Anyone who has or know if tun.ko has been ported to work on the LG 2x yet?. Its because I need the tun.ko drivers to activate a VPN connection and the 4 standards provided off the shelf is not supported .
The only way I can connect is via an app from market, but said app requires the presence of tunn.ko to work.
MoDaCo has a kernel with tun included.
I would prefer it not being a custom kernel etc . Im not really that much into flashing new roms and such until at least I have seen Gingerbread on the 2x.
So at present I am hoping for a solutuon that only requires me to push it to the phone and not flash a new rom.

Then either get it from the kernel image or ask Paul nicely to help you out.
Does this paul have name on this board.
You must be new here.
It's paulobrien. His 2X forum is at http://2x.modaco.com.
I just joined a few months ago, so no im not venerable yet . But does this paulk frequent these boards as well?.
The reason I ask is that I find it a bit excessive to register at yet another board for the mere reason of needing to contact him and enquire about that tun.ko file
Alright, let me put it this way; You wouldn't regret taking a minute to sign up for modaco.com, because his custom ROM's and kitchens tend to be for members there only. The MCR (MoDaCo Custom ROM) kitchens are famous for their easy way of choosing what you want to include and not in the ROM.
He's frequently here and on Twitter as paulobrien.
Yea I sent him a PM already on here . But for all the goodness of custom roms I have never really ventured into that realm and tried one. I meant to do it when I had my Desire and started to realise I might get Gingerbread for it. But then HTC says they would give it gingerbread so I stalled even more
And now I have the LG as well, and for what it is worth I am generally content in a a large extend with having a stock rom, albeit with some of the provided apps removed and a few tweeks and addons here and there, without going all the way.
But time will tell with the LG
It's definitely a good phone, and hopefully it will get even better. Let's cross our fingers for Android 2.3 or 2.4(?) soon.
In the meantime I can tell you that flashing custom ROM's is very easy. It's close to impossible to screw up the O2X because we have nvflash working and can overwrite all partitions easily. Nvflash is Nvidia's own tool for writing to the ROM. Paul has a guide for how to flash the latest stock ROM in the dev section here. Just beware that using nvflash will in most cases format (delete) everything including your external sdcard, but you can of course remove it first.
Better yet is to install the custom (ClockWorkMod) recovery, backup and flash a ROM from there, because then you don't have to reinstall apps+data. All data+sdcards will be intact, but system settings and any manually added apps in /system/app will be lost though.
If you decide to give it a go we are all friendly and helpful people, just do a little bit of homework yourself.
I had rooted and security offed my Desire which I have have now passed on .
My LG 2x is also equally rooted, I got CWM on it and flashed radio drivers . So I have already did some manner of mocking about with it . But is NVflash a "required" item on our phones. Because I considered installing it, but didn't thnk I really had a need for it at first.
But sadly rooting and doing such to your phone also means OTA software downloads are not possible as the phone is not detected as being the original phone anymore :/

NVFlash poses as a "last resort" if you brick your phone beyond the ability to make an adb connection. As far as I understand it, it hooks in far earlier and thus enables you to flash system partitions.
If you don't brick your phone, you probably won't need nvflash, but its a safety net to revert the phone to a stock ROM if you screw up.
Still no dice, I sent Paul a PM some days ago and not a word back :/
So is there anyone else that might be able to help, since I will assume I can't just "reuse" the version I got for my Desire
Hey all so I currently have an unlocked bootloader, rooted Nexus One still running the Stock Froyo 2.2.2. and I decided to finally upgrade to the OTA Gingerbread update but have a problem.
The OTA update restarts my phone with a triangle with an "!" inside it and an Android next to it, so I decided to try a manual update as described here.
Everything went well until the installation itself, during the install I kept getting some sort of error stating Twitter.apk in the system directory could not be authenticated.
So here's the problem, with Titanium Backup I made the stupid mistake of uninstalling it and not backing it up when I first rooted a while ago. I thought I could just reinstall it from the market but I get the same error. The only solution I can think of is if someone running a Nexus One Stock Froyo could possibly send me the Titanium Backup files of Twitter, hopefully this would make it work, otherwise I don't think I could ever update.
Since your bootloader is unlocked, you can use fastboot to install a custom recovery and then flash whatever you want (including a stock image)...

