It is a piece of cake trust me. Before I rooted my AHD I had never used Ubuntu or any form of Linux. I download Unbuntu and made the liveCD, and literally copied and pasted every command from the thread into the terminal in Ubuntu, then just followed the instructions on how to connect the phone. Worked first time, no issues. Just grab a cup of coffee, take your time, copy and paste and you will have root in no time,

I rooted my AHD tonight and it was my first experience ever using Ubuntu. It took me a while to figure it out, but once I got started it was a cake walk. Like someone else said, the hardest part is probably making the LiveCd/usb. I'm not sure why, but I couldn't ever get Ubuntu to work properly in VirtualBox so I ended up just booting my LiveUSB and opening the instructions on my tablet and doing it. It's super easy. Just do exactly what it says.
Oh, and it took me a little while to figure out just how to open a terminal in Ubuntu (ctrl+alt+T). If you're as much of a noob with this as I am knowing how to open a terminal will save you some time right from the get-go.
Good luck!
Google is your friend

[email protected]:~$ sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf
this is what i get when i install samba
also when i try to restart it says
[email protected]:~$ sudo restart smbd
restart: Unknown job: smbd
also prolly a stupid question but when i try to do the file manager it says cannot connect to remote host,
ive tried resetting my router and restarting both my phone and computer and nothing works...help
:
So yeah...
I was wondering, if any "recent" version of Ubuntu would work for the root...
Main reason for asking this was because I had a Live USB With 10.04
That and the PC i'm stuck with ATM just can't seem to handle 12.04...
[EDIT]
Never mind, I'm getting Lubuntu...
[EDIT]
I keep getting this error when trying to install samba in my lubuntu (persistent) usb...
Personally, I find these errors to be very annoying, as all I want to do is root my phone...
So, at the moment, I can't install Samba, can't "sudo gedit..."
[email protected]:~$ sudo apt-get install samba

thanks for all your help, you guys roick finally rooted on stock jelly bean btw used ubuntu 12.10 on usb worked great first time no problems
Lubuntu Variant
I noticed for Lubuntu, its a slight variant as opposed to the basic Ubuntu instructions...
Instead of gedit, you can substitute leafpad instead...
"sudo leafpad /etc/samba/smb.conf"
Oh and I think I solved my earlier problem after installing the "sessioninstaller" from the Synaptic Package Manager... (Use the search function.)
My only issue ATM is when I'm in the terminal and I try and use "sudo restart smbd" and it doesn't seem to work.
It merely tells me smbd isn't a process...

Adb commands are completely free. There's too many to list here I recommend you perform a search for "adb commands"
Apologies sorry

Hi and sorry for posting 3 times and didnt realise, ive tried Adb commands but i must be doing something wrong!! Can you help me please ? And again sorry and thankyou.
i had difficulties transferring null_.zip also but figured it out
i just got my $99 galaxy gear and played with it for a bit. first of all, i wasn't sure how to initially program it without a samsung phone, but eventually i just used my son's g4 to initially set it up. then i did the quick cydia impactor root method. i installed gear manager and all its associated files on my lg optimus g pro in order to pair the gear with a NON-galaxy device. i used odin to install twrp recovery via these instructions. and i tried to install null rom according to http://nullproject.net/guide/ and download site. BUT I HAD PROBLEMS attempting to transfer the null rom zip file to the watch. it took me a long time to figure out how to move the files to the watch and my laptop wouldn't connect (windows 8) to ADB PUSH the rom over. after a while, i figured that i could boot into twrp recovery, MOUNT SYSTEM, and THEN MY COMPUTER could transfer the null rom to sdcard via: adb push null_23.zip /sdcard
after that, it was gravy and i had success installing null 23 rom onto my galaxy gear! i hope this helps...

Hello everyone. If someone could help me that would be great. I have a Galaxy S4 Active (i537) and it was bricked doing an upgrade to 5.0. If anyone can supply me with a 5.0 debrick image, it would really be appreciated. What I have to offer you is a beer or money through PayPal. I do have a 4.4.2 128 MB image but it is not working. I also have a lot of debrick images if someone can help me. It is a Quad-core 1.9 GHz Krait 300 CPU, Adreno 320 GPU; Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset so it shouldn’t need a test point to force into download mode. I’m assuming the aboot is different on the lollipop rom and that is why I can’t get it to download mode. Can someone please take time out to help me?
To get the image you have to have a rooted Galaxy S4 Active on 5.0 lollipop, and have to install busybox, and a simple syntax program like terminal emulator which you would have to install. You also would have to install root explorer. These are all android apps with the extension .apk. Once those 3 programs are installed you would have to press terminal emulator and enter this code:
Su (press enter) to get super use access, then on the next command type just like this
busybox dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/debrick.img bs=1M count=128
The image which will be put on the “sdcard” of the phone. Not the external sdcard but the internal sd card.
Then use root explorer to navigate to the root of the sdcard and copy it to let’s say your download folder.
Then plug in the phone and copy it onto your computer to copy on your desktop. Once you have the image then if you can send it to [email protected] it would be appreciated and I WILL give you money, a free jtag, or we could discuss whatever you want!
Please someone do not ignore this and help me. You would be actually helping a lot of people that need this image. Thank you.
I need a "how to guide" for idiots please! How to install ROM on a X98Air III (M5C5)
First of all a little history!
I started in X98 Air III M5C5 with clean stock ROM? as I really want a clean, stock ROM with no extras or Chinese bloatware!
The 1st thing I did was go to "Intel Android Devices Root / Temp Recovery Session" to root my tablet.
I wiped the tablet and reset to Factory, wiped dalvik cache
I followed the instructions there
Selected option 5 from the launcher "CMW" then used trigger T4.
This booted the unit into custom recovery and I managed to select the su.zip file
and seem to have a rooted tablet now! Well SU is installed and seems to be working! Yay - step 1 Complete
I then downloaded X98+Air+III(M5C5)+-+guvno.zip and and also X98 Air III V1.00_20151204 Clean Stock CWM Backup (just in case), put on the root of the Tablet (Couldnt put on SD card because it cant find it in recovery)
I also downloaded the system.img.gz file ( but have no idea what to do with that, so just put it in the root of the tablet !!!
SO I am now stuck -
I have make sure you have downloaded and installed the adb / fastboot drivers . . .
I have enabled developer options / adb debugging under settings on my device . . .
The tool is reporting :
DEVICE STATUS: ADB-ONLINE
DEVICE INFORMATION: Baytrail000005A4 device
I then selected option 5 from the launcher "CMW" then used trigger T4.
This booted the unit into Vampirefo Venue 8 v6:
I tried to restore and got the error message: Couldnt open directory , no files found
I tried to instal the guvno zip file with the following error message: installation aborted with the dead android with a red triangle
I am unable to do anything else from here and this is where I need your help please!!!
What am I meant to do now!!!
thanks for reading this far

Hello everybody,
I'm really desperate, I hope you can help me as soon as possible,
I installed FolderMount that patched "/system/bin/sdcard" and saved the original file to "/system/bin/sdcard.backup". After rebooting, my Samsung J2 Prime is stuck to the Samsung logo
How can I access a command line to delete "/system/bin/sdcard" and rename "/system/bin/sdcard.backup" back to "/system/bin/sdcard", in the hope that my smartphone works again ?
Please give me as much information as you can because I'm a novice (but I was able to root my smartphone, I know how to access recovery mode, and I know the basic unix shell commands).
THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP, I really count on you.
Cedric.
