Going through the forums it seems that a few users have had issues going back to stock after flashing jpk. Hence my question, what are the risks and what is the correct way to downgrade. Specifically, i am worried about loosing imei. I have backed up the efs folder but how would i go about restoring the imei, should it get lost in the process. Simply copy it back and overwrite? This is for the European galaxy s i9000m

i have flashed ICS RC1 there is no service not even showing baseband and IMEI...plss help me
Restore efs worked for me. If you dont have efs backup you fail.
Then go to stock rom with rooted kernel and use nitrality for backup efs. Then on rc1 restore efs and signal should work and imei should be back.

Once back on functionnal rooted stock ROM, disable SIM lock before flashing ICS. For me it resolve the issue.
I used the latest ee rom from sammimobile to make a rom with android kitchen. Im a complete beginner to this and thought I had rooted, zip aligned and deodexed it. Signed it and it made a zip.
I flashed this zip and it got stuck at the boot logo. So i restored from cwm nandroid (which was of the same rom originally installed via mobile odin and rooted.) When it booted up I had no mobile signal.
I checked the imei and it had gone. I had backed up the nv data before hand but was unable to restore it due to connection issues.
I reflashed the same firmware(ee) via mobile odin and I had imei and signal again.
What is happening here? Can you back up a stock rom with cwm? Can I still flash other custom roms without fear of losing my imei. I like to try most new roms but im a bit worried about screwing up my phone.
Also does anyone know why my rom never worked. Like I say it was my first attempt
Thanks

Who knows what you have done wrong building a rom .
Can you back up a stock rom with cwm >>>>>YES but it will have rooted recovery .
Can I still flash other custom roms without fear of losing my imei>>> If you have EFS / NV backup.
jje
Why do you think I lost my imei? From the rom I made and if so why didn't the nandroid I made of stock rom with cwm restore my imei? It only came back from a fresh install of the same firmware?? Proper confused.

a nandroid backup doesn't touch the imei.
restoring the NV data is the only possible solution
I never restored nmy nv data tho and I got my imei back just by flashing stock rom again
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
right, I missed that part. don't know what caused it
Flashing back a stock rom is a known method of possible restore of failed EFS/NV .
But the word is possible rather than probable and not to be relied on .
jje
But now its back is it as it was before. As in free to flash roms as I please as long as they are legit I.E ripper rom and cm 10 roms etc?
Thanks

yes
Probably you don't put modem.bin in ROM package or put n a wrong place and updater-script cannot find it.

This might be a stupid question but if I backup in TWRP my current ROM that's based on the .423 firmware,
then flash the new .244 firmware, can I restore the .423 backup in the future without having to start from scratch?
Of course I'm willing to try it but just wondered if anyone else has tried this? Thanks
You can Restore only data but it's not recommended.

Hey guys! Need some help here.
I know there are other threads on this forum about this but I've tried everything suggested to recover my IMEI but nothing works.
The problem is that I updated my Galaxy S3 to a custom rom with android 4.3 jelly bean, everything was okay, after that I decided to downgrade to the stock android 4.1.2 and my IMEI was not recognized any more, I must emphasize that before update from 4.1.2 to android 4.3, I did a backup of the EFS folder.
I restored the EFS folder with the 9 Steps to recover your imei guide on my new installed android 4.1.2 and I still got a wrong IMEI 0049... and Serial 00000... I have followed the guide lots of times and it stills the same.
I had read that it could be a modem MG6 problem in this post ... but now I'm with with stock 4.1.2 so that's discarded.
I also notice that it seems that the android os rewrites the nv_data.bin that I have previously copied into the EFS folder, is this possible?
Because in theory it should work:
I have a backup of the EFS folder got when I was 4.1.2.
I went back to Stock JB 4.1.2 rom.
I replaced the EFS folder with the "9 Steps to recover your imei", and it continues with the 0049 ...
Technical service want to charge $ 180 to restore it but it does not seem right for me when I have the backup and I could solve it.
Guys please some help!
Dude do you have a Nandroid backup from a previous rom? If yes restore it and you should recover your imei back, then retry to flash the new rom again. It worked for me!

Why would Nandroid restore IMEI if it has never backed up the EFS ???

It depends which recovery you use!

I am aware that Philz lets you create a EFS backup on its own .
So pray tell the recovery that automatically backs up EFS in a Nandroid as it should be stickied in the faqs

Hey thanks for the response but that's another rare point, I have noticed that in other posts, and also you say, that there is a /data/radio folder but I don't have the radio folder, the only radio folder I found is /data/misc/radio but inside this one there isn't any NV file.

Successful Downgrade to stock 4.1.2 from 4.3
I had similar issue upgraded to UK Stock 4.3 from Samfirmware ad had a terrible experience. I came across this 4.1.2 stock rom for Germany that worked with no issues as this one has MG4 modem that reads EFS2 partition newly implemented by Samsung,
Product Code: MBC
PDA: I9300XXEMG4
CSC: I9300MBCEMH1
MODEM: I9300XXEMG4
simply flash it through ODIN
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/250954845/08fe425/I9300XXEMG4_I9300MBCEMH1_MBC.zip.html
If your S3 doesn't reboot on its own, enter Recovery Mode by pressing Volume Up + Power + Home button simultaneously and then performing a Data Wipe/Factory Reset and wipe any cache partition. Then select Reboot System Now and you should be good to go.
Hope your problem will also solved as mine. Click Thanks if it works
I managed to get mine back by going back to 4.3, thought i had bricked my phone. I then went to a newer 4.1.2 as above
How to know that backing up ime by efs error? I backed up my ime. I am afraid of it's error. Because i never try jb4.3. So i never check my backup my ime too. I attend try cm11. So can i downgrade from 4.4 to stock 4.1.2 without lost ime?

It's seems like that the ROM you posted is for i9300 and not for i9305 ..
And I also like to know if I'll get any problems after downgrading from CM 11 ?

Just check the modem version used by the ROM you have used. if it is equal or greater than MG4, then my solution is hoped to work. I believe that older modem version do not modify the EFS structure therefore no worries for old ones.

Made an account on here just to confirm that this method works. I downloaded the file which contained a single .tar, flashed via Odin but came to a boot loop. So cache partition wipe and factory reset brought me back to 4.1.2 and the IMEI is all good so I can connect to my mobile network fine. Thanks for that buddy, you're awesome