Thanks for the response, but I'm having trouble figuring some of this stuff, after spending some time with the search option here in XDA:
1. I don't the difference between custom recovery and flashing an image.
2. I can't find a simple stock Gingerbread image (thought its called ROM?) Details in posts tend to be vague for people that are learning this stuff, like me.
3. Many people have written to use Amron_ra 2.2.1 but I don't know the specifics of each ROM are (ex. if its Froyo based, Gingerbread based, etc.)
4. Would using ROM Manager be a good method to use any ROM or is it limited?
I'm essentially looking for an effective method to upgrading to a clean Gingerbread, since doing it the normal way won't work on my phone (as stated in my first post).
1 - Recovery, bootloader, and 'ROM' are two different partitions on you phone. Once you break security on one, you can use it to break the security on the other. In your case, the security on your bootloader is broken (unlocked), so you can use it to install new software on the other partitions.
2 - See bullet 4 on the first post of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005591
3 - For recovery you have 2 choices, Amon Ra or Clockwork, If you go with Clockwork, I recommend you stay away from 3.x versions. Unless the ROM you want to install says otherwise, either of these recoveries will work.
4 - ROM Manger will work. It's an easy way to achieve results, but unless you know what you are doing, it's also an easy way to screw things up.
I suggest you take it a step at at a time, and really understand what you are doing. Reading the wiki is always a good start, then ask specific questions...

Thanks Danger, I made the jump to Cyanogen 7, RC-4 via ROM Manager and couldn't be happier! Only problem is the known audio bug for Nexus One (person on other end of a call hears a lot of static sometimes, and have to recall them). The forced apps2sd is by far my most favourite feature, especially since the N1 internal space is pretty horrible, I've moved most of my apps2sd and haven't had any problems thus far.
Thanks for recommending CM7, I just wish their website listed the full features for newbies like me.
Thanks danger-rat http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/...lick-doesnt-work-gingerbread-2.html#post93952
I downgraded my gingerbread to froyo
Was pulling my hair out with a lame guide in the general section
Congrats!!

Long time Reader. First Time Poster. Ive read many posts over the past few months about rooting, But I think I am more confused then prior to reading them. My Warranty ends tomorrow for my Incredible S on Virgin Moible Canada. And I am looking to Root my Phone, But I do not understand totally all the talk about Radio's, different rom types ( IE Revolutionary, Cyanogen, and so on) the whole Bootloader unlock by HTC if it helps or hurts me. Also Cant seem to find an answer to some basic questions.
1. Do my exisiting Apps still work the same way? ( IE Angry Birds for my Kid, the FM radio and so on)
2. How do I get new apps in - Do we use the market still ( My icon still says market and brings to market - No PLAY for me yet
3. How Often does the roms update - ?
4. ICS, Foyo or Gingerbread?
5. What are the RUU? Bootloader and ADB?
I am basically looking at getting a new Kernal to Throttle down the CPU when not in use as my battery life is horrible, get rid of the BELL BLOATware as I do not even have bell TV, and various other tweaks.
Sorry I know these might be very a Nublet Question. But I did read all the threads and it left me a bit puzzled....

