Hi folks.
I bought an Xperia Z a few months ago. The guy I bought i off told me that he had done a factory reset. However, it wouldn't seems so as I found some photos and other bits still on the device. (Nothing worth sharing if you are wondering :silly
Anyhow, last night, having avoided doing a software update for a long time I ended up running it. This was because Media Go was not transferring all my music. So I thought maybe the software update might fix that. It didn't.
Amongst some other minor things it has split the drop-down menu into two sections: Notifications & Quick Settings. This is really annoying and I preferred the older menu. So I figured: FULL RESET. Surely this would revert it to the former state.
Not a chance. It seems to load now with the latest version of all the software and apps. Is there a way of amending this, surely it should revert to factory settings ?
Do factory reset YOURSELF!
And about the update, nothing to worry about

Surely a factory reset should reset the phone so that i has the original firmware on it ????????

A factory reset sets your phone settings and deletes your data. It can't change the system. If you want to go back to 4.3 or lower you have to manually flash a ftf file via flashtool

Last time i did a factory reset before flashing v10h kdz in default recovery and my phone had bricked so hard i didn't repair it by myself (kdz updater, lg flashtool, lg update tool). I saw it happens also on another lg phones sometimes.
So, do a factory reset in default recovery only when u really have to do it.

@reas0n... what are you smoking? I want some too... looks good stuff!
Tell me how is that possible.
Off course that if we mess with the stock firmware or apps (some of them), we don't have other solution than
re-flash it but, in normal conditions a stock firmware should be unbrickable by Factory Reset... like that, the cure kill the patient...
Dexter said to me that partitions would be ruined, or somethin'. And nope i'm not smokin'
So how Would You explain boot freeze on first LG logo? Nothing helped in it

Like I said before... if the FW is stock, the flash was a clean one, and if no files are deleted, looks kind of impossible.
Of course the flash can be "unclean". Its enough to change country version, a little of bad luck, and we'll have a contaminated install
Dexter is right but, partitions don't get ruined without any app install or without something move the files or modify them... unless there is some hardware issue but, thats different, and it's never fault of Factory Reset.
Factory reset just reinstall the firmware from a "safe" location. If that location is damaged or corrupted is because something there happend.
If I do a factory reset now, Chrome, World Clock and some others won't be installed, cause I delete the install files. The same can happens with other files, and make the re-install impossible.
What you had was faulty install.
Weird, cause factory reset only deletes the userdata partition... it doesn't touch the system partition or boot, or bootloader...

The problem here was not what it delete but, what it read or where it written.
ARS performs the factory reset based in previously installed firmware. That firmware needed to be installed, and how it was installed or if something happend to those files, may result in a faulty install.
Unless, like I said before, there is a hardware problem that makes impossible read/write install files.

Actually, the recovery dictates where the phone should be formatted (the partition)... so that's even more weird 'cause we can't touch the recovery...
Probably a hardware issue...

Protected, of course... but before they existe they need to be placed there. Thats why a clean install is important when we flash a FW version.

100% sure its hard... my crystal ball runned out of batteries
What I use to do is, downgrade to the earliest version (V10A), factory reset to clean files from previous version, upgrade via B2Capp (I think it format somehow the internal storage before install the new firmware, I think that because I always loose root and all the apps that I have installed, with kdz upgrade the apps remain and most part of the time root also remains).
After that, root and factory reset again (to delete install files from the root process).

Hi,
is it possible to use Sus or any other SW to download the original branded Fw of the phone without actually flashing it? For example by disconnecting the phone while Sus downloads? Does Sus do anything to the phone before the DL is finished?

that's a high risk to disconnect the phone while updating...
ALTHOUGH I HAVE DONE IT, AND NOTHING BAD HAPPENED TO MY PHONE, it's not recommended...
one way, as you suggest, is to start the update process using Sony Update Service, then when it's done, you can create a FTF file from your pure stock firmware which you have downloaded by flashtools, you just have to head over bundle creation in flashtools
what's wrong with updating the phone just once to have all the files you need? is there anything wrong with it?!!

