[Q] HTC ONE (overheating, battery draining) - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yo guys.
I have HTC ONE M7 32GB white. last month i crashed my display so i ordered new display on ebay. then i watch some tutorials and changed it by myself. everything works perfect but i think its a lil bit overheating. Batteryy have something about 40 degrees but its overheatting near bottom speaker on the right side... My battery works about 15-20 hours without doing anything and, but if its screen on and i am surfing on the internet battery is draining alot. ( i was thinking it was for a old battery but i buy new and draining is still reallly fast). and somewhere near 20 percent battery or less its draining like a hell. today it was showing that i have 17 % and after a few minutes it was totally discharged.... and i think the charging is too slowly. Have someone the same problem ? and another problem is the speaker. It work normal but when i wanna call someone i cant hear anything. only if i turn call on speaker mode it is working. Thanks for all replies.

15-20 hours is way to low for standby. Mine got about 130 hours in standby. Check *#*#4636#*#* the batteryinfo. If the condition says OK then its not a battery problem.

If you are using a custom rom then revert your phone back to stock and test again.
If your phone is stock then do a factory reset and test again
If the problem persist then its most likely an hardware defect, either a worn out battery or something wrong with your radio chip.

O2 XDA IIi battery problem

I've problem with my battery indication on my O2. I fully charge my battery, after 2 or 3 hours later suddendly the indicator drop down to less then 20%. I put the phone on standby (never use). But when i take out the battery from the unit and then put it back.. the indicator shows back to its real percentage. anyone facing the same problem like mine?.. please help me.. its bugging me already.. i have to take out my battery everytime this happen.
Sometimes my battery would jump striaght down to 0% which was scary! It would go back to normal after a while. What programs are you running? I had a suspicion is was a program causing it before i update the version (phoneAlarm).
yeah mine to sometime straight to 0%... yeah i'm using phonealarm too..hmm maybe so. anyone else facing the same problem with us please tell your experiance here.
Yes, I 've experience the same problem just likeyou guys, I'm using o2 XDA IIi with a lot of SPB software
and I'm sure that is because of using too much application in the background.
my battery won't last more than 12 hours this is so annoying
and then when I'm travelling to Australia the O2 XDA IIi suddenly hard reset itself because the Main battery was 0%
but now it went just fine after the hard reset
well that's my suggestion, don't use too much application in the background.

Battery Problem

Had my HTC Diamond (Orange) around a week now using the ROM that came with it, 1.37.405.1.WWE.
I cant get the battery to last more than 8 hours, on average it lasts 6/7 hours! I am charging it overnight around 12 hours and all bars are full at the start but it drains so fast.
I have turned off 3G, bluetooth, wifi etc... set backlight to go off automatically, generally i have it locked so backlight is dimmed most of the time.
I am not making any calls or even sending texts or actually doing anything, its just laid on my desk while im at work, so who knows how long it would last if i did!
Do you think i have a dodgy battery? i dont fancy sending it back to orange with their stock problems. Would a new battery solve the issue? ROM update? or could it even be a dodgy handset? cheers. J
Well it's a normal lifetime for the Diamond...
(It's a joke...)
If what you sayed is true, there is 3 possibilities :
1) You don't have any network coverage so the diamond is seeking for one and that will drain your battery quickly... (but not sure such quickly..)
2) You're battery is dead ?
3) You'd installed an application that drain your battery.. try a hardreset to see....
I'll try a hard reset.
I'm making sure no apps are open also, Task Manager is empty. Could there be anything else running secretly in the background.
I've seen the stories of bad battery life, but 6/7 hours just seems ridiculous considering im not even using the phone, just leaving it in a state of unlocked...
I have had my Diamond for about a month now, and had been suffering from most of the usual battery issues, I am running Dutty;s Project V2 rom
A few days ago I downgraded to the .05 radio and this seems to have cured the battery issue, I do turn off bluetooth and 3G when I dont need them.
This does seem to have cured things nicely, looks like the phone will last 2 days or so

Rapid battery drain (under 7hrs)

Hi all,
over the last 2 weeks i have noticed my diamond getting pretty damn hot on random occasions and really chewing through the battery, i have run task manager when this occurs but no process is shown using alot of CPU.
I have read alot of threads on here descibing similar symptoms, some are just people who have wifi on or using CPU intensive applications, this i expect. But a few other users have described symptoms similar to mine where they are not using the phone and nothing appears to be running.
I am getting the problem with both my original HTC battery and the 3rd party spare i brought.
From reading the board the only definite cure seems to be a hard reset.
What im really after is any suggestions you people may have that can help me determin the actual cause of the problem, for example is their any software that will log CPU usuage over time or other diagnostic ideas.
thanks for your time
checking email regularly?

