Simple story
T-Mobile is going to have Samsung Galaxy S II
Sprint is going to have Samsung Galaxy S II
Those carriers have A LOT of devices, Verizon has ONE, and it came 6 MONTHS LATE
Anyway, I waited all these months, and yesterday I signed a new 2 year contract and spent $329
Now, I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S 10.1, and man, that screen is second to none
Samsung just knows how to do a nice screen
Bevore I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, I had the Asus Eee Pad, and I returned that
Not because the Samsung has the better screen, but because the Samsung weight is SO LIGHT that I was attracted to that table
Now this Motorola Droid Bionic is a little on the heavy side, but I don't care about that
But, from my point of view, even though the speed is stupidly high (14Mbps)
I just feel like this screen is cheap
In THEORY, this screen is BETTER than the Samsung Galaxy SII, it has a bigger resolution
but when I move an icon (say I'm rearranging icons in the home screen)
I do like Verizon because it allows me to use 5,7,10 GB of bandwidth
Also Verizon is like $50 cheaper per month since my family already has a plan with Verizon
However, let's suppose that for the next 6 months I have to chose between
Verizon with this Bionic
Tmobile with Samsung Galaxy S II
Sprint with Samsung Galaxy S II
I don't like that with T-Mobile as soon as I enter BestBuy, WalMart, Fry's... the connection speed drops to levels of being 95% useless.
Now, I haven't tested Verizon, but if they took 6 months to bring this piece of crap to my hands, then I don't want to comit to their expensive $350 termination fee
I would be happy with Verizon and Samsung Galaxy SII, but of course, that combo doesn't exist
I live in Orange, CA
Any suggestions?
Anybody else this is the cheapest piece of screen EVER?
OR it's only me?
Verizon only has one phone? I could have sworn I saw about 50 of them on the walls.
then goto another carrier. personally I dont see what the big deal about the screen is. I had a charge and the screen was nice the hardware inside not so much. I also had a xperia play that was true junk. I like my bionic as it fits my needs thats not to say my wife wont end up with it if verizon gets the prime. but for now I like the bionic.
No offense but I have to say this....changing carriers to an inferior carrier just for a device is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.....enjoy your 2 bars at best
My advice....wait for roms

I'm probably taking mine back.
I hate this screen. Yes, I came off a Samsung too.
I don't really have anything bad to say about the phone otherwise. It's really good. However, for what I paid for the phone (paid full retail), I don't want to feel like I'm looking at a washed out cheese grater.
Roms aren't going to help that.
I'll probably go back to my Fascinate for another month or two until either the Vigor or Prime come out.

Hi guys, don't hurt me but I really don't understand where the people complaining about the screen are coming from. I mean, if I put my nose within 5 inches of the screen I guess I can see some pixelation, but I don't operate my phone from that distance so I don't have a chance of seeing it in normal use. Am I some troglodyte, or is this problem related only to some phones?
I also haven't had the issue where restarting causes you to lose aps.
I suspect that people who really flip out over the super AMOLED screens are those to whom over-saturated colors are most appealing (my wife is one of those), and those who are ambivalent or even turned off by the screens are those who are more attracted to desaturated or "mature" colors. I'm one of the latter, as I well know by having spent a lot of time picking out colors in my local home improvement store and analyzing why certain colors appealed to me and others did not. Consequently, I harmonize with the pentile screens better than with the AMOLED ones.
I don't believe the SG Tab 10.1 has a super AMOLED screen, so I doubt a reaction to that tablet is relevant from a screen perspective. I believe the 7.7" version is supposed to have one though.
I know it seems like Verizon isn't getting all the best phones, what with the Atrix hitting AT&T months and months ago and them not getting the SGSII at all, which was a great disappointment. But things have a way of leveling off over time. Another thing is that we focus so hard on the phone that's just around the corner that we forget what's already there. Verizon had two solid entries in the 4G LTE world, the Thunderbolt and the Charge before the Bionic was released. Both are very solid devices and have faster network than any other domestic phones.
And then we've got stuff coming down the pipe like the Vigor and a new Moto phone toward the end of the year, plus some beast from Samsung and perhaps even the Nexus. A year ago, when the X came out, it seemed like Verizon owned the Android world. But the pendulum swings, and in this industry it swings really fast. I think that your reasons for picking a carrier are far more important than any single phone, and that it's probably wise to see it through unless there are very strong reasons beside the phone to jump ship.
One other thing. It's a lot less trouble for you and a lot less expensive for Verizon if you research and test drive the phones and tablets you're considering before you buy them, and avoid having to return them. That drives prices up for everyone, and it's not necessary if you have a retail location in your area where you can see the devices in person. It also wastes less of your time. I'm not preaching at you, my friend, just putting some thoughts out there to ponder.
Moto's pentile screens are pretty washed out, but that's not even what I can't stand about them; I can't stand the pentile sub-pixel layout. I hated AMOLEDs when they used a pentile format (Galaxy S, Nexus S for starters). The SAMOLED+ completely solved the "bug screen" issue by using a traditional striped sub-pixel pattern. It's a wonderful thing, and I hope pentile goes the way of the dodo soon. I was about to get a Bionic until I played with the screen a bit. There's no way I could live with it.
Honestly, are half of the people in this thread joking?

