[Q] 4gb pit file to increase /data partition size - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

For SGS2 I9100 there are bigger pit files to increase /data partition size.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...es/mod-partition-internal-memory-app-t2538947
Are there such pit files, to create 4gb /data partition size?

Nope , the /data is shared with internal memory , it means that there is no limitation

[Q] Can't convert /system to ext4?

As of last night I'm running CF Root 3 JVK on Gingerbread 2.3.3.
When I tried using the ext4 App to convert the file systems to ext4, it was successful for:
/dbdata
/data and
/cache
However for /system, it says:
Code:
Using: internal sdcard
Converting /system
- Backing up files ...
- Creating ext4 filesystem ...
- Restoring files ...
- Restore failed ! Not enough space ?
- Performing rollback ...
- Creating rfs filesystem ...
- Restoring files...
- Rollback success!
I cleared up some space on my phone and now I have 1.87GB available space on the sd card, and 13.26GB Available space on the USB storage.
and 1.75GB Available Space on System storage.
However I still can't convert /system to ext4.
Any ideas why this might be the case?
You need to free some space on /system to be able to successfully convert it to ext4. Apparently, ext4 needs some extra space for the conversion.
This is explained in the CF-Root main post, or in the CF-3.0 release information.
Okay thanks for that!
All the answers were in the original thread. I was just searching for the wrong terms.
I eventually downloaded Super Manager, activated its root mode and deleted the Aldiko eBook app from /system/app
That freed up enough space to convert /system to the ext4 filesystem!

How to increase /data partition?

There is 1.35GB free space in /system partition but only 40MB free space in /data partition on my phone.
Is there a way to repartition the internal storage so as to make use of the large free space in /system partition?
Using CM10 20120820 nightly build

I've got the answer. The /data and /system partition is swapped in CM10 20120820 nightly build.
May be I should use CM10 20120814 version to get the bigger /data partition back.
That would slow down your apps and you wouldn't be able to make use of new features and fixes. Move some of your apps to sdcard and remove unused ones and there shouldn't be a problem.
You could, by that defeats the purpose of what pawitp just did. Move apps to sd.

If you need the extra space create an ext4 partition of around 1gb on your external sdcard and install Link2sd from the play store. That's a universal solution for all phones with limited storage.
Someone has also created a script that does practically the same thing, except it uses the internal movinand where /system is stored instead. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30568246
Use Datafix app from market, it makes /data/data directory, where all app cache can be stored.

That doesn't work with JB anymore because of the partition change. Hopefully they update it to make it work.

CM10 - SD Partition with Link2SD: "mount: invalid argument"

Hi,
here the specs of my phone:
- Samsung S5570
- Android ver 4.1.2
- CyanoGen 10-20121209-UNOFFICIAL-tass
Using ClockworkMod i formatted my 4GB SD (Kingston) with 1024MB partition and 0 cache.
I installed Link2SD to complete the "link" to SD but when i choose Fat32/16 for filesystem for the second partition i get this error:
Code:
mount: Invalid argument
Because i'm using a Windows system i can't use Ext#
Thanks for your help.

Reduce EXT Size.
EXT Size should be 512 MB (cause Read Write access on our Mini is very limited)
Swap is OK.

Flash any s2e script !!
And then mount ..
How can I do this through a mac? I have a similar issue and I've played around with both exFat and ext4, but neither work (one format isn't recognized by the phone, the other is not mounting telling me to reformat). I was using this guide.
I'm using a 5570i with gingerbread and windows 7 for the adb.

Partition CWM

I just have a question. Is it safe to partition my sd card in clockwork mod recovery coz I have clockwork mod 5.0.2.6 and in the advanced there is an option "Partition SD Card" and if u select it there at several amounts like 246m, 400m, 1026m, 2046m. So would it work if I do it in my clockword mod recovery.
Yes it works. Creates ext3. Backup sd contents first then copy back after.

Hi Pj_Singh
Is there any particular reason you want to create ext4 partition only? I mean Galaxy Ace doesn't have very great processor and ext4 is slower than ext2. Take a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800353

Despite the fact that ext4 is slower, it is required for most of the newest rom's/kernels to work. And the ext4 is "slightly" slower, means you wont see the difference, at least not when using a phone.

Ext2 partition as inter storage how .?

Hello friends,
i tried two roms for galaxy Ace, one is The Ultimatum V4 which is now i am running , and second one is Cynogenmod 10.1.6 which is awesome but very slow. The thing i noticed is , i have a partition in my sd card with ext2 format so when i use The Ultimatum V4 the ext2 is automatically detecting as internal storage like in ace we have only 200mb around as internal but it is showing the ext2 space included with that, So how can i do the same with Cynogenmod 10.1.6 so that ext2 partition can be used as internal storage, so that i can use freely the rom without any strucks.
Please say me how to use EXT2 partition of sdcard as internal memory automatically in Cynogenmod 10.1.6 .
Thanks.

Its simple actually. Just flash CronMod script (try INT2EXT+ as it is the most stable of all) from CWM. Make sure to have an ext partition of maximum size 1GB (anymore and the system will lag). Here is the link,
CronMod-INT2EXT
Hope I Helped
Thanks buddy, i m trying on i just kep 600mb as ext2, so it will solve my problem of lagging CM 10.1.6, and ext2 is best or any other format should i do..

Usually when you create a ext partition from CWM, its in ext3 format. But CronMod works well on ext2/3/4. Its upto you

Can you check if there is a file named 40int2ext in your /system/etc/init.d? Also was your ext partition in ext2 type?
There are only 00banner and 90userinit file in /system/etc/init.d location , the file 40int2ext is not ther. When i try to copy that file readonly message displaying.

It means that flashing was not successful. There are 2 ways to do it,
1. Go to CWM> Mounts & Storage> Mount /system and then flash CronMod script. Finally format /sd-ext from Mounts & Storage and reboot. If you still can't find 40int2ext in /system/etc/init.d, then use the next method.
2. Using a root file manager change the permission of /system from R to R/W. Now simple copy the 40int2ext file to /system/etc/init.d/ and change the permission to rwx-rx-x. Done! Now reboot and it should work.
Hope it works

For some strange reason, I can't do this by just flashing my zip file, I had to manually copy and paste file into my system folder. Well this is the way if flashing didn't work out for you either

Yes, formatting /sd-ext is the last step. You should mount /system too as 40int2ext is placed inside /system/etc/init.d/.
