I am only able to connect to LTE in the city now. Usually, I can connect to 3G in my own house, but I am having issues:
HISTORY:
I just recently got S-OFF, so I could use the Freedom.apk to get free in-app purchases.
I cannot make calls or text people through the messages app, nor can I receive calls or texts by anyone. I have resorted to using Facebook Messenger and Snapchat to contact my friends, but my family members don't all use those services.

OpenDSP_v32.120.274.0909
OS-3.04.651.2
eMMC-boot 2048MB
OTHER INFO:
Since I have been having this problem, I have tried flashing CWM (6.0.4.8) and TWRP (2.7.1.0a) and wiping and installing different roms to try to fix the situation. I have no prior problems with data connectivity. I have now resorted to installing a stock RUU (EXE not ZIP). For both of the RUU files that I try to install, it gets stuck at Sending on the screen, and my phone is stuck at the black HTC logo. I can use fastboot commands, and my phone says "FASTBOOT USB" when I plug it in, but I cannot use ADB commands. CMD says that there are no devices attached. I have tried uninstalling the drivers, re-installing them, updating them...but nothing has worked. I do have a USB-OTG cable with a 16GB USB stick available.
So far, the only deductions I can make, are that the process of getting S-OFF was what caused this issue.
I can't even activate Google Voice, because the calls aren't reaching my phone.
The same goes for the Landmark Credit Union app...the security calls for activation aren't reaching my phone.
My dad said that anytime he tries to call me, the calls are sent straight to voicemail.
I have an unlimited data plan, and always have the Roaming Guards turned off, and the Network Mode set to Automatic, with all of the additional Roaming boxes checked. I have USB Debugging checked and Fastboot in Power Settings turned off.

UPDATE:
I am going to download the latest TWRP version from the official website, and then update the radio to see if this fixes things.
UPDATE
I was running a nightly of Cyanogenmod. This morning, I downloaded the official TWRP (v7.2.1.1) from the official website. I then wiped my device and flashed the ViperOne rom. I went through the initial phone setup until I could actually use my phone. I then proceeded to go back into TWRP and flash the (supposedly) newest radio through my OTG cable and USB.
This is the radio that I downloaded and flashed (V1.01.20.0515):
THREAD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406330
LINK: http://d-h.st/2dh
After I flashed the radio, I wiped the Dalvik Cache and rebooted. I still have the same issues.
My Mobile network settings are as follows:
4g Settings are blank (no network provider or IP address are shown)
Data roaming sound is unchecked
Network mode is set to Automatic
All Roaming Guard boxes are unchecked
The Roaming box is grayed out and I cannot click on it (beneath Roaming, it says Change the CDMA roaming mode, but it's grayed out too)
Domestic Voice is checked
Domestic Data is checked
International Voice is checked
International Data is checked
Allow GSM data is checked
The Access point names and Available GSM networks options are both grayed out, and I cannot click on them.

I have kind of the same issue. I can only use 4g LTE at the city. and sometimes whenever it feels like it at home. I can't use 3g. its the same thing at home. it's horrible not be able to call or text. I have cm11 4.4.4 I read this article how to fix this it gives this code do get into "phone settings" and turn off "radio" first try it worked. but 3 hours later my phone frozed and I had to turn it off. I turned back on and the issue got worst. if you see this it's because I'm lucky and I'm using 3g. is there a ROM or kernel or something I could do or change. I'm new. please help.

Have you ever gotten 3G on your phone? Even when you were on a trip or something? Then we can assume that it's the phone's problem and not the towers, given that you're using Sprint.
If you're using a carrier other than Sprint, the frequencies might not match. If so, tell me what your carrier is and I can look it up.
I don't use sprint. my carrier is USC cellular. and thanks I appreciate your help a lot.