It's not a matter of being a hater. I bought it. I gave it a shot. It doesn't work for me. I take it back and get something else later.
I don't see how that's being a hater, unless you're saying I should stick with a phone I'm not happy with simply to be in the club.

While I found the lack of color saturation mildly annoying, it was something that I could deal with. I had lasik done so my vision's very sharp and can pick up a lot of minute detail. I'm not saying I'm eagle eyed by any stretch of the imagination, but the acuity is good enough that I notice the checkerboard all the time. Others eyes are built differently like you said, so they pick up on different things.

I think that's generally a fair statement. Thing is though, when you're on the borderline, it takes more than just 10 minutes playing with it to get an idea if something is tolerable or not in the long run. The more I worked with the phone, the more I found that it was a deal breaker despite the other positives of the phone. I still lose some money, and the restocking fee is reasonable. And I'm sure Verizon factors in a certain amount of returns into their pricing as well.
I can see why Moto made the choice they did considering the energy savings. Just doesn't work for me. If the Droid HD comes out, or whatever they call it and it has the issue resolved, I'd give Moto another shot assuming the phone's at least rootable.

It's not about having it all. It's about being able to accept trade offs in something. What one person will accept is different than what another will.
I'm sure there will be trade offs with other phones too. They'll just be different.
Lucky for you Verizon has a 14day no worry policy so there you go.... may be a way around the termination fee...

Dude
Do this
DOWNLOAD LCD RESOLUTION
Change NEW DENSITY to 270
Reboot
Enjoy
It feels like a big bad ass Tmobile G2X (that was my previous phone)
It's not Samsung Super AMOLED or whatever, but it is 92%-95% as good as my Tmobile G2X screen
The extra resolution really messes up everything
My only question right now is
1) Droid BIONIC with Verizon
2) Samsung Galaxy S II with Sprint?
Let's say I want
1) at least 3-5 bars everywhere in Orange County
2) I want to enter WalMart, BestBuy, Frys... and still have a good working internet connection
Which one should I chose?
I don't really need 14Mbps (although it's so cool to see that speed on a freaking phone)
However, with Tmobile, I would enter to Best Buy, my internet would drop, it was horrible
In terms of internet availability, any advice between Verizon vs Sprint?
I REALLY like the LCD Resolution program, I'm happy with my device now
IT IS A REAL ISSUE though, for the people that say that I am over reacting
It's soooo pixelated its horrible

Pentile
Never heard of it
I had a Asus Eee Pad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 had a better screen
However I didn't switched from the Asus to the Galaxy because of the screen
However I DID switched because the Galaxy Tab is the lighter tab out there, so I can actually read books and do all the stuff, and I LOVE my tablet right now
So, screen is cool, but I wouldn't change just for a screen
However with the screen as pixelated as the Motorola Bionic (and the fact that they were delayed 6 months), I was 80% sure I was going to return it to the store within 14 days
However with that app LCD Resolution, now I am not going to return my phone
UNLESS
Sprint and Samsung Galaxy SII work wonders
I think I will buy (depending on the cash) the Samsung on September 16th.
Then I will test them both, and then I will make my final call.
I like Sprint, they have cool phones (HTC EVO phones, Galaxy SII...)
Anybody knows if their internet drops here in Orange County?
or is the internet from Sprint stable?
My MAIN complain is that, as a former Tmobile user, the internet would just drop as soon as I enter a mall, store, etc

