My work has free wifi and I have never been able to get logged in to use it with my G1. It has a page where you accept a useage policy then it redirects you to the companies home page. On the G1 it gets to the page where it says redirecting then it gets stuck and it has to get to the next page before it is allowed to browse anywhere else. Yesterday my friend tried for the first time with his Droid and it went right through the whole process without a problem and was browsing on the wifi easily.
Is there an upgrade to the browser with 2.0 that is allowing it to get through better? So if I upgraded my G1 to 2.0 it would work? That is the only thing I can think of. Any other thoughts?
have you tried some of the third party browsers on the market / online.
Of the top of my head you have three.
Steel
Dolphin
Opera Mini (Opera mobile is in beta i beleive but not avalable to the public yet)
Thanks for the suggestion. None of them get any further than the stock Android browser on the G1. I had my friend who has a Cliq give it a shot as well and his gets stuck on the same spot as mine at the "redirecting" point. Like I said though, the Droid on the 2.0 browser just speeds on through and doesn't get stuck when redirecting. I am thinking about tossing a 2.0 rom on my G1 and testing to see if it fixes that problem.
What ROM are you running?
I remember this has been an issue since launch, however I just tried with the stock browser and it worked just fine this time. I will have to use more work WiFi now that I know it works. I am on the Dwang 1.15 rom.
It looks like Cyanogen has got the Eclair browser working in his latest build (not out yet)

Use devicescape/easy wifi
Load an app called easyWIFI on your G1 (used to be Devicescape) It is specifically set up to bypass those login pop-ups that you can't get to on most mobile browsers. I've been using it on my Nokia S60s for a couple years and it's great.
You can even use it with 'hard' logins, like Starbucks, and with secure wep/wpa/wpa2 routers. You can load it on your PC too.

Thanks for the tips. I will check out that Easywifi app.
I had been using TheOfficial DONUT rom and was unable to get past that screen in the browser. This past weekend I loaded the latest CYN rom that is apparently using the 2.0 browser. Doing this allowed me to get through the browser authorization screen 100%. This seems to confirm that the problem was simply with the pre2.0 browser, since CYN with 2.0 browser and a droid can access it just fine.
I have to say that I prefer TheOfficial DONUT rom over the CYN roms. I went months with no Force Closes on The official rom and with CYN I always seem to get more and also have issues with apps working properly. I assume that it is partly due to the CYN rom being so customized and probably some opperator error in there too.
I hope at this point that somebody works something out that allows us to install the 2.0 browser in any 1.6 rom. That way I could use TheOfficial DONUT but have the 2.0 browser too. Not the end of the world if this doesn't happen though.
Thanks again for the tips and feedback.
A new version of the Mozilla Firefox browser for Android has been released, under the company’s “Fennec” codename. As well as browsing, Mozilla have also whipped up a version of Weave to synchronize bookmarks, history, passwords and tabs between the desktop and mobile versions.
There are a couple of issues to bear in mind – this is an pre-alpha release, after all – with the biggest limitation being that the browser currently requires Android 2.0 or above. You’ll also probably need to have an OpenGL ES 2.0 capable device, you can’t open links from other apps in Fennec as yet, and there are bugs that will chomp through your available memory and likely end up forcing you to reboot the phone altogether.
Still, if you want to give it a try then head into your Android phone’s settings, check the option that allows you to install non-Android Market apps, and then head here for the package. Initial feedback seems to be that the UI needs some work, especially when trying to scroll without triggering the browser’s controls.

Update location in Google still does not work
i guess we should wait couple of days before showing up in the market.
I have a couple of things to report:
Heavy pages most of the time gives an out of memory message then the browser close,ie9 works fine
The browser won't remember any of the history...
Version is 2.4 and device is lumia800.
This release is 2.5 Dum3! Update it and it might resolve your issues.

I know it is 2.5,but it is not yet available in the market...Will surely update when it will be
Thunder mode stopped working a while ago. App is practically useless without this functionality as UC's main draw is reduced data usage. Kudos to the UC team for effort expended but u really need to urgently address this long outstanding glitch
Still not in the market...

Tried 2.5 but it still says location unavailable when I log into Google
Also the browser needs an exit option as you have to keep backing all the way before it says do you want to exit
But thanks anyway
Since I got on Android Pie (official release; phone isn't rooted, Exynos), I've noticed something strange going on with Samsung Internet's download manager.
When I try to download a file - for example, from APKMirror (or any other site for that matter) - the usual file confirmation dialogue pops up. However, when I click DOWNLOAD, the download doesn't appear to initiate properly. That is, when I pull down the notification shade, I can see that the download is paused even though I didn't pause it myself and, when I click resume, it shows the progress bar for a short while, then the notification suddenly disappears and it's gone. I've tried it for multiple files. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
EDIT: It seems like for whatever reason, both the latest release channels for Sammy Internet and Google Chrome on Google Play have file download issues.
I tried the Sammy Beta and it works just fine. It's kind of strange that Sammy would release its Pie update with an incompatible browser in its release channel -- not to mention, the current release edition isn't even on One UI like the Beta. Not everyone would think of using the Beta.
EDIT 2: The Sammy IB release on the Galaxy Apps store works fine as well and is styled in One UI fashion. Again, it's strange that the Pie patch didn't include an updated Browser.
Experiencing the same issue.
It only occurs for me when i set the save location of the downloads to SD card.
Both on Google Chrome (stable) and Samsung internet (default)
Same , I blamed pie.

