[Q] Safestrap/Visix/Phone Issue - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I have visix and safestrap 3.75 installed on my att gs5. I wanted to switch to another rom so I booted safestrap, factory reset and tried flashing another rom. I received a failed status with an error mounting /system and /systemorig message. I rebooted ss and received the same errors. I robot system and what do you know, instead of a bootloop, I got visix starting up like a fresh install. I know this has to do with the inability to access /system. If any of you guys can help me out it would be highly appreciated. BTW visix team your rom is awesome, so I don't mind being stuck on it until I can get it resolved. thanks a bunch you guys

Try rerooting. It might help. Also you want to full wipe the system, data, cache, and davilk, just to be on the safe side. Everything but external card.

When I first did it I did do advance wipe with everything except SD card selected. I did the towelroot again but no avail. Would I have to fully stock it through download? Man or should I try the Ota update?

Do not update if you have the chance. I would restore in Odin if you don't have the chance to try the re root.

When you say rerooting do you simply mean rerunning towelroot? Or is there another method I can try? I currently am rooted still Idk if that matters. Thanks for the help rbedell.

After installing different roms you can lose root. Just run the towel root again, reboot OS, reinstall Safestrap. Might not be your problem though. If not Odin the AP file of your current android version.

It didn't make a difference. I won't have access to a computer to use odin until tomorrow, but I will post back with results then:good:. Thanks for the help rbedell.

I had the same problem yesterday with Dynamin Cat. At first I downloaded it with my comp and transferred it to my SD card and I would get the " failed " sign when flashing it. Either it was a corupt download or got messed up when transferring it to my SD card. Either way I re downloaded it with my phone and saved it directly to my sd card and it worked fine that way.

So my apologies if this has been covered, have seen similar things but not quite the same . . .
been running decrapped. (was on revolt 1.0 or 1.1 a while back, but went back to decrapped.)
so . . . restored my original v4 backup from june, system and boot. wiped data.
and now it won't update! when i go to settings --> about phone --> update --> check for new, it downloads, but when the phone reboots itself, it says update failed, and i'm still on v4. tried it a few times.
also, lost clockwork . . . tried to reboot into clockwork, and when i said "yes, wipe data and return to factory settings", it didn't go into clockwork, but actually wiped data and returned to factory settings.
what am i doing wrong??!!
thanks!
Sounds like you need to download the revo stock you need to make sure everything is back to normal for some reason even if the boot.img. is different it won't update

Or you could follow these instructions. I did this going from Revolt Rom 1.5 to V4 stock then upgraded to V6 then V7.

First off, thanks for all the work you have been doing!
I have used LGNPST to first goto V6 with no luck, so I then used LGNPST to get to V4. I was unable to get the update with either one of these installed.
I then rooted and used your CWM zip posted earlier today, rebooted and used your RevoToolKit to reinstall the stock boot image. I even went so far to uninstall RevoToolKit after putting the stock image back on the phone thinking LG could tell I had it??
No matter what I do, when I choose "Software Update" "Check for New Updates" it still says nothing is available...
...Maybe I should get the original Moto Razr flip phone back out of my closet...
You want to make sure you uninstall CWM and revert back to the stock boot before you run the update from Verizon.

Is using RevoToolKit and installing the "!!!REVO STOCK!!!" the same as your reference of the "stock boot?"
Maybe I am making the assumption than the RevoToolKit's, "Revo Stock" image is correct, when in fact I should just leave the stock image that comes with LGNPST???

I did NOT use adb, and used CWM to restore the nandroid backup. SO either option apparently yields same results.
Maybe this issue stems back to the first day and first root of the phone and doing something different. I would assume using LGNPST would get the phone to its truly stock form though... ?

Was a bit confused as to how to remove clockwork and why it disappeared on me earlier, but I think the answers to those questions are one and the same. (I'm not used to revotoolkit, rooted and installed cwm before revotoolkit existed and hence never installed it until today . . . )
I skipped flashing your revo stock zip, assuming my original back up would be good enough, but apparently I was wrong.

When you use the RevoToolKit to flash the stock boot image, you are replacing (removing) the CWM recovery. It is all one step essentially.
The instructions to 'remove CWM and reinstall stock' are actually 1 step.

right. that's where i got confused, never having used revotoolkit!
you hit "install clockwork recovery" at the bottom right, choose !!RevoStock!!, and reboot. this will both install the stock recovery and delete cwm.
I couldn't update to v6, either. but following mt's instructions worked. it's essentially what i had tried previously, though i had restored my own backup of v4 rather than flash the zip mt posted earlier; flashing the zip made the difference.

[Q] bootloop, unrooted stock phone, how do I recover?