Pentile LCD is by far "cheap"..
Moto chooses Pentile because it's better on your battery and it's brighter than traditional LCDs when comparing screens at the same power rating.
I'd rather have a "battery saver" screen than a "bling bling, oh gnoes, 5% battery warning" screen.
Quite possibly the most useless thread on this bionic forum.
"me don't like screen, me return"
Really?
What exactly is the point in posting this? You mad bro?
If you returned it for your own reasons, so be it, why post it in here?
My eyes are pretty good, this screen is just fine, returning a device because it *might* look a little less vibrant than another one AND going to an inferior carrier IMHO is just beyond petty. But whatever works for you. It's your money. You should buy what you really like, no matter that it is a gram on the other side of a 10 pound scale.
But why... why post about it? Completely pointless.
I dont really give a crap what the technology behind the screen is.. If I cant see it in my S2000 on a nice sunny day w/the top down then I dont want it.
thats why i sent my incredible back, thats why I sent my fascinate back, the DX was decent but not great..
The bionic.. is awesome. I can see it in direct sunlight w/my sunglasses on.

I have been conflicted about the decision ASUS/Google made to omit a HDMI port & microSD slot on the N7. I feel the need to get a 7" android tablet but I am wondering if I should try this XO Vision 7'' Tablet For $99 to hold me over until someone makes a more fully featured 7" inch tablet, or just go with the Nexus 7 and make due with whatever workaround solutions I can find.
I am hoping that someone will come out with a tablet with the the same specs as the Nexus 7 with the added features of expandable storage and HDMI out. If they do this in the near future, I could then give this cheaper tablet to a family member as a gift and upgrade to whatever this new device is and not feel like I was missing out.
This budget tablet has pretty decent specs for the money except for the low resolution screen. I think if it had a better screen I wouldn't even hesitate.
Anyone have opinions either way?
All you asked for is an opinion, not facts. So here goes:
If you buy a $99 tablet, you will regret it. It will not be something to get you by, it will be something to throw at a wall.
There. That is my opinion.
Meh. The specs are OKAY. The low resolution screen kinda sucks (800x400). Personally i wouldn't trade the Nexus 7's support str8 from google, latest OS updates, the great rom/kernel development that I'm sure will come in the next few weeks/months for this tablet.
If HDMI and SD card support is that important to you then....
i get the feeling there are chinese tablets out there for similar price with better specs. The problem is finding them.
I like it. And yes, the problem is that you asked for an opinion, as opposed to any analysis.
Get the Nexus 7. Sure, other devices are going to come out with expandable storage, but this is a Nexus device. Everyone who waits for one and doesn't get it because it doesn't have X feature ends up wanting one in the long run anyway. This happened to me with the Galaxy Nexus. I decided to not wait any longer and bought the S II. I love my S II, but I would rather have the Nexus right now.
Either way, the $100 you spend on that tablet would be a waste. The low screen resolution would be enough to turn me away from it. The resolution on my S II (which is AMOLED, so not a fair comparison) is higher than that and it's almost three inches smaller. Imagine how horrible it would look on a 7" tablet. I mean, the Nook Color has a better screen and that one looks grainy to me at this point.
Ok, Ok, I may have made a mistake by asking for opinions, but I was hoping they'd be constructive opinions. And keep in mind this tablet would only be to hold me over for a couple of months until a more PREMIUM option comes along with BETTER specs than the N7. I would have easily paid $300 for an 8gig N7 if it had the extra features I want. I have a 16 gig N7 on order which will cost me 286.33 anyway if I don't cancel. If I get this other tablet I wouldn't have to wait any more either.
Any analysis would be appreciated by the way.
To get you by, I highly recommend buying the Nexus 7 (of course) or a Fire or a Nook.
Use it to see if you like it or until something better comes along.
If you choose the Nexus 7, at least it will hold its value and you won't lose much on resale.
Fire and Nook values may resemble the residential housing market.
I was not kidding about the usability of $99 tablets. A lot of EBay specs look good too.

Well If you want something to hold you over for a few months until you find what you want, you should probably go with the Nexus 7 and sell it on ebay when you find what you want. It will have much better resale then the XO and it will be a much more satisfying user experience.
Chances are the Nexus 7 will end up costing you the same in the long run as the XO once you take into account resale so you not really wasting anything and get a better system until the time you upgrade.