1. If you're just unlocking and rooting, the phone will not appear any different. The apps will work just like they did beforehand. However, if you flash a custom rom, you will have a clean slate. There are apps that can back up all the apps and userdata on the phone(Titanium backup is my personal favorite) and restore them to your new rom installation. However, they do require root access. So as you are a novice to rooting and Modding, I suggest you unlock, root and backup everything before you do any experimenting.
2. All roms can use the market/play store, Although CyanogenMod requires it to be flashed as a seperate package.
3. Rom updates can vary. If the dev is active and there's bugs or features that still need to be implemented, then you can usually expect regular updates.
4. Maybe, No, Probably.
5. An RUU is a Rom Update Utility. They are official updates from HTC packaged in a .exe file, digitally signed, region coded and model coded.
Bootloader is hboot, accessed by pressing the button combo volume down + power when switching on your phone from a completely shut down state. Here you can do a factory reset and enter recovery or fastboot mode.
ADB is android Debug Bridge, which you can send commands from your PC to your phone typically via USB.
(1. If you're just unlocking and rooting, the phone will not appear any different. The apps will work just like they did beforehand. However, if you flash a custom rom, you will have a clean slate. So I take this as I dont need to install a custom rom? What are some non custom roms and is there any really difference.
Oh and I forgot to ask - what are the radios and how do those work. All the radio info i have seen is a bit jumbled and not sure which radio would work with what rom with what carrier and what phone and so one

You will be installing a custom Rom if you want to notice difference in performance battery life and appearance. I suggest flashing nikhils Rom posted on march 7th as its a excellent first time users Rom, and it still uses sense UI. All he was saying is that you will lose all current apps and their data from your phone but not things like music, pictures, files on sd card etc. Once you root your phone and install the clockworkmod recovery you'll see an option from within it to create a nandroid backup which will back up your current phone state completely including all apps their data and all settings, just in case you mess something up. Once you get s-off and root you will be able to use titanium backup to save your apps data for use on your next Rom after flashing.
As for radios you only need to change them if your going from a froyo Rom to a gingerbread Rom. Otherwise these only slightly increse reception and WiFi strength. Worry about getting s-off, root and flashing your new Rom first than maybe later get into radios.
Follow instructions carefully and you shouldn't have any problems, good luck.

Thank U both Very much - I will Have a look at the Post u stated. If I have any more questions I hope you don't mind me asking more lol
I assume U mean this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312021 - Now it says it needs a sep Kernel ( that later in the posts people cant find) . Doesnt the Rom have the Kernel? Do u do the Kernel after the rom is all install? and then How do u get the Market or Play reinstalled on it or do the roms come with it.
And what is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258 stuff for the Hboot and S-off - Not sure I understand all of that ether

I'm not sure if his rom includes a kernel as he is posting links for recommended kernels on the first page.
The s-off page you linked to is not for this phone. Follow lynt's newb guide to unlock the bootloader, install recovery and root. Once rooted you should stop, install titanium, backup all apps and data, then install the 4ext recovery app and use it to flash the latest 4ext touch recovery as this makes things easier for s-on users to flash to the boot partition. Then do a nandroid backup using 4ext recovery.

Ok so my Info on the boot screen is

Radio 3805.04.03.27.27_M
So what I gather is since that hboot is not 1.16 it should be ok and i shouldnt need to to do the one step to revert it down to 1.13?

Yes you can use revolutionary to root and install clockworkmod which can be used to flash a new rom or not if you just want to stay stock rooted.

Easy steps:
1. Revolutionary s-off
2. Custom recovery
3. Backup everything using recovery
4. Install any rom u want ( guide to install is in the respective threads)
5. Take a backup of SD card in your PC
6. Do whatever pleases you that is related to rooted phones
7. Have fun... You just future proofed your device for another year

That is correct. You can use Revolutionary.io to gain S-OFF and install ClockworkMod recovery on your phone and then you are good to go and enjoy the flashing of custom ROMs.
Yeah do revolutionary to get s-off, during the process it'll ask you if you want to install cwm hit yea and report your status here.