Just looked it up, US Cellular is CDMA, so it should theoretically work. Did you buy it from US Cellular, or did you buy it from Sprint and edit the EPST (or something, idk, i'm unfamiliar with CDMA)? For 4G (doesn't matter if it's CDMA/GSM), it needs a SIM card to access it. So is the 4G SIM card in the phone?
let's tell you a Lil bit of the phone.
I bought it from ebay. it is a USC cellular phone. it says it on the back. it does use 4g lte. I few months ago I decided to root it. it was great even though I didn't knew how to do it. well, where I live it isn't a very good signal. so it automatically use CDMA which is 3g, right? I always had 3 signal bars at home and when I was out it always went up I had no trouble. my phone is prepaid. I ran out of money so I didn't paid the month but I had WiFi at home. like a month ago I decided to go further. I did like a 3 days search on how to install a new ROM and what was the best. everyone was talking about cm11, I flash it and everything (so hard for me that didn't knew how to do it that's why it took 3 days) finally I had all done. I had no bugs at all, and I was still using it with WiFi. when I finally paid my month I was all happy till I got home. there was no signal. not even a bar from CDMA (3g) it had a flashing repetitive (searching signal) on the signal icon. I went into settings it said: " select network type preferred" or something like that. and I chosed (lte recommended). it stopped the "flashing" thing on the icon. but still the problem. I was wondering how it supposed to get 4g if it only get half of 3g. I couldn't use my phone at home. I searched again on how to fix this, I found a forum from another page which is not XDA. it said to type on the dialer *#*#4636#*#* and it automatically goes to a hidden menu. I went into "phone settings, it shows all about it. I was looking for a "radio" thing. I had to turn it off and reboot. it worked at first. but I had to turn off the phone again and the signal issue got worst. I couldn't open my games because I had no "network". now I can only use it when I go out because the signal is stronger at the city. and it's using LTE (4g). here at home I just screwed my anttenna because I had no signal and has a two inches long "paper clip" as antenna to get one bar of LTE.

Yep, another noob with a busted phone. Verizon Droid 3, about 5 months old.
I've just noticed that I have no 3G. Not a 3G problem, I've confirmed with another phone that I'm in a covered area. Normally I'm under one Wi-Fi net or another, so I rarely use it. Noticed it yesterday when I needed it.
Allowed the 2.3.4 upgrade back in May. No problems, just had to reroot the phone. Pretty sure this started after the upgrade, but not 100% sure.
I've tried Googling, saw the *228, tried it, nothing. Found threads about task killers causing issues, uninstalled Advanced Task Killer, nothing. Pulled the battery and rebooted, nothing. Saw some thread on APN settings, but those are not available to me with Netwrok Mode set to Global. I can set it to CDMA, still has APN setting greyed out.
Not finding anything else much to go on, could use some help.
One thing you could try is hitting *#*#4636#*#* then Phone Information and changing the network to EVDO only. That would force it to connect to 3g. Then if that doesn't work try manually forcing a PRL using ##Program. You could always call Verizon.

Are you on any rom? Stock?
If your on stock, I would go to verizon and ask for a replacement or see if they can give you a replacement or fix it.
If your rooted/custom rom I would try re-downloading whatever rom your using and reflash it. And wipe caches.
I've actually had a few issues with the 3G on my own D3. These steps generally work for me.
Navigate to your APN settings. Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks
Press Menu (An option should pop up that says "Reset APN" or "Reset Values")
Press this and wait a few seconds.
Reboot, and you SHOULD be up and running.
If this doesn't work you can edit the greyed out APNs manually (NOT advised) with a trick I can show you. Hope I was able to help!
-End All Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt
I don't think you can even access the apn menu from cdma mode.
Sent from my xt862 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Unfortunately, none of them have worked. EndAllFUD, even switching over to GSM so I can get to the AFN settings, there is no reset that I could find.
I've went back and tried unfreezing all the oddball authenticators under the assumption that maybe one of then was IDing me to the 3G network. That hasn't worked either. Unless I come up with another idea, I guess I'm going to have to try Verizon and see if they can/will help.
Well, we have a resolution. After everything up to and including a factory reset, it seems that the 3G radio in my Droid has died. Verizon is sending me another; I'm springing for the overnight shipping.
I had forgotten how much effort had went into customizing this thing. The stock phone is just...painful.
I appreciate all the help that was offered.
Sorry to hear about the 3g radio in your D3, but glad to hear you resolved your issue! Also, I was going to amend my solution. I was basing my answer of memory due to the fact that I am currently running Hashcode's CM9. (It's amazing by the way) The proper instructions were as follows: (Amended instructions are in bold.)
Navigate to your APN settings. Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks
Set network mode to GSM
Change mode back to Global but quickly start tapping the "Access Point Names" menu until it lets you in.
-(You are now in the locked Global Settings Menu)
Press Menu (An option should pop up that says "Reset to default")
Press this and wait a few seconds.
Reboot, and you SHOULD be up and running.

