the following:
-Volume down key and plugging into USB port - Result: Phone remains switched off.
-Volume up key pressed in and then plugging into USB port. - Result: Phone remains switched off
-Enabled USB debugging and attempted to boot the phone into flash mode via ADB (Flashtool option). Phone simply reboots.
-Attempted inbuilt software update - Update downloads, but fails at 25% approx when it reboots and attempts the install.
-PC companion equally unsuccessful on my PC, as cant enable flash mode.
I'm totally at a loss at how to flash a fresh complete build (using a ftf file) to the phone without access to flash mode or fastboot mode. Anyone got any idea or know of any tools that might allow me to to completely rebuild the phone so all partitions are present and correct?
One idea i had was to flash a recovery to the phone using FlashR or alike, but cant seem to get it to work either. Flashr looks to install the twrp recovery, but when i attempt to reboot into recovery via Flashr or Rom Manager (another tool i use but not sure if useable on xperia phones?), the phone simply reboots. SOunds like a damaged or wiped partition perhaps?
Anyhoo , any ideas would be welcome guys! Too good a phone to just leave in the drawer
Cheers
Craig.
Cant you flash a boot.img (maybe from cm11 or something) with inbuilt recovery? You can use this for flashing
Ok, I've started writing this reply and lost everything near the end, started freaking out, calmed down and decided to do it again, cause I know what it's like to have a phone that's not behaving as it should. So here goes the shorter-ish version cause I really can't type everything again...
Make sure your volume buttons are working at all (I mean when the phone is booted). They work? good, procced. They don't? we can bypass that, but you, should get them fixed.
Got to this thread and download the latest build of the ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-t-v/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-neo-s-homebuilds-t2984988
Extract the boot.img file from the zip and copy it to the root of your external micro sdcard, NOT IN A FOLDER. If you don't have an sdcard, put in on the internal storage, again, not in a folder.
Root your phone if you haven't. There are plenty of threads on that here on xda
Download an app called Terminal Emulator from the Play Store
Open the app and type su into the prompt.
Grant the app superuser/root access
The following step is the dangerous one where you can seriously break your phone forever. I'm not responsible for anything you mess up. You alone chose to do this
Run the following command in the terminal (be sure that the $ at the end of the line changed to a # (That means you're in root shell, but it's not important))
If you don't have an external sdcard type sdcard0 instead of sdcard1
Code:
dd if=/storage/sdcard1/boot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/Kernel
Connect the phone to a PC with fastboot drivers installed
Next execute this command and your phone should now boot into fastboot
Code:
reboot bootloader
If a blue LED lights up, you can happily continue flashing kernels and ROMs, if not report back and I'll see if I can help you
Cheers gents. Going to give this a shot tonight. I read last night that some builds out there where you cannot unlock the bootloader (which you can check via service menu)? Is that now bypassable?

No and it probably never will be. It's hardcoded on the chip. If your phone is bought with a contract binding or it's limited to a single provider, then chances are that you will never be able to unlock the bootloader and flash kernels. It could be that you not being able to get into fastboot is because it's restricted on the device itself [citation needed]. In that case you're screwed and can pretty much forget the whole custom kernel thing. Only ROMs for locked bootloaders
New member here. I just got the phone today, and it's activated, running 5.0. When I check for an update, it shows that there is one, and I download the update. However, after the phone restarts to begin the update, it stops on the system installation screen (it says "error" very quickly, and the android falls over). When the phone restarts, it says that the update couldn't be installed. I've wiped the cache and have done a factory reset, but neither work. Any help would be much appreciated.
Update: Tier 2 tech support from Verizon says the phone has been rooted (I bought the phone used). Is there any way to completely unroot the phone?
Usually a root program can unroot the phone, like if that phone have the root program "SuperSu" on it, there is an unroot function within the program. However, this is not recommended, when the rooting is done and you don't know what the original owners did, there are probably other system files that were changed and the OTA update will detect it and it won't work regardless.
What you should do is flash the factory stock firmware for the device. This will completely return the phone to stock 5.0 and also erase everything in the phone:
1. Download the adb/fastboot files, which is the program used to flash firmwares to android devices:
http://rootjunkysdl.com/?device=Adb Fastboot Files
2. Download the Verizon 5.0 stock firmware:
http://rootjunkysdl.com/?device=Moto X 2014&folder=Official Firmware
3. Download and install the Motorola fastboot driver:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59139823&postcount=2
4. Boot the phone into fastboot mode:
While the phone is turned off, press and hold Vol - and Power. Release Power while still holding Vol - and you will see the bootloader menu appears. Connect the phone to the computer and leave it on this menu, here you can use fastboot commands.
Your computer will begin to install the fastboot driver for your phone right now, go to Computer's Device Manager and make sure you see in top of the list "Android device" and then "Motorola ADB Interface" below it, or something very similar related to ADB.
5. Extract both the files from the ADB/Fastboot files (step 1) and files from the Verizon firmware (step 2) into the same folder. Run the batch file "XT1096_5.0_LXE22.46.11_cid2_CFC.xml.bat", it will run a series of commands that will wipe the phone and install the stock firmware. If all the commands ran successfully you have a fresh install like out of the box.
Note: In the bat file, there is a command called "fastboot erase userdata", this command delete all of the user's apps and files, if you want to keep them you can delete that line from the bat file, however, you might get an error later on if your apps data does match with the version of the firmware you just flashed on the phone (in which case you can have to boot into recovery and wipe data (which will wipe everything) or wipe cache to fix the errors.
6. After installation is done, press Vol+ to select "Normal Power up". For some goofy reason, Vol+ is the select key Motorola phones, not Power. Now you can try doing the OTA update again.
Warning: Do not install the older version firmware (4.4.4) to your phone. There are reports from people who downgrade the version on their Motorola and when they receive over the air update it hard brick their device.