Cool beans, just checked out nikhills trinity Rom and there is no kernel to flash. All you have to do is follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
Another tip: when revolutionary asks you for a code to enter (not sure if it still does) copy and paste it or your going to get problems.
Also during your first wipe before install you can't wipe something wrong, just avoid sd card wiping lol.
When asked to place your .zip of the Rom in the root of your sd card, its unnecessary, you can navigate to it anywhere on your phone.
When the Rom installs for the first time it will take 3-5 minutes on the boot screen.
That should answer most of the questions your going to have in the near future.

A friend at work showed me his newly rooted Desire with http://www.virtuousrom.com/p/affinity.html Thinking maybe this one due to the fact it has its own Kernel built in. seems very fast and Uber. Anyone else had experience with it with the Incredible s?
Virtuous roms are quite brilliant..
You will not be disappointed...
its a shame that they longer are in the XDA forums,
team virtuous is one of my all time favorites
Having the kernel is common with most roms, you will find your phone is much more 'user friendly' once rooted and custom rom installed. I run virtuous affinity and didn't have to do anything but root, backup and then flash the rom.
Bloatware gone, speed and battery life increased, more customisation available and enjoyment of my device is improved tenfold.
You won't regret it but will wonder why it took you so long to get around to doing it It's like a whole new device....
First things first : I am a complete noob to all this.
Details of my phone that might be required:
Android Version: 4.0.4
Sense: 3.6
I am planning to root my phone but unable to decide a good ROM for myself. Can anyone suggest a good one for me? Please include the link where I can see the screenshots so that I can decide easily.
I came over some pages from this forum. This one looked kinda attractive : CYANVIVO 10.1
I don't know whether it is suitable/safe for my phone.
I have also downloaded the current stable release by CyanogenMod (added on : 2012-06-16 05:39:44) from here.
This seems much more trusted but it's over an year old.
My prime considerations are good looks, faster processing (it has gone very very slow these days) and better battery life but I guess I can't have processing as well as battery simultaneously. In that case, I would be happy to sacrifice a bit of my battery life. But still, if there is a way by which I could conserve my battery when I wish (ex - by using apps which under-clock the processor), it would be really great.

Hello sir,
A couple of months ago, I sat in your position, (except for the noob part).
I recommend CyanVIVO, which is the first link you provided. It is fast, looks amazing, and can have good battery life. If you want battery life, just customize the governors etc. It is 100% safe as long as you are rooted
The second link is CM7. This is older than CyanVIVO as CyanVIVO is Jellybean (Android 4.2.2) whereas CM7 is Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x)
Obviously CyanVIVO is better if you want innovation, but CM7 is good if you want the old classic android interface.
If you want HTC sense, I recommend Nik Rebirth v3.2 (You can find it in Android development selection.)
If you would like to flash a new radio (improves call signal) click on the one in my signature. Once downloaded, check to see if it is named PG32IMG.zip, if it isn't, rename it. Then put your zipped file onto your sd card. Reboot to bootloader, and the phone should automatically read the file and it should install with type consent. Beware that installing a radio could brick your phone, but it is unlikely. Just do not turn of your phone during the installation process. Also, delete the file after you install it.
If you want rooting guides, there are many different stickies in this section which can help you.
Hope this helps, and don't forget to
Click thanks if I helped you out!
P.S Feel free to PM Me if you run into troubles. Make sure you Google before you perform anything.

Dear Sir,
Thanks a lot for helping me out. I still have some questions. First being, How long have you been using this ROM (cyanvivo). Is it free of bugs? In case I root my phone and install these custom roms, is it possible to restore everything to as it was (obviously I am not talking about the apps and contacts and my messages.) ? Regarding the radio, I am satisfied with the signal strength so I don't feel the need for it. Is there any other benefit of updating the radio firmware?
By reading some articles, I came over 3 terms 1) S--OFFing 2) ROOTing and 3) Installing a custom ROM
Is rooting different from installing a custom ROM? The main question I have here is that is it possible to root my phone without installing a custom rom?