Ok first off, I am pretty green newbie, please help me understand this stuff.
This is my girlfriend's phone, she was using it and it reset itself and now it seems to be stuck in a boot loop.
We'd like to try and recover the original system back to normal without having to use the built in system reset. I've heard I can do that by wiping the dalvk cache?
It is not rooted, and I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure it out. There's ways to root it but I can't get into the system to run things like zergrush or the other options.
I tried to flash clockwork mod, but since the built in recovery tool only sees the INTERNAL SD contents, I only have access to the EXTERNAL SD card to put ZIPs in. I tried to use ADB to push the zip onto the internal SD Card but it says access denied (because it's unrooted?) Now what?
So short of system resetting it and loosing all the system settings or trying to see if we can send it into samsung for a replacement, how do I do this?
Thank you for any help in advance. Please be gentle.
Put cwm on the phone via Odin, on a question asked yesterday almost exact problem I posted a link with instructions how to do this, MAKE SURE it is a t679 not t759! Otherwise you will brick your device

Unrooted, your only real options are factory reset or use Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda app-developers app
That is not true, if he gets cwm on it via Odin he can flash to stock through cwm, doing so would bring the phone back to out of the box condition with 2.3.6. Also it will save ALOT of time doing cwm through Odin rather than return to stock via odin
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda app-developers app
It is a T679, yes.
OK according to the wiki page for the phone, I see how to use Odin to bring the phone back to stock, which is great, but I just want to be able to root it to wipe the dalvik cache in hopes of stopping the boot loop. Hopefully this would get the phone working like normal again without deleting the old system, right?
With the Odin program, how would I use it to force the CWM.zip to root it and give me access to the recovery menu to wipe the cache? Or am I missing something?
Again, sorry for not quite getting this stuff. Thank you for helping.

My bad, I forgot there was a cwm for Odin on this phone. I got mine after the 2.3.6 update and you could flash it thru stock recovery. Plus I've only used Odin once and that was to root my Gtab 2.

OK thank you guys, using Odin did manage to get CWM recovery pushed into the phone.
The current problem is that wiping cache/dalvik is not fixing the boot looping.
I tried wiping battery stats, fixing permissions, wiping cache/dalvik, etc. and while it does cause the phone to sit on the "SAMSUNG" opening for about 2 mins, it still bootloops after that.
now, because I want to try and somehow preserve the old stock system (she has a lot of settings and programs that she needs to get access to) I can't just wipe everything and start over fresh.
Now, again, I am a newbie, but if I'm not mistaken, can I do a nandbackup onto the external SD card and this will allow me to just wipe to original stock, get it fully working again, then do an ADVANCED RESTORE of only the /system to get it back to the way it was before?
Again thanks for the help (and putting up with newbies) :3

If you go back to stock and then advanced restore system you will probably be right back where you are now. Do another backup before trying that.
P.S. Make sure you have a way to keep track of the backups. Write it down or something.

[Q] UIDS Inconsistent + Safestrap Issues

Hey, guys, I seem to have a predicament with my Verizon Bionic. I'm using Safestrap 3.11 to run AOKP 4.2.2 Milestone 1.
Now, my problem: these last couple days I have started to receive the "UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable." error. I constantly start getting messages telling me apps have stopped, and any changes I make to files or settings seem to be applied but on reboot everything is the same as it's been.
I tried deleting the ROM slot (I have AOKP loaded in rom-slot2) but even after I choose to load my stock ROM my phone boots into AOKP, meaning I can't boot into the stock ROM. I tried fixing permissions, and that doesn't work. I have tried to flash the latest AOKP nightly but whenever I place the zip on my phone's internal storage it disappears when I reboot as my phone reverts to how the filesystem was before. I haven't put an external SD Card in my phone yet.
I have tried factory resetting my phone through Safestrap, AOKP, and stock Android recovery to find there's no change.
Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I tried using RSD Lite 5.7 to flash 98.72.22 FXZ JB but to no avail. Is there a way to manually wipe my data partition, perhaps via a Linux distro?

I think this was the same thing I saw on Titanium Backup Pro when I changed ROM slots (from Icarus to CM10.1.2) It says my device ID has changed, and offered to reset it for me back to the old number. I let it do it, and I haven't had any problems.
I think flashing a new ROM generates a new device ID, and this breaks all the secure storage encryption keys among other problems, which is why it's best to leave it alone or flash it back.

Well the main problem seems to be that I cannot change anything in the filesystem without it being reverted on restart. I haven't had an offer to reset it, and I cannot reflash, as there's no way to put a ROM zip on the phone without it disappearing when i reboot into safestrap. Even deleting the ROM slot does nothing.
Have you tried fixing permissions for the ROM?

just some suggestions:
i have done like 9 bionics with safestrap 3.x and only had problems iwth two, those problems went away after removing recovery and deleting the safestrap directory in internal memory from a PC, I had 0 memory available that was the problem , it all fixed after FORMATING "sdcard" (internal storage" from storage menu)
have you tried using an sdcard for storing the new rom instead of using internal memory?
try installing the newest safestrap (just overwrite if it wont let you remove the one you have).

I can't boot into stock to remove safestrap. If I could, that would probably solve my problem.
Anything I modify using a PC just reverts when I reboot my phone.

i never tried but maybe you can remove safestrap recovery from a non stock slot, dunno what would happen but if i was in your case i would try.
Also try removing the safestrap directory from your pc (i know you said everything was back to same after reboot but didnt get clear if you tried removing the safestrap dir).
Probably the cleanest solution HERE

Stuck in a bootloop with no backup on phone!