Maybe you might wanna check if you have the automatic mail checking feature on? Because I noticed that whenever I let my phone automatically look for email quite regularly (i.e. every 5 or 10 mins) it drains more battery then when you set it to check email every 2 hours for instance. Well that's what has helped in my case...hope this helps...
I have looked at my mail settings and my mail checks every 2 hours, i have had it set to 2 hours since i had the device (6 months) but this rapid battery drain has only started occuring in the last 2 weeks.
In that time i have not installed any new software, so am at a loose end as to the cause of the trouble
Hello,
I did had the same symptom : worked really good for 6 months (battery lasted for 30h +-) and in one time, battery was sucked out in 8 ! I did buy a new one (900mah) and it did the same. The only solution I find was to buy the 1350mah (htc) one and from this moment it last more than 2 days without any problem.
Also, I use G-light in place of the standard windows function and from this moment I really had a difference (from BatLog I went from 142mah to 123mah).
Hope it help (yeah I know: buying a bigger battery is not fun but for a device at this price, it's not so much...)

thanks for the feedback, i will order a new battery and give it a try, at the least it will prove if the problem is hardware or software related.
today my phone still has 63% battery since i removed it from charge at 11pm last night. The fact that the problem is intermittent is making it very dificult to diagnose.
Today I noticed my wi-fi drains battery as hell, it was lie 60%+ of battery down in less than 40 minutes. In the past it was like 40% max. The PowerGuard's current meter did not show anything alarming. So the problem seems to be hardware.
Already backed up and hard resetted. The phone is under warranty and so is battery; sending it to service to get it fixed.
Or, I missed something and I can fix it?
Hey,
Yeah I'm currently experiencing the same problem.. I tired just about everything from battery fix cab, radios, to roms. I even got the orginal extended battery. The battery worked really well for like 2 weeks and then it started to drain really fast as well.. My cousin have the same phone as me HTC Diamond, and his battery is verry good.. It can last a whole day with heavy usage no problem. Where as my 1340MAH battery would only lask for 14hrs max with heavy usage, and when we switch the battery same stuff happens... His battery on my phone drains quickly and mine last long on his phone...
So I came to the conclusion that it's definitely a hardware issue.
For those without battery problem, how much usage do you get out of a battery and what kind of things do you do with the phone? I'm just trying to gauge how bad my batter is. It will last about 8-9 hours, but that's with hald of that time spent on the internet on either 3g or edge. I've only had the phone for about a week so it's hard for me to compare it to anything else.
other little things like disabling autobacklight and disabling 3G will help as well.

One of the things you might want to check is if your phone is constantly trying to switch from 2g to 3g or HSPDA. This constant searching for a "faster" signal can make the phone quite hot and drain the battery quite quickly.
I had it on my diamond when I used to live at my old place as it was right on the edge of a 2g/HSPDA and the phone was constantly trying to get a decent HSPDA signal. The battery would last maybe half a day if I was lucky. Since moving to a decent 3g area, the battery now lasts me a good 2 days on nomal usage. This is with the original battery.

a good tip to save battery power which is something we all have to do, but i do not think its the cause of my new found rapid battery drain.
The last 6 moths i have been getting around a day to day and a half rom the the phone. now on random occasions ot will get real hot (like the gps/wifi is on or like the cpu is flat out) and the power goes in a few hours.
this is fine if its daytime and catch it but a few times its gone from 100% to 0% overnight and i have woken late for work.

interesting, i will leave the phone on 2G for the next few weeks and see if i experiance the rapid drain, maybe i am on the edge of a 2G 3G nexus, as i do get a fairly weak signal here (2 bars 3G and full bars 2G)
thanks for the suggestion