Yes, rooting is different from installing a custom ROM. rooting is just give you full access to your phone's locked section(eg, you can access to phone's internal memory to delete apps like friend stream). Meanwhile, installing custom ROM is change the whole phone completely. Yes, its possible to root your phone without installing a custom rom, actually, u must root your phone before u install custom ROM. Meanwhile, root your phone without changing ROM is just meaningless for me.

Hi,
I have been using CyanVIVO for 2-3 weeks now, and have not noticed any major bugs. Unrooting is possible but I am no expert in that field. Other than signal quality, radios are worthless.
Rooting is the act of gaining full control over your phone. A custom rom is not necessary in order to root. Stock roms are viable options.
Click thanks if I helped you out!
Just to make it clear when flashing a radio the file must me named 'PG32IMG' not 'PG32IMG.zip' like people keep saying. This may be obvious to most people, but not to me =D

The file name is PG32IMG. If it is a .zip file then it should half the .zip extension automatically. If you have PG32IMG.zip, then the actual whole file name would be PG32img.zip.zip and that wouldn't do anything. I don't see any particular reason for changing radios though, and for me, that particular radio had worst signal for me but once again, it really depends on your location. If the radio does change the signal strength, then it would have to be very minimal. :/

After going through some threads on this forum, I am a bit confused about whether to get a new ROM or not. As for now, I have decided to stay with the original ROM or stock ROM as you say it (I guess).
For now, all I need is to just root my phone so that I can get to install SuperUser app and other apps which ask root permissions. How should I proceed?
Please post the steps I need to perform. I have read some guides on this forum but most of them were also teaching the custom ROM flashing thing so it was kinda more than I needed. Can you please post the bare minimum steps I need to perform in order to achieve what I intend to?

Please post the steps I need to perform. I have read some guides on this forum but most of them were also teaching the custom ROM flashing thing so it was kinda more than I needed. Can you please post the bare minimum steps I need to perform in order to achieve what I intend to?

Based on the info in your OP, you will need to do the following:
1. Unlock the bootloader using the procedure at HTCDEV.com (WARNING: This will perform a System Reset/Wipe Data on your phone, so you will lose your installed apps, texts, call history, etc.)
2. Install a custom recovery such as ClockworkMod or 4EXT.
3. Flash SuperSu to root your stock ROM configuration.

No, you won't be able to do the revolutionary.io S-OFF method with your current configuration. You would need to perform the downgrade method that is documented in a couple of the sticky threads in this forum before you could S-OFF using revolutionary.io.
Details of my phone:

Yes, the revolutionary.io S-OFF procedure will only work with HBOOT 1.13.0000, thus with HBOOT 2.02.0002, you will need to unlock the bootloader and perform the downgrade procedure to get to HBOOT version 1.13.0000

Okay, so I guess I should use the HTCdev method. But I read that using htcdev method will leave a permanent watermark. That would be annoying! right?! So, what should I do?

Once you unlock the bootloader, the tell-tale sign only shows on the HBOOT screen. Where yours currently says "LOCKED" on the top line, it will change to "UNLOCKED".
If you then perform the downgrade procedure and get HBOOT 1.13.0000 installed, the "LOCKED/UNLOCKED" line will disappear. Once you S-OFF with revolutionary.io, the bootloader screen will change to version 6.13.0000 and will show S-OFF instead of S-ON.
Yes, HTC will know that you have unlocked your phone's bootloader, but so what?

Indeed so what. The Incredible S is a discontinued device and therefore warranty is long gone. Yes its true that an HTC engineer can refuse to fix your phone if it does get damaged but the fixes cost a good amount of money anyways (like quite a bit of money.

I would recommend this guide.