Off topic, but saw your location. Brought up some memories playing paintball at Gotcha at the Alpadi Estate when visiting family. It's been a few years, but I can't wait to get back there.
Ok, carry on.
Had similar issues with Chrome, turning off the storage permission off and back on fixed it for me a couple times now.
Facing same issue.. Any updates?
The major irritation for me is when pasting something to the search bar. Try it and see what happens.View attachment 4731466

Try clearing cache & data to return all settings to stock in the browser. Then before launching Make sure to enable ALL permissions, and turn off any battery optimization or power saving features and see if that helps. Maybe app is being paused by power saving settings, or if you are letting screen shut off and go into sleep this could be an issue too. I use ADM because of the auto-resume & multithreaded downloads to get top speeds. My browser on pie works fine, used sammy, chrome, opera, and duckduck. No issues on my snapdragon SM-N960W of this sort. Best of luck finding a fix.
We work with Samsung often. The issue is of downloads paused or fail is involved with how security properties are stacked, while Samsung Browser node connections recognized. Set all the permissions off, all of them. Then go to download a image on the net and with Samsung Browser asking by pop up to turn on storage permissions then is fixed. Notice there is many suggestions how to fix on the net and most will not work.
I am really hating the Pie update. Has really made my phone less functional and convenient for my daily use.
Issue 1:
While playing YouTube or other videos off of websites from the Samsung internet browser, they keep randomly pausing after 5 or 10 seconds....
Any suggestions as to why or a fix? Beyond frustrating.
Issue 2:
Also, the defualt video player through the internet browser is severally lacking...
On Oreo with my S9+ and even on the Note 9 before the update it worked much better in many ways.
When I played a video from a website using the stock samsung internet browser it had these important funtions.
1. Had a fast foward and rewind button.
2. Had an option to minimize the video so you could multi task and adjust the video to any size or position on your screen so you could play any video while working on or using another app.
3. It had an option to allow you to stretch the video to the FULL size of the screen without any noticable distortion. That way you can use the full screen you paid big money for. Its ridiculous to think that my S9+ essentially allows me to watch videos on a larger screen vs the Note 9 because of this.
Is there a way to change the default video player that the Samsung web browser uses???? That way I can truly have full screen or be able to play the videos in the background while I use other apps.
Thanks.

Issue #1 what speeds/connection are you getting, such as data 2g/3g/lte, or wifi up/down speeds. try using speedtest.net to see if it's slow, maybe your connection is slow causing browser to keep buffering.
Issue #2 I believe if you are using the stock Samsung browser the video player is built in to browser, only fix would be to remove & or upgrade/downgrade browser to see if another version will give you this functionality back, try apkmirror for newer/older version.
If you had this functionality before with the exact/same version browser you could force stop and reset cache & data to return app to like first use and default settings. Otherwise the only thing I can suggest is to either use another browser such as chrome, or use separate video app & download the video first then watch in new separate video player app. This would probably be a hastle though.
Hope something I suggested my help or trigger an idea for you. More info would help like when you noticed it started (after upgrade) or when you change locations, or are you on WiFi or data or does it happen on both, the (constantly buffering/loading issue)? Also is it constantly this way all of the time on all websites & anything else that you may know that may have changed around that time. My browser supports everything that yours is missing, depending on the website tho. I'm on Snapdragon Galaxy Note 9 SM-N960W Canadian Variant Running First Pie v9.0 OTA Update.
One last thing, try turning on airplane mode, wait ten seconds, then turn it off & retry. This will cause phone to reconnect with WiFi & closest/fastest cell tower. You could also reset all connection settings. To do so just do this....
Tap on settings>tap on general management>tap on reset>finally tap on reset network settings. Good luck fixing friend.

Thanks for the reply.
All of this started happening with the Pie update.
This Note 9 worked just fine with the Oreo OS it came with out of the box.
It happens on 4gLTE and both Wifi with strong signal. Its litterally like the pause button is being pressed. I have to hit play to get it to play again. So I dont think its buffering.
So my phone is stock. Its leased so I dont have it rooted.
Can you walk me through getting the Oreo version on the Samsung Internet Browser???? Or how to reset the app to how it was out the box????
This sounds like the best solution. Thanks so much. This may be the most helpful. Having the older browser should fix a lot of these issues.

If you want to reset the app to all stock/factory settings you click on...
Go into Settings> tap on apps>scroll down and tap on Samsung internet>tap on storage>then you hit both "clear cache" and also "clear data" and once you have done this your browser when launched will be set back to all the stock/new settings as if it hasn't been used before. If this doesn't work you can get a newer or older version of "Samsung internet" and try that. Find it on the apkmirror website at...

Sorry for not responding quicker, but life has been busy lately. Now that I think about it the Samsung internet browser is part of the operating system and cannot be uninstalled. I would suggest clearing cache and then clearing data and upgrade with the apk at the link I provided you at the end of this post. I have a link I will provide at the end which is the latest version of the browser, if you have enabled allow downloads from alternate sources or whatever it asks, I don't see why it wouldn't install for you if the version you downloaded is newer than the one that is currently on your phone. The only other thing that I could think of would be sometimes on my phone I run into the exact same issue and even though I have enabled downloads through alternate sources sometimes I have to go into my file browser and install from there which almost always fixes the failed install issue. Anyway here is a link to the latest Samsung internet browser and if you read description it is meant for anything from lollipop up to Pie. It is the newest version I could find and I believe it was released on the 21st of this month. I got it from APK mirror which usually has the most up-to-date versions but if you are trying to install a version that is older then the one that is on your phone already the installation will fail every time. Hope you can get it working and message me if you have any progress or any questions.
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...ernet-browser-9-0-01-80-android-apk-download/
This is v9.0.01.80, and should be one of the, if not the, most recent.
Cheers
