WiFi does not turn on, WifiStateMachine failed to load driver? - Moto X Q&A

Recently, whenever I turn on the WiFi on my phone, it immediately flips back off. This issue is intermittent and happens seemingly randomly, persisting for a day or two, after which WiFi will work for a few days and then break again.
I'm running 4.4.4, VZW, completely stock, and I've already tried a factory reset and "safe mode" (without any third-party apps). Rebooting will sometimes stop the problem, but then it will come back.

Notice it says "Failed to load driver".
I would suspect a couple possibilities...
1) your 4.4.4 flash could have been corrupt. Check the MD5 of the 4.4.4 file you downloaded and make sure it matches what it is supposed to. Did you use the OTA update, or the recently posted FXZ?
If this is the case (MD5 doesn't match), download the entire FXZ, and re-flash -- see if the problem is resolved.
Even if the MD5s DO match, it's possible you have a corrupted/damaged filesystem, and FXZing will probably fix it. (This is the MOST likely possibility)
2) are you unlocked? If so, check your /persist folder and make sure this file is inside: WCNSS_qcom_wlan_factory_nv.bin
3) this probably isn't relevant at all, since your log says "failed to load driver", but do you have an atheros-based chipset in your wifi router? Does the issue happen on just one wifi access point, or every AP you try to connect to? I have seen conflicts with certain Atheros-based chipsets not playing nice with other clients.

Thanks for your reply! I've tried reflashing from the 4.4.4 system.img file that I found on the forums, which works sometimes but only for a short while before the problem begins to occur again. Is it possible that something within the ROM is causing the driver to become corrupted?
At any rate, I spoke to Verizon and they'll send me a replacement phone. Until then.... I'm going to try flashing system again just for kicks, although it didn't work last time.
Might it help to reflash the radios? Seems kinda risky...

Just a heads-up for those who have not managed to work out how to use Killswitch - despite very clear instructions in the Help and Tips dialog.
On a tablet with case the settings should look like this:
Enable Killswitch: tick
Admin Permissions: tick
Confirmation time: 10sec
Activation delay: 6sec
No-lock: Disable screen lock
Use proximity: no tick
Use light sensor: tick
Sensitivity: 10%
Use accelerometer: no tick
For a phone the settings should be exactly the same, except with "Use proximity sensor: tick". These are the settings Im using right now and they work perfectly.
The point of the app is also to avoid accidental sleep mode in a dark room through the popup dialog. Do not choose "Use accelerometer" unless you plan on using both light sensor and facedown at the same time. Instead, choose "Enable facedown mode only" if you see the popup dialog while using the tab in a dark room - this will disable the light sensor but enable facedown until you next swich on/ off.
Please read the Help and Tips section before giving up!
I've bought and installed Kill Switch for my galaxy tab, used the exact same settings shown above but it doesn't appear to be doing anything on my tab. I'm on overcome 1.2.3 and have the fugutweaks applied

Im using overcome 1.2 and its working just fine... also, its tested to work on JK5 and up stock roms.
Decrease activation delay in settings to 2 seconds, then try putting your finger over the light sensor to check whether its working - its just to the right of the front facing camera.
If not this is a kernel-related problem, so please send logcat!
Hmm...I appear to be having a problem with the light sensor. I can get the accelerometer to switch it off. I think I'm going to undo the fugutweaks, see if that's the problem.
Could you please post a logcat? This would be the easiest way to check what the problem is.
You can get the app aLogcat for free from the market. Use it after youve turned on killswitch and just post the resulting text here.

There is nothing about fahrbotapps in this logcat!
Try opening the Killswitch properties, unticking and again ticking "Enable Killswitch" and then running aLogcat.
Once its running put your finger over the light sensor and see what happens. Even if nothing happens within 10 seconds, pause the logging and then post here!

After upgrading to a newer version, please go into the settings dialog and enable Killswitch again. This is not optimal, but it saves battery and cpu time by removing the necessity for a constantly running service!

So after flashing honeystreak R8, my front camera still doesn't work. Not even with Skype. I guess it time to call Dell and see if they can fix it

No WIFI or mobile data after flashing CM 12.1

EDIT: I got mobile data working. WIFI still isn't working for me though.
I have been using CM 11 on my device for a while without any major issues. However, just recently I installed a SaberMod variant of CM 12.1 (from this thread) and can't get internet connectivity since. Due to the rules of this site I'm not allowed to post in the relevant thread though, that's why I'm posting here.
My questions: How can I diagnose the source of this issue? Where can I can get help? Do you have any ideas or quick fixes?

Debugging spontaneous reboot: how do you read this last_kmsg?

A couple times a day my Moto X (Dev Ed) reboots spontaneously. The only factor that seem to be in common is it was usually Bluetooth streaming at the time (I listen to a lot of podcasts via Doggcatcher) but can't find any other common factor.
It is running stock 5.1 (flashed from scratch, VZW version of ROM), unlocked bootloader, rooted, and Xposed. I've tried to pare down the number of Xposed module all the way down to the bare essentials (the L mobileRadioActive fix, Xtether, and so on) but it didn't seem to affect the reboot frequency.
It is a full reboot since I'm taken all the way back to the boot animation (I had customized boot_anim to the generic Google Android L, same as on a Nexus).
I Googled multiple topics on this but most of the links seems old, some all the way back to the Froyo days. The common topic is trying to decipher the last_kmsg left in the system...

Reading this doesn't seem it's a kernel crash at all, but some sort of requested reboot?
I finally got it to crash while doing logcat, but the only "F" level errors I can find refers to "binder process, and they are varied, : Binder_2, Binder_F, Binder _10.
Binder_10 is linked to ConnectivityService
Right after that, DoggCatcher crashed with a fatal exception on a java.lang.NullPOinterException

So what can I draw this report? Was DoggCatcher crashing my phone?

As far as I can tell, pn544 is the NFC chip used on many (most?) Android phones. So is NFC crashing my phone here or was I barking up the wrong tree again? Darn it.
If wasn't the NFC chip. I spent the whole day with NFC turned off. STILL rebooted.

Signal 9 i.e. Kill 9 is the OS flag to kill everything in preparation for shutdown. So the trigger happened long before this.
I'm troubleshooting a similar issue on a different device. We have in common that we use Xposed. Have you found the cause for your issues? Was it resolved with a newer Xposed build?

Wifi will not connect to anything

Hi all,
I have a HU from Witson thats a few years old now but upgraded to the PX5 chip about a year ago and its been working well until the last few days, The Wifi will not connect to anything I have tried 3 or 4 different mobile hotspots and even my home router and it will not connect it just attempts to join and nothing just says "Wifi failed to connect, My system has the MD725 Type2 so I'm stuck on android 6.0 with the mayla 7 ROM, I have tried doing the following
- Update the MCU - Same issue
- re flashed the HU with the base version of the Mayla 7 rom - Same issue
- Running out of options as this issue has only happened in the last few weeks :crying: has anyone had this issue before? I will link my logcat if someone can point out what is causing the issue,

FIXED!!
installed MCU again and reflashed again with stock rom and Wifi started to work again and reinstalled Malaysk Rom 7 updated to 7.2 all working perfect again No idea what was causing the Wifi from working but all is good now
