If you're on KitKat 4.4 and go to your Google search app and type in "OK GOOGLE EVERYWHERE" without quotations then click search. Then back up one page. Go to search settings then voice you will now see the option to "manage voice" turn it on the click "agree". Then back in settings/voice click " hot word detection" and then keep checking every option and you will have to teach your voice by saying "OK GOOGLE" 3 times. Once completed you can say "OK GOOGLE" any where and search pops up. In any app it doesn't matter where. And you don't have to be on the Google Now Launcher. Check it out. Its pretty cool.
I noticed after enabling that I cannot use the camera to record. It says "cannot start recording while other application is using audio".
Fresh 4.4.2 from the back to stock guide no root just a fresh phone.

Oh wow. So that's why I'm getting that error too. It never dawned on me that's what it was. Cool. Well not really that sucks. I've got the google now launcher on there too. I'm gonna try it. See if same results
The video recorder still doesn't work with the Google Now Launcher. I downloaded from Google market the "Google Camera" and it works. Video, still pick , and sound during playback. With the Google Now launcher. I haven't tried it on stock launcher.
Sweet I'm going to check that out.

As you guys may know, Google has integrated all their communication systems into the new Google Hangouts and it is started to rolling out.
Just wanted to let all root users know that you don't need to wait to get it as for some your Google Talk isn't being updated to Hangouts currently. Like if you have Talk currently and you go to the playstore and search hangouts it will say you already have it installed and you are updated to Hangouts even though you only have talk.
If you use something like Titanium Backup to uninstall Talk from your device, you can then go on to the playstore and be able to download and install the new Hangouts app.
I don't know if this has already been mentioned as I haven't seen a thread but just wanted to let people on to this little tip if you want to get it right away!
EDIT: I'm thinking now I might have probably posted this in the Themes and Apps forum, but I wasn't exactly sure if this should have been posted there as this is just a general tip. If any Mod wants to move this please do!

Anyone get the 'couldn't sign in because couldn't reach google, try again' or whatever? I get it every time :-\

You don't need to uninstall Google talk... You can use the Web Google play to install hangouts and it will automatically replaces the old talk or obtain the apk file from the web and install it over the Google talk.

I agree. I really miss the who is online and who is offline thing. You can VAGUELY tell by the contacts picture being grayed out, but that sucks compared to a red dot. Hit the menu button in the hangout app and hit send feedback. Request for this feature to be put back in.
Had problem today

1.Use some app to take backup of Google Play Services (ES File Explorer can do it for you) and save the apk locally. This is recommended because after the next step you may not be able to connect and re-download the update over Mobile Data. It would work on WiFi however.
2.Go to Manage Apps > Google Play Services
3.Do "Uninstall" / "Uninstall Updates" for Google Play Services
4.Google Hangout will automatically ask you to Install or Update Google Play Services.
5. If you "Uninstalled Updates", then the app would update over Mobile Data when you click on update in Google Play. After this go to Step #8
6.If you "Uninstalled" the app completely, you wouldn't find it in Google Play. So install it from the backup created in Step #1.
7.Now go to Google Play and install any updates for Google Play Services.
8.Now open Google Hangout. It may still show you a connection issue for a couple for times.
9.Don't lose your heart. It should work after you try for a maximum of 1-2 times.

I haven't been a huge fan of hangouts either yet. I use textra. I have heard that there might be some nice things in the works for it though. I'm keeping tabs on it.

I thought i read somewhere about the voice to text feature not working right on JB roms. Can I get some confirmation on this? When I use it from the keyboard shortcut, i get a quick flash of "google search has stopped."
Thanks.
It works for me. I actually typed this using it

When you compose a message...is there a way to send the message without having to wait for Svoice asking me to confirm with a yes ??

i did that... not sure what i did, but the new voice just started working. thanks!
This wont work for me!
I learned how you can download and install high-quality voices in the "Language and Input > Text to Speech" settings of the phone.
I downloaded and installed the High Quality US voice, applied. Nothing. Still robotic voice in S-Voice and Google Maps etc.
I downloaded and installed the High Quality UK voice. applied. Nothing. Still robotic voice in S-Voice and Google Maps etc.
Its weird because in the "Listen to Example" in the Text-To-Speech options it works great, I can hear the new voice.
Elsewhere its no-go. Robotic voice still exists everywhere.
Try clearing tts cache, closing tts settings in task manager, or rebooting.

Bear with me I wanted to also do this upgrade but I could not figure out what Samsung Store you were speaking of to do the search for the female high quality voices. I went to Samsung.com and there was nothing as well as went to the Samsung App store on the Gear Manager and did a search and there was nothing. Can you please be more exacting as to where i can find the female high quality voices download.
Thanks
if you search for " tts voices" you should find it in the Samsung app store
just tried it and was able to change the voice

Thanks Xand:
I went to the Samsung App Store on the computer and found the TTS Voices application. But it asked to download to device which did me know good on the computer. Are you guys using internet on the watch itself and then hitting download to device. If not how are you getting the download and then placing it on the watch. Like I said I actually found the app on the computer I just cannot figure out how to download it and then get it on the watch itself.

I am missing something because I went to the Galaxy Gear Manager on my phone and then went to the Samsung App Store as you suggested. I then did a search for " tts voices" as instructed and nothing came up. I will go to Samsung.com and do the same search. Perhaps that is where I should be

On your phone go to settings> language and input> text-to-speech-options. Hit the radio button for Samsung text to speech engine. Then hit the gear icon next to it. Once that opens hit the down arrow to download the voice you want. If the Samsung app store doesn't open you may have to download that. ( http://content.samsung.com/mobile/us/contents/aboutn/appsMobileIntro.do) I did cause I didn't like s-suggest
You don't have to put anything on the watch itself. Once installed on the phone the watch "uses" that.

Yup, thats all i installed
Ok I usually am good at fixing things like this or searching it out but this has been a fail.
I'm using nova launcher on my s5. I'm trying to set the home button long press to the standard "voice search"
Every method I have tried results in failure and I get the same result: google search will pop up... but it's not voice ready. It's just sitting there with the "say "ok google" search screen.
I'm trying to accomplish the result of selecting voice search from app tray.
Basically I want a hands free option almost for the long press without saying ok google
Seems simple enough..... but not