Yeah that.. you kind of beat me too it.
The problem isn't the anemic hardware, but the crappy software. You'd want one with good community support. Right now, that's the KF. NC has good support too, but it's two gens old and a bit too slow.
Would suggest a used KF for around $100. Geeks are dumping it in favor of the new flavor. If you want mainly a good e-reader, suggest NC for $50-70. Both of course have ample support here. Set a search bot for CL listing in your area.

Now this is what I'm looking for. I am looking for something with at least ICS on it though. And as these three are all in the same price category I'd definitely go with the N7 out of these for the OS alone. Do you really think resale of the N7 will be a viable option? I guess if I just knock up to $100 of what I paid, I could sell it and I'd be in that same situation as if I blew $100 on the XO tablet.

The day of the Google I/O keynote when they announced the Nexus 7 I almost did just that. I am still thinking about that option as well. The only reason I haven't done it is, I am left to wonder when/if it will ever receive the 4.1 update to JB. If I knew it was coming soon I think I'd be better off with this tablet for what want in a 7" tablet.

Agree with this guy. You sound like you want 4.1, it's going to be a while before any other tablet gets that.
And the other guys above are right in the fact that N7 will hold it's value well. Go with the N7 and forget that piece of crap XO, you will regret the XO. It might even turn you off of tablets completely.
Get N7 and be done with it.
Then just resell it if something better comes along. And hey... if nothing better comes along... guess what, you've got the best tablet available at this price!
I'm personally planning to do exactly what I and others are suggesting to you as well.
I'm ordering an N7, but I, like you, would really like the HDMI out, so we'll see what Acer comes out with with their a110, and we'll see what other companies come out with as well and I'll look into video out workarounds in the mean time, perhaps we'll find a suitable work around and get to keep our super sexy HD screens and the latest versions of Android (including all future updates they day the are released rather than waiting months for other companies to implement updates - if ever).
Rock yourself an N7 my friend... just do it, stop hesitating, you'll thank us all later.
(not sure if I should even add this part to not confuse you even further but - if for some reason you're set on getting a cheap junk Chinese tablet to save a dollar though there's a lot better options than the XO Vision, keep in mind they're all still junk though, I'd say look at something like this instead: Ramos W6HD or perhaps Ainol NOVO Mars - I still say go with the N7 though, you'll be a lot happier in the long run)

OK. Done. I am taking your guy's advice. But first, I'll back up a bit. I have a 64G LTE iPad. It has become my main device, I love the battery life & instant on features the most. I am completely sold on tablets. However the entire time I've owned the iPad, Android guys were telling/showing how easy it was to just stick in a microSD card full of movies & watch them or download something from the web on their tablet, pull out the MicroSD card stick it in a USB adapter & transfer files to any other computer. I've longed for those features as Apple has denied them to me as they must not think I can handle it. I have also come to the conclusion that I'd like a smaller, lighter, more portable device to carry everywhere that didn't cost me $900 like my iPad+smart-cover. So, for a LONG-TERM 7" android tablet at a MINIMUM, I'd like Buttery smooth (iPad-like) Jelly Bean, on at least a dual-core 1+ Ghz tablet, 1+ GB ram, with screen res of AT LEAST 1024x600, and it should have MicroSD & HDMI out, along with 9-10 battery life for being online. That's what I'd like in a LONG-TERM 7" android device. Any more would be a bonus. But I have decided to settle for the Nexus 7 until someone comes along with my Dream Tablet, and then I'll knock off $100 of the $286.33 I will have paid and use the remaining balance toward whatever the Nexus 7 killer is.
I think Android could possibly be better than iOS with this new Jelly Bean version but only if combined with hardware that takes advantage of all of its capabilities. I think Google/Asus hit a home run with the Nexus 7 but they could have easily made it a GRAND SLAM.
IM SOOO CONFOOOZED...
SUMBODI TELL ME WOT TO BY...
Edit: decision made, no Nexus 6 for me, it's too big, expensive and ugly immo, just ordered a brand new Nexus 5 from Amazon for €300. ☺

As suspected for a few months, we will probably have a 6" Nexus phone coming this fall.
As a Nexus 4 user i am reluctant to start using a 6" phone, but being a Nexus user since the Nexus One, and after talking to a few friends with the Note i am inclined to take a leap of faith.
What do you guy's think, let's post a few pros and cons so we all can make an informed buy.
Pros:
Better browsing and youtube experience;
Stop carrying a tablet;
Possible massive battery.
Cons:
It won't fit all pockets;
Two hands usage;
Possible weight.
PS: let's skip the 5.2" vs 6" as it probably won't be happening.