From you last sentance it does sound like it the 2g/3g switching that is cauing your problems.
i have this issue too.
my phone will drain ~5-7% every hour in standby. and when wifi is on it drains 2% every minute even staying on the home screen and me not doing anything on the phone.
from reading this thread, i can see that this is definitely not normal. looks like i'm headed for a dreaded hard reset...
Good day to all. At first sorry form my eanglish/
I have a same problem with diamond. It is overheating while charging at standby (battery temp. is about 50 C), and if it charges by USB, the battery temp is about 46 - 47 C. The phone's fly mode is switch on. HTC service couldn't answer me smth. But it says that same problem have 2 diamond from 1000, and only way to resolve problem is a change of mother board. in Russia it's about 250 euro.
And one more notice, which battery temp is 46 or 47 C, charging automaticaly switched off... Phone heating, but battery is not charging !!!
i've resolve problem...but don't know how i did it. I try to recharging stock acc. while 4 or 5 cicles, and today i have workable Diamond.
not discharge
not overheating
it's so strange, but it works

HTC ONE serious battery draining problem

Hello, i have my htc one a couple of weeks now and from the first time i noticed paranormal battery drain activity!
So first i tried to turn everything off it didn't help, more analyticaly:
Energy Saving Mode = On
Beats Audio = on
Brightness = 1st of the three brightness modes
Wifi = off
GPS = off
Location Services = off
Accounts Sync = all off
HSDPA = on and off after done using data
Apps running in the background = i closed each and every one immediately after done using them
Blinkfeed = completely off
Then I tried to reset battery memory by completely let the battery discharge and recharge overnight twice, i have seen no improvement.
When i surf or facebook i can see the battery meter to drop down 1% almost every 2 minutes or so, some times less with the above mentioned settings.
Also i have noticed that in standby with everything off there's still significant battery drainage.
I kept the best for last, just 10 minutes ago while connected on my computer via usb cable, fully charged at 100% with green led on top for more than an hour i just did a reboot, and after the reboot with the usb cable still connected i saw the battery 99% ?????? After what, a reboot and still connected to the usb and charging ? WTF?
Device info:
HTC one 32 gb bought from Vodafone Greece
android version 4.2.2 stock
software version 2.24.401.1
kernel version 3.4.10-g445d072
On top of that, it seems that my device also has the blue ghosting noise camera bug on low light enviroments.
My emotions are like; I love and hate this phone at the same time.
I'm afraid using my phone's capabilities due to serious battery drainage!!
Any thoughts ?

Try this app to see if you have an app installed that is draining your battery.
My first One had a bad battery - would only last for half a day.. the phone I have now lasts a day or more.

an advice: use gsam to get objective battery stats, a good battery life should be around 5+ hours of screen

With stock? Holy Damn that's crazy! I get 2.5 on a regular day. 3 with continuous use. Should I do a factory reset?

it depends on how you use your phone and how much time it has been turned on. If your phone has been on for more than 24 hours then 3 hours of screen is fine. But yeah maybe you should do a factory reset and install gsam to monitor your battery stats and the apps that are sucking your battery. I have noticed that facebook chat drains the battery too fast.

I think you live in a sunny place, if you do than 2.5 hours is sort of normal at full brightness, if you want 5 or longer you need to set the brightness way lower but I think that sort of dimishes the beauty of the screen, enjoy it on auto-brightness

What nonsense?!
70% of my screen time is medium. I rarely use my phone in the sun.
I usually get around 2.5 screen/<14 total hrs. That's not normal? My phone's not set up right? Yay!
Or maybe it's the facebook. My auto sync is off, but I will disable the FB apps and see how that goes.
I actually do have GSAM, and it tells me that my kernel uses ~25% of my power. Android system is usually ~15%. Is that normal? If so, I may try a backup/reset.
Screen uses ~10% of power and main app is Chrome, with little to no Maps/Voice in a day.
A quick report after factory reset seems like that my battery is somewhat normal
1day 7hours and I still have 34% remaining
Use: half standby half normal use
I have the Dev Edition 64Gb One and I'm getting just 12 hours! I have autobrightness on, Greenify taking care of all the apps I don't use so frequently, not using maps/location services. I noticed each time I enter recovery, I have like 4% less than what my phone says and if I turn it on I have now what the bootloader said! Weird, and I was shocked to see this when I red a lot of people were having fantastic battery life.
Also, as I'm so lucky, mine has the blue/red thing in the camera, and a small gap in the top. It seems I got the All-(Problems)-In-One One..