As far as I know, flashing with Sus causes a factory reset of the phone. I can make backups with adb, actually did that and restord them. It is still quite some work to restore everything. Some settings have to be restored manually and also some bloatware will reappear. Plus, flashing is always a risk. But as you pointed out, disconnecting may be an even bigger risk.
tnx

Nope, update using SUS won't cause factory reset, at the final step of confirmation, before starting the update process, you are given 2 choices by Sony:
1)update and keep data
2)update and factory reset (clean update)
so, you can easily choose the first one
but if you are not provided with those options, then yes, it will cause factory reset
anyway, wish you luck, let us know if anything is needed
First of all, I've tried searching and reading tons of forums/guides the past hours, but I can't get this to work. So please excuse me if I've missed something
I'm trying to downgrade my Xperia Z1 from (the horrible) KK update 4.4.2. to my stock 4.3 JB. I've tried flashing the following FTF's:
C6903_14.2.A.1.136_Generic Nordic NCB_1276-9897.ftf
C6903_14.2.A.0.290_Customized NCB 1276-9897 (Nordic Combined).ftf
C6903_14.1.G.1.534_1276-4314_R2A.ftf
All found here!
No one works. I keep getting bootloops (I can se the startup animation, then it restarts). I manged to get my phone working with using the orginal KK FTF (C6903_14.3.A.0.681_Generic NCB 1276-9897 (Nordic).ftf).
Could somebody please help me and figure out what the problem is? I've added my Software Info as an attachment.
Thanks for any replies!
Really weird, if you flashed them correctly from Flashtool v0.9.15 they should work, check the version of your Flashtool if is correct. Also try the one (FW .534) provided by NUT for C6903, here.

I used Flashtool Version 0.9.15.0. and yes, I believe so.
Flashmode->Choose FTF->Wipe Appslog and Cache, uncheck Data->Flash
That looks like 4.2. FW, and a custom ROM? I would like to have the original 4.3 .

Yes, but if that will work then you will have more chance to Update via Flashtool to .136 FW 4.3 and maybe get Root too (Optional).

Hm.. I'm not sure about a custom ROM, It's a road I'm not quite familiar with, if you understand .
There isn't any troubleshooting I could do that you can think of? Have i selected the right FTF for my phone? Is it actually possible to downgrade from 4.4.2. to 4.3?
EDIT:
If I'm going to delete my data, exactly WHAT am I losing? I want to know what I have to take backup of before trying that out.

Yes, it is possible, I did many times. Check everything you downloaded or did, nobody can know that better than you-self.

OK, then, wipe everything and make a fresh installation of 4.3, I think this will work. Backup anything what is important to you, Pictures, Vids, or Data games to not going to download them again. I don't know, wipe everything..

You will find all on XDA just by searching the right Words.
You have to use "Flashtool v0.9.16", download the FTF from "Mega Collection" for your Model (C6902/3/6). Download the FTF "Generic" or "Commercial", the customization have nothing to do with that, put that FTF in the Folder of Flashtool, Run Flashtool, Flash, select the right FTF, put your Phone in "Flashmode" and when Flashtool asking connect the phone via USB to PC, Wipe everything Data, Cashe, Appslog. Done.
Do not ask for step by step, all what you have to know I already wrote.
Clik Thanx.
I have rooted Verizon G2 running with custom recovery. The other way, I accidentally updated it through OTA and it kept going into recovery loop.
I fixed that issue with help from this forum and reverted back to stock (4.4.2) using KDZ method. However, the OTA notification keep coming back up.
My question here is if I hard reset my phone, would it go back to the original factory setting? I just want to reset the whole thing and go back to the original factory setting and then update it through OTA. What is the best way to do this?
Thanks for your help in advance!

No... a "hard reset" will wipe out data, cache, and dalvik, root is stored in /system which is not touched in FDR.
Hi there,
I asked this question before, but last time I got some confusing answers with regards to needing root.
The problem: My phone is slowing down and I want to wipe it completely (no system/app data left over) and restore it to factory defaults, preferably running 5.1.1.
What's the best/easiest way to do this? Will flashing the new firmware clear everything the way I want? I don't want to root, unlock the bootloader or lose the DRM keys, just a standard wipe.
On a firmware note, does anyone know where I can get Bell Canada 5.1.1 firmware?
Thanks a lot!
Foaric
Download FlashTool and there is XperiFirm to download the firmware you need
Just flash it, and you start from stock
I think just a standard factory reset should do this.

Great! So flashing will clear all the system/user data while leaving the DRM data intact? I'm looking to do it so that there's nothing left over to slow down the phone.
Thanks,

The DRM are loosing only when you want to unlock your bootloader
But as mcgrathpatj said, try a factory reset in first