Nope. As much as I love the nexus line, that is just way too damn big for me. If I can't operate it one handed, I don't want it. If anything, I plan to finally move up to the Nexus 5, and the's max size I want in a phone. Any bigger and I say "thanks, but no thanks."

According to all the rumors, the Nexus 6 will have a 3200+ mAh battery, i just hope the QHD display won't eat it too fast...
Way to big. Ordered a meizu mx4. Mostly for the camera. I still think that maybe to big.

To me, N4 is a phone and N6 is not. 5.9" is just crazy, who knows, maybe Google brings something in normal screen size (5" or less) alongside N6.

Pros:
Better browsing and youtube experience;
Stop caring a tablet;
Possible massive battery.
Cons:
It won't fit all pockets;
Two hands usage;
Possible weight.
PS: let's skip the 5.2" vs 6" as it probably won't be happening.

Pro's: performance (good enough for a couple of years, looking at the specs). Oh, and 4G in Europe.
Con's: size. A big screen sounds great, but portability and one-handed use.
Looks like the terminal will have excellent processing power and RAM plus a big battery so it'll be good for a couple of years, but like everyone else - will this thing fit in a trouser pocket and can it be used 1-handed?
That last point may well force the UI to offer options so that eg status bar can be positioned at the bottom/navbar on the bottom left or right (just saying). But it's a big piece of kit....
This thing doesn't even fit my backpack.
I'm a Brazilian without English Course, sorry and be comprehensive
I was ready for the switch, couldn't wait...but if the N6 is really gonna be that big I don't think I will buy it. It's too much of a jump from the N4 in terms of size.
If Google really comes out with just the 6 inches version, I think I will choose between the MotoX and the G3. Or maybe even an N5 if I will find one.
I actually think I'm gonna skip this one. As European guy I couldn't picture the size in inches(do it America, I beg you, switch to metric system like the rest of the world! ). Now seeing the two in comparison I must say that it's way too big for me. Nexus 4 is just about the right size, fits in the hand, you can control it with 1 hand. I never found myself wanting a tablet or phablet for that matter. It's phone, laptop or desktop pc for me. I like the keyboard very much to give it up
I'm definitely up for a bigger phone. My Nexus 4 is the biggest phone I've owned, and I'd love a big phablet to use at home for gaming and reading eBooks, and for traveling when I don't want to lug around my laptop. Obviously, I'll be keeping my Nexus 4 to use when I don't want a gigantic slab in my pocket (I want a Sony Z3 Compact for that, but that's several months away for me).
Maybe I'll even pick up a Nexus 5 when the price drops because the 6 is out.
One thing I'm wondering about the Nexus 6 is that, if it comes running Android L out of box, will we be able to "downgrade" it to 4.4.4 KitKat? Obviously, with previous Nexus phones, downgrading to a version prior to its release made no sense, but for those of us that love what the Xposed framework can do for us, I have a feeling 4.4.4 will be ported to the Nexus 6.
Rumor is there'll be a 32GB version for $419USD, and 64GB for $449. If that turns out to be the case, I'm only about $100-150 short of affording the 64GB, which I should be able to save by the time it's available in November.
If the phone does turn out to be 5.9" like most people suspect then I'm out.
I'll be a little disappointed as I was hoping to go from my N4 to an N6 but that screen is FAR too big. It's near enough phablet size and I want a phone not a phablet.
I'll probably just pick up an LG G2 instead. 5.2" is the perfect sized screen IMO.