Try with InsertCoin + Elemental kernel, with no pocketdetection or sweep2wake etc. and the recommended undervolting in the aroma installation
That gives me like 5.5 hours of screen with the phone turned on for 20+ hours and wifi: 6+hours, all of this with an average usage
hello again I noticed a rather peculiar thing regarding battery drainage.
couple of days ago when I reported that my battery was somewhat normal I had my phone charged with energy saving mode off I charged this way two times since the factory reset. Everything was normal I was able to get one+ day of use. Yesterday though I charged my phone with energy saving mode ON and I immediately noticed abnormal battery drain as before.
Can anyone with battery drain problem try to fully charge their phone with energy saving mode off and post their results?
I have a strong feeling that there is a bug or something.
My problem is, the phone is fully charged. i disconnect the charger and a few seconds later the battery is between 96% and 93%. I connect it to the charger, charge it back to 100% (led green) disconnect it, and the same happens again.
I already let the Phone discharge to 1%. The same happening again.
Someone any idea? thx
Same problem here, just sent it in to HTC for camera repair, got it back. Then battery problems. Sent it back because of the battery, still crappy. 32GB Unlocked. I get 10 hours at most on idle, everything off.

Go to setting>mobile data>network mode select something else than LTE and reboot your phone. Then select back Lte and reboot your phone.I had the same problem. I found this on other forums and this helped me a lot.
I have a HTC One 32 gb Three UK.
I have exactly the same problem with the high drainage.. before I could get easy 5-6 hours screen on throughout the day. now it even don't lasts a half day.. no change in my apps or settings/kernel.. really weird problem. I think it has to do with the hotness of the Phone and the purple camera fault. Don't know what to do anymore!

[Q] Battery drain, cant find the cause!!

Gentleman, currently im having a big issue with my S3 Mini.
Some weeks ago, the battery started draining in a really short lapse of time. We are talking of aprox. 12 hourse of low usage (one phonecall, no sms, little whatsapp mesagging, some web sufring). By checking Betterbatterystats, i can confirm that almost 11 hours, the phone screen is off (or maybe 10 hours and a half).
I dont know what to do, i turned on airplane mode, and the problem persits. Changed rom 3 times (4.1.2 to 4.4, to 4.1.2 again), wiped data, cache, system, internal memory, etc..
Betterbatterystats screenshots are ATTACHED TO THE POST!!, to see if you cand find a wakelock, alarm, or something that can be interfering the battery life. (btw, i ruled out that theory since i changed rom and wiped everything so many times, but maybe there is something attached indefinetlely to the phone, really dont know).
The battery itself is the only reason in my mind right now, but the phone is only 9 months old (as well as the battery of course).
One thing that calls my attention, is that the charging time takes 2 hours max, maybe 1 hour and a half. Can the battery be damaged with so little lifetime?
Appreciate your help!!!

i can most certainly say that it's the battery, but don't run out buying a new one, yet. Wait 'till someone else confirms it
i had the same problem half a year ago (mine was also 8-9 months old back then). The phone started rebooting and many weird stuff happened I changed the battery and everything was ok. Now it's acting up again and i might change battery again.

Turn off wifi and reboot that helps sometimes . On the first Screenshot was your wifi always on. On the last Screenshot was your Android OS on the first place. That was the 1GHz bug.
facebook updates
Don't have facebook app (only messenger), and without messenger app, the battery keeps draining.
I red on the internet that the 1ghz bug tends to appear on Cyanogenmod. Only had cyanogenmod 11 for some days, turned back again to the stock rom.
Could this bug affect my phone right now? How can i fix it?
If not, im really thinking of buying a new battery, but the risk of another problem affecting the battery usage from the phone keeps turning me back!
Thanks!!

if you didn't do a full wipe before moving back to stock maybe it could cause an issue

Its only 10 months old.

The battery don't seems to be neither round or thicker, and it don't spins freely.
Have you tried 'telling' the battery how much capacity it has again? (Drain until it automatically shuts down due to flat battery, charge back to 100% while off, switch on, drain again, charge again and use as normal)
Many manufacturers recommend charging when you reach 15-20% during normal use.
Also, have a look at govenors/schedulers if you have a custom ROM installed. Maybe changing combo works better for you, or even changing combo and switching back.

It won't harm your device. Would you mind sharing from where you're getting a 2000mah battery and if it's the same size as the 1500mah one from Samsung?
I'm currently on a 1700mah battery for the Galaxy Ace II

Im from Kenya but the battery is available on Ebay. I saw 2450 mah batteries that come with a case so I guess they are bigger. Battery is a huge issue for me. I only get 4hrs maximum on 3g on my current battery and is so fruatrating. How long does the Ace 2 battery last?
