[Q] Vibration stopped working - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
The vibration motor of my SGSIII Mini stopped working. It happened after I updated the Recovery to TWRP v2.7.1.1 by NovaFusion.
* CM 11 by NovaFusion [20140724]
* TWRP v2.7.1.1 by NovaFusion [20140720]
Flashing a stock ROM did not fix anything. Maybe pointless but also tried to flash another Recovery. Nothing changed.
Does anybody have an idea how to bring it back? Should I go for a vibration motor replacement?
Thank you!

Does it still vibrate when you turn it on?
I mean that little vibrate before bootlogo appears.

No. No vibration at all. Anywhere.

That vibrate is there to tell that bootloader is loaded, before os loads, so if no vibrate is there then it's probably the motor or a loose connector to it.
Unless you got warranty left you could try to change it. They're probably cheep on eBay.
Otherwise take it to service.

Nope. I have to find some time and give it for service. What happened with yours exactly? Do you have vibration when the phone powers on and boots?

I don't know what happened to my device, it just stopped vibrating out of a sudden.. Maybe the device felt upset because it knew that I want to buy another phone..:laugh:
Just out of a sudden no vibration during phone calls, messaging, power on / off.. My device is rooted by the way..
Sometimes, the vibration came slowly when I received notifications, but then disappeared again.. I don't know whats wrong.. maybe hardware related..

How to stop startup vibration?

How to stop startup vibration? I detest this feature very much! help!
Im sorry to report I can't really help you with this as im no real genius on the matter but im guessing it may be due to some sort of P.O.S.T response on the device similar to the beep you here on some older pc's and laptop's. If so it may be easier for someone to find the right registry entry to change. Then again I may be talking out of my backside. Good Luck!

Are you talking about vibrate on connection ?
Start> phone> menu>options> advanced> uncheck vibrate device when connection is established.
He's talking about when you turn the device on..
I think he's talking about the vibrate when the phone boots (from a soft or hard reset, or from turning the phone completely off)
why so bother about that vibration?
What's it matter...? He still wants to turn it off....
I'd like to as well..
I means how to stop power-on vibration or hard or soft startup vibration. anyone has already stop the vibration, it's really boring!
i would actually be interested in that as well, i have my phone setup to automatically reset itself every day at 3 in the morning, and the vibration from the reset sometimes wakes me up.
yea, i dun like the vibration either.. But i doesnt make a very big deal though
My phone feels shaking , something loose from vibrating effect.

It is decreasing the battery life time , maybe not much for 1 boot.. but if you boot 20 times in a day.. ( god may know why ) Than it would be handy

I think the booting itself will require more power than the one short vibration at the beginning

the vibrating sure isnt helping the battery life either and i would like to disable this also. 10+ resets a day here and each time it vibrates my wife thinks someone is texting me! lol
Additionally, can anyone help get rid of those red numbers during boot-up?
I know that's an obnoxiously complex task that may be impossible for seemingly little payoff, but consider:
1. They prevent using the entire display for splash images, unless you want it covered up for part of the time,
2. My friend is color-blind, and won't be able to tell if they're red, green, or purple - I don't want him to not be sure,
3. They could attract a bull, if you waved it around accidentally in Madrid,
Etc.
I'm sure you can tell there are no shortage of reasons.
Anyone have any ideas?

If you're SR'ing 10 times a day, it's time to fix something on your phone.

Did it here Settings > Language and Keyboard > Touch Input > Text Input > Calibration Tool
But still the same.. Do i need to reset the calibration?
Have you tried to reset phone? If that doesn't help, try factory restore
mine plays up. im stuck on cyanogenmod, cant go on other roms or even stock yet -.-
Basically it stops working or certain parts wont work, I would then press the power button (to put screen into sleep) and then wake it up then it's good again. very frustrating though.
I have a long pattern to unlock my phone and sometimes it won't work because certain parts of the screen isnt working. It's not physically broken I think, because all it needs it to be turned off and back on then it's good to go.

No. Turn off fastboot in power menu, then turn phone off and turn it on again. That should do the job. I had that problem either, but very, very rarely.

Probably it hardware problem rather than software, but you should try factory data reset first (settings, sd& phone storage). There is possibility that some app caused this.

Im new to this lol my firmware is 2.3.5 and build number is GINGERBREAD.XXJVT
Official firmware huh? Well, you can try to do a factory reset if see if that helps, but it might also be a hardware issue.

When you say vibration, do you refer to vibration as haptic feedback or the one when you receive a phone call? Have you checked the setting?
You also might want to check if it's hardware or software related. Go to hidden menu (3845#*880#), ELT test, choose Manual mode, and choose Vibrator. If it vibrates, you can rest assured it's software related. Reflashing your phone might just fix it.

Well, if it's hardware related stuff, there's nothing much we can do. I think what you're doing is the best possible thing to do right now. Good luck. Hope your device will be just fine

Please help! No vibration!

Hi, so I was just texting with my phone using switkey and the vibration suddenly stopped. No vibration, so I thought it was a normal issue and the vibration would come back after a reboot. The same thing happened to me once, and it was fixed through that. But this time, nothing...It doesn't even vibrate when it boots, recovery mode, nothing. I'm running on Insert Coin and I have had no problem. And I haven't dropped the phone dangerously, I even have an otterbox to ensure its safety. But why did it stop vibrating? Is it a hardware issue? A software issue? Please help. I need the phone fixed by tomorrow, this is really important. I'm selling it to a friend and I need it fixed fast. Please help me.

If it does not vibrate on boot, it's a hardware fault, sorry.
I had the same, it was repaired in warranty.
If u still have warranty, use it.
Thanks guys, even though I had the vibration issue I still managed to sell it for a good price. I bought the phone off Craigslist so no warranty, and it was rooted so yeah. Thanks anyways guys. I appreciate the help. And especially the first dude who replied. That test mode is gonna prove really useful when buying a phone off Craigslist.