The G3 and MotoX are also my other options but i'm waiting for the price. If the Nexus 6 arrives with a decent price it's a hard choice.
Looks like the next Nexus won't be inheriting the good looks of the GNex/N4/N5 (mostly N4 lol). That's it, i'm out. Can always flash an AOSP Rom on a phone if I want the Nexii feel again.
I will switch when it comes down in price from Fido

You won't get the same experience even on AOSP, had a Galaxy S2 running CM and sold it after two months.
Lot's of bugs and frustration.
I've current got an LG G-Pad GPe, and I'm finding its 16GBs of storage really cramped. My comic book library through Comixology doesn't support external storage.
Best Buy US sells a 32GB Tab S 8.4, is that worth buying at this point? I've gone hands on with it a couple times on the display models, and that screen is simply beautiful. Not a fan of the physical button though. And on the display model, even after using the task manager to kill all, the thing still had 2.5GBs of its 3GBs of RAM in use. Is that normal for you guys? I am uncertain where I'd root/rom it, but I would be disabling swaths of Samsung apps and probably using Nova Launcher. Does the official Lollipop ota scale back the TouchWiz UI?
Or should I just say screw it and wait for the refresh? My Google-fu only turned up a few vague references to this summer though.

I actually bought a tab s 8.4 a couple weeks ago. After evaluating the n9, I realized this was what fit my needs best. I absolutely love it. Yes, I needed to root it to remove some bloat and optimize it a little, but no, I don't have any regrets about my purchase.
Although I don't believe that best buy sells a 32gb version of the 8.4, only the 10.5. Then again, I knew I'd be buying a micro sd card anyways. So now I have 64 + 10 gb internally.
The tablet itself is a pleasure to use and if the other Samsung lollipop updates are any indication, this thing will fly on it. I'm afraid that a few years from now it will not be updated, but if it runs like this for the next few years, I'd be more than happy.
As for pricing, I got mine during a brief sale on buydig where the price dropped to $260 or so. Prices are going down but that doesn't mean it's not a terrific tablet. Hope this helps!

Free ram is wasted ram. On a display model people have been trying lots of different apps and it is good that these have been cached into RAM. That means they can load quickly when you need to open them again. No sense in having 3gb sitting around doing nothing. Android is smart enough to release the ram when you need it for something else.

Awesome! Didn't know that. No problem! Glad to help. Also, regarding ram, the above is correct as well. Demo units are just that. After debloating, I have 1.5-2.5gb as the ranges I've seen in the built in task manager. I do clear all apps in recent apps occasionally, which I'm not sure if it's necessary, but it doesn't hurt.

Most of the time, I wholeheartedly agree. I just get concerned with all a devices RAM is used on a fresh boot.
I just don't want to have buyers remorse in a month, if Samsung releases a refreshed Tab S line with 14nm silicon in it.

I think 449 is correct regular price for the 32gb model. 399 regular price is for 16gb. 16 gb was on sale for 299!
Totally worth it. I got mine a month or so back and one of the reasons was for manga and graphic novel enjoyment. I use Perfect Viewer for my .cbr and .pdf reading - crisp and very readable text on the screen, plus you can have your library on the external SD. Size and acceptable weight in one hand is perfect for reading. I'm on stock firmware, rooted with some Xposed mods here and there. No issues with it so far. I wish the battery would last longer (maybe 1 or 2 hours longer would be perfect for my usage) but I accept that as a consequence of powering a screen this size and resolution.