Yeah I just had to throw in a trick I figured out one day when I was screwing around with my phone. My apologies for not remembering to put it in earlier.
Does anyone know how to tweak Droid 3 to make it able to call, message and 3G, but not 1x data?
It isn't possible to make calls or texts using CDMA service locked into EVDO only. If you use Google Voice and a SIP program it would work.

Hi - I'm a semi-noob with this phone and Android in general (long-time iPhone JB'er finally saw the light), so sorry for any ignorance/stupidity in what follows...
HTC One, on T-Mobile
Android 4.3 SW# 3.24.531.3
Baseband vsn: 4A.21.3263.03_10.38m.1157.04L
Rooted, Unlocked, S-OFF
I was traveling on St Martin (French Caribbean) where T-Mobile gives free data roaming, so I turned on roaming and everything was fine - cell service, cell data, wifi all clearly working properly. After several days, I noticed no cell service or 3G indicator, but my wife's T-Mobile iPhone had full bars and 3G service. I waited a while, and (I *believe*) data & cell service came back on once for a while, but then failed again and have not returned to health since then (it's been about a week). Wifi works fine. When I tried to find a signal I would get "Error Searching for Networks". I thought maybe it had to do with roaming, but when I returned home (USA) I still had no cell signal/data.
I've tried rebooting, turning Data roaming on and off, Airplane mode on and off, all choices of Network mode, power off for a long time while charging, a couple other more obscure suggestions that I can't remember. I have not tried reverting to Stock or flashing a radio.
In poking around in settings:
IMEI: [normal] (this is different from several other people reporting similar problems)
Network Mode: GSM / WCDMA / LTE Auto
Operator: Unknown
Signal Strength: 0
Mobile network type: Unknown
Service State: Radio Off
Roaming: Not roaming
I've seen several posts here and on Android Forums with similar problems, but never quite a match - always a different phone and/or they are now missing their IMEI, which is not true for me and seems significant.
I never dropped the phone in water or anything, but I was traveling and it's possible it got more humidity than normal (one thread suggested water damage as a likely culprit).
Is there anything for me to do before (A) flashing a radio, (B) returning it to stock, (C) taking it to T-Mobile and hoping they'll fix it (still under warranty)? I haven't flashed a radio before, but it sounds like it's straightforward - if you have any suggestions, let me know.
I have an OTA update available to 4.4.2 - is it likely that would help me? And if I do that how much damage control will I have to do to get back to rooted/unlocked/S-OFF status?
Someone with a different phone said they removed their battery for a couple of hours and all was fine, but I'm scared to try to remove my battery, especially if I might have to take it for warranty repair.
Thanks for any guidance you can provide, and let me know if I should post any more info...

OTA update won't affect bootloader (unlocked and S-OFF). You might loose root but you can re-root after the update. Don't forget you need stock recovery to update. If you are going to send your phone for repair, you'll have to S-ON, remove tampered flag and Lock (no re-lock) the bootloader or your warranty will be invalid. You can only s-on on hboot 1.44 or 1.54 so you'll have to downgrade first.

Oh my freaking gawd, thank you. It actually didn't work at first - the button just read "turn off radio" (as if it was currently on), and tapping it didn't seem to cause any change. Kind of on a whim, I changed "preferred network type" from "WCDMA preferred" to "LTE Only", went out to settings to see if anything had changed, turned off WiFi, came back to the phone info page, clicked "turn radio off" again, and then I noticed that numbers on the screen were moving, and I had 4G/LTE and full bars again. I've switched back to "WCDMA preferred" and everything seems fine, but I don't know whether that's the right choice out of a long list of options - it's just what was there to start with.
I feel silly that it was so simple, but I didn't know about that testing screen. Thanks a ton.