ViperROM 1.1.0 on Sprint.
So, I everything was working fine, until I decided I wanted to put a new tweak on in the MoDaCo toolkit. I did it, and then rebooted the phone. Bootloop. Well, maybe we can just reboot it, and the bootloop will be fixed! Bootloop. Well, we can clear the cache, from TWRP and a cmd propt! Bootloop.
Now, me being the idiot that I am, I didn't keep a backup on my device. It's on my computer. So, is there a way I can get it back on the device from the off state, bootloader, or recovery? Is there a fix for this, even after clearing the cache? I guess wiping the data isn't an issue since I have the backup on my computer, but then how do I get it on the phone?
Help please, as I currently am without a phone!!!
EDIT: WAIT WAIT WAIT... I just booted up after 20 minutes of bootloop. I guess these MoDaCo mods take forever to apply! I now know that for future reference! Jeez I got freaked out! Everything seems to be working fine, but thanks to everyone for their replies if this ever actually does happen!

Did you try the steps to disable the xposed framework to get you out of the boot loop and then disable the module that caused it. From the xposed support page:
In case you get into a boot loop:
You can flash the attached Xposed-Disabler-CWM.zip by Tungstwenty. It will be copied to your (external) SD card when you install Xposed as well. The only thing it does is copying /system/bin/app_process.orig back to /system/bin/app_process, which you can also do yourself (e.g. with adb shell in recovery mode).
You could also create a file /data/xposed/disabled, which causes Xposed to be bypassed as well.
Try that. If no luck then you can sideload with twrp recovery from this guide:

Everything seems to be working fine, but thanks to everyone for their replies if this ever actually does happen!

[Q] How to access sd card through recovery

Can you please help me on this one? Yesterday i updated my nightly cm11 to the newest version. I didn't backup any of my data. It booted normally and i tried to restore my old Android-ID via Titanium, but suddenly my phone restarted and after retrying to restore the ID again, it didn't work and it said, it couldn't find any old ID in the setting storage. I remembered that i have some older Titanium Backups on my laptop and after it failed again with the new added backups, i tried to restore the whole setting storage in apps list in Titanium. At first, it didn't showed any effect so i tried to reboot it and now i'm stucked on a loop. I can't flash the rom, because i deleted the rom from my sd card to get more storage.
TL; DR: How can you get access on your sd by using recovery? If i plug my phone via usb, it shows me my 2 sd cards, but i can't open them. (when i mount usb storage, the 2 sd cards on my laptop just disappear)

You might have to try on another pc/laptop. You should be able to access them in recovery if you mount storage (sd).

Have you tried clean flashing? If it doesn't work, you'll most likely have to flash stock kk4 without bootloaders and start fresh from there.

Since it was getting worse and worse (i tried to apply an old cm10 backup via cm), i wasn't even able to get into recovery mode. I flashed stock kk4 with odin but now it won't let me get to usb storage: Seconds after i plug my phonevia usb just to load or to load sth on my sd card, my phone shuts down and the green loading bar appears until a new reboot starts into the green bar etc...
Is this a common bug? I searched in the forums, but couldn't find this kind of.
I guess i have some weird mount/unmount problems since i even wasn't able to get into mass storage via recovery beforehand when i had the bootloop. And the strange thing now is, that odin didn't formatted my sd card (i still got my music and stuff)

Odin doesn't format your sd card anymore.
I'm not so sure about the bug you're having. Feels like your internal might be dead but that would mean no recovery too. Do you have a external sd in?

I find it weird that you get the same issue on KK4. Have you tried it on a different pc?

Yes, i tried different battery charger, but it keeps on rebooting. :/ Coming from KK4 do i have to root the phone again or can i go ahead and flash a rom? (rom manager telling me it couldn't find superuser/device not rooted ) Maybe a new rom will help?

I doubt it will make a difference but you'll have to flash corn kernel using Odin. From there, follow the full rom instructions. there's also a flashing guide in the stickies.

Flashing corn kernel 7.05 made me stuck at the corn logo screen, couldn't even get into cwm. Now i got back to kk4 with odin. Should i give it another shot or should i try superoneclick?

You don't have to use superoneclick.
I'd suggest you try speedmod kernel then and boot directly in recovery.

I was able to get into recovery with speedmod kernel, but a normal boot wasn't possible, just stucked at the galaxy s screen. After root and a full wipe, i couldn't flash a rom (cm11) due getting status 0 error.
Ok i flashed cm9 and this one is completely fine. No more usb issues also. I flashed cm11 and it seems fine. I hope it will stay that way. Thank you very much for caring.
I have one more question. One thing that is very frustrating is to lose all your customized data and settings with flashing. Since messing around with titanium lead me to this problem i want to know what's your favorite backup tool? Will a normal backup via recovery save ur apps and settings?

You can restore your apps data with titanium, just don't restore system apps.