This is my usage as well, though primarily through Comixology. Plenty of their content does have DRM-free PDF and CBR versions though, if I was so inclined to grab them. Probably should for some of the larger series I own.
I have the 32GB model and rooted it on day one then flashed Cyanogenmod.
I use Perfect Viewer for my comic / graphic novel needs and it works great!
You should be able to enjoy comics with Comixology with the lovely screen.
At home, my brightness level is only about 1/56 and it's a beauty to read comics on.
I was thinking of getting the 10.1 version but it was too big for my messenger bag that also houses
my Asus Ultrabook laptop.
You could wait for a couple of months more as the new line of tablets for Samsung will push the price of the Tab S 8.4 lower.
To answer your question, I think, yes it's still worth buying.
One serious problem with the current Tab S generation is the relatively weak CPU/GPU performance. If you read the reviews of Samsung Tab S, NVidia Shield, and Nexus 9 over at anandtech, you see that their benchmark scores of the Tab S look pretty modest relative to practically all big players on the market. This doesn't mean that the tablet always crawls slowly, but considering the pace of the continuous bloating of the operating systems and the web sites, I expect the Tab S to become outdated much sooner than say the Nexus 9. The Tab S should work fine for playing HD videos, ebooks, and most other applications. The screen is beautiful, but the responsiveness can bog down on some truly bloated web sites. Installing Ad Block can help.
It's an EPIC fail that the Google Nexus 9 comes with no sd card slot, but if you can live with only 32GB of storage, get the Nexus 9 IMO or perhaps take a look at Nvidia Shield. This week Best Buy announced $75 off on all Nexus 9 models. If you do get the Tab S, you can get the 16GB model, and then add a 64GB/128GB sd card for a small price (I got my 64GB for $30 on amazon).
I would personally wait for the refresh. I like my Tab S a lot, but its performance is indeed a bit underwhelming. It stutters on very high quality HD videos that my freaking Note 3 has no problems playing.
Samsung might have saved some money by using their own Exynos processor instead of Qualcomm in the Tab S (except for an LTE model or two). Maybe thats their standard practice in tablets, and international models? This did make me hesitate buying it but I ended up loving it anyway. But yeah my Note 4 with the Qualcomm 805 does feel snappier and such.
I think it is worth it. I just picked up one of these today for $80 bucks on Craigslist for my parents. I love it so far, the screen is absolutely gorgeous and it is so easy to hold. The only problem is that text may be too small for my parents to read. I might end up flipping this one and getting a larger iPad Air 2 or Tab S 10.5. I think the next generation of this device is going to be spectacular considering what Samsung has done with the GS6 and GS6E. This needs the updated Exynos 7420 and slimmed down TouchWiz.

Wow, $80! What condition is it in? Good going lol. I know what you mean about the text size tho.... that's one gripe I have, is that bigger devices often have even SMALLER text!! The print on my Note 4 is bigger than on this. But luckily I can root, install xposed, and use the App Settings module to adjust it. Still it isn't as good as if it were fully scaled properly to the screen size. .
It's a great little tablet if you can pick it up on a sale or with unused gift cards for under $300. I rarely shop at Best Buy so the fact I had a couple laying around and an older phone sitting in a drawer they gave me $50 for got me to $255 for a new 32gb model. My company provides AT&T data cards so I have that going as a bonus as well.
It's not the speediest and Touchwiz is Touchwiz, just as Samsung is Samsung, but for a nice little travelling media device it's great, the screen is fantastic, good size too, and it's very light. It's the perfect train/hotel companion if that's what you want it for, like me. I was using my N6 for everything and granted the screen on that is a decent size and looks good but this is better for watching movies or reading, and not all that heavier either.
I wouldn't have paid $450 for it, the original asking price, and even $350 might have made me pause a little, but a couple dusty gift cards and and even dustier iPhone 4s that took forever to charge just so I could make sure it was wiped and we were at $255 which is a nice price brand new for this, at 32gb. Put my 128gb in it, Plex on it, and I'm off.
Need to root it now to get rid of some bloat and put an ad blocker in place.
It's still a bit early but we're a couple of months away from its launch. Based on the alleged leaks and speculation on what both Note 10 phones (Note 10 and Note 10 Pro) may offer, are y'all making any early decisions of upgrading or will you more than likely remain on the Note 9? Or just move away from the Note series all together and start using something else for your daily?

Two different sized Note 10's, one of them a 5G model and NONE with a headphone jack (allegedly). 6.75" on the larger Note and 6.3" on the smaller one. Another troubling rumor is that Samsung will be going with a 19:9 display, which means the Note series will continue to get TALLER. I hate that.
The "Pro" version it said to have 4 cameras, with the smaller Note having 3. It seems the new Note devices will not get new sensors, so whatever they have on the S10 line, that's going on the new Notes.
I don't know... From what I can see so far, the Note series is looking like it's gonna develop into a real S.H.I.T. show. IMO, the Note 7 (FE) was the last greatest Note device. This Note 9 is fair enough but with the display getting TALLER on the next gen, no headphone jack and possibly MORE curved display, it's making the choice of remaining on the Note 9 more easy.
For those of us here who have been long-time Note users, I would suggest trying to buy up some spare Note 9's that are still on the market. I'm going to buy at least one extra to keep around so that I can prolong my life with the Note 9. Simply because the current news on the upcoming Note 10 just do not sounds great. I don't know what Samsung is thinking. I hope they can alter course because there seems to be enough long-time Note users around online who have been voicing their concerns about the next generation of Note devices.
What do y'all think? Wait and see or have you already made up your mind about "upgrading" or not?
Going to Note9 +1

Honestly I can't understand that way of thinking.. and encouraging others to do the same.
Buy shares or invest somewhere and purchase Note 11 later instead of putting spare Note 9 into the drawer.
The red and green models look super pretty but let's face it most of us will slap on a case on it so who cares. Plus, you can always put a red or green (or whatever color) skin on the phone to make it any color so again a moot point. The fact that it'll be taller is also something I really hate (agreeing with OP). I will pass on this; will likely go with an S10E since I love smaller phones but want flagship specs.