Hi all,
I installed the 5.1OTA and could not get Verizon Enhanced LTE (advanced calling, VoLTE, etc....) to work. I tried what everyone else suggested and nothing made it work (never showed the enhanced LTE setting in the cellular menu). Here are the steps I took in case anyone else is having the same problem.
1. Re-Install radio and bootloader from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934540313
2. Enter the hidden menu using *#*#4636#*#*
3. Go in to Phone information
4. Click the TURN ON VOLTE PROVISIONED FLAG button (wont change)
5. Click the TURN OFF RADIO button
6. Wait a few seconds (for radio to turn off) and then click the TURN ON RADIO button.
7. Observe that the TURN ON VOLTE PROVISIONED FLAG button has changed to TURN OFF....
8. Go in to Settings>>...More>>Cellular Networks and make sure that Enhanced 4G LTE Mode is enabled.
I did all this and I still did not have data while making a call. I had to go to VZW site and go into my account and tell it to activate a device on my current line. I entered the IMEI and it gave me a warning about softcard and then went right back to same screen, When I clicked next it gave me a warning that it was unsupoorted device. After this it all worked perfect although the phone is still not recognized on the VZW site.

I'll keep it short. I have rooted Sprint Note 5. Currently with TWRP recovery and MOAR rom. I called Sprint to "Unlock" the phone for me (wasn't financed, I purchased it outright on Swappa...previous owner apparently used it on Ting) and the unlock went through. Now, I'm not sure whether the unlock I did was a domestic unlock or just an unlock to use the phone overseas. My fault for not finding out.
Fast forward. I went over to MetroPCS yesterday with my Sprint Note 5. The sim card was accepted and I called MetroPCS so that they can register the IMEI of the phone in their database. I quickly tested data and sent a text but didn't bother making a phone call. Long story short for the life of me I cannot get a phone call to go through.
I've tried two different MetroPCS APN settings and messed with Network settings (LTE/CDMA and Automatic) The best I can do is get data working and text messaging but not phone calls. I went into MetroPCS today to see if one of the morons could see if they could do something with it. The guy went into Network Mode and changed it to the GSM/whatever option (don't have the phone in front of me ATM) and sure enough the phone was able to make a phone call and the data worked!
However, around 30 minutes later I try to use data to update an app in the PlayStore and I'm notified that I have no connection. I go back and forth between Network settings and I'm back to square one where I can only get data and messaging. The GSM Network Mode no longer shows a signal.
Soooooooo, if anyone can get me through this mess I will give $20 for your time and energy! I'm about to just flash stock Sprint firmware and sell this piece of crap on Ebay and get different phone for MetroPCS. This thread is my last attempt at finding a resolution!
@SantinoInc, have you checked with Sprint if they have locked the device?
What bands does Metro use for 4G/LTE and is it compatible with a Sprint-based device?
Try using 2G/3G mode instead of the 4G/LTE mode.
What rom are you using?
Hey All,
I just got an unlocked US version could silver note 9. I am on N960U1UEU1AEL1 firmware and T-Mobile network. I seem to have an issue where the phone is dropping connection. It shows the LTE icon in the task bar but I cant connect to the internet. I have to restart the phone in order for it to connect. It seem to be tied to a wifi or something along those lines. If I connect to a wifi then walk away from it, the phone has trouble picking a tower but it shows that I am connected to LTE. I tried adding new APN settings but it defaults to the T-Mobile APN. Do I really need to flash TMB firmware, I really liked the unlocked version without all the bloat. All help is appreciated.

Have you tried resetting the network settings? That's where I would start. Could be a bug with your software. If that doesn't work try rebooting the phone into recovery mode and wiping the cache partition the reboot. If that doesn't work back up your data then factory wipe the phone.

I haven't tried resetting the phone yet. This is my first phone that is not rooted and I started using Blokada from day one. I wonder if Blokada is causing this, hmmmm.
Ok, I did some more research and it sppears to be an issue with Blokada version 3.6.