Just skip 10. It has everything you need to become fully rooted including s-off
Click thanks if I helped you out!
Hi all,
I am I a position where I can get unlimited tethering, of which I am grateful for. I purchased the phone from Vodaphone and then moved to another provider. Because its a third party phone, tethering is not detected.
So, I accidentally updated the software version of the 510 to 1.51.161.12 and then to 1.51.161.14 and my tethering application took a MASSIVE hit.
Tethered to an Xbox one, I now get huge packet loss, very low MTU, huge latency and slow speeds, which was not present before the update. I have contacted the HTC devs to let them know about the issue. I have already troubleshooted all my devices, factory reset, wiped the cache etc...
I wish to roll back the version. I realise in order to do this I will need to root my phone and flash a ROM. The only Kernel I could find was on the htcdev website and was version 1.51.161.10 from vodaphone. Is this a stock ROM?
Can anyone assist me in safely flashing my phone, I have never done this before and I would like to keep my unlimited tethering and phone in working condition. I did Google it but I couldn't find any decent results.
What is a safe guide to follow? I am completely inexperienced at this and would really appreciate the help.
Is dip_spits guide appropriate for a a UK carrier, does it matter? I almost used this guide
https://support.digitalendpoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/204812787-How-to-root-the-HTC-Desire-510 -until I realised that I need philz recovery for 64bit. Will using the dip_spit guide lock my carrier again?
What ROM can I use after rooting. Why is it so hard to find information on HTC 510 rooting and ROMs
I am looking for a safe way of doing this and have posted multiple times on XDA, but nobody can help me. The reason I am doing this is to restore functionality to my tethering, which has broken for no apparent reason.
Thanks

Okey.....a lot of questions.
Firstly, if you are 64 bit there is no need to use philiz touch recovery. There is TWRP recovery for our device. You can get it here:http://twrp.me Don't search HTCDev for 64bit ROM's. The only thing there are kernel source files. The carrier lock is not in any way connected with the operating system (at least thats what I think). And it's highly doubtful that the lock will reapear. The reason that you can't find a lot of guieds about our device it's mainly because the majority of devs here on XDA are from the USA. In the USA they sell the 32 bit version of the phone and the software is very different from the 64 bit.
Now lets talk about ROM's.
If you want pure stock rom you can search for it here mega:///#F!3Zo10Zya!-NbM_2RWWecFlc5mH9bLbA
If you want a custom rom you can get this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-510/htc-desire-510-64-bit-eu--international-version/cyanogenmod-12-1-msm8916-64bit-t3281744
And if you'd like a debloated version of the stock you can get this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-510/htc-desire-510-64-bit-eu--international-version/android-4-4-3-stock-os-debloated-64bit-t3361689

Ok so here is what happened when I rooted.
I unlocked the boot loader and made a recovery using philz touch. The PROBLEM is that I didn't have an SD card installed so what happened is philz touch partioned part of my phones memory. So I go to root and it is successful.
Now I got to recovery to install back the system because I was not happy with the way some of the apps were running and I want to install the stock vodpahone RUU on zubaggys page. I go ahead and recover but now it has taken more memory. I am now running my old ROM and kernel with less than 1 gig of free memory!!
All I want to do now is reinstall the stock vodaphone
Another question. When I was rooted, I downloaded barnacle tether and messed with the transmit power in the settings. I disabled and uninstalled. I also downloaded port forwarder ultimate and messed with the setting but uninstalled.
Will this affect my ROM installation, will it be fresh.
Thanks.

If philiz touch partitioned the phone then it's a miracle that it's still working. At this point I will suggest you flash TWRP because it has a more clean interface and there is no way you'd mess up something. Afterwards use it to format every single partition you can find with it. Beware that with this you will delete all data including the OS. I am not 100% percent that this will work because I haven't seen a situation like yours.

Jeez, I guess i have got myself in a bit of a sticky situation. I followed dips rooting procedure and it explicitly stated not to use twrp and use Philz touch instead for 64 bit phones. It also didn't state to use an Sd card.
We are talking in two threads here, so I suggest, to help other users with a stock revert, that we continue in Zubaggys thread. You are being a great help and I really appreciate you giving me your time.