It's totally fine if you don't understand. For me, it's quite simple. I prefer to remain on the Note 9 but the battery on this thing won't last forever and accidents can happen. If that does happen, there may not be any new Note 9's left around to buy. So I'm getting an extra one now.
This Note 9 design, to me, seems much, much better than these Note 10 renders. Besides the headphone jack, there's other smaller things that I've come to rely on. Like that notification light and no hole punch out on the display.
To each their own, right?
Hell no

Of course I understand you.
But still.. I've seen similar posts everytime new Note is announced.
Especially those kind of threads were popular after Note 5 was announced (no removable battery etc.). But life moves on and I don't know a single person who would have stocked Note 4 for the end of his life
I bought the S6 Edge on the day it launched. The day after the S10 launched I bought the Note 9. I don't think I want to buy another flagship until my phone stops receiving OS updates.

Well, not the "rest of my life". I'm sorry if that was implied anywhere in my posts. I only mean more than likely throughout the next cycle, that is, skipping this Note 10 to see what will occur with the Note 11 (or whatever they call it).
It's non uncommon for some users to keep a phone for 2 years or more. As far as the similar chatter before the next gen Note, I feel that's pretty par for the course but not to suggest that is a bad thing. Users can come to truly depend on certain features, and the only would like to see them maintained on the next gen. Which I believe is fair for them to desire them. Part of this can be due to the fact that security software updates can slow down or just stop completely sooner than users would prefer. A form of planned obsolescence, if you will. So the pressure to upgrade can be difficult to ignore after a couple of years.
This was acute with the Note 5 announcement because as we know, battery degradation is still a problem with phones, so when you have sealed phones, it poses issues for long-term ownership.
Agree on the Note 7 being the last proper sized Note device. Just got a Note 9 since my Note 5 stared shutting down randomly. It is huge and heavy and tall. Only reason I get Note series is for the S-Pen.
Getting rid of notification LED,headphone jack and adding hole punch on display is an abomination. These companies are aiming to make compliant zombies (walking around and sleeping with those apple air pods and samsung galaxy buds 24/7 ) out of their users. On the Note 9 I miss the persistent physical home button and back and recents button from the Note 5. And also the flat screen edges. Round edge is more prone to crack compared to flat edge in case of a fall.
Im gonna go to iphone next. I had the Note 8 and now note 9 and I'm just bored with them. I especially hate the curved screen. I think a platform switch might help for a couple years. Lately Android seems kinda stale and IOS 13 looks to be interesting.
Think I'll be going with LG or Motorola in the future based on the path Samsung is taking with the Note series. Hope they start increasing the RAM size to 6, 8 and higher. Considered Oneplus but it has no sd card slot and their phones are getting even bigger. Need to wean myself of the S-Pen slowly.

I've had the note since release. I got bored and ordered the xs max. Spent 3 days with it but I miss lots of every day features from the note that I didn't know i would until i tried it.
For me i dont like hole punch screens so I'm skipping the note 10.
I've just took out another note 9 deal 512 version and given my son my 128 version. I'm happy to sit with this for at least another year maybe more unless something amazing comes out.
Oh ps the xs max is being returned
I personally see no reason for an upgrade. I bought my note 9 5 months ago for 530 which was an absolute steal. I will be keeping my note 9 for the next 2 years

I did this exact thing with Note 8. Got one and a few months later got another just in case so I get what your saying. I also found a new in the box Note FE and bought that and I find myself using it quite a bit instead of my Note 9. Dont get me wrong Note 9 is a great device and I might consider getting another. But the prices of Samsung devices have really gotten out of control.

It seems I may have to seriously consider doing that myself. I used an active stylus on my OnePlus 6T once. I may have to buy that stylus again and try out a different phone after this Note 9.
